The UK is broke. Spending needs to be cut at least 30%, time limits need to be introduced on claiming welfare. Many thousand of Civil Servant's need sacking. Public staff pensions need to be the same as the rest of us, why should we pay tax for their pensions which are much better than ours. 50% MPs need to be sacked and at least 50% of the House of Lords. All Foreign Aid needs to stop. Then cut taxes for business and encourage real inward investment which will never happen with high taxes. We will then start to get some real growth. The average Brit is over 40% poorer than the average American, the system over the last 30 years has failed, time for big changes...
Entirely agree. The amount of people working for the state and living off the state has reached ridiculous levels. I'd throw Net Zero in the bin also, and any other 'international' money pits.
We need economic growth in the North. Everyone squashing up together into the South East isn't an option. Quality of life here in Essex is dropping. Traffic jams are constant.
Labour don’t seem to have any real world capability. I can’t find anyone in the party that’s built and run a sizeable business. They all appear to have really quite under-whelming CV/backgrounds. Maybe this is why the uk economy is tanking.
1) Simplify the Tax system. 2) Inventivise work so more people go back into to work and thus broaden the tax base. 3) Encourage the Private sector to invest in the UK economy. 4) Massive devolution of fiscal powers to enable Local Government to raise their own finance without being constrained by Westminster. 5) Strategic investment in infrastructure projects across the UK.
I think that's nonsense, the UK has always been a net contributor in regards to the EU. We have a extremely specialised economy with some of the best universities in the world and the biggest financial centre in the world just about second to New York city. The reason we don't have a good trade deal is in my opinion down to incompetent politicians
Great Questions to Which the Answer is No: "Is Elvis on the Moon?" "Has a Cat Ever Won an Olympic Gold Medal?" "Has Labour Actually Gone Pro-Business?"
but yet continually invest in that area over other regions, you get what you vote for and invest in, funnily enough to disperse a nation you have to invest in the infrastructure there
You can’t change the rules and trade with people who insist you have the same rules that they have to trade with them. So the rules don’t change. That is what happened.
Think it's clear, even if brexit was a good idea in theory the UK does not have the calibre of political or civil service capable of delivering. May as well go back at this point.
what are you talking about not having an ideology that stops building. it's called the green movement. degrowth is a strong concept within this moment.
Aaaah I remember this lady she was the one on breakfast television the other day saying up was down and black was white and brexit could be good lol 😂 lost interest in this podcast as serious as soon as i recognised her!
What a massive blind spot you have, so we haven't built a reservoir in 30 years because of planning law? Or was it due to privatising something that wasn't a private asset in the first place. The problem is at least as much down to the state having no capacity which is down to your lot. So when we want to build HS2 we need to bring in a complex multi tiered management structure because we have no agency that knows how to design railway lines. See same issue when building nuclear plants. Your lot presents the state getting good at things that the state is good at.
Crap of a clickbait, LABOUR is centrists like me, I did not vote for them for other reasons. Your stupidity was not visible when the incompetent guys had the government for 14 years. Centrists want capitalism with rules, so things are the best we can do for everybody, both sides, economy and people. Where do you live after all?
Those Brexitariat who inhabit Brexitania, happily munching on their Brexitey Breakies; ask yourself if Brexit has done anything whatsoever for UK's Sovereignty, Migration, Economy; regulation, regulation nimbleness or otherwise [or indeed any other piffle-fluff.]
Like it or loath it, Brexit is irrelevant at this point. The UK needs to face up to reality - it is not wealthy enough to indulge in Net Zero, international warfare, or indeed running an international health and welfare service. Observe the borders, cut the civil service down to size, bring the taxes down, get the money out of welfare and into building projects. All hair oil and no socks as my grandfather used to say.

Absolutely agree with you. The change is coming and probably sooner than people realise, but it's going to be a very painful adjustment.

Yea tax receipts and a lot of Whitehall should be re-delegated to local government , alongside with a growth mandate.

wasnt it obvious that we would get a shit deal as we have nothing to offer the EU in this bargain, who have every interest in making an example of us.
The UK got a shit deal because you voted in a charlatan with no attention to detail, who accelerated a gun shot wedding to “get Brexit done” 😂

excellent discussion..thank you.

Yes but France is in a complicit mess in terms of public spending!
The reason Nimbys are so prolific is because these islands are so densely populated that many object to others encroaching on the space.
