    you're doing god's work with this channel, it's really cool to see a guitar influencer spreading knowledge that's going to improve your compositional skills and overall feel with the instrument rather than just shredding because they wanna look cool. i'm a huge fan and have never commented before but almost everything you put out has been very useful.

    This is EXACTLY what I was trying to figure out. I recently started studying music theory and my tracker explained me the circle of fifths in all of the details and how to find a key, relative key and other chords of the scale.
    What he didn’t show me, is this pattern. I knew that in any key there is a pattern which I would be able to move around and change the key, but I couldn’t figure it just yet, thank you Brandon.

    as a rock guitarist venturing into jazz, how do i make my solos sound more jazzy? i feel like the pentatonic solos won't cut it at the jazz club

    • @petal_cult
      @petal_cult Рік тому +2

      to start off with something you're familiar with, you can do pentatonics and blues based licks but change which scale/key you solo in based on what chords you're playing over:
      so as a general rule, you can pick any scale with all/most of the chord notes in it and it'll sound pretty good, so like over a Dm9 you could play Dmin, Fmaj, Amin, Cmaj pent or blues scales and it'll be so sick, and then next chord you can change to those scales etc, but you can get way weirder than you expect and have it sound good once you feel comfortable experimenting
      pro tip: minor pent is usually more versatile than major pent,
      also make sure you pay attention to where the tension is in the chord progression bc that's where you can go nuts with all those chromatic notes as long as you resolve it or purposefully don't
      it's also fun to make up a melody line and run with it and see where it takes you, it's all about improv and having a bunch of vocabulary to draw from when you're making shit up
