Just stumbled on to you reading comments on Dave Lee’s podcast . Another case of my wild curiosity paying off . Probably your cool icon had a bit to blame but either way nice to meet another truth warrior 🙏
Listening to you explain to us on how to argue a point has really made a difference in my thinking. I never use ad homonyms anymore. The arguments are clearer and I also have more time to think. I never attack the crooked person, I attack the crooked argument. Keep the videos coming. :)
@adithmart: Exactly! Even if you despise *how* a person argues, it's still better to argue the point. Later and if you're friendlier with them you can always teach them too. If people learn how to argue more effectively they're not only better at arguing but it's less stressful too because you're not fighting over stuff you can't fix (personal attacks) and which leave everyone feeling awful. There are rare exceptions to this, as when someone isn't being intellectually honest, but even that is a point you can raise as a merit-based argument. So, if someone is denying evidence, you can point that out (and they will understand that they're being dishonest on their own). Or, you can say, 'It's intellectually dishonest to ignore this baseline evidence which completely undermines your premise' or something along those lines. ;)
I very much enjoy your philosophical/sociological/scientific themed vlogs. Every vlog you narrate comes off as very practiced (I'm not doubting your ad-lib skills) and delivers well. Keep making these!
@Connybob87: Thanks much! I don't rehearse these but for points to hit...and I connect the points as I progress through my expository speech. It's a type of ad-libbing or impromptu speech I enjoy...much for the same reason I enjoy improv comedy. Thanks for watching!
A lot of good points and still so many things to discover and prove. By the way, you can also smell wind when you break it ;). Good topic bro. Ride safe!
@Vac0002: That's true. Farts can be smelled because they're atomized feces. :D GROSS. There are other things we can't see which we can prove as well by indirect effect, e.g., radiation.
@Richard Hughes: Well thank you! Now that I am back in my groove and not doing zillions of bike tests or comms-testing I can definitely do many more of these. These topics interest me a lot and I've studied them at length. Hopefully this one isn't too circuitous in its delivery. ;)
This video earned you my sub. I am finally getting around to taking the motorcycle safety class and I am gathering the knowledge I will need to ride safely. Knowing that you don't seem to be an idiot is definitely a bonus. I will need to watch more of your videos to test this theory though.
Humility is for peasants... I am looking forward to some more great videos. I am looking for some motorcycle maintenance videos so I can do as much work on mine when I eventually get one. It is better to have more knowledge than less.
Today I learned there's a growing movement of people who believe the earth is flat. This vlog came at a good time. Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity!
hold on a second, that's a joke right?? you can climb to the top of a high-ish mountain anywhere (I don't really know the height required but wever) and you can OBSERVE the CURVATURE of the earth yourself. WTF with people?? Also, high-altitude pilots take pretty pictures of said curvature along with astronauts that also take pictures of a "round" structure...aka the earth.
Vlad Apostol Agreed. It's hard to fathom how anyone could be a flat-Earther...yet they're out there. It's a failure to either understand or accept the overwhelming evidence, and this happens with other fields too where there's massive evidence for a scientific consensus.
@Skunk72: Thanks! I appreciate the feedback, and the thinkalicious vlogs are fun. These are topics that interest me a lot. The area was Bouquet/Elizabeth Lake in Santa Clarita.
I was just up there on Saturday. Did San Fancisquito to Elizabeth Lake and down Lake Hughes. Fun ride. Did a little bit of a vlog and also posted over an hour of just riding with no vlogging.
@Alan: It's not baseless, but it bears proving (like any claim). Some people are denialists, like moon-hoaxers (people who deny that the moon landings are real). They're not skeptics, they're actually denying evidence. Hence, denialists. It's simple really. If one denies evidence to support a claim which has been disproved or doesn't stand to peer-review, then it's probably denialism, especially if the countervailing evidence is tremendous (like the moon landing). Some people deny evolution....and this isn't skepticism because the evidence for evolution is massive and agreed-upon by a worldwide consensus of experts who best-understand the evidence for evolution. Denying the fact of evolution is therefore denialism.
The Anti-Vaxer movements started from a peer reviewed paper published in a well known British journal. The idea of "consensus" being evidence is flawed, experts also have limitations of knowledge and there is a great deal of politics/money in science that is used to shape reality. Mostly there is a great divide in what scientists actually think about specific works/ theory's and what the public grasps or are told by partisan organization.
Unfortunately, no matter how well you present your case to the denier, they are usually too dug in to listen. Half of my family are Mercola reading nut bags and trying to talk to them is like talking to a 6 year old with his fingers in his going "la-la-la-la..." The ability to ignore sound facts in order to preserve their beliefs is a trait they all seem to have.
You really should watch some of the bigger flat earth video channels. Make sure you are wearing your helmet to protect yourself from face palm injuries and stay out of punching range of your monitor. You would be amazed at the level of denial.
@Slo Poke West: Haha, you know I am so used to this expression and I forget how obscure it is. Salt (yes, table salt) was so prized at one time that it used to be a currency, where one could actually be paid in salt. It was used for all sorts of things before refrigeration, including preserving meat. Being 'worth one's salt' is being worth one's salary.
Peer-reviewed is not the be-all and end-all, in fact it has a history of getting it wrong. The vaccine causes autism controversy itself was stemmed from such. Opposition to things like GMOs and nuclear power could be attributed in a similar way also. A far better tool to determine validity with anything is observable reality. Sure science matters and is important, but the people are not slaves to science, especially with regard to anything less than empirically testable evidence, nor should policy or legislation governing the people or the people's nation's be based on science with regard to nothing else.
@Keith Wong: Thanks man! :D You can learn gobs just from the web....as long as you're employing critical-thinking to separate fact from fiction, as I am sure you are! :D

@DustinJD: Yeah, and just because I disagree with someone on a topic or two doesn't mean much more than this. I have friends, many of whom I disagree when it comes to certain issues. That's okay though.
@Arief: Yeah, he crashed at ACH. Was there more news beyond that? I talked to him on social media a couple days ago and he was recovering from some what I thought were fairly minor injuries and road rash.
'I don't know' is a great position to have where one truly doesn't know, e.g., how did our Universe first form (before the Big Bang). Otherwise, we have evidence. ;)

Thanks Byron! I no longer vlog but hope you'r enjoying the vids. These are older now but I stand by them. :D

I'm glad we have people in the world like you spacep0d! Thanks for dropping some hardcore knowledge. :D
@BoogerCookies: Thanks man!

Finally a motorcycle vlog with an actual point, beats the hell out of the squid kids vids. Keep them coming @spacep0d :)

@Iamsobanned: Thanks man, much appreciated! Yeah I pride myself on not being an idiot, but I don't pride myself on my great humility. ;) Thanks again.
Humility is for peasants... I am looking forward to some more great videos. I am looking for some motorcycle maintenance videos so I can do as much work on mine when I eventually get one. It is better to have more knowledge than less.
Spacepod dropping knowledge,I see you man.
@13 Ceme: Thanks for stopping by!
+spacep0d no problem thanks for staying true and being yourself.
First! Ayy! Great video as always Mr Spacep0d! Hope you're doing well man!
@Woot! Thanks man. ;)
Today I learned there's a growing movement of people who believe the earth is flat. This vlog came at a good time. Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity!
@RemiSynapse: Thanks! Yeah, the flat-Earthers would be textbook denialists. :D

Probably one of the most interesting vlogs I've ever watched... Thanks for making me think.... Where were you? Looked like a nice ride.

Skunk72 Coolness!
I never heard the term denialism before. I can't lie. These people really try my patience.
it's an invented term by those pushing a line against their opponents. Often a baseless charge
@Alan: It's not baseless, but it bears proving (like any claim). Some people are denialists, like moon-hoaxers (people who deny that the moon landings are real). They're not skeptics, they're actually denying evidence. Hence, denialists.

You won't believe how much denialism I face whe I talk people about countersteering on a bike!
@TonyPayne: Yeah! I believe it. Keith Code has the no B.S. bike which can demonstrate why countersteering is the way to steer a bike! :D
***** - I showed that part to a couple of friends but they keep using body lean!
TonyPayne Well, some people think the Earth is flat too. I guess some people gotta learn the hard way! ;)
I vehemently deny that I'm skeptical.... That's my theory and I'm stickin to it. :D
Love your vlogs, man 👍🏻
Ha! Thanks man.

@Johntyson: I guess that's all part of denialism....denying evidence where you find it. And Mercola...geez what a crank!
That was fun....thanks!
@Cal Moto: Thank you for swinging by!
It's nice to get a little intellectual diversity and entertainment at the same time from a motovlog....keep it going when your in the mood:)
Cal Moto Will do!
You really should watch some of the bigger flat earth video channels. Make sure you are wearing your helmet to protect yourself from face palm injuries and stay out of punching range of your monitor. You would be amazed at the level of denial.
Hahaha, I am sure I would need forehead protection.
Good to see you still around p0d, keep up the good work.
@Apok4600: I'm still getting the vlogs out....but only just! :D
I have a question at 7:19 you said any scientist worth his or her salt...why the word salt..?......Good Video....stay safe
@Slo Poke West: Haha, you know I am so used to this expression and I forget how obscure it is. wow you can use words and talk,but.....
@BuckeyeBoyz Grewell: But....what? :D My writing is decent, so if you have any questions, comments, objections, etc., I'm game.
Mmmh sweet reasoning, feels good man.
Nice video.
@Ic3crawler: Thanks man; yes it does!
This video has too many big words for me to understand 😂.
@CruzinMoto: Sorry!
+spacep0d I was just kidding lol
***** Ah, good! Had me worried. ;)

I'm a Flatulist.
Well that stinks. :D
Are you around camp pendelton?
@Grayson Wolf: Nope!
It's pretty funny, I know who you're talking about.
@DustinJD: Yeah, and just because I disagree with someone on a topic or two doesn't mean much more than this. I have friends, many of whom I disagree when it comes to certain issues. That's okay though.
pod u know the news about kharisma rider right?
@Arief: Yeah, he crashed at ACH. Was there more news beyond that? I talked to him on social media a couple days ago and he was recovering from some what I thought were fairly minor injuries and road rash.
I don't know !!! Therefore i am. ;)
