In Switzerland we have a brand called „Green Mountain“, they make the most amazing vegan meat replacement, including an absolutely incredible regular steak and a pepper steak!!
Here in northern Germany I am lucky to have a store that has the steak, chicken, and mince. The steak is a regular buy for me now. Hope to see the pepper variant sometime.
Thank you for showcasing Meati more! You’re like me, probably have been following them for a while. A nice intersection of my interest in fungi and veganism. Just so everyone knows though Meati is not yet on the market and while the price is high, remember it’s ONE company making this. Give it a little bit of time and that price will come down. The only reason meat is affordable is because of the subsidized conglomerate factory farming. The other great thing about Meati products is that they are all protein fiber and minerals and are minimally processed. They’re made similarly to how beer is brewed, a culturing process of feeding a fungal spore sugar until it‘s ready to be harvested. Chipotle (or the company that owns Chipotle) recently invested in Meati as well, they’re definitely going to be a rising star and will be up there with Beyond and Impossible very soon, within 2 years is my guess. I also like that they market their products as ‘Animal Free’ opposed to Vegan actually. It’s smart marketing becsuse it doesn’t try to specifically target the vegan market but reminds consumers that this choice exploits/harms no animals and you can still enjoy the same thing with a nutritionally superior product.
Meat substitutes are and always will be highly processed by their very nature. Minimally processed means the food is preserved but is still substantially similar to it's natural form in nutrition and appearance, like frozen peas. These meat substitutes are also not "nutritionally superior" as you claim, they are entirely different foods. You also don't seem to have a grasp on the economics of meat. Meat is affordable because it can be made in large quantities, it can make non-arable economically productive, and it results in useful by products such as leather.
Christopher… before commenting make sure to do at least 1 second of reading about that thing you’re commenting on. This meat substitute specifically is mushroom root. It’s grown in a way that makes it naturally substitute meat. It’s not highly processed.
@@Hostilegeese ^Exactly what he said. Also, raising animals is very resource-intensive, especially if we are talking about cows. They require a lot of land, water, and feed. Raising animals for slaughter is not cheap! It costs around $2,000-3,000 to raise a cow to slaughter. That just isn’t economically viable without financial help from the government, which is why the government spends $38 billion subsidizing the meat and dairy industry annually. You seem to have zero understanding of anything you’re talking about.
@@johnchesterfield9726 cows don't strictly require feed, they can be allowed to graze in pastures, a concept thousands of years old. The reason feed is currently popular is due to corn and soy subsidies, which is relatively recent. Cows can be raised on pastures which have the additional benefit of using non-arable land, this is land that is not suitable for growing crops and is something the US is particularly suited to given the vast expanded of such land in the great plains. Your $30 a pound and $15 burger number is also very suspicious as it's the exact number used by many, heavily biased, vegan sources with no explanation of how they arrived at that number. We get our "fake steaks" from Sweet Flowers and they are bomb -- mouth-watering and 100% plant based. Love your videos. They provide constant inspiration.
If I understand correctly, you bought a total of 24 steaks? I assume there's no tax or shipping due to volume, but that's about $9 USD a steak. Honestly, I don't think that's too bad if you think of it as a special, romantic dinner, one off kind of thing. Like, I haven't had steak over 15 years -- if I can have a nice "steak" experience for roughly $12 CAD, that's still a fraction of what I would pay for a vegan "steak" at a restaurant.
I just bought this and before I was looking for a review and couldn’t find one. I luckily stumbled across this but it doesn’t matter since I already bought it. I can’t wait to cook it and see for myself.
I think the future of meat substitutes is definitely Mycelium. The cellular stucture is so much more similar to meat, and the natural flavors are closer to meat than plants are.
The flavor might be the same, but texture is always off and it’s not nutritious as a steak! Animal products such as steak doesn’t just contain protein! I really think mushrooms are the future of plant-based meats both in their natural form (think what Derek Sarno has been creating!) and in terms of some food science (like Meati steaks or what Quorn has been doing for quite some years). All these products and recipes are just so exciting so thank you so much for showcasing the brands creating them! . Lots and lots of love! Have a great end of this week and the one ahead!

I used to like the old Quorn steaks (not the peppered ones the thick ones) before they discontinued them. They too are obviously based on fungal fibres but I couldn't have them now anyway as I am now full vegan and they used egg for a binding agent. They do that with a lot of their products, almost all, so I don't buy it anymore. Being in Scotland most of the products you review aren't available but it's interesting to see your take on things.

Its funny, when I first went vegan and learned how to make seitan I was so enthralled by the flavors and textures of seitan that I used to dream of opening a vegan steak house where I would sell thick and juicy seitan stakes that I would make in house every day. Now years later, i am glad that stayed a dream, i don't have the temperament to survive in the restaurant industry, lol.
I had to sign up for their newsletter and camp out on their website for the restock. hahaha I was refreshing like a madman trying to get concert tickets in the 90s

8 months later never got any. On their website they say they are in stores, but those stores have never heard of meati. I'm done trying to get this product. Will stick with Impossible and Daring.
Beyond Meat is coming out with a steak. Well, actually, it's gonna be steak slices. That's how they described it. Probably be good in a Philly sandwich. No ETA yet though.
They do look absolutely delicious . . . but . . . that price is gonna have to drop drastically b4 I'm ready/able to spring for them. I get adverts for Redefine meat, I'm really intrigued about how it would taste because it looks amazing. It's available in select restaurants in the UK, as far as I can tell, but it seems to be expanding quite quickly.
I am so stoked to try redefine meat!!! Im waiting for it to be available here in the US!
It's a Israeli invention,so we tasted it here, gotta say ,pretty disappointed.
@@ayakahila9600 How come? Does it taste bad?
@@anonnymous4684 it was dry! I find the beyond to just be the best product out there .
I need to try the stake still ,maybe That's gonna be the winner .
Plus it's so expensive, like it's absurd.
Looks delicious! But I don't want to have food which needs so much single use plastic. greenchef and actual dish.
Are you sure you have cellophane film, not polyethylene one?
Wow that looks incredible. Can’t wait to be able to try one
The link below says to print recipes but I can never find them on there. What’s up?
Gordon Ramsey is actually Scottish, not English. But close enough. 😂
I haven't tried it, but its probably missing heme to add that bloody juicy flavour
Being in Scotland most of the products you review aren't available but it's interesting to see your take on things.
wow, you sold those pretty well, looks like it even beats the Juicy Marbles, mainly in that it doesn't shred. you guys ate the Wellington quite proper, I would have manhandled that oversized hot pocket!! 😋🤤🤤🤤👏👏👏
Its funny, when I first went vegan and learned how to make seitan I was so enthralled by the flavors and textures of seitan that I used to dream of opening a vegan steak house where I would sell thick and juicy seitan stakes that I would make in house every day. Now years later, i am glad that stayed a dream, i don't have the temperament to survive in the restaurant industry, lol.
if they came out with a lab grown steak would you try it or no
Herbivorous Butcher is REALLY good too!
I eat meat but I love how innovative you are
Everything is sold out according to their website as of Aug 2nd.
I had to sign up for their newsletter and camp out on their website for the restock. hahaha I was refreshing like a madman trying to get concert tickets in the 90s
@@SauceStache Dedication! I really want to try this so its about time for me to try your methods.
It appears Meati is all sold out.. can’t wait to try, though. Thanks!
DM us your address on IG, and we'll make sure to send you some #goodenergy! @meatifoods
that wellington looked soo good my god
Did you try meatis chicken as well? If so, did they hold up too? Love your videos!
You really ought to try Nature’s Fynd. They also make vegan meat out of mushroom, but it’s a particular kind of mushroom.
God you guys are making me hungry. I need to try these.
At about 8.75 a steak, it's not even unreasonable considering the price of good beef.
This Meati™ stuff seems really interesting. I wonder if I'll be able to get it over here in Europe.
That texture looks INSANE!! 🤯🤯🤯 maybe I’ll purchase these for a special date night dinner (since you mentioned that it’s on the pricier side) 🤔
LOL. Good luck finding any.
@@dmennenoh LOL
Holy smokes. The price ^^ How much do the packs each weigh?
You get 8 steaks in each pack I’m pretty sure! Still expensive but not as bad as paying that much for 2 single steaks lol
looks banging but wellington without gravy is a sin 🥲
Oh please recreate the beyond jerky!!!
I even don't like the smell of beef but I am addicted watching vegan steaks
GOOD EVENING SAUCYMAN!
Omg, that thumbnail.....WHAT?!?!
Qourn makes some Mycellium based "Salisbury Steaks", I wonder if those would work? They're only around $6 for 2 steaks.
Do the Chicken. Wonder if it's better than Quorn or Daring. I put my name on the list for the next drop of Meati also. Excited to try.
8 months later never got any. On their website they say they are in stores, but those stores have never heard of meati. I'm done trying to get this product. Will stick with Impossible and Daring.
wow looks awesome!
Beyond Meat is coming out with a steak. Well, actually, it's gonna be steak slices. That's how they described it. Probably be good in a Philly sandwich. No ETA yet though.
Yum! I want to try all of these, but I'll stick to my cheap options for now. I've gone this long without a steak.
They do look absolutely delicious . . . but . . . that price is gonna have to drop drastically b4 I'm ready/able to spring for them. I just tried soy curls for the first time and was blown away . . . so I've got lots of exploring to do while Meati figures out how to offer their products at a more reasonable price point.
They’re like 10 bucks now! At Whole Foods and Sprouts
@@ArmandoPerezMusic Yeah . . . I just found that out . . . and that's for a 2 pk. Not sure if they're the same size . . . but that is much more reasonable.
Well I will be making this
I love you guys
This should be what you collab with Guga on. 😂🥩
Vegan hollandaise! Looks delich!
I got the texture of over cooked cheap meat. Maybe I over did mine?
Mark: "...Just Egg..."
Level 5 Vegans: "Did you know egg isn't vegan?"
*Maybe try to smoke the meat prior to searing. Might boost the steakyness*
I've tried once in Indonesia a vegan beef steak from a brand called Burgreens and man! It's scary, same texture, smell, taste like a beef and they keep their recipe secret of course.
this is so awesome!!!!
