Congrats on reacting to something a little off the beaten path when it comes to Skynyrd!! Most people who do reaction vids start with Freebird, Simple Man, Gimme Three Steps, or Sweet Home Alabama. While those are all GREAT songs, and some of Skynyrd's best, they have a LOT of other stuff that's worth checking out. I would suggest Things Goin' On, Every Mother's Son, Mississippi Kid, Mister Banker, and Call Me The Breeze to really get a sense of what they're about. The Ballad of Curtis Loew is an absolute must hear.
There were 7 members in Lynyrd Skynyrd. A year or so after this show three more girls joined as backup singers. Ronnie Van Zant was the greatest frontman and songwriter of any band in history. Long live Skynyrd. RIP to all the fallen members.
All of the original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd have passed away now. The people calling themselves Lynyrd Skynyrd are nothing but a third rate cover band. I had the privilege of knowing the Lynyrd Skynyrd Band from 1973 - 1977 when the plane crashed. They were all very serious and talented musicians who had the magic. THE GREATEST Rock & Roll Band in the history of music
yalls reaction was not what i was expecting. skynyrn has a large following and considered one of the best southern rock bands ever. glad yall like it, and ur reaction was awesome. for that, i subscribed and hit the bell
"I Never Dreamed" and "One More Time" are good songs never played on the radio. RVZ was one of the best song writers that never wrote anything down. He said if it wasnt good enough to remember it wasnt good enough to sing !!
Out of all of the great Skynyrd songs ... and I love them all but this just may be my Fav ...well maybe That Smell too...it's close. Thanks for reacting to this. A good one to do would be T for Texas live from convention hall 1977 ...all 3 guitarist play solo's as does the piano player Billy Powell...The primary lead guitarist in this vid is Gary Rossington. He is still rocking! Thanks again for listening to my Jacksonville boys!!!
This has always been one of my favorite Skynard songs. First time I've seen these two. I will definitely be watching more, but Steph, you gotta let Jay get a word in now and then. Good stuff!
I'm absolutely dying to see a video pop-up of you two listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd Free Bird live in Oakland Coliseum if you haven't done it already please do you love it
I'm glad you got into this masterpiece all the original members of the band are dead , but the band Carry's on with the heart and soul of it's original members . RIP Ronny !
Gary Rossington on lead in that song. They had three lead guitarist. Gary, Allen Collins, and Ed King, which gives you that deep sound. Bassist, drums, keyboard, three harmony singers, lead singer.
More southern rock. Please Gator Country by Molly Hatchet Green Grass and High Tides by Outlaws Curtis Low by Skynyrd Try some peach brandy. Great for sipping. If peach isn't for you. Try apple brandy. So smooth. But will do the business.
Steph nails it. You got it down. BTW ... I was there the following day when they played in Sacramento. Awesome band! 3 lead guitars. Ronnie Van Zant: Vocals, Allen Collins Gibson Firebird: Ed King Fender Stratocaster, Gary Rossington Gibson Les Paul, Artimus Pyle drums, Billiy Powell Piano(wasn't there that night), Leon Wilkeson Fender Bass. Sorry if someone already posted this. I've not read any other comments.
In 1975 Lynyrd Skynyrd consisted of lead singer Ronnie Vanzant, guitarists Gary Rosington, Allen Collins, and Ed King bass player Leon Wilkinson and drummer Artimus Pyle. Ed King left the band late in 75, was replaced by Steve Gaines. A plane crash in October of 77 took the lives of Ronnie, Steve and his sister Cassie Gaines. There was no Skynyrd from 77-87,the surviving members reunite late 87 with Ronnie's brother Johnny on lead vocals. I believe they are now or about to retire. Only one original member still living Gary Rosington. They also had Billy Powell on piano, and backup singers the honketts.
So great...was there (Winterland) in the same year for Bad Company (which was also great)...wish we had mainstream rock bands today writing timeless stuff like this....Thx
Love Lynyrd Skynyrd the original southern rock band Ronnie Van Zant a great singer he was only 29 when he died in the plane crash along with Steve gaines and his sister one of the backup singers Cassie gaines they was in their Prime love you all videos keep them coming
Ronnie VanZant was lead singer Gary Rossington was lead guitarist on this Allen Collins was guitarist Leon Wilkinson on bass and Artimus Pyle on drums, any of the live Skynyrd is gonna be awesome
1964 to 1977, they boys went to grade school together and formed a band when they were 14 or something, maybe even as young as 12 or so. The core 3 or 4 guys from school were always in the band, and the remaining were kinda a revolving door of different amazing people.
Ronnie Van Zant vocals,Gary Rossington guitar,Ed King guitar,Allen Collins guitar,Leon Wilkeson bass ,Billy Powell piano, and the drummer is either Bob Burns(original) or his replacement Artimus Pyle. There is a version of the band still performing that only includeds Gary Rossington but does have Ronnie Van Zants younger brother Johnny on vocals and another early member Ricky Medlocke.Only Rossington and Pyle from classic era of the band are still living
Sorry Steph, in the studio version you can hear the words "Every night when we leave the Holiday Inn, I see you hanging round", which would indeed seem to indicate a groupie. By the time this song came out it had been years since Skynyrd played "clubs"; they were a very successful band that only played arenas. Winterland was one such venue--it was never a "club"; it had previously been an ice skating rink (hence the name). This was in San Francisco, and concert promoter Bill Graham, mentioned by name in the song's intro, had previously booked weekly concerts on both coasts in the Fillmore West (San Francisco) and the Fillmore East (New York City). There was a movie made of the final concert at the Fillmore West. I think you can even find it on UA-cam.
Sorry Michael, but the lyrics are: "Every night when we leave the hall, baby, I see you hangin round. You wanna ride in my big black car, you wanna go uptown...... BUT you are right, he is speaking of a groupie. Ronnie told me that most of the subjects of his songs were taken from true stories that happened while he was on the road. Sometimes he would take a few incidents and mix them into one song. I think i was one of the incidents that he mixed with another that he turned into one of his songs (not On the Hunt). But since its kind of a long story and i need to go to bed, i won't get into that right now. But there's a little information for anyone interested about his songwriting.
Steph and Jay, I like you two. You just happened to play my favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd video. You don't constantly interrupt and talk nonsense like some people. This was an incredibly talented southern rock band. Their career was cut short by a tragic plane crash in 1977. Howard Stern interviewed one of the survivors. It's an incredible story. That interview might be difficult to find, but you can find other interviews. Keep doing what you're doing !!!! I have watched several shows like yours tonight ( maybe 15) yours was the best. Some people misinterpret ( according to me ) what they see. You might wanna check out Crosby, Stills ,Nash, and Young . Neil Young (solo).. Also, Stephen Still: Treetop Flyer. These guys are incredibly talented. Some of the best from the '70's. I like Rock. Hope you do too. Hope you do some more. You two do it in a fun , rational way.
Drummer Artimus Pyle, vocals Ronnie Van Zant. guitars lead and rhythm Gary Rossinton, Allen Collins, (Steve Gaines joined the band later on in '76, i believe). Piano Billy Powell, bass Leon Wllkeson. In 1976 in addition Steve Gaines, the Honkettes JoJo Billingsley White, Leslie Hawkins. Cassie Gaines ( background vocals). On October 20,1977 their plane crashed near Gillshurg,MS. The Pilot end the co pilot were also killed. There were 29 on board. The current Lynyrd Skynyrd band is fronted by Ronnie's brother Johnny. And Gary Rossington and Artimus Pyle are the only surviving members of the pre 1977 band. Artimus Plye is not in the current line up of the L.S.band. I met Ronnie in 1975 and he was a very gifted and extraordinary man. Many, many people love and remember him still,
lol you guys crack me up. I enjoyed this. And yes, that was the late great Ronnie Van Zant who died in 1977 in the plane crash that killed one of the guitarist. his sister, and the tour manager. Lynyrd Skynyrd had lead vocals: Ronnie Van Zant, bassist: Leon Wilkerson. pianist: Billy Powell. drummer: Artymus Pyle. lead/ryhthm guitar: Gary Rossington, lead/rythm guitar :Ed King. lead/rythm guitar: Allen Collins. Yes!..3 lead/rythm guitarist and they were all top notch. 3 girls on back-up vocals, in which 1 died in the crash of '77. The guitarist that you watched playing is the only member that remains alive that still plays with Skynyrd. The drummer is still alive but, no longer in the band. The current lead singer of Skynyrd is Ronnie Van Zant's baby brother, Johnny. I recommend Simple Man. It is a song for all common folk. On the Hunt was a great choice. Try listening to the studio version through a good stereo. It is excellent. :
Idk how many times I've watched this reaction video over the past 4 or 5 months , but every time I watch it I am so totally entertained . Steph and Jay , y'all are so damn awesome , so comical , and just so damn special because you two are what the world needs right now . A smile and a good laugh right now are getting hard to come by the things are going in the world and you two are a ray of sunshine . Thanks for making me smile , it's been a long time . Another Great honest and fun reaction! Lynyrd Skynyrd’s first album released in 1973. Lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, and backup singer Cassie Gaines were killed in an airplane crash on October 20, 1977. The band ended that year. In 1987 Lynyrd Skynyrd reformed with Ronnie’s little brother Johnny Van Zant on vocals. Currently the band is finishing up their final Tour.
7 guys in this really underated southern rock group. Ronnie Van Zant lead vocalist, Allen Collins is a really bluesy guitarist. Unfortunately 3 died in a tragic plane crash. This is my favorite song by them however the group has a litany of smash hits including Simple Man..I like the show😊
I think both of you had very good narratives about what he’s actually singing about. LOVE this song and Corrosion of Conformity do a kick ass version of this song I think y’all would really ❤️!!!!!!
I watch a lot of reactions, first time watching you guys, really enjoyed it. Will definitely be watching more 🙂. Skynyrd was definitely taken from us to soon! Also Jay you are a lucky man, no more hunting for jay😉
A great group. Try any live version of Free Bird. Greatest song I ever heard. Simple Man is also great. Listen to those songs and you'll wind up wanting to hear their whole catalogue. Skynyrd was popular from around 1972 or 73 through 1977. That October they were in a plane crash. Front man and vocalist Ronnie Van Zant and Steve and Cassie Gaines were all killed. The band reformed in the late 80's, but most of us old timers think the band really died in that plane crash. The guitarists were Allen Collins, Gary Rossington and Steve Gaines who was added about a year before the plane crash
