Warn Winch Install on Garage floor to pull vehicles up the driveway and into the garage

  • Up until now I have relied on people to help me get the dragster from the street, into my garage. It is more difficult than you might think.
Our driveway has quite a slope. The dragster only weighs 1440 pounds but takes four people to get it up the driveway.
With the winch bolted to the floor of the garage, other than turning it in the street, I should almost be able to get it up the driveway myself. Glenn Lever

Excellent build. Just add a remote and you won't have to rely on help. You can drive the dragster as you winch it in. Then a battery maintainer to keep the winch battery ready at all times.

Don't know how I ended up here, but I watched the whole thing. Very nice job and well done.

I did this 20 yrs ago and have used it so much. I work alone so had no way to push cars. Worked so well i put one in new shop also. Great trick for template. Gonna try that

Thanks, my only complaint is the cable speed is to slow. We have moved and have a new shop. I took the winch with me and will be installing it at the head of a ramp in the shop.

Wow great video Glenn! When I started watching I thought "oh man 27 minutes that is going to be too long" ... but then I could not stop watching! Very well done and the plate turned out like a piece of art! The only thing that would have made it better was to see the dragster actually pulled into the garage at the end.

Thanks for the kind words. I have been working on making the videos shorter. There always seems to be something else to include in the video. Here is the video of the dragster being pulled into the garage.. ua-cam.com/video/QaiexB-uaZg/v-deo.html Glenn Lever

You do great work my friend, that is quality stuff. Your workshop is amazing. If only I had an oven, sandblaster, lathe, drill press, plasma cutter, welder I'd be in good shape! Ok, well I do have a drill press and a small lathe. thankfully I was able to buy a plate from the winch manufacturer though, but that was a great idea you had that helped me a bunch!

I understand your comment, at one time I did not have any of that equipment either. It has been gathered over time, now sometimes the body will not do what the mind wants to do with the equipment these days, I wounder which is better.

I bought a Harbor Freight winch almost identical to the Warn. So far it's worked like a charm. I paid $129.00

You made the same mistake everyone else does when doing this. You bolted it to the ground. You should have bolted a step receiver plate to the ground and THEN mounted the winch to a regular receiver winch cradle. No need to worry about bolts and how they will get in the way. Replacing and maintaining the winch is so much easier. The winch is able to be moved and used in other locations. More bang for your buck.

Nice job Glenn, very informative...... You are getting good at these videos and it is nice you talk over the video during your presentation. So now you are an expert at this step.....you may won't try a little upgrade in your presentation. During the video when you feel comfortable in the process, stop working and talk in front of the video and tell your story. You can do 2-3 during your process and it will just make it more interesting. Anyway Glenn.........Job Well Done......

Well edited and no dumb jokes. Just show what you need to and do the voice-over. I watched it all and I usually don't.

It is the style I try for. I want to see the project, not listen to someone talk. That is needed from time to time though. Thanks

Welcome and thank you for the complement. If you watch enough of these videos you will see one where the cops show up because we started the dragster for a very short time, the whole thing was on tape.

Hey man. Great idea. How did you connect to power supply though? 12v winch with 110v power from the socket is ok?

Holy sh*t that was overkill. I used duct tape to install mine and it works fine.

Will a 1,500lb winch pull a 3,600 pound car up the driveway into the garage?

    • @ThrottleStopRacing
      @ThrottleStopRacing  9 місяців тому

1,500 pounds is dead weight. Depending on how steep the driveway is I would think you would be alright. However if it were my 3600 pound car I would want a stronger winch.

The dragster has a 200" wheel base with 6 " of clearance. Without picking up the front end i would not be able to get it up the driveway. With the front end in the air you cannot steer it.
