@@epmanualphysicaltherapy My hip problem began with a hysterectomy. The removal incision was vertical and some of the internal stitching failed to heal. Hence a big muscle imbalance occured over the years and sciatica and hip problems developed. I suffered a hernia in 2020 which was a blessing in disguise! I got my deep core stitch back in part. I have had help from a Pilates rehab studio. The instructors had identified overtight quads, hip flexors and hamstrings and lazy glutes. So I have started using your hip support exercises. I have very recently been seen by an orthopaedic consultant and surgeon. He said my hip wasn't too bad but I could have a hip replacement if I wanted one but he thought it was a little early in the process. I think he sensed my reluctance! I am in the UK within the NHS system. You are so right that there is no prevention of these problems at the point when they could be prevented and the exercises given by physiotherapists are too generic. I'll give your exercises a good go and swim! Thank you
I had a persistent knee problem. Today my doc checked and said my hamstrings are very tight and my quadriceps are week . He recommend to stretch the hamstrings and strengthen the quadriceps. Now I understand the core reason is the week abdominal muscles and glutes
I'm curious if you have any videos to help the process of healing proximal hamstring tendinopathy and the stages of recovery(I know it can be a long road to fully healed)? I first thought my issues were from arthritis in my hip, but I finally figured out how and why I injured myself doing yoga. Your videos have been my favorite PT ones, so I'd be grateful for any information on this from you. Thanks and best wishes.
Thank you so much for the excellent videos you have shared with us. I have multiple bulging discs. I have sciatica on the left side, My hamstrings are tight and causing me pain . I can't stand too long. Have to rest after 20 to 30 minutes. My physiotherapist is treating me at the moment with ultrasound, heat lamp, electric patches, massage, and nowadays giving me 10 to 12 minutes stretching sessions on a stretching bed with weight. Their main goal is to lower the pain, to be able to start with mild to moderate exercises to strengthen the muscles on the lower back and lower abdomen . I feel some strengthening , but have pain on my hamstring . What do you suggest ? I haven't had holiday for years, and I want to go for a short vacation. I am afraid that this pain will ruin my trip... I don't know what to do... Thanks once more... Have a great day.
sitting posture makes a big difference for me in terms of hamstring tightness. I found that if I lift up my feet in front of my knees, my hamstring is a lot happier than if my heel is direct under my knee or even behind my knee on a saddle chair. I wonder if hamstring can get tight if I am sitting in a position that shorten and/or load it over a prolonged period of time.
Omg. I think this finally hit the nail on the head for me. Can I start with walking & squats. Then move into clams & bridges. Could this also give me right foot pain & slight numb toes.
Hey Carnivore gal! Clams and bridges tend to be the easier place to start since you don't have to worry about balance. But either way works as long as you're working on getting those glutes stronger! Yes this can definitely contribute to the sciatic nerve affecting foot pain and numbness into the toes.
Can a tear in the hamstring cause sciatica pain? I just subscribed and will be watching your sciatica playlist. I am 74, female, active, yoga , and I have had a knee replacement on the opposite side of my pain. What videos from your play list would be most beneficial for me. Yes, the pain goes from hip, hamstring, knee and behind knee, calf, ankle, toes, and under foot. Not all at the same time. Doing, clam, proper bridges (you talked about glute and lower abdominals) really help me. Could you please advise me on which videos you have will be a good fit for me? Also, are there yoga poses that help or hinder me? Thank you for your time and knowledge.
I do exercises to strengthen my hips but I don't know if I am hurting my back I have cervical stenois and I don't know what hamstring exercises are please show me what they look like.
Good info. Now my guess is stretching, gently, would be good. I'm sure you have a video on stretching because I've been catching lots of your videos. 🙂 And soon I'll have an unloader brace for my right knee! Oh boy, I'm soooo excited. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 See you in the next video
Hey Kathy! We actually do not have a video on hamstring stretching as we don't believe its the best thing to be doing for most people with hamstring problems. It is much better to treat the muscle weakness in the area so you can get the hamstring to calm down in the long run. Stretching the hamstrings is not a completely wrong thing to do, it's just not the main thing to focus on. We'll probably make a video on this sometime soon.
These explanations are wonderful. Many thanks.
You're welcome Asit!!!
I really appreciate all this info you give us. Could you please show us some exercises to tighten our abdominal muscles?
