Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, and Jared Leto look at how Leto created the unforgettable character of Rayon in this DALLAS BUYERS CLUB featurette.
Matthew McConaughey stars in Jean-Marc Vallée’s DALLAS BUYERS CLUB as real-life Texas cowboy Ron Woodroof, whose freewheeling ways are cut short in 1985 when he is diagnosed as HIV-positive and given 30 days to live. Shunned by many of his old friends and unable to access possible life-saving treatments, Woodroof takes matters into his own hands and starts a “buyers club” with a HIV+ transsexual Rayon (Jared Leto). Rejecting the advice of his physician, Dr .Eve Saks (Jennifer Garner), Woodroof tracks down alternative treatments from all over the world, thus prolonging his life, and the life of others around him. Also starring Denis O’Hare, Steve Zahn, Dallas Roberts, and Griffen Dunne.

He was incredible in this movie. 100% deserved his oscar
jared is great
He was awesome in this role!! He definitely deserved the award!! 👍👍👍
People hate that he had that role now.
They both were great in this very important film. When Ron sues to FDA in court over the peptide-T usage as being non toxic and the judge sides with him, as well as calls out the FDA for it's bullying tactics, it was a truly awesome moment even though the judge admits he cannot do anything. They even applaud Ron when he returns. He later succeeds and lived more than 7 years past the time he was originally given in his prognosis.
"God help me" "He's helping you I have aids" tears..
That scene broke my heart.
Broke my heart too 😔
same
I like how he said "it wasn't a choice, dad."
That scene alone would have derserved an other Oscar, it was heartwrenching.
The interesting thing is, when Rayon, dressed in men's clothing, is speaking to her father, she still seems like a woman. In fact, the men's clothing seems awkward and incorrect. That's how well he played the role.
***** "The power of film".
***** She means a transgender woman. Trans women are women stuck in men's bodies. Drag queens are just men in dresses, although some drag queens are trans. Rayon is a woman in a man's body - a trans woman.
***** having balls doesn't make someone a "dude".
@@NameThingHere it certainly doesn't make them a space ship
i agree. his acting is so phenomenal and he truly loved rayon as a person through his performance. damn i need to throw away the onion now 😫
i have NEVER EVER seen an actor speak with more love about a character he plays than Jared...his eyes sparkle when he talks about Rayon. That's an actor ladies and gentleman!!
nice comment! i was thinking the same!
best performance i've seen in a long time. The soft movements, the voice, the look.... I believed him in every second and totally forgot about "jared leto". It was the performance of a lifetime. And I think even as a woman he looked absolutely beautiful. (no surprise here!) :)
I'm very proud of you, Jared.
Oh boy.....i hope you've seen his joker
@@pierrejecrois8316 how is that relevant lol
Man when rayon and ron hug what a tear jerker, at that point its not about gay or straight its about being human/with a illness that does not discriminate.
wow I almost cried in just 6 minutes of this video. Bravo Jared Leto.
IKR. I had no idea how really good he was in this movie. He disappeared into his role.
Kinda mental
This character touched and broke my heart immensely. Such a well deserved Oscar. I applaud Jared Leto for portraying the beautiful Rayon. Nobody could've done it better.
Griffin Kowash i take from your tone that you disapprove of the casting of jared leto for this role, because he is a straight man. Therefore, by your logic you are saying that trans actors shouldn't play the role of a straight man. I think thats unfair, don't you?
@@Kokiri971 not really
I am so proud of you ❤️
Yeah a trans woman definitely couldnt have portrayed a trans woman better 😑
I just watched this movie and Jared Leto absolutely blew me away. His character was loving, funny, and was the perfect match for Matthew McConaughey's character because they were total opposites. Half the time I forgot it was even Jared Leto playing the character. And I absolutely love how he defends his performance and character against people who think it's "wrong" and "immoral". This role not only proved how great of an actor Jared Leto is, but it also proved how much of a genuine and caring person he is. Go Jared Leto!
I couldn't have said it better myself. In one of the interviews he talks about how he would walk around supermarkets in character and all the dirty looks he got and how that really inspired him
this guy is pretty underrated. He is a very good actor and never really got the recognition that he deserves. I'm glad that he got the chance to shine in this movie.
He won an Academy Award.
@@americanrroyalty Yes, for THIS movie. That’s the whole point of their comment.
Both Jared and Matthew were phenomenal in this film, but Jared's performance made me so emotional and I felt so much empathy for the character of Rayon. Both Oscars were well deserved.
"I'll be a beautiful angel." This scene made me cry. Jared Leto I salute you! Please keep it up! :'D
Oscar Scene!!!
Rayon is one of the most heartwarming characters ever created in film. Her journey is so moving throughout the film, portrayed brilliantly by Jared. I loved watching the relationship develop between Ron and rayon. Just beautiful :)
Whenever Jared was on screen he was the scene. Great performance!
You're so right...I literally could not take my eyes off of him. I've been trying to think of someone else who could have played this part...and I can't...he is that extraordinary!
Jared Leto the hottest. He's both I think. So hot!!!!
God Help me.
- He is Helping you I have aids.
Such a powerful exchange there.
That scene was pretty heartbreaking.
and that scene when asked where did that money and says..i sold my life insurance policy, it’s not like i’m gonna need it anyway!😢
Jared Leto is an incredible actor and I just fell in love with Rayon. It's just wow and that Oscar was 100% deserved.
Jared nailed this role. Rayon was/is a once in a lifetime character. So happy he won.
I couldn't believe how great he was in this movie, Leto and also McConaughey were both well deserving of their Oscar wins
This was perhaps one of the most powerful and most amazing performances of all time.
well deserved ! Rayon was so real and touched my heart
i swear if he doesnt win the oscar, i am never watching award shows ever again.
He won!! :D
zakuradragon I SAW! I AM BURSTING WITH PRIDE AND JOY!
zakuradragon he certainly earned it. i loved rayon
To be honest, I think people nowadays are too sensitive that they victimuzed themselves without noticing. This is my favourite character, and what I remember is her affection towards friends and her courage to be herself. People really need to be more open-minded, instead of seeing what they want to see.
Him
I have seen every single movie he has been in, and he is with out a doubt one of the best character actors I have ever seen. He was phenomenal in Chapter 27 and Mr. Nobody, but this role puts all of his others to shame. I completely forgot that I was watching my idol on screen half way through the movie. I forgot that it was Jared, he made me (and I'm sure many others) believe that he was Rayon. Such a wonderful, once in a lifetime role for a phenomenal, once in a lifetime actor.
EDITED TO FOR CLARIFICATION.
HE refers to Jared Leto
I was crying just by watching this clip. He really deserved to win, REGARDLESS OF HIS GENDER. I don't understand why people have to overly trivialize things like "oh he's portraying a transgender, no it should be a real one..." like I remember what a casting director said when people in China got flustered when Zhang Ziyi was cast as a geisha... "it's about potential, not nationality." Or better yet, let us all remember what Mo'Nique said... "it's about the performance, and not the politics."
Don't have to worry or care about his gender he's beautiful as a woman and his beautiful as a man he just a beautiful person I love Jared
Am I the only one that cried during the feature?
No...
Definitly not
It's good to see an actor talk with real love, respect & affection for their character, and even better to see a transgender person portrayed that way on screen
Jared Leto was born to play this role and he becomes Rayon. Nobody could have played Rayon with the same method that Jared carries out and lets the audience see.
Why would you steal my thoughts ! 😁
He could play Bowie!
is a movie about bowie coming out!?😱😱😱😱😱
Am I the only one that randomly started crying?
3 weeks to prepare for this role...amazing.
Rayon is the perfect example of someone who's lived through trauma, but still sees the light and is still a decent, kind and good person. She does not use her trauma as an excuse to abuse others or to get away with doing bad shit. What a character Jared brought to life.
jared u really deserve that oscar
I can't believe that this man is 42.
When he told his dad he had aids. I lost it :( the tears were real
Absolutely mesmerizing.
The best scene in the movie is actually right after he meets his dad, and he's posing with the dress. They took that scene out of context in this video. In the movie, it really breaks your heart, because you get behind him 100% and see what he's dealing with. Leto will win the Oscar.
First of all: amazing actor. Secondly: he has better legs than 90% of women. Damnit, I'm jealous. XD
not to mention he is also one of the best songwriter/vocalist of 30 seconds to mars
@@vxnolimit Amazing band
@@jeremysmith54565 right on
jared/rayon shines so bright in every situation. heartbreaking and loving.
I think this might be my favorite movie ever. The whole cast, especially Jared Leto, put their heart & soul into their performance, and it paid off big time. Such an important film with a powerful message. This movie changed my life.
Just watched this today. Very powerful movie and great acting, both of them earned those awards.
this could possibly be the best performance in the history of cinema
Beautiful character profile. I adore Rayon.
man he played rayon perfectly
This movie could change the mind of the entire world.. for something better♥
Totally deserved that oscar he killed this
Rayon is such a beautiful character. I loved every moment of this movie. It was truly moving.
absolutely amazing. I saw this movie today. Brilliant job Jared..so touching..
Rayon is extraordinary, I love this character profoundly
he was made for this role !!! he's defiantly and suppose to get this oscar ! first time i saw these clips i thought that it was a real girl ! when i saw leto in person i couldn't believe it ! he's a flawless actor !!
I loved Rayon, and cried when she died. The one scene I hated was the
one with Rayon,s father-the guy came off as very homophobic
He was supposed to
Great movie. All the actors were great. But Jared Leto absolutely stole the show in my opinion. His portrayal of Rayon was incredible. He definitely deserves that Oscar, no questions asked. The way portrayed the character was so powerful, I feel like the movie could have been just about Rayon, and his life. Amazing.
Rayon was amazing!!!!!! *.*
Jared Leto was beyond amazing in this film! I watched it and forgot it was even him, he really became Rayon. & Rayon really was the heart of this movie if that character wasn't in the film it would not be the same film at all. So happy that Jared got recognized for this role, it was very well deserved :)
Please DO NOT watch this video if you haven't seen the movie yet.
tooo late
I really do hope Jared wins the Oscar , He deserves it so much. His portrayal of Rayon was Awesome...
And he did :')
I haven't even seen the movie yet, but just watching these few scenes were so powerful.......I almost cried......almost.
This movie was amazing ! Jared keeps performance was phenomenal !!!!!!
it sucks that both Fassbender and Leto got nominated this year. I mean, it's awesome that they get recognition, but they both deserve to win an oscar for their performances and it sucks that only one of them can. Two of my favorite performances of all time.
Well, the Academy has had ties in the past. You never know. Hell, they just took back a nomination so anything's possible.
They had one last year so I don't think they will this year. It would be a damn dream come true tho!
Congrats to Jared for winning the Oscar, when Rayon said "I Don't Want To Die" l totally lost it and burst into tears. Such a Fantastic Movie, again Congrats to Jared and Mathew.
wow, it's such an amazing performance, bravo Jared!
This was one of the best films I've seen in a long time, hands down.
Congrats Jared you won the Oscar Well deserve it ♡♥♡♥♡♥
When I watched this movie, I was like, "HOLY SHIT, LETO AND McCONAUGHEY BLEW ME AWAY!" I did not know that mcconaughey had that capability to be such an affective method actor, a few talented people have today, like christian bale, De Niro, daniel day-lewis and leo dicaprio, and those that are not with us like Brando, Bogart, Grant, and Heston.
I hated McConaughey's image prior to Dallas Buyer's because of his douchiness and tendency to do romantic comedies (though he was great in Dazed and Confused). But after his performance in this movie, he showed the world that he can be world-class and it surprised the hell out of me.
I knew that Leto always has had a great talent and was always underrated. His performance in Requiem for a Dream was also oscar-worthy. I think his good looks overshadowed his talents. I also love his music. It's about time he gets kudos!
My husband passed away from cancer. The struggle is the same. I'm smitten with Rayon x
Totally deserved the Oscar. Best performance of 2013.
Absolutely remarkable acting here! I completely forgot he was Jared Leto... he was just Rayon! It took a while after I watched the movie and thought to myself, Hey Wait a minute! That was Jordan Catalano! He took this role and turned it into something out of this world. I guess this is the magic of acting. In my opinion, Rayon stole the show! I wanted to know more about Rayon (granted he was a fictional character) but I wanted to watch a movie about Rayon! Awesome job, Jared! MIND OFFICIALLY BLOWN!
You are amazing Jared Leto, Youve touched my heart.. such a great talent. :)
I haven't even watched this incredible movie yet and I'm tearing up!
Mr. Jared Leto is an Amazing human being. Period.
The "father of American minstrelsy" was Thomas Dartmouth "Daddy" Rice (1808-60), who in 1828, in a New York City theatre, performed a song-and-dance routine in blackface and tattered clothes. Rice's character was based on a folk trickster persona named Jim Crow that was long popular among black slaves. Rice also adapted and popularized a traditional slave song called Jump Jim Crow.
LADYOF LYN oh for the love of god just shut up already.

Very impressed. The brooding hunk from My So Called Life has made good.
Jared is fucking AMAZING!
he better win the oscar
He did
I have a gut felling he'll be a very good joker
Hahaha
This comment aged well
He really did an amazing job playing this lost soul of a character. He deserved to win.
When i was watching the movie i kept forgetting that Rayon was actually Jared.. i swear he did an amazing job !
his performance in this movie is absolutely astounding! i mean i knew he's a good actor, but i had no idea he's this brilliant! the oscar win is really well deserved.
Absolutely brilliant!
If you can make it through the scene where Ron hugs Rayon without crying, you are made of stone.
Did not cry one bit, and I am not made of stone. You do not dictate another persons emotions. I do not agree with changing who you are, this is like telling God He made a mistake and God makes not mistakes. I do want happiness for all now the scene with his father was far more touching, and very sad. Even if I did not agree with my child's lifestyle, I would find a compromise if they were willing to work with me. I cried with 12 years a slave much more touching story.
mspinkytee
Fuck yourself!
mspinkytee
Rayon was who SHE was and I love her for it. I respect and truly admire anyone who is liberated enough to be themselves.
Fuck anyone who says differently.
He should win best supporting actor at the Oscar's this year, and if he is not nominated then I have lost all hope for cinema!
So happy for him
Jared Leto won the oscar
very strong impressive performance, you nailed it jared
never heard of him until i was told he was gonna play joker in suicide squad!! Looked him up and WOW!! i understand why he deserves a role like the joker!!! Its a really hard role!
Look up his band 30 Seconds to Mars and you'll realize that he's not only a man transforming people's opinions and views with his acting but someone who has set out (often at great risk to his own health/life) to create a generation of dreamers and Unite us all as family. He came from nothing and fought hard to be where he is today and he is a shining testament to the power of dreams and hard work.
LilMissBugsie he's so amazing and so is 30 seconds to mars. They're so inspiring and life changing :)
Me too, I looked him up when I heard he was playing the Joker, now im obsessed!! This man is amazing!
If you haven't seen much of Leto before, I highly suggest his role in the 2001n masterpiece, "Requiem for a Dream." He plays an ambitious, young drug hustler who just cannot escape Coney Island, NY. Jennifer Connelly, Ellen Burstyn (robbed of an Oscar over this) and Marlon Wayans, in addition to Leto, make this an almost perfect movie But it isalso very, VERY tragic and dark, so prepare yourself, but the most brilliant film you will ever see. Directed by Darren Aronofsky (The Black Swan, Noah, etc.)
you know what pisses me off? Like a lot? Is that there are many people that don't like/hate 30stm, and that's ok cuz it's their opnion, but most of them criticizes Jared's work as an actor just because they don't like the band. DUDE, what is the matter with you people?? He deserves ALL the award for this role! and he's a GREAT actor, in every single way! so haters, please, have some respect for this amazing actor. Thank you
One of my favorite characters in the movies I've seen thus far as of late. Mesmerizing, raw, real, beautiful, Rayon
Congrats two all.....Congrats Jared :)
When I rented the DVD, I knew only the basic storyline, and that Matthew McConaughey was in it. I became so enthralled by Rayon, I paused it to look up, on IMDb, the name of the actress playing her, but also had the fleeting thought that they'd cast an unknown transgender in the role. I was stunned by what I discovered. My favorite film character, hands down. Leto's role was so substantial, and crucial, that I felt he deserved to be nominated for Best Lead vs Supporting Actor, with a tie ensuing between he and MM. But the odds being so stacked against that occurring, I suppose it worked out for the best.
He ( Rayon) made me realised that beauty isn't in looks or ones sexuality, it's in the heart. Well done Jared for a good interpretation of that role.
His performance in this movie always leaves me speechless. He looks so beautiful and delicate.
I want a Rayon spin-off.
Я только недавно увидела этот фильм . Не могу налюбоваться гениальной работой актёров. Как хочу услышать эту программу по-русски. Смотрю смотрю смотрю . Гениально.
I consider myself to be kind of heartless when it comes to people dying in movies. Like I don’t care really when people die in films but I cried like a baby when rayon started crying and saying “I don’t want to die.”
Amazing movie, amazing actor, amazing tears all over my face
Aw Jared
Seeing him win the oscar for this role makes me want to see this film even more now.
Amazing final scene between these two characters. To think that at 6:10 was the first & last time they ever hugged. #thefeelsarereal
What a deep film... life is truly precious
There were very few times when I could really appreciate acting as an art. Jared Leto's performance in this film was one of them.
Totally deserved he was amazing but not only in this movie he is great in every role and performance he does
