Mark, you are one of the best studio lighting teachers. I have been watching you for 15+ years. Your old videos are still very relevant even today. Light is light. Camera and lens videos get old very quickly but studio light does not.
Glad you like them! I keep thinking I'm going to run out of ideas, but then more comments and questions roll in and I think "that would be a good video." I learn so much by teaching, thanks for being part of the community for so many years.
I have the greatest respect for Mark Wallace. I love the teaching approach and the way he builds his lesson from a logical beginning through to a logical conclusion with just the right amount of detail along the way. I've been at photography for many years and I always, always learn something when I watch a Mark Wallace video!
Glad it was helpful :) I try to show as much as possible, but sometimes the spaces are so small I can't get a wide enough shot. Just remember everything is relative, if I did this in a different space I'm sure I'd change a few things. Work with what you've got and you'll get great stuff.
Thank you very much for the video. It’s very helpful. Except for the ability to shoot through the double umbrella setup, could the rest of the effects be achieved with a large strip box instead of a double umbrella?
It would definitely be different since a stripbox would constain the light a lot more than the umbrellas. The light would be harder, the shadows more pronounced (since it's off axis a bit), and the specular highlights (catch lights in the eyes, reflections on shiny things) would be a long vertical strip. Give it a try and see what you get. It might look great!
Great video! I recently found a new light stand on top of Amazon, it has six sections of removable rods up to 8.2' long, it has two sliding arm pistol grips that allow me to quickly adjust my PLM and softboxes, my current studio is an 8 ' and I can adjust its height as I want, and at only $159$ it's really improved my shooting efficiency.
It is possible! To do a full length shot you'll need to make sure your softbox is vertical. If the softbox is too small you may only be able to get a similar look for a portrait (not full body). Give it a shot and let us know how it works for you.
You’re an excellent teacher 👏 one question did you tether into LR cause I can’t tether to LR with my canon R8 or every other camera (tried other canons and new Sonys) AND MacBook Pro 16 M2 since more than 6 months and latest firmware on all software (canon,MacBook and LR) which is extremely disappointing and nobody seems to be bothered by that …thanks for any help
Thank you sir for making a tutorial for us again. I am from kolkata india. There are several tutorial on UA-cam but i only understand how u teach.thaank you please do a more more videos like this for us🙏❤
A softbox allows you to control the light a lot more than an umbrella. Also the shape of the light changes, changing the specular highlights (the reflections of the light).
Glad to see Mark doing instructional videos again because he's a great teacher👍

I have a question regarding this tutorial..just wanted to know may i achieve this kind of looks only one soft box??is it possible??

Yes, I was tethered to LR Classic. Have you changed cables? Talk to the guys at tethertools - they should be able to help out.

What material is on the wall? Doesn't appear to be actual cement.
@@AfroReactions It’s just a concrete wall
Mark
Are you in the US or still over in another country?
I’m back in Arizona.
❤
Thanks, Mark
Title of your video should say “affects” not “effects” (in the copy next to the model’s image). There is a difference…
Grrrr, how could I miss it! I'll update it. I hate it when I mix up the verb and noun.
