Hey good video...and a pro tip for next time you have to use wedgeits. If you have your rotorhammer drill handy you can switch it to only hammer mode and use any old bit and you push the wedge anchor in with the tip of the hammer drill bit. No hammer or beater necessary. 😂

Obviously I'm watching this because I'm thinking about installing a winch in my floor because of my ridiculously inclined driveway and before I watched it I was thinking about making a hole for a pulley to thread into the driveway but after seeing this video it's probably a good idea to make it so it can move.
Ha! I have the same issue. I thought about do this and here it is!! Nice video! I plan on getting one with a wireless remote. My wife and I would end up in a discussion by the time Is get it in the garage... lol
I love it, I want to do the same thing but I need the floor to be flush when winch is removed. I need to find some threaded inserts to put into the concrete. My garage is pull through so it would be in the middle of the floor and I’d trip on the studs daily.
Awesome video. I have had a similar idea for my shop for situations I need to pull a vehicle in but it won't run. I think I will put a plate on the wall and mount it to the wall.

I'm not one to mock "overkill", my opinion is that you can never be too prepared. But, just in case you end up needing to pull something above even that winch's pay grade, you can use snatch blocks to multiply your winch's capacity. It may take a little longer but it's an awesome way to wring more power from your winch

No worries. If I can add one last thing - something that I only recently discovered - the synthetic rope now available for winches is amazing. Lighter, more flexible, and every bit as strong as the steel cable that is primarily found on winches. They're much easier to use than steel cable

Great video! What kind of battery are you using? I'm going for the same exact setup. It's a competition between Cold Cranking Amps vs. Deep cycling. I'm considering a 710 CCA deep-cycling AGM battery. They say for CCA go with lead acid. Overkill?!! I couldn't resist a Harbor Freight 12,000 Lbs. Winch on sale! That pully at the end of the driveway is a great idea!
I didn't check the comments, so this may have been addressed already, but that idler that you made for the winch to stay off the driveway - is that just sitting on the floor? My driveway is heavily sloped, so I will need that for sure. Loved the video BTW.
yes. it was just sitting there. it moved a little, but did it's job well.
I have the same problem, mines way steeper and I’ll need to have a tall idler wheel

I see you connected it to a battery sitting on the floor. Was your plan to do that only when needed or permanently hardwire to DC or AC inverter or (?)
You made the same mistake everyone else does when doing this. You bolted it to the ground. You should have bolted a step receiver plate to the ground and THEN mounted the winch to a regular receiver winch cradle. No need to worry about bolts and how they will get in the way. Replacing and maintaining the winch is so much easier. The winch is able to be moved and used in other locations. More bang for your buck.
Getting a winch that can handle the load of just pulling up vehicles and then some is better without having to use a snatch block is a good thing. Maybe you should have gone with the 12000.
Aztec Warrior: What is a Step Receiver Plate? I came to this video to do what Tahoe Steve did as I have a sloped driveway and need to winch in my 17ft RIB Boat and Trailer into the garage. Tired of pulling it up with the hand dolly-risking throwing out back. If he did it wrong can you link to the right way?

You should look into replacing the studs with some hardened ones with a higher shear strength…

Steve, two years in how's this holding up? My drive is about the as yours. I'm trying to cheap out a bit. What would you suggest as the minimum capacity?
You really don’t need to weld the plates on. They aren’t going anywhere once the bolts are on.
Odd question. Where did you get that scissor lift table?? And what's the height on it?
Wr have a very steep driveway. 3 cars. Only one is 4x4. This is xactly what i had been dreaming of doing for winters. Forget about plowing. With this ic an haul my 2WDs into the garage

Great video! I am considering a similar setup since I have one project vehicle that is hogging the garage and would really like the ability to move it in and out as needed. I have no welding skills nor equipment and found a raised mount (Smittybilt Winch Plate for TJ/YJ/LJ factory bumpers , Black - 2802 ) that might give me the floor clearance needed. Do all winches have a standard mounting bolt pattern and size? I would really like a remote for the winch so I can guide the car while steering up my driveway incline.
Now, I am not absolutely sure, but I think they are fairly standard as they normally go on vehicles, but you'll definitely want to double check.
What was the thickness of the steel plate that you used as the spacer.

@@jefff3756 Group 24 "deep cycle" marine battery. that's about a 90 amp battery. CCA is pointless in this application. Even at zero degrees this battery will still feed the winch 45 amps minimum. This size battery will do for nearly all applications pertaining to this winch, unless you're running back to back duty cycles all day long. Don't go for the cheapest battery you can find. In the battery world you get what you pay for. Stick a Battery Tender on the battery 24/7 and you'll get several years of service out of your battery. Get a small tube of dielectric grease from the auto store and smear it on the terminals once they're installed and you won't have to worry about corrosion either.
Is this a deal where you can move it off the floor when not in use? I have a garage storage system set where my car sits, and i couldnt leave it mounted 24/7, only when I want to use it. Bolts can stay in place, cause I think my cabinets are tall enough to go over them. So thats not an issue. Thanks in advance.
No, this sucker will still be bolted to the floor 100 years from now when the house falls down.

OK i can not for the life of me figure out why wouldnt have just gone with a 110v winch instead of a 12v.
1500lb is the highest weight I've seen for a 120v winch..
Well first off AC winches are way more expensive.
Add that they are way less capable of pulling loads. As in they are rated for less capacity.
A DC winch can be taken anywhere your vehicle can go. You might say but it's in his garage, well that's where he made a mistake. He should have mounted a Step bumper receiver plate, and then mounted the winch to a cradle.
So Why would you use an AC winch is the question, Besides the obvious that it can be plugged in to the wall? But why does that even matter. If you are doing this, for the reason to be working on cars, then you most likely you have batteries and cables and the charger to have the system setup. Plus the battery can be used jump started other vehicles. So not only is the winch able to be taken places and used so can the power supply.
So again WHY AC? You didn't even bother to make an argument for it.

Second your use does not disqualify anything I said. And if you do ever need it for more than you are intending it for, then you have it set to go, and as a less costly option and more pulling capability. Better to have it and not need it than, need it and not have it.

@@AztecWarrior69_69 You seem to be pretty knowledgeable with these winches... I purchased a 12v winch ... Will be mounted on my garage floor under a cabinet. I'll run the cables through the bottom of the cabinet which will contain the battery... What battery do you recommend, as well as a battery tender..?
