Dual port every day! Your VW will thank you!

    Dual port, for sure.

The single port manifold you have looks like a 40hp manifold. Quick way to confirm this is whether or not the flanges that mount to the head are fixed or loose. If they are fixed it won't be a good candidate for your build. The 28 pict carb might be considered small for your motor too. Just some food for thought.

If you are going to daily drive it, For sure you should go dual port. Although Single offers more torque at lower speeds but Dual has more power at higher speeds it depends on your budget, Hope this helped.

I would go singleport with 31pict-3 carb and dvda distributor. Its the same power as a 1600 dualport.

Double check how you put the oil relief piston in.

Do not use the slotted screws and the higher piston for oil pressure, use a screw with a square, the original VW piston and the original spring.
The 1600 single port cylinder heads are better for a single carburetor Daily, you won't have extra power with dual port configuration.
    1.25 tippers can help.
you should not use a Pict 28 from a 1200 on a 1600, and obviously not on a double port, you need a pict 34. unless you have 1200 cylinder heads with 32/30 valves and pict 28 instead of 35/32.
The valves will have to be broken in and maybe the seats will have to be resized and new guides will have to be installed.

Have your friend with the vw repair shop, look at the heads. Ask him, what he recommends for you.

Check out Mike Fn Garage here on yt. He has some good videos on porting out single port heads to give better air flow and performance comparable to dual ports. He has a lot of great info on VWs. I have a 1969 with single port, and (once I finally start working on it) since the motor appears to be in good shape, I'll just work on porting the single port heads to help with better flow. Really depends on what shape everything is in once i start tearing into it. That said, by the time you have some one rebuild the heads, you might have more money in it than just buying some new ones.

depends on your budget. there is nothiing wrong with a single port set up for a daily driver. seeing as you didn't beef up the cam i don't think it will gain you much.

Actually beetles are one of the easiest cars to repair/restore due to how easy it is to find parts for it
