I actually assumed that you already played them 😂 I thought that the “Thrifty Typewriter” name was inspired by the typewriter save system that the RE games have
@@best_of_eliwhat other franchise has a typewriter in it? Especially the original RE trilogy. The typewriter is very pronounced. It’s not that much of a stretch to make that connection.
Mixing Red and Blue herbs create a defensive buff that allows you to take decreased damage and be immune to poison for the duration of the little timer. Super useful in the sewers and through heavy infested areas
I would definitely recommend 7 and 8. They're in 1st person, though you can switch to 3rd person in 8, unlike the other RE games but they are still excellent.
I always thought your username was a reference to the RE typewriter, since you have a lot of zombie-media content!! Glad to see you covering some resident evil, this and the cod zombies vids are so exciting in terms of channel direction
The 2002 Resident Evil remake is not only the best of the franchise in my opinion but tied with Silent Hill 2 as the single greatest survival horror video game ever made. As such, I would absolutely recommend going back and playing it, along with the PS1 trilogy, Code Veronica, Zero, etc. Resident Evil is my favorite video game franchise of all time, old and new games alike, so it's always exciting when people first start getting into it.
@@JaiProdz Those games never really clicked with me since I wasn't able to experience them online as intended. Outbreak on single player is honestly really boring in my opinion. I'd like to see remakes of those titles that actually provide proper online support.
@@joshuanelson6795 That is a fair take on RE Outbreak, although I Gotta say the 2002 Remake of RE1 is most definitely not the best Remake in the franchise RE2 Remake is, but that is my opinion and I respect yours have a nice day.
Leon, Jill, and Ethan have my heart. RE is so awesome to me, no game series has ever felt the same. RE4 is the game that I watched my mom play and that got me into the series when I was little. I've been trying to go back and play them all myself ever since. I was super sad that my mom didn't live to see the RE4 Remake and that I couldn't share that experience with her, she would've loved it. I'm really hoping for more remakes, too, like the original RE, Revelations, and RE5, I really like the over the shoulder gameplay more than the fixed camera angles.
leon and jill yea, but idk about ethan, he just didnt feel important to me or like he really did much. he was just some average guy looking for his wife and child, ig thats why people like him but everyone else is cool because they're linked to military and go on all these missions. like leon is a secret agent and a cop, hes completely selfless willing to risk his life for a single person who he's never even met, hes got a sense of humor and a personality, and comparing that to ethan it really feels like they missed out on making him a more memorable character. i mean, im not saying we needed another military member as a main character, but they could have given him some sort of a personality, instead he was just a mold man who got killed off within 2 games
@@arwen08 He's easier to relate to compared to the others. His character is more grounded and being more like a normal person, it allows you to feel the same blindside that he does. I got attached to Ethan a lot more than the others, too, because of this choice. Most people can't relate to being a demon slaying super cop, but plenty can relate to just trying to survive or saving their family. He was a really good husband and an even better father, selfless to the end. The military overpowered characters tend to get boring, Chris is the number one example of this for me. Changing it up was a really good choice for the series after the RE5 and 6.
@@arwen08 The only OG I'm really missing is Jill, after RE3R, I want to see her more. The rest need a break, though, Chris and Leon especially. We just got RE4R, and RE2R not that long ago, and Chris is just overused imo, he was awful in Village. I know they're done with Ethan's story, but I definitely want to see where they take the series next, seeing as Rose is the apex (for lack of a better word) of the series and they tied all the lore together pretty nicely in Village. Another new character and perspective would be really nice, for sure.
All I can say as someone who also just recently started loving the franchise a few years ago, enjoy every minute of your time on each titles especially going on to 7, and 8
Wish you would have started with the first remake. It's still one of if not the best game in the series. It is older with controls that take adjusting to but it is the quintessential RE experience
I ADORE these games. The books too! There’s sooooo much lore. If you continue to make videos about RE… man I can only imagine. I am stoked to see you got into them. They were my first taste of zombies and it sparked a life long obsession. I love your walking dead videos and I am stoked to see you expanding your undead horizons!!!
You got really interesting content and videos. I'm glad I found this channel. BTW. I gotta painful story about the new REmakes. I had some experience with Motion Capture and in late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the RE 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part...Now, many years later, when I see how successful those remakes are I can't believe I wasted such an opportunity. In this business one audition can change your entire life.
@@thethriftytypewriter Thank you. On the funny side note; by looking at your channel name I figured you're a RE fan cause the typewriter was a big deal in earlier games, didn't know you were new to the series. If I can recommend something; the two games for 3DS, Mercs and Revalations are pretty cool.
I'm an OG fan of RE series. My first one was Resident Evil 3 Nemesis, when I was 4 years old, and it's still my favorite game of all time. So listen closely You should also try Resident Evil Remake. It's the best game in the series, the atmosphere and graphics still hold up today even after close to 20 years. OG RE2 and RE3 is a must.
Same here. Started with RE7 and was impressed. Next tried Village and was disappointed. Still hadn't really seen what all the hype was about...until I played RE2 remake. The RE2 and RE4 remakes are both masterpieces in my book.
Technology develops exponentially. It has been a decade since 2015, buddy. 9 years passing in any realm of technology means outdated.. objectively. Hence why there has been 2 new generations of consoles since then.
While I suppose it's good that these remakes exist for new fans who "couldn't possibly play something with ugly graphics", part of me also wonders what Capcom could achieve if they spent their resources on developing something new and fresh.
Hey bro not sure if you’ll see this but I recommend going into the 7th one! I got into resident evil back in 2013 with 6 and let’s just say I didn’t enjoy it much lol, but when 7 came out I tried it again and got addicted! 7 really changed the whole game and brought it back to life when it was deemed non redeemable!
I recommend playing the OG version of RE2 for the following reasons: 1. A & B scenarios are more fleshed out and there's more reason to play em in OG over the Remake. There's story differences between A & B, and you fight mostly different bosses between the two scenarios. 2. Zapping system, get item here it may not be in other character's B Scenario. Kill a certain boss, it won't appear the other character's B Scenario as examples.
During the RE2 section, Thrifty Typewriter jokingly said that there were two Mr X’s to fix the weird timeline. However, he may actually be correct. In the original RE2 there were multiple Mr Xs, with one being sent to the R.P.D (the one you see in game) and the others being sent to kill other people. In the more realistic remake universe, there could be two Mr Xs, which is why one was killed by William Birkin and the other killed by Leon.
This is the game series that has kept me going. If I've had a bad day I can always turn one of these games on and forget about it for a few hours. My recommendation on what to play next, play RE5 it's seriously a good game. You should play through it couch co-op style with a friend. There's not much horror at all it but it's very fun.
This title speaks to me so much because I wasn't even alive for the release of OG RE2 but once I played the remake I thought "Just like I remember" 4 was a different story as I was around to see and hear it. Playing it for the first time truly felt like a return to my first experience with RE.
As a resident evil fan I recommend you move to resident evil 7 then 8, rather than delving into the older games with less modern control schemes although in the end it is up to you and I believe you will have a good experience no matter what game you move on to
@@Blade_runner-dh4dw I know but 7 has a fairly disconnected story from the rest of the series you don’t really need to know a whole lot about the series to enjoy it. I was simply recommending it from a newcomer’s perspective
Welcome aboard, Mr. Typewriter. As for your next Resident Evil game in the series, Resident Evil (2002) is an absolute must-play. If nothing else, that would be the next game in the series to recommend. Afterwards, some of the OG games are worth experiencing in their own right. But, that's for another day...
Seeing your love for the series reminds me of myself when I first started playing the remakes Only one right choice now play Re7 I assure you, you will be a big a fan 😂
Resident Evil is such a great franchise. The lore and timeline make absolutely no sense but the games, at least 1-4 and 7 & 8, are fantastic. You can honestly play 7 and 8 without playing 5 and 6 and still understand everything. 5 and 6 aren’t necessarily bad they’re just much different in terms of their gameplay and style. Pumped you’re getting into it and to see more RE content from you. Edit: hopefully they’ll do a proper remaster of the first game at some point equivalent to the recent remasters of 2-4. It’s incredible but I simply cannot go back and play it anymore with those controls and fixed camera angles.
While these 3 are considered "remakes," the developers cut a lot of content. From 2 and 3, the amazing zapping system from 2 and alot of different locations from 3. The only true remake is the Remake of the first one
Re6 is over the top and appropriately unique in the franchise. I recommend an open mind when playing that game because at the end of the day, it is special and does things few mainstream third person shooter even dare to do. Re6 and Re5 represent the action coop era of Re that show promise and offer the value they offer.
RE5 (2009) still lives up to this day. It has a pretty big part in the story. RE6 does not have a lot of storyline connected to the story, but it could be seen as an ending to the story. But the game is super long. I mean very long. RE7 and RE8 are playable without RE6, but you should play RE5 before RE7, then RE8.
how does 5 relate to 7 and 8? 7 and 8 is completely different stories following ethan trying to find his wife and then his daughter, and in the process getting caught up in the baker family's house and then upon moving away, getting kidnapped and brought to yet another village. i dont see how that ties in with 5 or any of the past games?
@@TheKainKail i suppose so, but chris felt like he had such a small part in 8 that you could probably get away with playing the game beforehand. i mean it was such a small part i literally completely forgot he was involved in 8 at all
Man, just because the older titles are outdated doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to give them a chance. Take this from a late fan who started following the series starting with RE5 & 6. When it came to the original games, I first tried CODE: Veronica. It was hard as hell, but I still managed to beat it. Then I played Resident Evil 1 Remake and 0 and got used to those as well before hopping into the original Resident Evil. That was harder compared to the remake, but still I beat it. The only ones that I haven’t beaten are the original RE2 & 3. I’m not giving up on those though. I personally think you should try the original games out, but if you can’t I get it. Fixed cameras and tank controls aren’t for everyone. But I still highly recommend RE1 Remake for a next video. It’s the best RE game in the series. Nothing against RE4, but it’s more action horror than survival horror. 🙂
You need to play the remake to Resident Evil 1. It's not as modern as the other remakes but its truly a masterpiece and way ahead of its time. It will allow you to feel how the original games felt while still being modern enough and well directed enough to help it flow with the other remakes.
They really are all fantastic, I would recommend going back and playing Resident Evil 5. You might be surprised at how good it is, albeit a bit different than traditional Resident Evil. They're all worth playing.
Bro this is wild, I'm relatively new to your channel from your TWD vids and I always thought your name was a reference to Resident Evil. I love this franchise and i'm so glad you enjoyed it!
The re3 remake I remember buying like release day and I refunded it immediately, then I bought it for 15 dollars trying to replay EVERY game in the series… and damn re3 is fucking good what the fuck I don’t understand why it’s so good
Keep in mind that if u played on easy. Ur hand was held the entire time. They gave u more ammo. They allowed u to have auto save. They allowed u to take more damage. They also gave u less enemies
@@Redog68idk why but when I played del lago while speed running on hardcore while I had the flu and couldn’t breathe was the hardest part of the game for me idk why
@@Redog68yeah Salazar was the only one who really gave me issue, keep in mind I’ve never played an RE game extensively other the 5 as a kid and never got too far. Tried 4 again on the switch but just got sidetracked with life. Got the remake on my steam deck and recently just grinded it out and fell in love. Salazar was a bitch for me though I pretty much had to hide the whole time. Big cheese killed me once. And del lago was about as easy as it comes
You should at least try the old ones, I’m 33 years old so it could be the nostalgia of it being one of, if not my first horror experiences, but I absolutely adore the old games just as much but In different ways. I’d be curious to see if they translate well enough to someone in modern times.
I can't believe one of my favorite channels is playing Resident Evil. My favorite Franchise of all time... This is god tier bro. If I recommend something, don't play RE7 just yet. You might be really confused. I'll start with the originals (the ps1 games) and then RE1 remake but after playing the originals. There are short and easy games to dive into overall. The original games are still really good and even tho the gameplay isn't great as the modern, is still easy to play and understand. And don't worry, they are really different but also very similar to the remakes that they don't feel lame or lackluster. They feel equally fun in their own way. The originals were pioneers in the gaming industry, no joking. And then after that, you could try RE4 original, tho this one i think you'll really feel a bit overwhelmed. It's still one of the greastest games of all time but the remake is an improvement on almost everyway, so you might feel it a bit less good. But remember the OG one came out in 2005, having a game with this type of gameplay was revolutionary at the time. THEY ARE WORTH CHECKING OUT!
I also felt like I missed my chance to get into the Resident Evil franchise. I’ve seen the first 2 movies and actually really liked them but I had never played any of the games until earlier this year when I finally decided to buy RE 2 Remake while it was on sale. I never finished it but I got to the underground sewer chess puzzle section before getting distracted by other games but I did like it a lot. Your video just convinced me to go back and finish the game.
Great video, I definitely recommend playing 7 & 8 they do change it up but have a lot to enjoy as well. Also if you were to try 5 I recommend playing it with a friend, its a really fun co-op game in my opinion.
Very good review!! I think many people like Ashley now (I'm one of them) because her original character was truly insufferable lmao, the jump was that big
That’s awesome! Have you ever played the evil within? IMO it has a similar heart pounding feel and a similar amount of action (or inaction depending on playstyle). RE7 was pretty scary too but RE8 didn’t do it for me. But it takes a lot to scare me in media however being unnerved is much better than jump scares. I like long drawn out moments like walking down a hallway, the music starts to ramp up ever so slightly so you know something’s coming but you don’t know what. Or when. Headphones and a dark room are a must! Oh and the evil within a sequel is alright but doesn’t get me like the first one got me at all. Been trying to play Outlast since it’s supposedly the “scariest game of all time” but I find evil within to be much scarier and more interesting to play.
I was like you but I did it the way I think is the best way to play a series for the first time which is play every game from release order. I started with the PS1 games and went all the way through and including as many of the spin offs as possible until I caught up which was 7 at the time. Playing the remakes after having playing the og's was really cool and it's great becoming a fan that got to experience all the series ups and downs and seeing how the series changed over the years in just a few months. I now know all the memes and laugh because I experienced all that stuff. I really believe if you want to go through a series for the first time starting from the first original game and going from there will always be the best way to go imo. Plus you have alot more games to play and get to live in the series world for alot longer doing it this way
Yeah I love most of the Resident Evil games particularly Resident Evil 4 I have huge nostalgia with Resident Evil 4 I played it a lot back in 2005 and It's most likely my favorite in the franchise and the more recent Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is probably my second favorite in the franchise.
I say go for 7 and 8. It gives me a more creepy TWD 'family man trying to survive'' vibe than the cheesy but fantastic action of older entries like the original RE4 or RE5. The remake of RE4 blew me away with how good it was, it had so much to live upto. It was more serious, but it also wasn't bleak.
@thethriftytypewriter As a long time player of the RE series, I would rank re5 over re3 (personal opinion), re6 is hit and miss, but it's not all bad. RE7 revives survival horror that 5 and 6 somewhat lack.
You gotta play the originals to understand a bit better why there’s aren’t perfect. These are good but could off been a lot better if they actually did like the originals. And yea Umbrellas sent multiple Mr. X to kill survivors. And nemesis to kill stars members. To stop them from exposing umbrella.
Fun fact regarding 9:08 throughout all Raccoon City multiple Mr Xs were deployed. If I remember correctly, they were tasked to eliminate all evidence incriminating Umbrella and kill any survivors. Hope you get to play and enjoy more Resident Evil games! :))
Dude I just saw what kind o videos u made, and appears to me that u don’t actually post gameplays. But if u make a series playing all the older games I would be all for it, mainly the original re4. I bet a lot of people would love to see that.
Careful with 5 and 6. 5 is really fun if you have someone to coop with. 6 is just a bloated Michael bay film. 7 and 8 are great again. Code Veronica is a sneaky top 3 in the series and it has a book adaptation that works essentially as a strategy guide for some parts. Very cool series. My personal favorite of all time.
I am glad they have not made the 2002 Resident Evil Remake obsolete, because it is there to show new players how it used to be. It still looks really good too.
I know I’m 9 months late. But if you haven’t played the original 2005 version of RE4, you gotta try it. You wouldn’t have The Last of Us or God of War (2018) without it. There’s also enough differences between the original and remake that warrants its own playthrough.
I just finished the Re2 remake as my first resident evil game. I just bought re4 remake as well. Im not into many game franchises. But this one looks promising. Are the original resident evil games 1-4 good. Do they hold up. Or are they a victim to nostalgia like Fallout New Vegas. Where they have many flaws.
Combining the blue herb with red gives you a boost in defense as well. They come in handy if you’re out of ammo and will absolutely take damage before you get to your next objective.
I also only got into the franchise in January this year. I started with RE7 but actually stopped playing it twice before finally sitting down and finishing it (after finishing RE2R). RE7 was so scary for me I think it’s genuinely inoculated me to a lot of horror now. But it was also RE2R that was my true gateway in and what made me fall in love with the franchise. I’d also strongly recommend playing 7 & 8 next, and then go back to the beginning. RE1 Remake is a masterpiece but I had so much trouble getting more than an hour into it bc I was just confused and alienated by the fixed camera, tank controls and confusing environment. Then I played the original RE2 on PC using the Sourcenext PC ports and REBirth patches. And speaking as someone with zero nostalgia for the originals, I enjoyed it every bit as much as the remake. Just one of the most engaging things I’ve ever played, it was a game changer. And my familiarity with the RPD as a setting is what finally enabled me to get comfortable with the tank controls and finally go and play RE1. People are genuinely not just huffing nostalgia about the originals, they’re masterpieces that have aged INCREDIBLY well.
btw in re2, the note you get as Claire is from her brother Chris, whom she originally came to see, which is why it says he’d left already and was on vacation
Couple of notes: RE2 duel storylines makes more sense in the OG game where as the remake is more abridged versions of the character alternate story RE3 OG is a much better experience in my opinion with more replayability and Nemesis is much better in that game tbh (i like RE3R btw) Please play RE1 Remake, don't be spooked by the fixed camera, from my experience you get used to it after a while.
My first Resident Evil experience was the RE2 remake and it took a while to get used to the type of game RE2R was but once I understand the gameplay loop I fell in love with it, sense playing RE2R I've played a lot of RE games and Resident evil has quickly become one of my favorite game franchises.
Having marathoned them all a few years ago, I would absolutely reccomend jumping to VII and VIII from here especially as VII has been upgraded to current gen, so is a natural jumping point from here (especially as it doesn't really require prior knowledge of the plot up to that point) Of course for a complete change of gameplay, could be worth checking our the RE1MAKE in between as many also hold that as the best despite it's age. After seeing how much you loved 2 & 4 I'm so excited to see your thoughts on 7. In many ways it saved the franchise.
I did the same thing. Played RE4 remake and HAD to play RE2R &RE3R immediately back to back. But boy let me tell you, you HAVE to play 7 & 8 now!! It will really solidify your love for the franchise. I am forever a fan. 5 and 6 and the revelations were a straight up waste of money for me but I still love this franchise. I really enjoyed 7 and Village was so fun for me that I actually platinummed it (usually never go for those) and I'm on my 7th playthrough. I'm mind blown that you made such a great video and don't know where to go now bro 7 and 8 are waiting for you like presents under a Christmas tree! What I wouldn't give to play those two for the first time again😢 Alan Wake 2 just didn't fill that RE void for me whatsoever.
Its interesting to see someones perspective playi g the new games and not the original/better versions. Original re2 has a way better story A/B than the remakes, its only in re2r because og 2 had it. The A/B scenarios are way different in it. 3 remake was heavily cut back compaired to the original 3, lacking locations, and also plot points/actions. Re4 is phenomenal, its genuinely amazing, and re4r is also really good, i highly suggest the pc version with the re4hd mod that capcom even let greenlight
The early 2000s RE1 Remake is a must-play. Now that it's been remastered a couple of times and brought up to modern console specs, it doesn't feel like an old game. It's also a great way to get further acquainted with the lore as you see the roots for the franchise, and you get to learn more about Wesker (who'se a bigger player in RE:CV and 5) in the process.
My first experience with RE was watching my husband play the old versions on my PS3. I instantly fell in love with the lore, the settings, and the characters. It’s so campy, I just love all the dialogue. 😂 However, I never could play them myself because I could not put up with the slowness and inverted controls. So when these remakes came out, I was more than happy to take the reins and play the series myself. I was so relieved they kept the difficulty and the lack of handholding of the originals. You get to experience the atmosphere so much better when there are no stupid icons all over your screen telling you where to go and what to do. Leon Kennedy is one of my favorite video game protagonists of all time now.
I'm also new to this franchise, but I started with 4 remake and then jumped to 2 thinking it'd be a breeze... It was scarier than anything I'd ever imagined haha. But I have been enjoying the ride so far and plan to consume everything that is Resident Evil. Side note. Very good video and I agree with many of the things you said.
I think you can hop on current versions of RE5 and 6. No need to wait for a remake. It’s really a lesser version of the remakes but still hold a bit. Now, I strongly STRONGLY encourage you to play the originals (maybe the RE1 remake). It’s a completely different kind of monsters on itself. But it has it charm and are worth playing
Great video, nice to hear a fresh perspective on these games. If you want a suggestion on what to play next i suggest trying RE 7 and RE village as a duo and its story DLCs for something more in line with the remakes style. RE 5 and RE 6 are so different in tone you might get whiplash but i still recommend them for the goofy RE moments and memes. RE 1 2002 is amazing but incredibly dated. If you have patience for a hood classic though its nice to pay tribute to the grandaddy of the survival horror genre
Aside from watching Lore videos on UA-cam, I had no experience with the Resident Evil Franchise. Even so when I played Resident Evil 4 in February, it quickly became one of my favorite games of all time, despite being “outdated.” Haven’t gotten around to playing the other games becuase I want to buy them Physically but I definitely will at some point in the future.
I think you should play 5 and 6, and form your own opinion. I didn't grow up with the tank controls era, but I can tell you RE0 and RE1R are still fun. The whole franchise is fun, with good lore. For RE2R, the devs said they didn't plan on making the "B Scenarios". So they lazily put them together for the disappointed fans. There was actual variety in the original. "These are Remakes so mostly all the kinks have been worked out." That's funny cause RE3R was outsourced and rushed. RE4R is a solid game. BUT it is definitely not a replacement for the original, which is still very playable. Oh, and everyone Loves Ashley alright! :)
Your name is perfect for it haha, Re1 remake holds up pretty well. Tank controls are tank controls so it’s something new players definitely don’t like and discourage them from playing the old ones. But RE1make is a great experience, definitely reccomend. Claire and Leon had more interactions in the original. There was even a system where if you take a weapon as Leon, it won’t be available as Claire. Re3 was unfortunately a rushed mess by a different team. A lot of the content was cut from the game sadly. The removal of gore was pretty weird as well. A 5 hour game for 60 bucks was pretty wild so it got a lot of negative reviews for it. Re4 remake was quite the anticipated game for me. Was very pleased with it. As for Krauser they did a better job with his background with voice lines and notes left behind. The original just assumed you played the game that featured him previously. Sad that you didn’t like Ashley, she’s a much better character than the original. Anyways sorry for wall of text, re4 (2005) is a nice goofy experience. If you ever do re5, please just consider it as a B rated corny action movie. It has an amazing score and a fun melee system. Re6 is just as corny but to me, I think it was enjoyable as well. Leon being my fav character, his campaign was disappointing to me because it was outshined by his coop partner Helena. Chris Campaign had a better story, following chris overcoming his ptsd by continuing to chase the cause of his ptsd the whole campaign haha. His partner piers is a cool guy that helps him return to his legendary status. Jake and Sherry have a pretty cool story too. Both characters are fun and the story of a douchey guy turned less douchey guy is cliche and corny but I’m into it. As for Ada, it’s just her going through all the areas you’ve been to and helping the other campaign characters. All the stories tie in together so you might be annoyed with reusing maps and all that. Also re6 mercenaries best mercenaries. Re7/8 are great, the dlc for 7 is pretty cool. Ethan is a goofy character, definitely in my top 5.
It’s always great to see new people getting into these games. I absolutely think you should at least try the original versions of the remakes you played. While 2 and 3 especially are outdated, if you can stick with them and get used to the controls, I think you’ll have a great experience. I still prefer the OG RE2 to the remake, I think the slower pace and phenomenal soundtrack, combined with the ambient sounds of the city and general art style come together to build tension and atmosphere in a “less is more” kind of way than the 2019 version, which is still amazing in its own right. Also this has to be said, the story is told in a more coherent and understandable way that makes sense, Claire and Leon interact a bit more in the A scenario, and the B scenario actually feels like you’re playing from the other perspective. I’d say the original RE3 is a must, just to experience all the stuff they removed in the remake. Nemesis is actually a threat in that version, and the downtown section of the city is way longer and rewarding to slowly progress through.
I played some of the action RE games when i was younger but it wasnt until Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 2 that i got hooked and played every main entry in the series. I really think youll like the rest of the series.
I thin it’s so interesting you mentioned the third person shooter controls, because it was the original Resident evil 4 that standardized them in the first place
I would recommend going back to some of the earlier games. Like RE Remake or Code Veronica. Just yesterday, I finally installed a PS2 emulator on my PC and am running RE Outbreak on it. I’ve been meaning to get through the newer ones…i’m awful at completely video games
my first experience with an re game was re4 vr, although many people said that game came with some issues i had an absolute BLAST playing it, and i’ve picked up re7 and re8 since. personally, i think u can play those 2 without relying on any of the games coming before it but it’s ultimately up to u
Ashley's personality in the remake is definitely better than the OG. But when it comes to protecting her, the OG is wayyyyyy better. I never understood the complaints about OG Ashley. You could always tell her to wait/hide and keep her away from battles. The remake dropped the ball in that aspect and can be very frustrating.
Welcome to the fandom ☺️ i would absolutely recommend you to play RE 1 Remake first and if you can go with the OG 2,3 that would be great since you already know the lore about them, then Code veronica
The blue herb doesn't just cure poisoning. It also temporarily increases your damage resistance 👀👀👀
The re franchise my bro is full of great lore, you’ll love it
I actually assumed that you already played them 😂 I thought that the “Thrifty Typewriter” name was inspired by the typewriter save system that the RE games have
I thought the same thing
Hmm, so just because his name had 'typewriter' in it, you assumed he played a game because it had a typewriter? What kind of connection is that?

@@best_of_eliwhat other franchise has a typewriter in it? Especially the original RE trilogy. The typewriter is very pronounced. It’s not that much of a stretch to make that connection.
Mixing Red and Blue herbs create a defensive buff that allows you to take decreased damage and be immune to poison for the duration of the little timer. Super useful in the sewers and through heavy infested areas
this, blue herb becomes clutch in the higher difficulties
I'd say play as many games in the main series as you can. This is the main series so far:
1. Resident Evil (1996)
2. Resident Evil 2 (1998)
3. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999)
4. Resident Evil - Code: Veronica (2000)
5. Resident Evil Remake (2002)
6. Resident Evil Zero (2002)
7. Resident Evil 4 (2005)
8. Resident Evil 5 (2009)
9. Resident Evil: Revelations (2012)
10. Resident Evil 6 (2012)
11. Resident Evil: Revelations 2 (2015)
12. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017)
13. Resident Evil 2 Remake (2019)
14. Resident Evil 3 Remake (2020)
15. Resident Evil Village (2021)
16. Resident Evil 4 Remake (2023)
i think 2,3 and 4 remakes, biohazard and village is a great starting point. (in that order)

Ah man I was about to write a heartfelt thank you message too… 😂
The 2002 Resident Evil remake is not only the best of the franchise in my opinion but tied with Silent Hill 2 as the single greatest survival horror video game ever made. As such, I would absolutely recommend going back and playing it, along with the PS1 trilogy, Code Veronica, Zero, etc. Resident Evil is my favorite video game franchise of all time, old and new games alike, so it's always exciting when people first start getting into it.
Outbreak is great too!
@@JaiProdz Those games never really clicked with me since I wasn't able to experience them online as intended. Outbreak on single player is honestly really boring in my opinion. I'd like to see remakes of those titles that actually provide proper online support.
@@joshuanelson6795 i played it in turns with my siblings so maybe that's why I enjoyed them more than you did. I completely understand!
@@JaiProdz I'm sure they're a lot of fun when playing with other people, I've just unfortunately never had that experience.
@@Redog68 for you maybe, some people like the actiony heroines like Leon and Chris. everybody has preferences
@@Zeroshiki well i hope re9 brings back the originals along with a new protagonist.
Everything is a lesson! An even bigger opportunity is right around the corner!
@@thethriftytypewriter Thank you. On the funny side note; by looking at your channel name I figured you're a RE fan cause the typewriter was a big deal in earlier games, didn't know you were new to the series. @@AnxMa I’m getting that a lot 😂 if only someone had asked if my channel was inspired by Resident Evil I would’ve learned about it sooner!
I'm an OG fan of RE series. My first one was Resident Evil 3 Nemesis, when I was 4 years old, and it's still my favorite game of all time.
So listen closely
You should also try Resident Evil Remake. It's the best game in the series, the atmosphere and graphics still hold up today even after close to 20 years.
OG RE2 and RE3 is a must.
I only started getting into RE around 3 years ago. Absolutely been loving my time with the franchise thus far, and I’m glad you like it so far too!
Same here. Started with RE7 and was impressed. Next tried Village and was disappointed. Still hadn't really seen what all the hype was about...until I played RE2 remake. The RE2 and RE4 remakes are both masterpieces in my book.
I gasped out loud when I saw this! The RE franchise has some of my favorite games and stories, I can’t wait to see your opinions.
There is no way in hell that Resident Evil 1 Remake is "outdated" . If it was it wouldn't have been remastered in 2015.
Yes. It. Is. Outdated. Sorry.
Technology develops exponentially. It has been a decade since 2015, buddy. 9 years passing in any realm of technology means outdated.. objectively. Hence why there has been 2 new generations of consoles since then.
While I suppose it's good that these remakes exist for new fans who "couldn't possibly play something with ugly graphics", part of me
also wonders what Capcom could achieve if they spent their resources on developing something new and fresh.
I recommend playing the OG version of RE2 for the following reasons:
I started playing RE games this january for the first time. I did Zero, RE1, REmake2, REmake3, CVX and some games on UA-cam. Great Lore
This is the game series that has kept me going. If I've had a bad day I can always turn one of these games on and forget about it for a few hours. My recommendation on what to play next, play RE5 it's seriously a good game. You should play through it couch co-op style with a friend. There's not much horror at all it but it's very fun.
This title speaks to me so much because I wasn't even alive for the release of OG RE2 but once I played the remake I thought "Just like I remember"
4 was a different story as I was around to see and hear it. Playing it for the first time truly felt like a return to my first experience with RE.
So glad you to see video. One of the best things to come out the horror-action media imo.
I also recommend playing the remake of part one, it’s old but learning the old controls isn’t that bad
As a resident evil fan I recommend you move to resident evil 7 then 8, rather than delving into the older games with less modern control schemes although in the end it is up to you and I believe you will have a good experience no matter what game you move on to
Really bro?!? you started with 7 didnt you its like starting watching Walking dead from spinoffs lol
nothing can beat the OG Trilogy lore / story of
@@Blade_runner-dh4dw I know but 7 has a fairly disconnected story from the rest of the series you don’t really need to know a whole lot about the series to enjoy it.
Seeing your love for the series reminds me of myself when I first started playing the remakes
Only one right choice now play Re7 I assure you, you will be a big a fan 😂
"Spend 5 dollars to unlock unlimited ammo." **rolls up a newspaper** NO! BAD! YOU EARN IT!
*Ouch Ouch* okay I’m sorry I’m just bad at the game! 😂
Re5 is important for the lore
While these 3 are considered "remakes," the developers cut a lot of content. From 2 and 3, the amazing zapping system from 2 and alot of different locations from 3. The only true remake is the Remake of the first one
Re6 is over the top and appropriately unique in the franchise. I recommend an open mind when playing that game because at the end of the day, it is special and does things few mainstream third person shooter even dare to do.
Re6 and Re5 represent the action coop era of Re that show promise and offer the value they offer.
Those games that you mentioned towards the end took inspiration from the original Resident Evil 4. That’s that impact that game had.

Excelllent video once again Thrifty, I'm glad you're enjoying the RE series, cannot wait to see more, mwah.
It will allow you to feel how the original games felt while still being modern enough and well directed enough to help it flow with the other remakes.
highly recommend RE 7 next, its a pretty self contained story, and pretty funny/terrifying, very unique
If only I didn’t have to see spider lady in a diaper id play it again now
They really are all fantastic, I would recommend going back and playing Resident Evil 5. You might be surprised at how good it is, albeit a bit different than traditional Resident Evil. They're all worth playing.
From my information on my research, the canon resident evil two remake ending. I believe it is Leon scenario A and Claire scenario B.

I’ve never played this series but I remember my dad saying how the original on ps1 was terrifying at the time
I wish I could play re2remake for the first time again. In my 37 years on earth that was the most greatest anxiety filled experience I ever had
Haven’t checked out 7 or 8 yet! Should I play those next or play some different ones first?
@@thethriftytypewriter I would play some more Resident Evil games to get more of a feel of the franchise before jumping into 7 and 8

@thethriftytypewriter
As a long time player of the RE series, I would rank re5 over re3 (personal opinion), re6 is hit and miss, but it's not all bad.
RE6 is awesome and fun. Best combat system in the entire franchise
I’ve also played the RE games for first time I’ve finished 1 and 2 which was a masterpiece
I’m onto 3 now so I can’t wait for this vid
"Outdated" games isnt a real thing
I definitely loved watching you talk about the games, i also strongly recommend you do go and play the remaster of RE1, RE5 and ect.
I liked playing part 5 I played it through plenty times in the day can’t wait for the remake
I remember when my mom brought me resident evil 3 in 2000 first re game from that moment I was in love with franchise.
Couple of notes:
RE2 duel storylines makes more sense in the OG game where as the remake is more abridged versions of the character alternate story
RE3 OG is a much better experience in my opinion with more replayability and Nemesis is much better in that game tbh (i like RE3R btw)
Please play RE1 Remake, don't be spooked by the fixed camera, from my experience you get used to it after a while.
My first Resident Evil experience was the RE2 remake and it took a while to get used to the type of game RE2R was but once I understand the gameplay loop I fell in love with it, sense playing RE2R I've played a lot of RE games and Resident evil has quickly become one of my favorite game franchises.
my favourite franchise and my favourite youtuber. blessed
Having marathoned them all a few years ago, I would absolutely reccomend jumping to VII and VIII from here especially as VII has been upgraded to current gen, so is a natural jumping point from here (especially as it doesn't really require prior knowledge of the plot up to that point)
Of course for a complete change of gameplay, could be worth checking our the RE1MAKE in between as many also hold that as the best despite it's age.
After seeing how much you loved 2 & 4 I'm so excited to see your thoughts on 7. In many ways it saved the franchise.
I dont know why i love it that much when a movie guy goes for games for the first time, but i do. XD
It’s older but Code Veronica is arguably worth your time.
When Jill wakes up in the hospital that’s taking place after RE2 where Leon, Claire, and Sherry escaped the city
You're gonna be really excited once you play the good games
Bro really thought hating Ashley would be controversial lol
my first experience with an re game was re4 vr, although many people said that game came with some issues i had an absolute BLAST playing it, and i’ve picked up re7 and re8 since. personally, i think u can play those 2 without relying on any of the games coming before it but it’s ultimately up to u
Dude same! I played 2 and 3 remake 2 months ago. I brought 4 but haven’t played because I’m currently playing through tears of the kingdom!
"Now here's where I know I'm gonna lose some people" Procceds to gain every RE Fan's respect
