That is like an altered dominant scale starting from the 7th. A mentor once told me that an altered dominant scale is really just a major scale with a raised root.
that's a good way of compartmentalizing the altered scale. It's also the 7th mode of melodic minor. Which sounds like too much until you realize you can use various modes of melodic minor for Half Diminished chords and Dominant Chords.
James starts a small tour this week on...wait for it...bass clarinet! I can't wait to hear what he comes up with!

Harmonica Player 45 years, was full-time pro by 20. I have adapted to harp cool songs by Sandborn, Koz, Marienthal, Maceo, etc. Last band covered Billie Holiday, Ella, Aretha, Chaka Kahn, Sade, etc. LOVE your videos!!!! I listen to drummers, bass players, sax player like yourself to improve groove...mostly by osmosis since I don't read. Thank You for taking your time to share your gift here!
Speaking of Mario, with the recent re-release of Mario 3D World, I started learning its saxophone lead "Super Bell Hill" theme. Never played that game, but the soundtrack went places, like how they pulled out funk for Bowser's theme, lol
I just finished a lesson over FaceTime. Still had my studio over ear headset on. Your audio bass kicked in and I thought we were having an earthquake. 😬

Sirvalorsax... I really dig your video format! It's been years since I've played... I'm about to get back on it. That ruining the tempo bit you mentioned brings back memories...that's more serious than what the casual listener will ever know. And the Rap analogy is right on, the solo break should be like one's own signature. No one should be going around forging checks. Keep it going brother.

I know a guy that would play "Go Go Power Rangers" in every solo break he got for like a month. If you commit hard enough if it's both funny and awesome. I'll have to use the Magic School bus some time!
