Oh my gosh, I can't believe I'm doing this. I'm Mureena Turnquest-Wells. I am a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist and my job involves taking care of women that have complicated pregnancies. The reason I decided to go into the specialty… I remember being a little girl, I’m from the Bahamas and my mother had eight children, with me being the second oldest. I was able to witness, or overhear, actually the birth of many of my siblings and I can still remember as a little girl saying ‘one of these days I'm going to know what's going on behind those closed doors’ and today I do. My patient care philosophy, I would say is being able to provide the best up-to-date and evidence-based care for my patients. I also believe that I should treat my patients the way I would like to be treated so I treat them as though they are a family member.
Recently I've found that I really enjoy cooking and trying out new recipes, so when I'm stressed I cook and cook. I also enjoy gardening so I like to get my hands dirty; because of course my work involves keeping my hands clean. So a way to relieve stress for me today is cooking and gardening. Yeah, so, you know sometimes when I’m trying to relieve stress after a difficult day at work I will sing. Maybe not even in the shower, in the car, on my way home, whatever. Sometimes I sing in my office and my office staff will hear me singing and they’ll say, “Sing some more.” At first I was afraid. I was petrified. Just thinking I could never live without you by my side. And then I spent so many nights thinking how you did me wrong and I grew strong and I learned how to get along and so you're back from outer space. I just walk in… I can’t remember the words. I’m done!
