I adore Bess! Lisa Gerritsen was so wonderful in this role, so glad she was cast as Bess. She and Cloris had amazing chemistry, so real and so magical together! (:
Scott Colomby played Warren. He was in Caddyshack (1980), Porky's (1981) and Demolition Man (1993). That guy is very easy on the eyes. Edit: The funniest bit in this episode was the exchange where Phyllis is trying to explain to Leo that Bess wants to marry a man whose parents are midgets; that's a wonderful scene. Funny how The Golden Girls would borrow the "Shrimp?" gag years later when Rose dated a little person, Dr. Jonathan Newman.
So that is why that scene felt familiar!! Blanche, over a decade later, striding into the living room with shrimp and turning back around. (I watched GG first, before MTM)
This was the best episode of "Phyllis" ever! I have seen every episode of it & this was the best, especially when Phyllis was trying to tell Leo about Warren's parents.
Scott Columby was incredibly cute... Weird that Bess announces at the beginning that they are definitely getting married and then by the end, he's completely gone. I think he would've been a better catch than the guy she ended up with at the end of the series who got her pregnant!
This episode aired 12/1/1975. Actress Lisa Gerritsen (Bess) was still 17. Actor Scott Colomby was 23. He is best known for his role in "Caddyshack" which was released 7/25/80. Interesting enough, his Caddyshack co-star, Michael O'Keefe (DANNY NOONAN), appeared in S1 E10 episode (All Together Now) where he tried to romance Phyllis at a disco.
He won an Emmy as a teenager for That Certain Summer and a Tony nomination even younger in 1968. He played Dorothy's son (the musician) on The Golden Girls.
Scott Columby was soooooo sexy. The problem is that Bess had all these boyfriends and in the end, she ended up with - and got pregnant by - one who was just a ne'er do well dud. They should've made Scott a regular on the show and marry, not just have him come in on this one-shot and announce immediately that they're marrying. Crazy. This show was not very well-written most of the time. I think Cloris knew it too and was frustrated by it sometimes (I've heard.)
@@thecawdsquad875 I'm sure that's not true because it would be self deprecating. People that think they know better than them and the rest of us, decided for them, and I continue to protest when it comes up. Now granted, some of them might have been brainwashed by the deciders to think it's good, but a small person is a person of low character. To call a person small, is an insult on this level AND others, to an English speaker. And to whatever degree I am wrong about "others" deciding for us, I still will not be told what to call anyone by anyone, unless it is based in reality, and not derogatory if it is not the subject's fault. Maybe I know better than those that know better. Look into it.
Mother Dexter stole every scene.
mother dexter was the original golden girl
13:30 OMG this is hilarious.... Old people can indeed be very weird.

I remember watching this episode when it originally aired. still so funny after all these years
The best Phyllis episode, in my opinion!

Fantasy material.

@@MrDarren690 The whole shrimp thing is a sitcom trope in its way; there's even a clip from Will and Grace...

Was Leo doing drugs or something? Oh right. This is San Francisco in the 1970's. Everybody was doing drugs.
15:10 onward--priceless.
Just the expressions on her face , i'm dying😅
People say that Cloris Leachman & me look like mother & son, which is a compliment!
Hilarious episode and well-handled, although I don't think it would be allowed to happen today, lol!
SHRIMP! LOL
@@ibepiglet6384 I kept thinking about that Golden Girls episode myself. 😄
@@eduardo_corrochio well, that IS the same actor who played Rose’s “dead” daddy in that episode.
@@Alanb1980 Yep, actor Billy Barty was in the dream sequence, along with famous 1980s psychic Jean Dixon.
God mother Dexter makes me laugh I bet your ticklish and that glint in her eye with the finger twirling.
This is hilarious 😂 but they could NEVER get away with it now!
Right. Too bad insulting little people gets called out more now.
That "shrimp" joke was used later in the Golden Girls episode when Rose dates a little person.
And Billy Barty played Rose’s father, too.
Thanks for the upload !! Warren was in Everything in the 70's.. XD
The boyfriend was played by the same actor who played Cliff Randall, Barbara Cooper's love interest on "One Day at a Time".
And he was also in he was he knows you're alone in 1978 too.. XD
Scott Columby
@@thorthatcher2770 Yes..He was also in Are you in the house alone from 1978 with Randy Quade and Robin Matterson..

Oh yes indeed. He was way sexy in those days.
The boyfriends father is Billy Barty

SHRIMP.HaHa!
Warren was in the Porky's movies.
Warren's daddy is Billy Barty!
What happened to episode 12?
This is the Funniest thing i've ever heard
That was rude of that waiter to charge Phyllis and not charge Julie for her meal!
Julie (the Latina friend) was a regular on other TV shows, such as All in the Family and Gilmore Girls.
You missed episode 12......

I notice alot of story lines from Marry Tyler Moore show.
10:08 they stole this set-up and joke later on The Golden Girls
Poor Phyllis...she was always the butt of her own bad joke.
always love bees
Golden girls anyone
I wonder if Billy Barty remembered the "Shrimp?" joke, when re used on GG (even though he wasn't in that scene)?

"Little people" is stupid and an insult. Respect includes not thinking of someone as little much less labeling them that.
That's what they prefer to be called.

15:30 - now THIS whole thing was stupid. The problem with "Phyllis" is that a lot of it just wasn't that well-written.
That scene was hilarious.
Leo is... not bright!
Leo wasn’t a good character, however, I wish they would have kept Julie on the show.
