I just happened to be in Joplin today and drove by the Flying J. When I did , I thought to myself, “I wonder if Farmer is there?” 😂 Congrats on the 5k subs.
Thank you, i left joplin yesterday morning
Another unbiased helpful video, thank you. Congratulations on 5K+ Subscribers!
I have the 60 gallon version RDS aux fuel tank on my 2021 Chevrolet 3500 SWR Pickup. It actually holds just over 50 gallons. Living in California (Eldorado County) but being relatively close to Carson City NV that tank has more than paid for itself allowing us to buy cheaper fuel in NV, (at least when Echo Summit HWY 50 is open LOL). During the spring and summer we make a day out of that trip and do our monthly Costco Harbor Freight, Home Depot, etc shopping while in Carson City. I might even have time for a little trout fishing on the way home. Being retired my wife and I really enjoy that drive the scenery is second to none.
Awesome music... sounds like men working 💪 Love your intro too. Sweet & simple. It's great how you guys work together to help each other out. Hope that fixes the tank. Y'all be safeout there.
Thank you!
The only thing I can think of that may have helped is sanding around the entire area where the JB Weld was going to be applied and wiping it down with an alcohol scrub just before applying
Your video's are always informative. JB Weld makes good products. I wonder if the checker plate made it harder to get it 100% covered.
Not sure. I'm wondering if the Crack grew. It was 70 degrees out when we put the jb weld on. 2 days later the tank was full and it was 8 degrees out and on rough roads. It's still weeping but it's still usable which is a lot better than where we started. He's going to have it welded up after this load
Good video. Iv got that same tank and so far no problems. I’d say it was damaged in shipping. Congratulations on the 5K you’ve earned it. Stay safe my friend
Just the video I was looking for thanks j b weld on aluminum tanks!
It worked good for a while but eventually the Crack lengthened and it leaked again.got him by until he could get another tank
How has that guy liked his Chevy I’ve got a 2020 Chevy 50,000 miles I’m about to start rv transport with it, hoping it’s a good truck
Congrats on hitting 5K! Well deserved!
Thank you!
I'm about to have a new tank for my cuddy cabin boat delivered and I think I'll give it a strong pressure test before I install it.
Congratulation, on 5K great video keep them coming. Be safe
Thank ya sir
Congratulations on 5,000 subs 🎉
Thank you!
Thank you!
Jb weld works good for a quick fix, but to be honest it will need to be sanded well, and TIG welded. I’d have a certified welder TIG the entire tank and run a heavy pass over all the welds. Also, I replaced my tank gauge this past summer, super easy as well. Once he gets it re welded, I’d recommend using 3M spray adhesive and use a horse mat from Tractor supply and attach to the entire bottom and rear of the tank. Some thing I’ve done to mine, and you know I’m on my 4th tank now!!!
I'm thinking he's got someone lined up to fix it. Ihaven't thought about 3m and horse mat . That would work pretty good
@CFarmer the guy that installed mine put a truck mudflap all the way across the bed under the tank
My comment exactly. Jerry rigged. Tig weld it.
Congratulations on 5k subscribers!
Thank you!
Jbweld is good emergency use. To get you time to get to repair place to repair.
I had same problem with welds breaking. I used jb and it can’t hold up. I think what happens is when we fill them up the tank pops out a little and with us filling and emptying multiple times a week it works on the welds and they crack. What works for me and I’m going on 2 years since the repair is regular old fiberglass repair kit. Clean the area good scuff it up put a little resin down and lay your fiberglass mat on it and put another layer on it. I let that dry and I also bought some por 15 tank sealer comes in a little 1/2 pint paint can and brushed it over the patch not only does it kind of dry to the color of aluminum but it dries as hard as steel. 2 years no leaks and I have two patches in identical spots on opposite sides. I have a 75 gal L shaped tank and the L part of it I noticed would pop up when I filled it and then pop back down when some fuel was taken out. I spanned a couple square tubing across the tank and drew them down on both sides with all thread and stopped it from popping up and down. Now I was going to weld it if the fiberglass didn’t work but 2 years later and a few hundred thousand miles and so far so good. Sorry for the long post but fuel leaks are a pain in the ass!
I used ATV blue word good for me on my aluminum tank
Great video, JB does it again! Have you ever had issues with glow plugs on your truck?
Any reason why you didn't use the fibreglass patch?
Didn't that kit come with the fiberglass material?
What normal jb weld gonna hold up like in my aux tank before i put it on i got it sand plasted.? Any idears
If I had to do it all over again I would not by a RDS. Mine is a fuel tank/toolbox combo and my tool box cracked. I was torn between tractor supply combo and RDS and I went for lighter and pretty. Should have went with all steel from TS. Would have been cheaper as well.
Now if you want to go back and tig weld this how difficult will it be to clean it off and weld it? I would have washed it out with gasoline and wipe it out with towels and light it with a torch if necessary and tig weld it. No more work than trying to epoxy it.
anybody did use 701 aluminum "solder" sticks ==701 Fahrenheit heat need to get it to flow .. have a leaky aluminum gasoline tank from a 1961 Bentley = corrosion with several small pinholes . ! i know 500? F will ignite Gasoline vapors ?!
Is the plan to get it welded or see how long it will last?
He's headed home to get it welded after he unloads in California. It still seems to be weeping some but it's usable
Did you squirt some brake cleaner to wash out the crack?
We did
For what it's worth I have the same tank as yours. 10 months no issues
Mine has done me a really good job. Be safe out there. Weather's crazy
@CFarmer you ain't kidding. Last night 22 mph winds gusts to 40....in Illinois
Headed to Texas
My tank has busted 3 times the welder guy said was because of broken baffles I tank
Weld usually holds 1 year on diesel tanks diesel just eat jb weld
