I am a retired Marine and knew Jack through our 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines Association. This interview was very well done and I am proud to have known Jack and all the Marines / Navy corpsmen from 2/4 I met in Vietnam and subsequently over the years. Jack died of cancer some years ago and he is truly missed.

So many men survived with the scars of battle, mentally and physically. We owe them thanks and respect. For the soldiers that fought and the ones in a support position. They were all trained to fight but the ones that fought were well supported by the people in the rear. Devil Dogs are the real McCoy and once a Marine always a Marine. Thank you for the sacrifice you made for our country Jack.

I too was with 2nd Bn 4th Marines in 1966, Golf Company. I joined the Battalion in Chueli, Hill 69, moved to Danang and Dong Ha by April. Spending the rest of my tour in Phubie, Camp J.R. Carroll, Camlo, the “D” and the Rock Pile, until I rotated out in December. So as it goes we walked through much of the same mud. Glad you made it back to the world, just like you I lost friends too.

Such a phenomenal endeavor Mr. Capetto it must have been to capture the raw emotion and telling of what it means to a person, a soldier in time of battle and war. Jack's profoundly human experience was relayed so respectfully and touching. The salute and the end, and the commentary that preceeded was beautifully executed. Thank you for sharing.

Glad you made it home Jack, hope you are well. One phrase in all these interviews that bugs the hell out of me is "it was an unpopular war". All wars are unpopular.

"We took a hell of a beating and we gave them a hell of a beating". I'm sure that Jack and the other Marines beat the hell out of them.Semper Fi Jack.

Good interview. I really appreciate the way he defined freedom. I want anyone who reads this though to ask yourself; if all these wars we've fought are for freedom then why after each one we are less fee then before we went.
Side note; I'm not some liberal douchebag hippie hipster. I joined the army in the middle of a nasty war that was said to be for our freedom.

I delivered in papers for the New Haven Journal Currier, goin thru grade school . . . in the 60's. My visual either was thru watching Walter Cronkite, watching the evening news, or, reviewing my paper each day -.Front Page, or reviewing casualty count .. . . on the second page. I was too young, to factually realize to this morass, daily negative news . . . 💀🇺🇸

I have approached my good friend about wether he would be interested in having you interview him. He was a Scout Dog Handler who lost I believe Three K-9 in the Two Tours as a Marine Scout. He has a very interesting Story of His Time in Country to coming home and beginning a new Career here in Michigan. I have wrote him to asked explaining that I will Sponsor the Interview so The Scout and His Partner will also be on Tape so the Part of The Soldier’s Life as a Dog Handler not with one Tour but Two plus losing Two K-9 Partners who Perished in Combat. God Bless Each and every Soldier Especially the Vietnam. My Dad was a Korean War Veteran also Three Brothers who All Three in the Army Two as 182 Airborne with Combat Service and the Sad part is All Three have passed on.
