I did the same thing. Stumbled upon this style of swinging during one magical round about a year ago. Got away from it because it wasn’t what I was “supposed” to be doing.(?!?!) Only in the past month or so have I gotten back to it and found your videos as confirmation. I feel better now for “only” having wasted a year lol.

I was always told I came OTT in my swing and that’s why I was slicing it and pushing it right or fading it, I just had a lesson and coach said I have a natural in to out swing path which creates a draw. I was hitting the dead center of the club face but every time I made contact my club face was open and had nothing to do with my swing. He didn’t tweak anything about my swing or grip other than hinging my wrists more I think to help me control the club face more and I was hitting it a lot straighter and better contact. I started experimenting with out to in swing paths and more in to out and natural as well and you’ll be amazed at what actual shots you can hit just have to be aware of the club face.

@@tristanwatkins7819 much more repeatable for me than trying to close my club face down with an in to out swing. I was in to out all my life and struggled hard with hooks. I started doing some swing speed training and found my swing is more fluid with out to in path, much more consistent, now I'm not talking 10 degrees, usually 3-5 degrees. Now I fight a straight ball vs just off the fairway right with a fade vs in the woods left with a dick hook. I also hit the ball farther this way, club speed up to 121 on mevo.

Christo -- he's absolutely doing the counter-clockwise shaft circles! He was a hook miss and was searching for a long time dating back to the Hank Haney days to get that inside path more neutral. So much if not all of teaching today and discussion these days is on shallowing and creating a clockwise shaft circle. Maybe that's a good feeling for slicers?? But for the rest of us out here who have a natural tendency to swing too much from the inside .... "counter-clockwise" shaft circles are the way to feel the moves! Ironically, most baseball players who circle the bat in their pre-pitch warmup (if they circle the bat) -- do it counter-clockwise

Can you define what "Over The Top" means?
Because as far as I know, Tiger has always stated (and I believe he does this better than almost anyone) that he attempts to take the club back and bring it back to the ball ON THE SAME PATH/LINE.
The fact that Tiger over-exaggerated a PRACTICE swing to remind himself to do something special on that shot doesn't mean he swings "over the top."
Let me be clear, I am glad you have found something that works for you. I am glad you are sharing your information with the world and attempting to help make people better. But that doesn't mean you get to take anyone you want and loop them under your realization. Tiger does not swing like Bobby Jones, he never has. I agree, Bobby Jones is the poster-child for Over The Top. But you need to stick to that standard.
Tiger is not an "Over The Top" hitter.

I just had an epiphany recently... It was always blatantly obvious, but it just dawned on me that in the swing there will be an equal counter reaction to every action. So, in my effort to "stop coming over the top" I keep getting more and more low and inside on my takeway, and that forces my body to adjust on the downswing. Every time producing a drop in the shoulder and a steep over the tops swing. BUT it felt more like what I imagined an inside swing would feel like.
It wasnt until I just rewatched Tom Watson discussing his swing "secret", that I realized that what I really felt like was over the top actually put me right on plane. Hence here I am watching your videos and hearing you discuss all the same things, and similar videos we have watched. I wish I would have understood this before age 39 now that I have really hurt my back!

My instructor’s been teaching this release for 30 years, however there are prerequisites to make it work, including set-up, pivot, grip and having sufficient lag. It’s great for clubface control/stability. It’s what O’grady termed a Cp (centripetal) release.

  • @billygraham5589
    @billygraham5589 2 роки тому +1

I also note the great hitters hit into their left side. Stopping the hands and then extending/turning to get through the hitting area. ... the clubhead is slinging forward by a “release” action. Not saying someone cannot find a way to hit the ball well “holding” all the way, but the “release” makes the game easier I dare say. (The hands and arms method/release focused swing is my personal favorite - I add I can do it with the Hogan style of swing, i.e. keeping the right elbow down and tight to the torso all the way from the top to contact).

  • @realhi-fihelplarry8047
    @realhi-fihelplarry8047 2 роки тому +1

I think that a key element to this is to NOT lose the built up shoulder turn going down towards the ball in the downswing while keeping the right palm facing down towards the ground together with the left wrist, and then only at the very end closing in on the ball, then gradually doing this movement. Doing it that way, then you have more of an ability doing this Tiger move correctly, and then it won't feel so much like a lose swing over the top, but more like you are able to throw something very heavy.
I believe strongly that the better that this move gets done, the more you can with some machine measure the amount of pull going through the ball. One should invent some kind of machine that like in armwrestling, measuring the pull force.

I believe that when Tiger uses this swing he's trying to hit a cut & isn't his normal swing if he wants to draw it because it just wouldn't work. If you watch his practice swing, it goes left across his body to hit a cut. Spieth's practice swing is only to get a specific feeling to his swing. If he actually used that move in his real swing, the ball would always start left & fade right as well.

This is a fantastic concept! I think it will help many golfers.
It would also be important to explain what type of release this because for the average person trying to roll their wrists or go radial/ulnar this will mess thrm up until thry grasp what they should be doing at impact.
I do disagree that this is the "most" efficient way to leverage the club because Justin Thomas is very much under and up this is over and down. There are many professionals who swing under and up that play at very high levels and have tremendous swing speeds.
Also I feel there is a down side to this mechanism in that for a wedge game it can be very erratic.
This video was very enlightening I just think that each golfer should try many different things before they decide THIS is THE best. Tiger abandoned this method for a reason.
If golfers learned their wrists outward first the game would be a lot less complicated.

      ua-cam.com/video/jR4r4g7tDWQ/v-deo.html
It is just a feeling used to get your arms out in front of you more and not feel so dumped under plane, stuck and flippy.

Don’t go back to it. Instead consistently use the little finger of your trail hand to press against the middle of the grip of your club throughout the start to the very finish of your swing. And watch a real miracle happen each and every time. Cheers 👍😃⛳️⛳️

This is genius! I'm so glad you solved this Cristo. It explains so much to me. I finally understand the other swing where it's more over/under and up(radial/ulnar, hold the angle etc).
This specific pattern that you have solved is so opposite that I find it fascinating! On tour and in long drive we see all sorts of things people do that create speed and control. It's so nice to have sone clarity on these mechanics.
Thank you for your efforts. I think this will help many people for years to come.

First of all Ben Hogan is the greatest player to ever play golf he only entered sixteen majors and won nine he went in the service in his dead nut prime then got hit by a greyhound bus after the service the only reason he lived was because he dove in front of his wife or the steering wheel would have crushed him to death hence his legs were bad the re4st of his life and he still won 71 times.

I'm obviously a huge Ben Hogan fan. He missed 30 majors in his prime due to WWII, the accident, and missing the British Open every time but once. At the end of the day, we only have the record we have. Jack has 74 wins and 18 majors. Tiger has 82 wins and 15 majors. It's pretty close!

He’s trying to hit a fade or having swing issues and is exaggerating what he’s trying to feel to correct it. I hit 1 like this today trying to hit a fade but it went almost straight. Solid as fk shot too but my miss is a hook and on this hole I could not miss left and it worked nicely. I’d say if you struggle w Contact try this and learn to play a cut because it’s def easier if you already miss both ways n need a new approach

Sorry, really don't see how Tiger is OTT, even if he practices his cut feel like that. Maybe your definition is different, but his club very clearly goes below plane in the downswing (i.e. it shallows a bit).

@@MiracleSwingExperienceIn the practice feel they go OTT, in the swing they shallow slightly. Then there's that low and left hand path after impact, which I believe is a result of shaft lean + pivot. And that low and left is what gives the impression of OTT I think.

@@auriferous4462 This is correct. They FEEL OTT, but aren't actually OTT. Unless you completely redefine OTT to mean hands over the backswing plane. Which is incorrect. You can hear a really great explanation of it here:

@@plugger4945 That is not the correct definition of OTT. You can't use the backswing plane as the barometer for what over the top is.
OTT is when the club is thrown outside the intended swing plane with the club head approaching the ball from outside to in. It happens because of over use of the upper body.

I’m sorry I don’t see it at all. Tiger was rehearsing OTT but when he swings it does not come over the top. Other teachers use Hogan in their Stack and Tilt AND traditional swings. Now Hogan swung over the top? You’re not swinging over the top, because your swing is actually on plane, not over the top of it. Maybe you’re doing some move down by the ball but by then you can do a lot of things because you’re in a much better position then I will be when I’m literally cutting across the ball. You have a free trial for your course? I’m very curious about this.

Telling high handicap players who tend to aim right and get the shaft steep in transition to swing over the top is a complete recipe for disaster.
Tiger does not, nor has he ever swung over the top. He is simply making a practice swing and over doing feels to not get stuck which has alway been an issue for him.
His swing is not over the top.
How the hell do you take a practice swing of Tiger and say he swings “over the top”? That’s is absolutely laughable!
