This dungeon has entered the mythical rotation now in TWW. I was curious to know what she was like. See the parts I don't have access to. Very cool, this was exactly what I was looking for.
Someone from my guild back then said it would be cool in the future if Blizzard did raid instances again inside of dungeons (similar to how Molten Core was inside of another instance, or Naxxramas from Stratholme). Right near the end of Grim Batol, before the stairs going down to the final boss, there is a staircase closed off. My guildie thought it would lead to a future raid of the Lower Grim Batol. lol
I don't understand why they would build such a beautiful structure only to not use at least half of it. Hell, they could use the upper part as a quest hub/area and lead into the instance. HUGE missed opportunity.
Yeah back in VanillaI always imagined it to be a zone rather then a dungeon. Then I read about it being a future raid.. but sadly it was only a dungeon. Maybe at first they intended it to be a raid and thats why its so big?
I used to wall walk back in Vanilla to get here. Way back then, the path up to GB was littered with a lot of red dragons that could kill you in a couple of hits. They were meant to kill people before they could get too far. By the time you made it to the door, that was about as far as you could get. Before they officially opened GB it was first supposed to be a sister to IF, like a main city. It was then changed to a raid and then both eventually scrapped into a 5man. I remember being so excited for YEARS at the potential of a new main city or even a raid. I was a little disappointed in the end when it just turned into a 5man =(
Amazing video as usual! The big Dwarven fortresses like Ironforge, Grim Batol, and parts of Blackrock always intrigued me, so it's neat to see the work behind them.
This video is just made of pure awesomenite! Thank you, Hayven, for all your work. Sometimes I think that you put as much work in your videos as Blizzard in their dungeons,
Pride that's one part that makes him awesome. And I'm honestly really liking his voice. I couldn't stand at it first, but I really wanted to get into the lore, so I just watched his videos and eventually I got used to it.
Omg this is your most recent vid I'm guessing. Love a lot of your vids! A lot of this stuff I knew about (like Silvermoon in outland map) but the way you show them is ways I've never seen them before awesome stuff!
Nice to see this. Glad that some, including myself got to see this and ya, there's so much there doing nothing. Guess it's time to think of another one to have a look at. :)
Great Video like always Mr. Hayven. A part of me would like too see some WoD dungeons how they really look like, or the other big raid instance blackrock foundry.
Sad to think that blizz has all this in game and do nothing with it. They could make Grim Batol a new place to visit, just have a new entrance of some kind so you can still do the old dungeon. Would be neat to see it show up in Dragonflight, since it's linked with Deathwing and the Twilight drakes and being so close to Vermillion Redoubt with the red drakes.
One of my favorite dungeons in Cata! Anything dwarven always has an absolutely amazing design by Blizzard, if they ever go back to work on the cities apart from Stormwind and Orgrimmar, Ironforge should deffinetly be expanded to two floors as it was originally planned in Vanilla, and the design should be similar to Grim Batol's (minus the ruined bits)
It was a rumour that grim batol based on early ironforge map, blizz told in some interview that first IF was too huge and with multiple levels so testers were too confused where to go and that IF was simplified to current one.
Yep, already checked it, imho with all this bridges still looks more like Grim Batol than IF. How i love this dwarven underground architecture, its sad we got it so little, even in WOTL with its iron dwarves.
... and then they did Undercity, a true horror to navigate if you dont have flying -- everything is always right next to you, just a level above or below you, with no stairway in sight
Yeah sorry man, mistake from my side to not add that in. Behind it is a small turn, then an iron door. Behind the door is nothing. Here, I made a quick addon video so you can see it. ua-cam.com/video/-IJEQrIA_sw/v-deo.html
Dwarven architecture is the best. I love Ironforge and all of Blackrock to death. I swear between the dwarves and draenei, I almost want to play Alliance. Almost. Make cross-faction trading happen and I'll be all over that.
Really wish Grim Batol was a raid with the other parts accessible. Edit: also lorewise considering their proximity are there any passages connecting Ironforge and Grim Batol?
So...this is a completely random idea, but those pillars in that mines of moria look a like loaction? Wouldn't Dragon Soul be so much cooler if instead of madness of Deathwing, he instead comes crashing into there, and you have to fight a giant dragon in the halls of Grim Batol? I mean...that seems pretty cool to me...
he uses a map viewer combined with some in game shots so like where it's still looking at something that could be in game but while the fly happens that's him scrolling with the map viewer.
I have done Naxxramas, it was the third How it REALLY Looks I ever did. Although it has horrible frame rate, lower quality and a few early-attempt mistakes, it is there if you scroll down through my uploads.
ohh didnt knew you had alredy made it but i alredy discorvered it myself on live servers by exploding just thought it would have been good content to use if you hadent done it alredy
Nasutoceratops 1983 yea that was fun to do even found the old entrence to nax tho if you exploid under stratholm their is a big cliff i would be intrested to get up on but you need a shit load of time becaus the only way to get uo their is to get rocket boots to defect for the jump it gives

This should've been a raid.
It is. The Bastion of Twilight

The MC portal is still in BRD which is probably the second least changed classic dungeon around today

+Sulfometuron Yeah how they made it it's too linear.. I wish it was more like BRD

This place makes my dreaming everytime i go in here... my wallpaper on my PC is Grim Batol...
Wildhammer Forever!
I've been looking forward to this one for a while now. Great stuff
This video is just made of pure awesomenite! Thank you, Hayven, for all your work. Sometimes I think that you put as much work in your videos as Blizzard in their dungeons,
Gread Video again, what would we do without you and your videos, you make WoW still being great somehow.
haha I'm glad to hear you say that ^^
Bro you deserve more subs. Like more than Nobbel Belular Gaming put together.
Bellular? Yes. Nobbel? No. I agree that Hayven's videos are awesome, but Nobbel is like the coolest dude in youtube.
Nobbel has the most annoying voice in all of UA-cam, because he role-plays literally EVERYTHING he says.
Pride that's one part that makes him awesome. And I'm honestly really liking his voice. I couldn't stand at it first, but I really wanted to get into the lore, so I just watched his videos and eventually I got used to it.
another great video thumbs up for you Hayven :)
Nice final shot there.
You are extremely talented. Keep at it my friend, you'll do great things. Thank you for creating digital history books! :)
I was hoping you would do this one day I always wondered how it really looked :D.
Yes!!!!! Love your videos keep up the good work!!
thanks, I will ^^

always enjoy the music in these videos it goes so well with each one
the look at the "great hall" kinda reminds me of moria. and the light wich shines inside the mountains.
I can definitely do more Wod content. God knows Wod needs more content :)
My favorite dungeon of cataclysme !
u crazy

sounds like pirates of the carribean with a few notes missing lol
It was a rumour that grim batol based on early ironforge map, blizz told in some interview that first IF was too huge and with multiple levels so testers were too confused where to go and that IF was simplified to current one.
I explore that Ironforge in a very, very old video: ua-cam.com/video/BOTtEpXf4b0/v-deo.html

@@sikhandtakerakhuvar3372 And then they repeated it in Shadowlands. Oribos and all the covenant halls are all round with repeating doors and halls.
1:30 Behold, the great city of Dwarrow- shit, wrong universe.
was hoping to see what is behind that gated off area by the last boss
Yeah sorry man, mistake from my side to not add that in. Behind it is a small turn, then an iron door. Behind the door is nothing. Here, I made a quick addon video so you can see it. ua-cam.com/video/-IJEQrIA_sw/v-deo.html

Nice video
Cant wait for turtle wow to turn this into the new 40 man raid
Nice video! Could you do hellfire ramparts next time?
I have an idea for one: the evolution of hyjal from vanilla to BC raid to cataclysm zone
Have it planned :)
Here's hoping for a Raid to be implemented after Naxx content in Classic!
Had the vanilla devs made this it would have been much larger and have an actual dungeon crawling feel.
Really wish Grim Batol was a raid with the other parts accessible.
Edit: also lorewise considering their proximity are there any passages connecting Ironforge and Grim Batol?

tbh that would've been better than giant octo-dragon.
Yes, that would have been much cooler. Dragon's Hole was an amazing clusterfuck of lazy and bad decisions.
Well honestly the only good thing was fighting ultraxion in dragon soul.
What about the closed gate at the end of the dungeon? That's what I've always wanted to see inside!
the gate where you fight cho'gall?
The gate after Erudax (or whatever the old god-looking due is called).
Oops sorry I mixed up my dungeons I thought it was cho'gall cause that closed door is to synestra on heroic. BTW his name is erudax.
Nasutoceratops 1983 You're thinking of the raid Bastion of Twilight which is in the same zone.
+DrPluton aaah thanks.
I wish someday GrimBatol is used in Classic+ content.
Who else loves the music made by Adrian von Ziegler? (first song after intro)
Are you going to do more videos like the History of the Ashbringer? I loved that one!
i'm pretty sure this is going to be a New raid in Classic WoW ! for sure !
How do you achieve the camera movements that you do for these videos? Great work man.
he uses a map viewer combined with some in game shots so like where it's still looking at something that could be in game but while the fly happens that's him scrolling with the map viewer.
reminds of the mines of moria in Lotr
1:34 Mines of Moria inspiration i assume
go do BRD.. ;)
So much missed potential.
Well it was going to be a raid in cata :(
Truth. It was still my favourite Cata dungeon by a large margin
kalibos Cata dungeons pre-nerf ftw.
it soooo *SHOULD* have been a raid! :C
@@nataliemeyers2626 Grim Batol and Azjol Nerub are my two biggest gripes when it comes to missed opportunities
I want to know how much file space would be reduced if you removed all the unsee-able stuff outside maps like this
Maybe it makes little to no difference or it is there for stability reasons..
The difference is very little, considering that stuff is never rendered when you go to the instances in-game.
Cool. Can you how it really looks hidden laboratory ?
do*
Could you do how it really looks Kezan? The goblin starting zone???
Or how the Undermine or Azjol-Nerub looks like?
Could you possibly do the Demon hunter starter zone/ order hall? Is it in the same map as broken isle or its own? etc?
that is its own map
do lower black rock spire and orginal upper black rock spire
There was once a time when dungeons were more than just a linear excursion for phat lewtz...
Grim batol would've been much better in the caverns of time going back with rhonin
Blackrock spire plz!
What happened to the va?
i suggest nax as i have explored it alot on live by exploiding myself out
their is a shit ton of content
xD me to and I got to that tiny naxx in stratholme
He has done Naxxramas and culling of strathlome already. Two seperate videos for you to enjoy.
I have done Naxxramas, it was the third How it REALLY Looks I ever did. Although it has horrible frame rate, lower quality and a few early-attempt mistakes, it is there if you scroll down through my uploads.
