And it left the audience with their own answers to their questions about the film. I love it when a film does that. Leaving things unanswered and having the viewers to try to make sense of it, is a brilliant move to make. Especially if your story is well written. And Joker is no exception. At the time, I was like, there was NO NEED for a sequel. Joker as a stand alone, would have been fine. But when I heard how much it blow up at the box office records, I knew then and there, they were going to make a sequel to bank off it's success. And I'm sorry to say this for those who had to work on it, but I'm glad it failed. As I said before, it wasn't necessary in the first place. Sometimes things, just should be left alone. Move on.
The entire failure of Joker 2 was actually a 1-2-3 punch in my opinion instead of a 1-2 punch, with the biggest factor actually being that Todd Phillips specifically gave the middle finger to the DC fanbase that had allowed the original Joker a jumping point into the mainstream. Remember, if Joker 1 didn't feature Joker, it would've made a couple hundred million at most, but because there was a massive mainstream fanbase that watched it and allowed it to reach further into the mainstream, it made over a billion. Meanwhile, Phillips decides he wants to completely remove the connection between Joker 2 and DC, meaning a large portion of the DC fanbase did not go see it. That itself is a sort of 1-2 punch as it both removes the built-in mainstream base but also the springboard it served as

What about the MonsterVerse sequels like Godzilla KOTM and GXK The New Empire? They may have gotten such mixed reviews but both of them have between very successful at the box office. Remember that I told you about Godzilla x Kong earning over $570M worldwide even though you never liked it?
