For a few years after the new Tirisfal Glades was added to the game in BfA it was actually extremely easy to get to this area: the invisible wall behind Scarlet Monastery was for whatever reason moved, allowing you to literally just walk into Quel’thalas. I found this by accident and recorded the footage because it seemed like nobody else had noticed it - unfortunately it seems to have been fixed now!

"Doodad" is the term Blizzard uses for items you can place in the world, all the way back from the StarCraft editor (possibly earlier, but that's the earliest I know of personally). It was also the label of a couple of benches around the world during vanilla; one set that comes to mind is the set of benches inside one of the outbuildings near Karazhan. They were updated later on, but it is entirely conceivable that the current Stratholme you display in the video is left over from all the way back then (pure speculation on my part).
17:03 the shadows are left over from vanilla days rendering setting that was never changed. I remember exploring zones and would see a shadow of tree but no tree. The tree was on the other side of the mountain
I'd bet that purple glow is due to the addition of the Void Elf Allied race. IIRC part of their intro quest takes place in and around Quelthalas. Would need to nail down the exact position to prove correlation. Being that they we're only added in Legion that might explain why it wasn't present on your earlier explorations.
That would make some sense. But the biggest part against it is the ghost lands arnt actually there or share assets but they are floating in space in TBC. Could be some weird reason that it works out that way but is odd it would be changed here for the void elf stuff.
@@grandmacolin My personal theory is that the devs intended to use the old Quel'thalas as the VE Allied Race zone instead of the void meteor. It would have been a very cool Easter Egg, but it probably didn't get very far past the sky box and purple boundary.
Those bloodelf assets weren't there originally, I can assure you of that. The zone changing will always remind me of the cave in the mountains of Dun Morogh that use to change your zone to Silithus.
Good information, thank you! And I love caves like that. My favorite zone change is in the out of bounds area of End Time, where there's a boat that changes the zone to Uldum.
classic world of warcraft had so much content that they planned to include that they just didn't end up having the time to do so, The "night elf" ruins was placed there as a place holder by the developers to say that this is where elf stuff was going to be, the night elf pier was to say that the elf's had a harbor, very simple symbolism, and the purple glow sphere stuff was going to be the barrier, that the blood elves had but they ended up deciding against it
Woah, your channel has really grown, awesome job. Old fan, very proud of how you're doing ^-^ So the thing with doodads is that's just the name for basic props that can have hovertext or clickability added to them; braziers, flower pots, mailboxes, church pews-that kinda thing
Also re: the shadows on the ocean floor, they aren't limited to Quel'thalas. One time I decided to swim to the bottom of the ocean floor in the death knight starting area, and they're down there too. No idea why.
I've been to Quel'Thalas multuple times and have never seen the purple bubble. Interesting. The way I used to get to it (idk if they put a barrier up in retail these days) is I would jump off the cliff into the ocean at Scarlett Monastery and swim up the coast to the ruins. I know you can still use this method on Classic servers.
Stratholme has always been one of those interesting places in lore that people often over look because besides it's history there is not much o note about it besides the dungeon i guess
Yep! It's one of my favorite places lore wise, but even past that, it's significance in game would have been even greater if Nax truly was accessible through it.
Your awesome chill attitude. Interesting exploration of this nostalgic game. And humility at the end and gratitude for your subscribers etc has earned you a sub from me :P Hope you get the success you’re aiming for! :)
This game is great exploration-wise... I never inew this game actually had a zone called Quel'Thalas! And it probably survived since Vanilla! Interesting.
Hopefully more of Quel'thalas will be explored in-game in the future. We've got Eversong Woods, Ghostlands and Isle of Quel'danas. Hopefully more of the Kingdom of Quel'thalas will be seen.
If I could make a suggestion: Azshara’s Eternal Palace. I’ve always tried to use far sight on her fight platform. I couldn’t get far, had limited time to explore between wipes.
So I actually have a character on this roleplaying private server, and you can do all the gm commands and spawn stuff in, right. You can also teleport anywhere in the world, and I found a list of specifically classic zones. So I went to Eastern Plaguelands, and I found the Naxx teleporter in Plaguewood (but no Naxx, that would'be been cool). I also found Tyr's Hand before the Scarlet Enclave was there. Apparently, there were just mountains behind the large chapel. No door or nothin, which I thought was neato. But, the relevant thing was that I went to Thalassian Pass, and there IS in fact a portal there, but pretty much as soon as it goes around the corner, the landscape just like goes straight up all weird then steadily goes back down, and then it's just all dark-brown flatland, even around Stratholme, too. I was flying around Stratholme at first, but I noticed you actually can't walk on it past the initial portcullises on the left & right side. So you couldn't even walk into the Scarlet Bastion or into the undead side at all because I just clip through everything. Stratholme also has no flat red cloud over it since you couldn't fly, but the untextured Naxx model and the night elf ruins are there still. And no Ghostlands color palette, no slaughterhouse in the ground, nor any flags, carts, barrels, all those props there. So yeah it's pretty neat to use this server just to explore the classic stuff specifically. I don't know if these zones are actually still in the game in retail, but I get the Vanilla WoW loading screens when I load into them, and I'm nowhere on the map. EDIT: So I just tp'd to the Classic version of Tanaris, and the Caverns of Time was open. I saw the entrance to every current instance in there. So maybe some other things are also not as accurate.
As for the single patch of seaweed, I personally speculate that frills (grass and such) spawn based on textures and your frill density setting, among other things such as ground angle etc. It's possible that stuff like that is placed manually, but it wouldn't make sense on a world scale.
Damn I always love this kind of stuff, once I broke out of bounds too from that dungeon and looked around to get to the tower, keep up the good work really good job!
I've been visiting this area behind strat for years, there's even a spot to access it behind the small troll temple near Naxx. It seems though, it the last year or so Blizz has been working on the zone to ready ready it for the eventual transition with the midnight expac, cause there are new invisible walls back there, and the seaside cliffs have new footholds to jump onto from that route as well
that purple sphere makes me think that they are already working on midnight expansion in game..... I mean that Ex is supposed to be about the sunwell again and bring us back to quel'thalas... but to be doing this that early is nuts...
Have you explored the east side of Eversong Woods/Ghostlands? There is a whole mountain range & ocean we can't access because of invisible walls. It starts around Azurebreeze Coast.
One can assume that Blizz were originally going to let full raid parties into dungeons, as that would be the only way to get a 40 many to that raid instance. Of course, this could lead to headaches involving dungeon mobs getting overpowered and how to prevent players from cheesing them. The other possibility is that Stratholm may have originally been designed like the open world dungeons of Everquest that players could enter and exit freely. As novel as the idea was, there is no way it could work with how Blizz eventually landed on dungeons for the game.
Dungeons originally did let large raids in. You used to have to plow BRD with your raid guild to get to the molten core entrance. The weird window shortcut entrance was added later, Once they decided to cut most dungeons down to 5/10 man versions you see in classic.
Now that we know the 2nd expansion of the world soul saga Midnight will deal with Quelthalas, maybe thats why the skybox was changed to purple and they will actually develop that into a zone.
quel'thalas was always intended to be an expansion zone; the proof is as simple as the fact that since 1.0, there was a blood elf NPC standing outside of the path to quel'thalas in EPL named "Adon". Add-on.
5:04 It would be nearly the same, because i assume there still would be attune quest to use a skip teleport. Like with MC and brd portal. You can walk into MC in classic as a level 56 i belive using the brd portal. BWL had a portal inside UBRS. It was never really used as so but it's a cool detail that made vanilla wow charming as it is
there is a hidden scarlet monastery, You legit have to add the Instance ID into the DB, then you are able to teleport there since youve created the Acessability
If i want to see to the bottom of a misty body of water i use the "Crystalline Eye of Undravius" toy. This works great when im not on my lock and want a quick peek.
You can easily get into the cathedral or even rivendares room if you're playing a class with some kind of targeted teleport or leap, the trick is getting your cursor into the room though first. I used to be able to do this really easily in Shadowlands when we had Door of Shadows on my Priest. Id summon Spirit of Bashiok, he'd clip through, and I'd mind vision him, and Door of Shadows into the room. You could probably do this too, by using Spirit of Bashiok, followed by All Seer's Eye on him which is similar to Mind Vision, and meta into the room.
I don't know if anyone's said this yet, but my response to the description: new things may have been added during Shadowlands, because there was a new questline where, I think, you played as Uther and did some stuff in Stratholme.
Well seems like I saw everything back when I made my way around those parts. But the purpel orb is new. I do not know if you ever modded a game, but some ground textures have grass directly attached with them. So if you place the ground texture it will directly have the grass on it without extra work. I guess that is why you saw all that see whead. As for the moddels, they are just stanrdard models you can place anywhere with the tools. So don't expect something special. They most likely just placed something they already had in order to plan the zone.
I haven't played since the end of Legion, so this might have changed, but there was a toy you could get that changed the skybox to look like the inside of the twilight-ish bubble. Perhaps they keep it there for the toy to copy/paste the skybox?
Forever ago I had explored the undead side of stratholme, I fell into one of the goo pits in a zigguraut and the game couldn't handle it, so it logged me out. That character was forcibly logged out everytime I tried to log back in. Had to open a ticket to support for them to relocate my character somewhere so I could log back in, that was a real shameful moment for me like 12-14 years ago lmao.
That's right! From doing some post research, it seems like yes, it is the music for the great sea, but at the same time, from WoD forward, each expansion has their own version and it's possible that Cataclysm does too (not sure). So, I still need to look into if the music is the same for Twilight Highlands.
Dev 1: "Ok, so Dalaran will be moving to Northrend?" Dev 2: "Yes, only a crater remains in Alterac." Dev 1: "But what do I do with this giant magical sphere that was on Dalaran before?" Dev 2: "Just put it some place nobody can see it."
wouldnt it have been cool if they kept that original plan for the entry to naxx? it really would have added soooooo much to the feeling of a living world, it would have been awesome imo!
It was added in Shadowlands, so not sure about that, but the bubble you speak of can be found in the Deadmines! There's actually like 10 of them. I recommend exploring there.
what coincidence, i thought today about this area while looking on the map and remembering all these "we cant include quel thalas in the normal 'world' zone since deatholme would be on top of stratholme" arguments which ignore the simple fact that one could just create more mountain area between the two and elongate the peninsula a bit ... well, lets see what scenery your video shows us :)
In lore the blood elves have made a magical shield to hide them from the burning legion, if that is early alpha quel' thalas then that's probably an alpha shield... maybe that's as far as they got with that part of the map.
not gonna lie that purple vortex sky box does not look giga high quality it does look decently high quality, my idea is what if its gonna be used as an asset for the world overhaul thing? since its rumored that they may visually overhaul eastern kingdoms and kalimdor to modern? that could be a part of it idk, theres tons of assets in the game files that are updated stuff but are not seen anywhere accessible in the game..
on the vanilla map you could get past the barrier towards future ghostlands, behind Adon, by doing some jumps from the top of the zul mashar temple. there is a road northward into future ghostlands. it lacks the ghostlands texture but there's a single building at the end of it. i've been trying to find a video or a picture of that building but so far i got nothing. There was a video which shows vanilla out of bounds exploration in the north of the continent and there's nothing special there just empty texture, but the video skips over the building and you can only barely see its roof. I really want to see that building..
if you do any out of bounds stuff id love to see stuff that could relate to BFA zones Nazjatar looks like theres a ton of stuff behind the water wall, or even shadowlands/dragonflight. I feel like doing out of bounds stuff would be very hard for SL like ardenweald etc. or even certain BFA locations
And regarding that purple haze... wasn't someone leaked that next WoW expansion reworks the old world? Maybe some level designers are already at work doing something with those "white spots" on a map to finally add those missing locations that were dormant since original WoW?
Literally cardboard world. x) I remember when I reach the Quel'thalas in Vanilla for the very 1st time hahah that was so cool. :D Btw. they never added REAL Quel'thalas, only few parts & that's all. Try to do the same from the ghostlands side. I suggest using a shaman, since you can reach outlands from ghostlands, and it's a huge invisible wall there. Can you get to the zone through the sea somehow? Some people said it's possible through the Tirisfal Glades sea, but fatigue always kills me. Or just without using abilities, because I don't have a DH character.
I always thought exiled High elves would be hanging out behind stratholme and next to Ghostlands. The part on the world map that isnt clickable. I remember there was this fake mockup map made by someone and the place was called Fanu'danil hold. I still have the image in my computer
Ya the original developers stated that vanilla WoW was going to include Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, Northrend, Outland, Emerald Dream, Kul Tiras/South Seas. Obviously that is way too much especially when they were rushing to meet deadline as it was so they released them in expansions. Basically the content all the way to Wrath is basically vanilla content. Kul Tiras was also going to be the first expansion originally. What reason did they have not to do that? They ran out of world space on the Eastern Kingdom maps lol. That is why Ghost Lands is in a instance located in Outland. Draenei starting zone is also in the outland void. They weren't able to expand those maps until cata.
Good information!! I truly wonder how different the world would be if we had gotten all that, lol. It would be so interesting. Especially the Emerald Dream. I know the deva have talked about it fo4 years but have never made anything concrete.
@@GameUnCrafter They got a development diary book. Probably has all of the information I got and a lot more. Like Karazan is the first raid/dungeon they made. It's basically the basis they did most dungeons on. They just didn't finish it until TBC, but it's obvious it's meant to be vanilla content. Since medivs backstory for that area during the first war is he destroyed the nearby 3 zones. It's called the Grand Hamlet in 1. They reference it and like 4 missions take place in it. Basically Elywyn forest used to contain duskwood, deadwind pass, and what we call Elywyn Forest now. It was about as big as silverpine forest and was kinda meant to mirror it. Mediv nukes it in WC1 when he gets possessed. That's just one example of the lore fun to be had with the book. =3 Might also contain hints of what might contain things to explore that no one could have found yet. =3

@@grandmacolin My personal theory is that the devs intended to use the old Quel'thalas as the VE Allied Race zone instead of the void meteor. It would have been a very cool Easter Egg, but it probably didn't get very far past the sky box and purple boundary.
@@JS-lr7dc this is prevailing theory in the secrets community as well
Those bloodelf assets weren't there originally, I can assure you of that. The zone changing will always remind me of the cave in the mountains of Dun Morogh that use to change your zone to Silithus.
Good information, thank you! And I love caves like that. My favorite zone change is in the out of bounds area of End Time, where there's a boat that changes the zone to Uldum.
which cave was that?

@@GameUnCrafter INDEED!
I’ll be anxiously waiting for the video on the Twilight Highlands. Good Job!!
Hopefully, it's sooner than later!
Thank you!
classic world of warcraft had so much content that they planned to include that they just didn't end up having the time to do so, The "night elf" ruins was placed there as a place holder by the developers to say that this is where elf stuff was going to be, the night elf pier was to say that the elf's had a harbor, very simple symbolism, and the purple glow sphere stuff was going to be the barrier, that the blood elves had but they ended up deciding against it
It's such a cool area! I wonder if there are more like it in other out of bounds areas.
The barrier was added in Legion actually when the allied races came out.
@adriadrian6540 I don't know why the barrier is there then, it could be an asset misplacment?
Woah, your channel has really grown, awesome job. Old fan, very proud of how you're doing ^-^
So the thing with doodads is that's just the name for basic props that can have hovertext or clickability added to them; braziers, flower pots, mailboxes, church pews-that kinda thing
It definitely has!! Thank you so much :) and I love finding doodads all over haha.
I've heard a couple people use that method! I'll have to try it when I get to classic explorations.
Stratholme has always been one of those interesting places in lore that people often over look because besides it's history there is not much o note about it besides the dungeon i guess
Yep! It's one of my favorite places lore wise, but even past that, it's significance in game would have been even greater if Nax truly was accessible through it.
6:58 from what I remember in vanilla 2005 era, when swimming around the northern part of the map this was present looking up the Mts from the ocean.
Nice! I never tried to explore this area before BfA.
Your awesome chill attitude. Interesting exploration of this nostalgic game. And humility at the end and gratitude for your subscribers etc has earned you a sub from me :P Hope you get the success you’re aiming for! :)
Thank you so much and welcome to the channel!
This game is great exploration-wise... I never inew this game actually had a zone called Quel'Thalas! And it probably survived since Vanilla! Interesting.
It's definitely my favorite game to explore as well as my favorite area to explore in WoW.
Hopefully more of Quel'thalas will be explored in-game in the future. We've got Eversong Woods, Ghostlands and Isle of Quel'danas. Hopefully more of the Kingdom of Quel'thalas will be seen.
@@thesnep4757 also the amani ruins or remnants
If I could make a suggestion: Azshara’s Eternal Palace. I’ve always tried to use far sight on her fight platform. I couldn’t get far, had limited time to explore between wipes.
I will have to check it out! I think that's one of the few places I've never set foot it.
Amazing work documenting this area!!! Very well done !!
Thank you so much!
Should do end time dungeon, a hidden city., and secret fishing spots, it’s HUGE
Imagine there was a Raid Portal inside of Naxxramas that functioned and allowed you to get all of the old stuff that was discontinued forever ago.
So interesting, tyvm for your work!
Thank you so much!
Love this stuff!
Wow this was super professional
Thank you so much!
I've been visiting this area behind strat for years, there's even a spot to access it behind the small troll temple near Naxx. It seems though, it the last year or so Blizz has been working on the zone to ready ready it for the eventual transition with the midnight expac, cause there are new invisible walls back there, and the seaside cliffs have new footholds to jump onto from that route as well
I definitely agree that Blizzard is up to something here.
I really love these videos :) Idk why but it gets me hyped about the game lol.
that purple sphere makes me think that they are already working on midnight expansion in game..... I mean that Ex is supposed to be about the sunwell again and bring us back to quel'thalas... but to be doing this that early is nuts...
cant wait to see what they do with quel'thalas in midnight and then compare it to this
This video is awesome. Also vengeful retreat increases your glide speed more than fel rush does.
Thank you so much!
I have loved discovering your channel! Very well done my friend
Thank you so much for your support :)
Now that we know the 2nd expansion of the world soul saga Midnight will deal with Quelthalas, maybe thats why the skybox was changed to purple and they will actually develop that into a zone.
Everyone that played on henhouse recognizes those ruins :)
quel'thalas was always intended to be an expansion zone; the proof is as simple as the fact that since 1.0, there was a blood elf NPC standing outside of the path to quel'thalas in EPL named "Adon". Add-on.
5:04 It would be nearly the same, because i assume there still would be attune quest to use a skip teleport. Like with MC and brd portal. You can walk into MC in classic as a level 56 i belive using the brd portal. BWL had a portal inside UBRS. It was never really used as so but it's a cool detail that made vanilla wow charming as it is
That makes sense! It was such an interesting choice to leave it in the instance.
there is a hidden scarlet monastery, You legit have to add the Instance ID into the DB, then you are able to teleport there since youve created the Acessability
If i want to see to the bottom of a misty body of water i use the "Crystalline Eye of Undravius" toy. This works great when im not on my lock and want a quick peek.
I'll have to look into it!
My best exploration was going up to IF airport pre Cata, as a horde. Good times
I love that exploration. One of the first places I explored waayyyy back in Wrath. Can't remember if I did it as a Horde character though lol.
This is one of my favorite places to explore. I made it with my mage by teleporting through the gate.
Nice! It's one of my favorites too.
Oh, that's neat, I didn't realize Mal'ganis in the Culling of Stratholm was actually in the Naxx area.
Yep!!
The purple dome looks like the one that used to cover Dalaran in vanilla
13:35 I know there was a random
Cave I think in the burning steps that required wall hopping that had a different chat location change.
I love seeing these chat changes! My favorite is in the out of bounds End Time where there's a boat that states you're in Uldum.
@@GameUnCrafter I explored so much back then most are fixed now some still there or in vanilla
The purple skybox is likely part of the ongoing revamp
You can easily get into the cathedral or even rivendares room if you're playing a class with some kind of targeted teleport or leap, the trick is getting your cursor into the room though first.
I used to be able to do this really easily in Shadowlands when we had Door of Shadows on my Priest. Id summon Spirit of Bashiok, he'd clip through, and I'd mind vision him, and Door of Shadows into the room. You could probably do this too, by using Spirit of Bashiok, followed by All Seer's Eye on him which is similar to Mind Vision, and meta into the room.
Great video.
Thank you so much!
I don't know if anyone's said this yet, but my response to the description: new things may have been added during Shadowlands, because there was a new questline where, I think, you played as Uther and did some stuff in Stratholme.
That would make sense! If they needed those assets, they may have stuck them there to easily access them.
In cata there was a glitch to fly in the Belf starting area and you could travel along the coast to these areas. Good times
I believe it!! I knew this area was discovered a while ago
You can get into old eastern plague lands if you go to wrath naxx and play a warrior, then charge into the adds inside the planter boxes
That purple orb has me theory crafting
Same haha
Another great video!
Thank you so much!
The plural for portcullis is portcullises, but note that portculli does technically work.
The music isn't from Elwin it's westfall
That's right! From doing some post research, it seems like yes, it is the music for the great sea, but at the same time, from WoD forward, each expansion has their own version and it's possible that Cataclysm does too (not sure). So, I still need to look into if the music is the same for Twilight Highlands.
Dev 1: "Ok, so Dalaran will be moving to Northrend?"
Dev 2: "Yes, only a crater remains in Alterac."
Dev 1: "But what do I do with this giant magical sphere that was on Dalaran before?"
Dev 2: "Just put it some place nobody can see it."
Rofl, yep, there are a bunch of the assets in the Deadmines OoB area that are the same as the dome.
wouldnt it have been cool if they kept that original plan for the entry to naxx? it really would have added soooooo much to the feeling of a living world, it would have been awesome imo!
Agreed! If I ever make the game that's been in my head for 15 years, I want to include something like this.
That purple sphere is more than likely the old Dalaran Crater's bubble prior to Wrath of the Lich King. Often times assets aren't deleted but "moved".
Haha, they definitely could add it to EK if they wanted to put in effort. Old Blizzzard would've done this for sure.
That glowy purple stuff you found, I think that's where they moved the shield from Dalaran crater.
It looks similar but is a completely different asset, though you can find those in the Deadmines!
@@GameUnCrafter if you say so, but just for clarity, I’m talking about the big dome that was around Dalaran crater in vanilla.
In lore the blood elves have made a magical shield to hide them from the burning legion, if that is early alpha quel' thalas then that's probably an alpha shield... maybe that's as far as they got with that part of the map.
This one was great!
Thank you! I appreciate it!!

not gonna lie that purple vortex sky box does not look giga high quality it does look decently high quality, my idea is what if its gonna be used as an asset for the world overhaul thing? since its rumored that they may visually overhaul eastern kingdoms and kalimdor to modern? that could be a part of it idk, theres tons of assets in the game files that are updated stuff but are not seen anywhere accessible in the game..
on the vanilla map you could get past the barrier towards future ghostlands, behind Adon, by doing some jumps from the top of the zul mashar temple. there is a road northward into future ghostlands. it lacks the ghostlands texture but there's a single building at the end of it. i've been trying to find a video or a picture of that building but so far i got nothing. There was a video which shows vanilla out of bounds exploration in the north of the continent and there's nothing special there just empty texture, but the video skips over the building and you can only barely see its roof. I really want to see that building..
Hmm, I do have plans to do vanilla explorations when I have the time, so maybe I'll get there?
@@GameUnCrafter would be great to finally see it. I've been interested in it since i saw the building on the vanilla interactive map online
if you do any out of bounds stuff id love to see stuff that could relate to BFA zones Nazjatar looks like theres a ton of stuff behind the water wall, or even shadowlands/dragonflight.
I never thought of that! Maybe they started in Shadowlands and are messing with it!
If you're interessing I know a secret spot to see a interessing thing in slivermoon, I never see anyone show that on youtube

Try to do the same from the ghostlands side.
I suggest using a shaman, since you can reach outlands from ghostlands, and it's a huge invisible wall there.
There was a youtuber that did the exploration from ghostlands towards outland, but used a tool called farsight (if I remember correctly) that's a freecam mod (idk if it is or if it still works for newer versions of wow)

@@YuyuHakurei I'd love to get my hands on one of those books! Mediv certainly has a ton of interesting lore behind his character.
