@@smoothoperator7023 I'm going from personal experience and that of my friends as well. I have no problems with Hyundai as basic transportation. Their Sonata vehicle is excellent and comparable to a Toyota Camry. But when it comes to luxury..there are far better choices out there in my opinion. That being said..I'm thrilled you are happy with your Equus and wish you continued success.
Hyundai is now to Toyota as Toyota is to all the German sedans. When the Lexus ls 400 hit the market, they offered a 4.0 litre 32 valve v8. BMW only offered a straight 6 and Audi a 5 cylinder. Mercedes was the only German luxury car make that offered a v8 motor, but it was nowhere refined as the Lexus Lexus had raised the bar that the Germans had to follow. Hyundai is doing the same just by them having the best customer service and warranty in the business. I'll be getting mine soon.

@@Watcher3223 Exactly. Lexus has a proven track record for building quality vehicles with the highest resale value. Personally..I'll stick with my MB S Class simply because it has the highest crash survival rating and provides extreme levels of comfort.
4600 pounds, that is what the massive 1972 Oldsmobile 98 (its equivalent back then) weighed. But that car had thick steel, a separate steel frame, a 455 cu in Rocket V8, a heavy TH400 transmission, and steel (not plastic) bumpers. It was also more than 1 1/2 feet longer.
Absolutely stunning car!!! Quite prestigious given the fact that this is a bargain S-Class, 7 Series and A8. Plus there's not a Cadillac, Lincoln, Chrysler or Buick that competes with the Equus, which is rather disappointing considering how well established these brands are........
there are no Hyundai badges on my Genesis sedan either. For the Genesis, its an option, for the Equus, its probably standard equipment. That being said, Hyundai is a very different brand from what it was 10 years ago.
I see, I think I miss understood you than. In any case I agree with you and Cooley they should have a created a separate luxury brand. Wouldnt be shocked if they did in the near future
I was thinking the same. People like that have never left the US and so they have no idea what cheap vehicles are made under BMW and Mercedes badges in other countries.
No that wasn't my point. My point was if hyundai wants to get serious in a luxury market they need to have some kind of upmarket line of premium luxury sedans and CUV's much in the way Lexus is to toyota, Infiniti is to Nissan, Acura is to Honda, etc. I know they came a long way and the cars Kia and Hyundai are making have been massive improvements but my point was one car like this wont really draw in a huge market in the way something like a BMW or Infiniti would.
BMW makes 1 series, X1, and Mini. Mercedes makes A/B Class and Smart Car. Toyota makes Lexus, and so on. Just because there isn't a separate brand name for the luxury line, it does not mean the car isn't good.
It's such a nice car, but the styling just doesn't set itself apart much. Like Cooley said, it would be easy to get lost in a crowd. But it looks like a great value.
Unless someone really likes the style of this vehicle, I don't see why anyone would buy it. I've seen very few on the road as well. My biggest concern is the fact that I'm going to be paying at least 70k for a Hyundai. Why? I'd rather take that money, and get a top of the line Mercedes-Benz E class or top of the line Lexus GS. Generally, people won't pay that much for a car that's not in a luxury division. It's the way it is. I like the Genesis, I think it's a great car and it's being has a purpose (Like the Toyota Avalon, Nissan Maxima, etc.) Even against the Genesis, I would still take the Avalon any given day. If you're leasing, maintanence is not the issue. I'm strictly speaking on the price tag. 70k for a Hyundai, NO!
***** But Lexus hit the ball out of the park with the first model. Hyundai puts these flawed cars out there and only improve them after they get negative feedback.
#1 reason is cost. Upfront and maintenance. Saving tons of money on insurance, routine maintenance and the warranty is best in the business. Its a quality car for a lot less money.
They do win in reliability by a mile, and for the price in quality, taking that its a 7 series, competitor but cost the same as a 3 series fully loaded, and don´t take me wrong i do prefer a good Audi A6 over this for the money, but if i needed a huge backseat (for lets say work) i would be willing to have a U$68.000,00 car over a U$120.000,00 plus car like the A8 , S class, or 7 series.
The thing is, most people won't be able to tell the difference. Sad, but true. Therefore many people believe the Equus to be on the same quality level as the Germans and Lexus, at a fraction of the price, even compared to Lexus.
Hyundai's challenge is that even if it makes cars of the same quality as others, people will often prefer other brands due to prestige. The solution is to not just match the quality of competitors -- to take market share, Hyundai would have to make cars that clearly exceed Mercedes and BMW in quality and reliability. Competition forces all brands to improve, so I say good luck to Hyundai!
i keep reading the comments on this video and Hyundai has fixed and added so many features and did them right and people bitch and say they wouldn't buy it or its crap but you guys are just mad because Hyundai is doing it right and doing it better in some ways. when Hyundai gets all wheel drive and great handling BMW and all of those companies are gonna really have to watch out.

Um no. Go sit in a Bimmer, Mercedes or an Audi and just sit there. Look and touch and feel the different materials. Then go get in a Kia or Hyundai and do the same. The differences are significant.
Thats because they are two different car companies. Infiniti doesn't make a car like a Nissan Sentra. Nissan does, Nissan is the mainstream market player, and Infiniti is their upper level SECONDARY company that makes more premium cars to appeal to a more premium audience. Hyundai makes Accents, and sonatas, and Elantras, and then they make only one car like this still called a Hyundai? all it does is create an identity crisis. same with the Kia Cadenza, ironically part of hyundai's operation.
The difference is Hyundai is just learning how to build quality products. While germans hv been doing it for decades. IMHO, u get what u pay for in the car business. If u can bare telling someone u spent 70k on a Korean car, instead of German one. Then more power to u.
I'm sure it's a good car, maybe even a great car but the price point for the brand is not going to work unless they can get by selling a very very limited number. It also doesn't make much sense to load up the back seat like it's an S class because S class owners might have hired drivers. Equus owners...not so much.
Hyundai needs to create a new brand for its luxury cars. My suggestion: call the BRAND Genesis and then rename this car something like G500L or something else. I agree that the name "Hyundai" automatically makes adds great depreciation. I bet trade-in/resale value is horrible on this car. I'd hate to see how upside down you'd be after just 3 years of ownership.
Of course with that kind of mentality things will never change, and people will keep paying 30k more for the same type of car... Hyundai offers here a luxury sedan that only gets (very) positive reviews, but because of the badge, it's automatically a shitty car... That's just sad.
70k, don't see spending that on a Hyundai!? There are a lot of options in that category. Maybe I'm just being bias but I just don't see 70k for a Hyundai.
See here's the problem with this car... despite it's best efforts.. its still a Hyundai. and Hyundai is still a korean car company, manufacturing things like an accent and Elantra, and then this. there is no dedicated luxury brand, and in this class the badge as well as quality matters. there is no BMW 7 series made under the same company that makes an Elantra. That, and you can tell they knew this when they designed this car, as they didn't even put a Hyundai badge proudly on the front.
Actually The base model LS (RWD) is $72,140. A mere $3,200 more than this model of Hyundai. Considering Hyundai's past reputation; I'll pick Toyota reliability miles over a Hyundai. I've known several owners of Hyundai who simply state: "Sure it has a 10 year warranty; but who wants to sit in a Hyundai garage every other weekend getting it repaired."
John Sneddon I always laugh when people say "Toyotas reliability." Their reliability is horrible, my dad works at a Toyota dealerships parts department, and he has said in the 2 years he has worked there there has been at least 2 Tacoma's or Sequoia's per WEEK getting new frames. Not to mention the dealership got a 2014 brand new Avalon that wouldn't pass inspection. I'll stick with Chevy.
i love Asian cars and own them and i'm all for what Hyundai and Kia is doing but im SAYING if they want to really COMPETE in a luxury segment they need a mainstream automaker, and then a separate counterpart! the difference w/ Lexus is that it STARTED as a DEDICATED luxury brand and line of cars from toyota, and they started off right. hyundai has a shakey past, they dont have a dedicated luxury market, therefore this car is kind of mismatched in their lineup. that was my point.
Listen buddy if there wasn't an issue in the first place i wouldn't have a reply to me. i love Asian cars and i'm all for what Hyundai and Kia is doing but im SAYING if they want to really COMPETE in a luxury segment they need a mainstream automaker, and then a separate counterpart! they own Kia which makes much more premium cars already that are BASED on their hyundai counterparts but are a little nicer to look at, drive and be in. why dont they use kia as their premium luxury market then.
That's cnets niche, I like that there is someone who actually reviews the cars in that way. I'll go to car n driver for the performance review then here for the tech review
Hyundai likes to confuse people. From the front. "Hey nice Rolls Royce" From the back "Hey nice Hyundai" After looking both sides "Wtf are you driving"
Maybe it's just me, but this car looks so shiny and cheap.. Although they have the 10yr/100,000 mile warranty, my red flag goes up on the longevity afterwards.... I'll take either a Lexus or Benz any day over this. Just my opinion.
The 100,000 mile warranty is only for the power train. You dont need that on a LEXUS BMW. Or MERCEDES. They knob just work better. Has car and driver. Edmonds Consumer reports. JD POWERS. Or any of the top reviewers ever made a statement that Hyundai is a good or better than the rest. I would trust them. Over Hyundai. Maybe some day. Right now. All I see is a POLISHED TURD.
well good for you. in the 90's Hyundai built crap. and people lost a lot of money. in the 2000's Hyundai built a better cheap car for a cheap price. not so bad. in 2011HYundai builds nicer looking cheap cars for a lot more money. not good. So Hyundai makes the cars look more expensive but there are still cheap cars. and they don't have the same resale value that's my truth. Hyundai sucks. will never own one again. lol have a great day

On the Equus forums & FB pages, you find owners regretting ever purchasing this lemon when their air suspensions fail with vehicles that barely have 75k miles on them, and their repair bill averages $1500.00 PER WHEEL for ORIGINAL Hyundai air suspension parts (not talking about the cheap Chinese ones that break down even faster but that most people buy because they can't afford the original parts). Then you have the issue of the Pre-Collision and other safety systems not working. Again, on Equus forums & FB pages you have owners complaining how their Equus didn't warn them of an impending crash, didn't take evasive maneuvers as Hyundai says it will, and even air bags that didn't deploy. Aside from those serious issues that could kill you..you have seats that hurt your back after 10 minutes of sitting. Cheap and fake looking leather, wood applique, and plastic controls. And a ride that felt nervous and jittery..instead of smooth and luxurious as advertised. Save your money and buy something that is really luxurious and not this POS. It's no wonder Hyundai killed it. Yeah that's true. Plenty of people are not particular about the motoring. Whereas me I am nutty with it. I jump in a car and start tapping surface (to find hard plastics), touching surfaces, feeling how a button depresses, finding places where a manufacturer went that extra step to make driving their a car a pleasurable and emotive experience, and in most cases wont' be noticed by others.

Nightbird Damn, u really must have got a lemon, or are u going by what you read on forums? I bought a '14 Equus in '16 with 22K mi & have had no problems other than minor issues any car would have. I read the forums too & am aware of air bags that could be faulty just as Mercedes have air bag problems. I can only go by what i've experienced & that its held up well.
I'll be getting mine soon.
would love to see Hyundai have its own luxury division, a large suv(awesome), a 2 door equus cabriolet, and the equus 4 door sedan, I think it would work out for hyundai

4600 pounds, that is what the massive 1972 Oldsmobile 98 (its equivalent back then) weighed. But that car had thick steel, a separate steel frame, a 455 cu in Rocket V8, a heavy TH400 transmission, and steel (not plastic) bumpers. It was also more than 1 1/2 feet longer.

wow with that price and all that options..mann m loving it.
nice for a hyundai, thanks cooley I hope you never retire
An ideal car if you want to drive a luxurious car in a bad neighborhood. Thieves won't even take a second look
in 10 years all cars will basically DO and LOOK the same. The only difference will be the badge
Nice and very comfortable car but no panaramic sunroof?
Cooley is back yayyyy!!
Kurt you are completely right
Awesome car
Absolutely stunning car!!! Quite prestigious given the fact that this is a bargain S-Class, 7 Series and A8. Plus there's not a Cadillac, Lincoln, Chrysler or Buick that competes with the Equus, which is rather disappointing considering how well established these brands are........
there are no Hyundai badges on my Genesis sedan either. For the Genesis, its an option, for the Equus, its probably standard equipment. That being said, Hyundai is a very different brand from what it was 10 years ago.
This will be a great second hand car. Simple technology, decent luxury, awfu re-sale value.
Wtf 68,000 for all that tech, compared to the a8, 7 series, and the LS, that's a bargain
This is a nice car. Definitely not a German car killer but it’s nice.
The Korean 2014 equus has new headlights, where have they gone on the US model??
This is the best value for money car under 100k it seems.
Do anybody have there’s still or recommend 2012+? Thinking about getting one
It's such a nice car, but the styling just doesn't set itself apart much. Like Cooley said, it would be easy to get lost in a crowd. But it looks like a great value.
It seems everyone in the comments drives a 760i, an S550, or an A8.
I like the Genesis, I think it's a great car and it's being has a purpose (Like the Toyota Avalon, Nissan Maxima, etc.)
Even against the Genesis, I would still take the Avalon any given day.
If you're leasing, maintanence is not the issue. I'm strictly speaking on the price tag. 70k for a Hyundai, NO!
***** good point
***** But Lexus hit the ball out of the park with the first model. Hyundai puts these flawed cars out there and only improve them after they get negative feedback.
The dealers at my location are selling the top of the line Equus for $53,000, not bad imo.
I am deciding between the 2015 Kia K900 VIP Plus and the Hyundai Equus Ultimate. Any thoughts???
Hyundai Equus Ultimate
The thing is, most people won't be able to tell the difference. Sad, but true. Therefore many people believe the Equus to be on the same quality level as the Germans and Lexus, at a fraction of the price, even compared to Lexus.
Asian cars are the future, you will see. A decade ago everyone laughed at Lexus but now look at it
Hyundai's challenge is that even if it makes cars of the same quality as others, people will often prefer other brands due to prestige.
Thank you!
Is actually amazing.

Um no. Go sit in a Bimmer, Mercedes or an Audi and just sit there. Look and touch and feel the different materials. Then go get in a Kia or Hyundai and do the same. The differences are significant.
Amazing car, i wish i could buy it.
Thats because they are two different car companies. Infiniti doesn't make a car like a Nissan Sentra. Nissan does, Nissan is the mainstream market player, and Infiniti is their upper level SECONDARY company that makes more premium cars to appeal to a more premium audience. Hyundai makes Accents, and sonatas, and Elantras, and then they make only one car like this still called a Hyundai? all it does is create an identity crisis. same with the Kia Cadenza, ironically part of hyundai's operation.
its time for hyundai to introduce a brand like lexus which they can use for their more expensive cars
The difference is Hyundai is just learning how to build quality products. While germans hv been doing it for decades. IMHO, u get what u pay for in the car business. If u can bare telling someone u spent 70k on a Korean car, instead of German one. Then more power to u.
Don't need to, watch the video and you can see.
yeah but we all know this ones not Hubbard so what do you do about the smell
Interior looks just like the Kia cadenza
I'm sure it's a good car, maybe even a great car but the price point for the brand is not going to work unless they can get by selling a very very limited number.
It also doesn't make much sense to load up the back seat like it's an S class because S class owners might have hired drivers. Equus owners...not so much.
Damn Right!!
Doesn't rain leak through a ceiling in this car?
Of course with that kind of mentality things will never change, and people will keep paying 30k more for the same type of car...
Hyundai offers here a luxury sedan that only gets (very) positive reviews, but because of the badge, it's automatically a shitty car... That's just sad.
I will gladly take this over a Cadi, a German, or a even a Maybach. Unfortunately, it snows where I live. So RWD is fun, but impractical.
Would you rather be driving or hire a driver and you kick back and relax.
For $68,920, I think I'll stick with either the E-class mercedes or the Lexus LS.
Go with Lexus as e-class are boring and kinda crappy for it's price
*****
***** you can't buy an LS with as many features as this car for 60000. I know, my step dad just bought a top of the line LS for close to 90000...
What do you drive Mr. Cooley?!
Car for people made lot of money, but don't want let your neighbors to know.
i love Asian cars and own them and i'm all for what Hyundai and Kia is doing but im SAYING if they want to really COMPETE in a luxury segment they need a mainstream automaker, and then a separate counterpart! the difference w/ Lexus is that it STARTED as a DEDICATED luxury brand and line of cars from toyota, and they started off right. hyundai has a shakey past, they dont have a dedicated luxury market, therefore this car is kind of mismatched in their lineup. that was my point.
TheK24Kyle fast forward 4 years later they listened to you bro and now they have th luxury Genesis Line
