My curly hair journey was inspired by my daughter as well. She is a beautiful 26 yr old curly hair girl and I've always told her how much I love her lion king "simba" hair. Since last year she was calling me out on my hair trying to convince me to love my curls again. I kept coming up with excuses as to why I couldn't...the main one was "it'll never look like yours!" I finally gave in and decided to go curly once I accompanied her to get a trim at the curlology studio. I did go as far as to do the big chop and that was so hard. I am a cancer survivor and I've had an emotional attachment to my hair since it grew back. I can proudly say its been 4 months since I started my journey and I'm loving my curly hair (again) and its all thanks to my daughter...and your videos as well...thank you for taking the time to share :-)

You girls are great . When Jackie talked about a child believing their hair was “a problem’ , that’s how I felt about my hair since I was little. Curly hair was thought to be messy, unkept, ugly. I now embrace my curls and get compliments all the time 😮. Transition was difficult but now I AM ME ! 😃 😃

I am an anglo but I have always hated my curly frizzy hair. My Mom was wonderful but had no ideal how to deal with my curly hair. My dad would always say "Can you do something with that girls hair?" Now I am older and you rarely see older women with curly hair. So proud of you girls!

Love Jackie's story cause it is similar to mine, I needed to love my hair cause my daughter has gorgeous curly hair and I wanted hair to feel confident in her own hair. My teenage years I grew up with Teen magazine which always have advice to straight hair girls, and all the articles and hair advices I got wasn't helping me cause I had curly hair. They talk about frizz and ai thought defrizzing my hair was the answer to my situation, turns out it was not. I want to share good Mom advice with my girls and I am so grateful that I have you girls out there to back me up with your stories and journeys! Thank you for all your videos

I am so happy to have found you guys ❤️ I’m European (so white) but my hair is a curly and frizzy and sometimes it’s hard to see the other white girls at school looking all pretty with their straight hair and whenever I straighten it is usually when I get compliments on my hair. Though, with videos like this I’ve become a lot more confident in my natural curly hair and I’m embracing being different :) so thank you ❤️❤️❤️

Fresca Kanari Aw I’m so glad to hear that! When I was in school, I only got compliments on my straight hair too, never on my curls. But once you find a curly routine you love that works for you, it won’t matter much what others think about it cuz you’ll have that confidence. 💕

This video was the Best!!! This is pretty much the message behind LUS brands. It is great to have this self love and acceptance. I can actually remember my second son wanting to have hair like Corbin Bleu from High school musical, when he was 5! I couldn’t figure out where he had seen such a musical since I hadn’t taken him to any besides the nutcracker! Lol I finally realized it was a Disney movie! So my kid wanted curly textured hair when his hair was straight. Which is kind of the same for a lot of people. You want what you don’t have? I think what Jackie was saying is highly important to instill in kids. Every parent has to teach self love and acceptance to their children. I saw a parent just the other day ripping through her kids hair in a parking lot. Like she was purposely being mean and trying to be as rough as she could. The girl hadn’t been resistant at first, but it seemed her mother was intent on making her cry! Meanwhile her mother’s hair was covered in a scarf and barely looked like she just rolled out of bed with the way she was dressed. I felt so bad for the girl. I wanted to say something to the mom, but I know it would not have been received at all. Keep preaching this too our kids and any other curly people out there. Sometimes I wanna reach out and tell people to embrace their curls and stop damaging their hair. But then I think they will think... who the heck is this chic? I didn’t ask what you thought did I? 😂 I LOVE this content!!! Thank you ladies

Thank you so much ladies for post this! It's so inspiring! I've been getting so frustrated with my transitioning hair and it helps so much to hear this. I literally teared up watching it, you touched me so much. You're definitely right in point with all of this. I was told growing up that I looked better with short hair (or boy hair as I saw it) because my mom didn't want to deal with my curly frizzy mess. But now that I've accepted it, I feel so much more confident overall. Not just my appearance. You ladies and beautiful inside and out.

I loved your collab with Jackie, both videos really spoke to me as a Puerto Rican naturally curly redhead. I always struggled with my hair growing up and even though my mom never put me down about it, she had straighter hair so she didn't know how to help. With all the knowledge I have now and going to get more of, I look forward to the future and possibly teaching my future curly headed children when the time comes!!

The same exact reason that jackie had,is why i decided to transition my hair. My daughter stood there telling me she liked me hair straight, and i told her "no you love your hair curly" while im standing there doing that. I felt so hypocritical. And now almost a year later my curls are changing and ive learned to embrace & love my curls.

I love your comment at 3:28. When I was starting my career in the eighties/nineties, I thought the same thing. Straight hair was professional.
My Irish mom didn’t know how to deal with my biracial hair so I got twice a year hair straighteners from 6! I wish I knew how to deal with my hair sooner. I was in my thirties almost 40 before I embraced my curls and had my last perm.
I feel bad it took that long. When I first wore my hair curly to work, it didn’t go unnoticed. Had a balding coworker ask if I stuck my finger in a light socket! Thankfully only one negative. And husband always prefers my hair curly.

I hear you about being a role model for our kids. I have four kids each with different texture and type of hair. My second daughter in particular has the curliest in our Japanese family. Her hair is lush, gorgeous, thick 3c curly hair.....but she’s always been self conscience because it’s very uncommon for Japanese to have such big thick curls.
I’m half Japanese but I got my 3a curls from my Irish dad. I used to wear my hair in a short straight bob, straightening it, but since getting a serious sickness it’s easier to just be curly and accept my hair as it is. I hope my daughter will embrace her curls. Both my girls were in social circles where blonde, blue eyes and straight hair is the norm...even my oldest daughter with super thick 2b hair is accepting her hair.
My boys have such different hair. One is thick wavy and super course, the other fine and super straight. My husband is bald. We’re all different and beautiful. Thanks for the message!

so cute to hear about why you both embrace your curly hair! both my parents have straight hair and they kinda make fun of me embracing my natural hair as well as using sulphate and silicone free shampoos, conditioners and stylers. They make fun of me to other people thinking what i do to my hair is funny e.g doing braid outs or doing a pre-poo treatment. I keep telling them that they will never get it because they don’t have curly hair. Any advice?

I started my journey around a year and a half ago and I love my 3a hair now (it looks a lot like the girl on the left but thinner). My sister has 2b-2c hair and she straightens it every day because it’s frizzy and thick and she doesn’t know how to take care of it so I’m gonna teach her and give her tips so she starts embracing her natural hair :)

Yes, growing up was not fun. I had puffy, frizzy hair. My mother didn't believe putting gel or moose on your hair. Kids at school would make fun of my hair or even made a song about my hair, having roaches and all types of bugs. So sad, I permed my hair because I wanted straight hair. Now, I'm making a change, I know I will feel insecure but I'm going to my roots. Curly hair, here I come.

My daughter is the same. Also the only one in the family with dead straight hair. She's been asking for curls since she was 4. She's 11 now. She would take my iron and miracurl to curl her hair when I wasn't at home and her hair was damaged from the heat so I I took her for the perm so she would stop curling it herself. She had curls for a day. Her hair was so straight the perm didn't take. Funny thing is I know how she feels. I was the only curly haired person in my family growing and my school.

@joybeforeher I used to think the only way I could deal with my curly hair was $200 blowouts every 3 months until I came across this channel and @manesbymell. Now my hair looks better than it ever did and I feel so beautiful and confident with my curls.
