the way the mimicked speech sounds unconfident with those constant pauses, yet is stubborn and insistent in spite of it. like it has to generate each new word in the sentence on the spot and keeps hesitating, but it doesn't have any better idea as to what to do so it just keeps hammering the same thing in
Yes I loved that too. Especially how the first time it says "Tranquility" it sort of gets the accent and sound wrong. It's as if it's still adjusting to mimicking the human voice.
Watch videos of apes signing. They hammer the phrases that indicate what they want insistently, ordering instead of conversing. This kind of thing seems similar. The entity is pushing a demand to stay. It just sounds like mission control to us.
Jumpscare at the end killed it a bit, but it earned a jumpscare through the atmosphere. The mimicked speech was very good, especially as it was clearly feeling out the words at first. The threat was hyped up and should've actually just been the light that was approaching; it should've just got you, instead of fading out suddenly for no reason other than a jumpscare. Said jumpscare could have felt more in-place if it happened as the light got you, instead of the weird pause in between.

Then as you look around trying to figure out where it went, or what took it, mission control suddenly says that object is 0 meters from you and when you look up a giant monstrous thing just comes slowly descending at you and cut to black

the shaking is because of how the game processes location. distance from center is a number, and as you go along due to math the number gets less and less accurate as you get farther from center. eventually it will get to the point of shaking because the math says you're bouncing between two points the real fun is when the whole game really starts falling apart and you can be like meters between the points its averaging out...or even kilometers. but usually by then the game is so broken it crashes or controls stop responding
Man, the existence of this game is scaring me more than the game itself, as a Kid I had a Nightmare about Ghosts on Mars and it looked just like this, just instead of being on the moon I was on Mars. I'm really questioning the fabric of reality since its so close to my dream. I mean I couldn't move and the ghosts just moved across the horizon and chanted an Ominous song just chanting "Ghosts on Mars." Its kinda goofy but as a child I was terrified. And its kinda freaking me out right now.

I don't know what it was about this particular jumpscare, but it REALLY got me. Reminded me of the finale to Squirrel Stapler where the buildup just KEEPS GOING.
the song that the red orb thing plays is weirdly comforting, you can actually find the song too! it's called Midnight Moon, made by the dev (using ai) specifically for this game
The build up of this game was very good. Getting to the receiver and it being seemingly fine and after resetting it have the comms tell you that they are picking up a small object heading towards you really fast and then the comms just cut off and you're left in silence with the only sound being your footsteps, breathing and your hud reminding you that something is getting closer.
Interestingly, one of the things learned from the lunar landings is that some people are allergic to moon dust, but we have too far small of a sample to know if it is common or rare
An advertisement showed up and cut mark off in the middle of the start, and it made him say “LIXIAN BLOW ME-“ and I fucking CACKLED like a god damn WITCH
Small detail, but looks like they even got some constellations right, like Taurus and star cluster Pleiades, plus the big dipper. Those are the ones i noticed but I'm sure theres more I missed
That scare really worked me over. From the distance popping up until the light I could feel the hairs on my neck standing up and anxious tingles across the bakc of my head. Hoo boy...
3:55 "I guess it's not air".... Mark, the moon DOES have an atmosphere... It's just VERY little to the point it's almost a vacuum, oh and it's almost pure helium... So there WOULD be dust floating around on the moon... It would just take a LONG time to resettle properly...
@@informitas0117 The moon's thin atmosphere also makes it so any meteorite regardless of size can strike the surface because they don't burn up, and they kick up more dust when they hit the surface
The ambulance and when Mark went off the fake moon were the best bits. So funny. The developer clearly isn't a big gamer if they honestly believed no one would explore.
Or maybe they didn't care. If it's a small project I would definitely leave this kinds of things there. You decided to be curious and go off a mile to the wrong direction? No I'm not gonna put a wall there. I'm the kind of gamer that immediately turns around and tries to do the opposite of what I'm told. It's only fitting the devs decide the prize for my asshattery is falling into the nothingness for eternity.
I feel like this game is just short of being amazing Like the set-up and the aesthetic is damn near perfect. Having something impersonate your friend to try and get you to stop running, and the fact that you know something is coming for you but you can't tell from where? This is all amazing stuff to pull off in an indie horror game But the actual scare that it leads up to is just bad. It's a lame and uncharacteristic jump scare, with the very tired indie horror fake-out trope. The existence of aliens, or whatever these things are, go completely unused outside of seeing them from miles away. Having good world building doesn't mean anything when it builds up to nothing
God this was lowkey masterful. Feel like it’s up there with Iron Lung and that creator’s work. Something about the “Tranquility. Tranquility.” A few too many times was just enough to be very eerie followed by “Stay where you are”
the one good part. seeing the faces in the distance could've been good, but they were clearly stagnant .PNGs that moved out of the way like powerpoint slides. followed by strange old timey music and a massive glowing light that felt totally disconnected from the perceived threat and then topping it off with a bunch of static scary face images and a puppetcombo screamer was a complete let down.
The buildup and tension are incredible on the first playthrough, but the payoff being a stock spooky face bouncing around your screen with a stock scream sound just completely ruins the ending. The game definitely has massive potential, and if the dev really felt like it they could swap out the ending and faces, and it would be incredible on a first playthrough
I believe that only Apollo 1 had fatalities (the fire on the launch pad tragically killed all 3 astronauts). But all the astronauts in all other Apollo missions, even Apollo 13, survived
This was VERY cool~. Love the atmosphere and the scare too. Not the most frightening thing ever but, I love the tracker showing you how close your pursuer is, how you lose contact with HQ and a fake voice says "Don't move, stand still."
Love the idea of a *secret* moon launch, as if everyone would just ignore the big-ass rockets. Plus that little girl with her telescope would spot them and try to send them Christmas presents.
someone suggested that they were multi-part launches, where you assemble in LEO and boost up, would still be noticed by any space object trackers, but at least there is slightly more plausible deniability there
@@therookiegamer2727 We had really big spy satellites (launched from the space shuttle ) that were un-tracked until they were declassified, its plausible to send a small LEM with enough fuel for a lunar transfer
Something I didn't know about till I heard recently, the worst part of walking on the moon is the razor sharp static clinging dust that can eat through a space suit.
Lixian editing in the Ambulance when Mark see's the thing in the hills had me laughing for nearly 5 minutes. I don't know why but that was brilliant lol
4:30 Welp, add this to the list of games that Mark has broken. I also love how the dialogue calls the Apollo 17 landing point "Tranquility Base" when only Apollo 11 landed there. Apollo 17 landed in the Taurus-Littrow Valley.

Jeez, something about the music when that orb steadily got closer and closer was so eerie to me. The sight of the orb, too. I was expecting an immediate ending. But it disappeared. It's a bit too similar to my old hallucinations from when I was a child with too much pressure in my eyes + stress.
I love how whenever I hear about some random indie horror game that I'm interested in looking at but not playing. I can just type it in and Mark already has a video on it.

Some really excellent atmosphere and tension buildup. I honestly forgot about the faces once we stopped seeing them though, they weren't very impactful. The impersonator's speech being juuuust wrong enough to notice was very well-done! Can't say I like the ending at all, though. Sure, it got me, but I just don't like big jumpscares in general... at least this one earned it with the buildup. Other people in the comments bouncing ideas around have some concepts for the end that would make this all around fantastic. Maybe the dev will do more in the future and make something more solid.
The faces in theory are cool, they are there from the start of the game. But you really only notice them because the game keeps telling you previous austronauts kept seeing faces over the hills. It would have worked better if seeing those faces was more organic. Maybe have the player look for something with zoom feature as a part of the gameplay only to have them contemplate if they are seeing faces.
Yeah, that's the most disappointing thing about this game. Not only is the image the developer used for the 'alien' a very common scary image that's been floating around on the internet for like a decade now, but all it does is appear and bounce around the visor like the DVD logo, it would've made sense for there to be a real alien that like grabs and kills the player, not some cheap jumpscare. Everything else about this game seemed really cool actually, and the whole concept/idea of a horror game in space is for some reason not used enough, aside from Prey and Dead Space, other games may bring you to space occasionally like Half-Life but it isn't the main ordeal, or some games like DOOM are set in space but DOOM isn't really scary, it's just gory and brutal. Especially on the moon, literally the perfect place to make a horror game, and I can't think of any horror game besides this one that takes place there.
@@koolaid33 There's also (allegedly) a point-and-click horror game set on a space station. It's on steam, and it's by a guy called Script Welder. They made the Don't Escape and Deep Sleep trilogies.

That’s true, but honestly fixing the jumpscare is, in my opinion, one of the easiest parts of a horror game to fix. Making an interesting setting, plot, building up dread and distress, that’s the hard part. And the creator nailed the setting and the dread. The creatures on the hills you never see, switching from tracking your distance from the radar to tracking an object 2500 MILES away that’s rapidly approaching…the build up was honestly masterful, I would love to see more from this creator. That being said, yes the jumpscare is pretty disappointing, but the creator got the harder parts of creating a horror game right!

the shaking is because of how the game processes location. distance from center is a number, and as you go along due to math the number gets less and less accurate as you get farther from center. eventually it will get to the point of shaking because the math says you're bouncing between two points
the real fun is when the whole game really starts falling apart and you can be like meters between the points its averaging out...or even kilometers.

There's a Jungi Ito's Manga where some scientists are studing this particular radiation that can be found only in space and inside this tunnel
And at the end of the Manga is revealed that this radiation are actually Ghosts
Destiny Dreams are one of the strangest and scariest experiences. But do not be swayed by them they just happen to be coincidence
There's an X-Files episode about the exact idea of Ghosts on Mars.
The funny thing is that the dream was triggered by that old phone ring tone called UFO or something
Honestly scary concept. I really wish they elaborate more on the story and game.
Hugely disagree. It is creepier not knowing anything. This tiny experience is the scariest thing I've seen all year because of how tight it is.

The ambulance had me wheezing
I feel like this game is just short of being amazing
Like the set-up and the aesthetic is damn near perfect. Having something impersonate your friend to try and get you to stop running, and the fact that you know something is coming for you but you can't tell from where? This is all amazing stuff to pull off in an indie horror game
But the actual scare that it leads up to is just bad.
@@noah.8534 Yeah the end scare was a bit of a letdown. Tho I liked the faces. They were subtle and creepy imo. But that’s pretty subjective.

12:45 that's a half-ass jumpscare
@@koolaid33 you should check out observation. It takes place in space
the lead up was super great and I got chills at certain points but that jumpscare is such a let down:( could’ve been so much cooler if it ended on a high note
