As a guitar player for 20 years, I say it's totally not weird watching luthier videos with candles lit, some wine, and no pants on.
Glad to know I'm not the only one
To be fair, I started with pants on.
MAN, the guy at 10:40 freaking shreds. That riff was so clean, he seems to be a real good member in the Carvin family.
I've been working at GC for years, and every carvin i've come across has been beautiful. They're made so well, and always play smooth.
Love watching this video because I ordered my Carvin CS6 in 2013 just before this video was posted so it’s pretty cool to see the place my guitar was built and the attention to detail.
I watched the un-boxing video next, and I saw a very thoughtful plastic bag that the case was sealed in ,but i know thru the magic of tv ,everything was reviewed and then un- wrapped again to seal he guitar case,I'm thoroughly pleased to see all the care that was taken to get that guitar to the customer. I'm such a clutzz about new stuff i usually scratch stuff unknowingly when virgin-ally opening up those beautiful things!
Thank you Carvin and TTK for this series of videos. Really cool to see how these are made.
Nice. Thanks TK. Congrats. Carvin shows how cool they are just by the keepers for machine screws, instead of wood screws, for the back cover. Go Carvin!
Beautiful work Carvin. Thanks Mr. The Tone King for posting the build video series.
I have a carvin ,so clean and clear even with distortion and no dead spots which is rare it also stays in tune , I have a 80's V220 and will gett a new one soon
The dragon burst is pretty awesome finish and that cream trustrod cover is a nice touch. My dream Carvin would be a little different but that's the fun of that we're all different. And whta's even cooler is that Carvin can actually make that happen.
Can not believe a U.S. built custom guitar with this many quality checks for the price. Great deal TK.
Happy to hear that you have it! Can't wait to see the unboxing/showcasing video. :)
String through body with a TOM bridge is my personal favorite. Really like all the "by hand" stuff they seem to do, for a very reasonable price.
Put the video in HD and full screen. Watch as the piece comes off. You will notice it is too long in length to be the nut and it's flight pattern is of something very lightweight. It's a piece of steel wool coming off, not the nut.
dude, you lucky dog, killer axe . . . know your gonna have lots fun with this bad boy . . . congrats
I totally agree with the copper foil shielding; all my guitars have it for a while and it's great.
My DC 600 is set to be finished July 26th. So excited!!!!!!
cool vid...I have a Carvin / kiesel bass...awesome quality instrument. 18 almost 19 years old and still like brand new, plays awesome and stable neck..so yeah Keep on keeping on Jeff.
When he's buffing in time lapse it looks kinda like he's having a ridiculous sword fight with the machine.
Hardly wait for the unveiling. And the sound checks!
the top looks stunning
He's right, that guitar looks beautiful - I'm a bit jealous at the moment. Now if it were a seven string model I'd be fully jealous :) My guitar teacher uses a Carvin
I think I might have to hit Carvin up for a Custom model one of these days.
Excited to see the unvailing.
have a Carvin i bought second hand for $400. bolt neck, dual HB's, thick AAA flame top, locking tuners, real Floyd Rose, ebony fret-board. probably the best playing guitar i've ever owned or played and i own 2 Gibson LP's and a US Strat. Carvins are a high end instrument built for serious playing. and yes it sounds as good as it plays. wish i knew how good they were bfore i dropped $2000 on a LP. but hey i love LPs so it's all good.
Such an awesome series of videos, really enjoyed them.
As far as I know Carvin doesn't do custom inlay work, I believe the "Tone King" engraving was to be on the truss rod cover.
this is quality factory stuff right here! I'd go with a different color, but that's what makes us different!
Carvin does not use cheap electronics! Carvin is all top notch by far!
I really want a cs6. Now watching all these videos I want
Too freaking cool. Watched each episode
It's a beautiful build good job always thought this guitar was unique.....
Beast...Congrats on the Tone Dragon..She is beautiful..
Go to carvin's website and use their guitar builder. You will see that the engraved truss rod cover is a $12 option.
At 2:46 I could have used that buffer when I was in the ARMY :-) I would be so afraid I'd nick that beautiful gloss finish hammering those parts on the guitar. I guess that's why I don't make guitars. LOL Can't wait to see the Official Review & Playing of The Tone Dragon.
I love KIESEL so much,I hope someday I have one 😍
Stunning finish!
Their finishes have come lightyears from the carvins I've owned in my early years.
These vids have made me want to pull the trigger & get a DC600, I'm saving up as we speak, the Dragon burst is nice but I'm going to opt for the deep aqua burst on flame maple, 5 piece maple & walnut neck, natural binding & natural back & sides but with the same m22sd & m22v pickups done in cream/cream, it's gonna be nice!
Awesome this guitar is pure epicness really awesome work from carvin and your choices were excellent ! I wonder how this guitar would look like with maple fretboard :O... Anyway loved the videos now shred the mighty BEAST!!
Dream job, gorgeous guitars btw :) thnxxx for posting
I guess they must have anticipated with all your subscribers that somebody was going to want a TTK Signature Model :)
would love to see the brass furled inserts under the pickups that would rock! beautiful!!
Beautiful axe! Congrats Tone King!
I like this type of videos. Thumbs up.
I really wish Carvin shipped to customers in Europe, instead of having to go through retailers :(
At around 4:30 when polishing the frets with the steel wool machine, did the nut come flying off or was it something else?. Looked like there was some resistance in the instant it happened. Killer guitars at a great price. Nice work Kiesel.
I think every custom comes with one truss rod cover w/yer name & another plain one. I bet TK got a plain Trust Rod cover in the tool bag.
all of a sudden there is this exact spec guitar for sale on the carvin website....i mean exact spec lol. Don't know if they built 2 at the same time or TTK had to send his back for some reason, but if you want this guitar you can purchase it through their website. $1,484.00 is the Carvin price for this guitar with these specs.
Gibson and Fender have high resale values because of name recognition and brand history. Since Carvin only sells direct, and you can't stumble into a new one in a shop, and I fairly rarely find used ones in shops, they just don't have the same cache as Fender or Gibson. Great guitars though, my TL60 is still my number one player, over my Les Paul BFG and my Select Series Strat.
Gibson and Fender charge $1,200 for painted mystery wood and zero customization. And Gibson isn't exactly doing very well as a company six years after your comment (or even when you commented.) The chrome knobs off my Peavey T-60 will be worth more than a Les Paul Studio by the year 2022.
10:35, best job in the plant
Carvin does not put out junk. I own 3 and they look and play great. That was not the nut flying off. Lol!
awesome guitars..... i want a 7 strings Carvin sooooooo! congrats!
This guitar was beautiful when it was still all natural wood...
Pause at 4:36 it is a chunk of steel wool not the nut that went flying.
Plan on getting me an Allan Holdsworth HH1 with a flamed top in a deep wine finish soon 😄
This is great content!
Damn!
Makes me want a Carvin again! :>
Gonna have to take a trip over to their webs site and do some drooling.
Whoa! Actual human people with live build those things!?
Amazing I am going to order one!
He said the tone Dragon
thanks MIP !
Awesome!
Was that the nut flying off when they ran it through the rotating steel wool machine?!
Nice work 😀
I am also planning to buy one :D
Very beautiful looking guitar there.. WOW.. love that color and knobs.. one question though.. did you change your mind early on on the engraved truss rod cover? on the order vid you asked for it to be THE TONE KING.. not that this is a problem.. lol
Very cool Carvin make great Gtr's & Bass's , The PA stuff eh??? But Thats a beautiful color TK one thing tho I don't know why the resale is never good, But hey it's a Custom Gtr. 4 you I think they should have a good resale but they don't, I've seen Gibson's that would NOT stay intune but hold the resale value? I'd love to have a Carvin Bass in the same color.
Nice Guitar. But why don't they use full size potentiometers? Especially when they are talking about not cheapening out on the shielding and using proper copper shielding tape. Just seems really wierd and not something you would expect on a custom shop guitar unless they are some sort of amazing high tech mini pot.
Hey ToneKing, just curious why you went with the satin neck instead of the tung oil. I'm sure you can't wait to get this baby
once again bad ass sweet axe
I know this video is nine years old, but I have a question. Does Kiesel still use those cheap small potentiometers and those cheap quality blade switches?
What’s such a beautiful, expensive guitar, I would think they would use CTS, or Bourns, and at least Oak Grisby, or even better use Schaller megaswitches.
Is the Kiesel best company that makes made in USA guitars? i think so
Perhaps the best mass production company. Godin are also a very good company although they are made in Canada.
Very nice!
04:36 during that buffing the nut pop of
I saw that as well. OOOPS!
shit happens but looks like they fixed it pretty well its luck that it poped on factory and not after shiping
+TheTomuron1996 it s a piece of wool dude
Exactly, it's the steel wool shedding, not the nut popping out.
I'm wondering the same thing, I saw it up on the GIS site too. Tone King, what didn't you like about it?
I wonder if I could get a video series on my $200 Epiphone SG as it's being made?
kool video thanks for posting peace from shanghai :-)
busett finishingnya keren bgt..brp duit itu ya..
Wish the green part of the burst was brigbter
Can you get a wider pattern on that spary gun to waste more paint please?
unboxing!
awesome !
Nice chromatic testing.
Looks like this one ended up in GIS on the Carvin website....or is it an exact of yours TK?? Did you return it?
I'm pretty sure that was a piece of steel wool tearing off the roll.
how long before the laquer is dry enough to sand and buff? usually takes a few weeks, right?
great vid!!!!!
carvin son unas guitarras fantasticas..y a precios muy asequibles, para la calidad que tienen..yo dispongo de 2 modelos y estoy encantado...
What color is this guitar?
that steel wool sure looks like a nut
Yikes, at 4:34 I think the fret polisher got a hold of the nut and ripped it right off the guitar!
4:35 did the nut just fly out?
No, it was cloth. Slo mo shows this.
ahah you liar it clearly was the nut, there is no cloth around there. There is steel wool spinning, which is going slowly consume itself, but it won't ever break like that.
There are plenty great builders who use stainless steel frets, they polish them properly (not with steel wool like Kiesel does lol), and they take care of the smallest details.. don't go for Kiesel ;)
it was a piece of the steel wool that flew out.

Jeff is that you?
hi, i really liked your videos. I wanna ask a question, is it possible to paint the neck and blue first and then glue them? thanks.
Dang lol look at Jeff lol my dude
I would like to work in that area... Is my dream...
yup i wana work in paint or buff or frett or set up area...lol
4:37 the nut is flying.............haha
Damn, ol Albert can fuckin shred...
May I ask the Kiesel boys a question? I’m a pro guitar tech for 18 years . I work on carvins/Kiesels all the time. They are beautifully made ,except one thing. Why do you guys use low grade electronic components ? It doesn’t make sense to me since the rest of the guitar is high quality .
I also have a lefty client that always orders from you , and you won’t wire him lefty , so I switch up the wiring of pots so it goes the correct direction.
i'm surprised you think their electronic components are low grade. I've been a pro player for over 25 years, and been a Kiesel/Carvin user for over 26 years, and an endorser since 2006. I've played a half dozen other brands of basses over the years with claims of having better pickups, electronics etc, and the Kiesel/Carvin stock pickups and electronics are as good and no worse and in some cases better than the competition. My basses have the Carvin Alnico V single coil pickups with vintage plain enamel wire, and sound KILLER. More consistent than most Fender basses. My active/passive electronics which are stock, are great. Never had issues with performance or tone. I get nothing but compliments on my tone. I do sessions and live work. I've played on songs that have made radio air play. I guess great tone is in the eye of the beholder. Or should I say ear of the beholder.
bad ass video
Are those brass screw inserts available on the Carvin website?
I bet if you call them on the phone they would sell them to you.
