You buy a Seiko, because you know it is the best engineered WATCH and it is also likely the best "finished" WATCH for any given price range. You buy a Seiko for history and the japanese sensibility, that it is the pinnacle of what the culture will offer you. The sensibilities of being simple yet refined, unassuming and yet at the peak level of performance. It is not to say that Rolex or "insert any other high end brand" is bad. Wear what makes you happy and if it is a Seamaster? Swim. If it is a Watermelon Underdog Gen2? Wear it like a king. Seiko is just that, the king of watch makers and the entire market has yet to learn why. Rolex lasts forever, just like Seiko but the attention to detail cannot be beaten by anyone else. You buy a Seiko because you want to be seen, but you also want to tell a story of why it is so great. Everyone knows why rolex is great and why Patek's are worn all around the world. Seiko is a sleeping giant, look at their newest offerings. It is an amazing piece of engineering and with the history to boot. I will wear all watch brands, but Seiko fits for people who are more of a discerning type.

Hi Richard ... completely self taught. Took about 4 years to 'reasonable competency'. six years to date. Lots and lots of practice and horology theory study. Hope this helps. Richard
Another really well done job. What is interesting to see here is the seconds hand of the 18000 BPH movement, and you can easily see it is leaping forward in increments, I almost could confuse it for a quartz movement seconds hand. Is it true that back in the 50s in the advertisement brochures they called it a sweeping seconds hand only if the movement was beating above 18000 BPH, otherwise it was called a regular seconds hand? I have two watches in my collection with a rate of 18000 BPH featuring a central seconds hand. I like to call it a creeping seconds hand instead of sweeping one, due to clearly visible leaps.
Hi Zeeraha ... yes the 18000bph does look a bit 'clinky' compared with the hi-beat models. But the hi-beat did become a bit of a rate race for it's own sake I think and the 18000 bhp could and can be made very accurate and of course it uses less power and with a hand wound mechanism that is pretty important. Thanks for the great feedback. richard

Hi. I'm new to the channel. I'm an hobbyist and I was told not to get the balance (impulse jewel) and the pallet fork into the ultrasonic cleaner because of the shellac. But I can see you got the mainplate with the balance inside for cleaning. Now I'm confused... Thanks

Hi Dave ... Well spotted! It is a standard 'I am filming this' dose. This is primarily an entertainment video and if it is in reality a bit heavy I dunk it quickly some one dip to thin it out a little. I need the audience to actually see something happening. hope this helps. Richard
Haha! First to spot it Mark!!! ... I was reckoning this would go to a million views before anyone picked up on that. You'll see that at the end of the video the hands are correct. Richard
The hour hand need to be at 12 if you have date function, and you have to set the hands when the date changes at 24:00 and you would need to be patient when setting the date, because at that time you have no hands indicating time. If not your houer and date will not match. The minute hand are always set on 12, then the hours and minutes synchronise. If you don't have a date function on the watch, by all means set the houer at 3 if you want, but the minute hand on 12! Best wishes!
Another triumph Richard and I hope viewers realise how much extra time it cost you to produce all of those close in shots.Thankyou.........................

Hi Richard, glad to see you are still alive and well in Wales. Glad to see this video too as I Have a KS 5626 7040 that's probably in need of your services. It was interesting to see what's under the bonnet so to speak. These are lovely little watches and underappreciated. They appeal to me more then most of the modern GS refs. I'd wear it more but I'm just not a dress watch kind of guy these days. Does this one have the fine adjusting screw between the bottom lugs on the side of the case? Keep up the good work! Cheers
Hi Randy ... yes these vintage pieces somehow have something over the modern offerings I figure. This model does not have the external regulation screw you refer to. I think that was more prevalent with the 'Access via the Glass' models for obvious reasons. Good to hear from you and thanks for the engagement. Richard

Hi Thomas ... I do, but not very often as my repair pipeline is too large for me to have time to buy watches to work on. I do have a nice vintage Seiko I bought a few months ago waiting in line at the moment. Thanks for the feedback. Richard
@@richardperrettwatchmaker Are you going to sell that Seiko? Thanks for responding to my post. I like your videos and I always look forward to your next video. Stay well and safe my friend.
Love the watch rebuild, I have two Seiko’s like when both
Hi John, The right Seiko can be a very lovely thing! Thank you so much for the feedback. Richard
Great use of tea strainers! Thanks for the tip !!!!
So glad I stumbled upon this video. Great work sir! You just won a subscriber.
Hi Gonzalo ... that's so good! Welcome aboard sir! Richard
Didn't know so many professional tools to service a watch. Wow.
Very nice work, somewhat surprised that the beat was 18000, thought it would have been a bit higher.
I really enjoy your videos. The camera work is superb. I'm curious about the loope you wear. It's unlike the loopes I've seen. What are its benefits.
This piece looks really beautiful, especially that sunburst dial and the polished sword hands. Are all parts original Seiko for the restoration?
How much do you charge for restoring and servicing a vintage King Seiko watch movement?
Hi Richard. Greetings from Canada. What a restoration!! Very tastefully done. What cleaning products/fluids do you use in your ultrasonic machine? Thank you
W😍W such delicate precision, your are truly a master of your craft, really enjoyed watching Richard, thank you.
Hi Manila Nineteen ... thank you so much for this great feedback. Richard
Lovely watch, excellent choice of strap color for this piece, cheers!
Many thanks sleepyastronaut! Richard
I think it's my favorite vintage watch now.
It is very cool Julien! Thanks for the feedback. Richard
Hi. I'm new to the channel. I'm an hobbyist and I was told not to get the balance (impulse jewel) and the pallet fork into the ultrasonic cleaner because of the shellac. But I can see you got the mainplate with the balance inside for cleaning. Now I'm confused... Thanks
Nice one ! One question though, why do you aligne the minute hand to quarter whereas the hour hand is on noon, please ?
Haha! Hi KillerByte ... well spotted ! I was confident I would get to 1 million views before anyone noticed. You'll notice on the finished watch the hands are correct. You are not just seeing sir but you are observing ... this is great! Well done! Richard
Super clip nicely articulated. Where would you rate The King to a Grand????
Nice dress watch. No complications!
Hi Ronald ... I agree; sometimes less is more! Richard
Not knowing anything about the seiko movement I have to ask if that is a standard dose of oil for the pallet stones? Great video.
Hi Dave ... Well spotted! It is a standard 'I am filming this' dose. This is primarily an entertainment video and if it is in reality a bit heavy I dunk it quickly some one dip to thin it out a little. I need the audience to actually see something happening. hope this helps. Richard
Thanks for the follow up. I’m learning myself. Don’t want to pick up bad habits, eh. I understand the need to display what’s happening. Carry on:)
Great video. Was I seeing things - did you actually set the hour hand on 12 and the minute hand on 3? Shouldn't it be the other way around?
Haha! First to spot it Mark!!! ... I was reckoning this would go to a million views before anyone picked up on that. You'll see that at the end of the video the hands are correct. Richard
@@richardperrettwatchmaker Yep I saw that. Beautiful watch.
@@markirvin2809 yeah I saw that too!
Richard, you are pulling tricks on us viewers :)
Vintage King Seiko be like: "even damaged i still keep better time than the average new watch".
Very nice watch. Thanks for posting.
Another triumph Richard and I hope viewers realise how much extra time it cost you to produce all of those close in shots.Thankyou.........................
I have 2 KS and 1GS and I love them so much all gold capped
Was eagerly waiting for your video!!
With love from India ❤️
Hi ACS Vlogs .... So pleased you liked this and greetings from Wales! Richard
I miss talking more. You are very entertaining.
Thanks so much Kerry... It seems though you are in the minority as I get way more views when stay silent and just show the work. Thanks again. Richard
Nice one Richard good to see you back in action (:
Thanks Darren! Great to hear from you! Richard
I like your new editing technique Richard. Love your work, but I miss the commentary explaining what's going on.
Lovely job. 👍💯
Thanks so much Alex. Richard
Your awesome at what you do. I would love to learn on how to do this. Seriously.
Hi E-Nigma .... thank youso much. I am self taught so maybe you could have a go ... l started fixing junk seikos from ebay years ago and gradually worked my way up to the more valuable watches. Hope this is useful. Richard
You are a character, Hahahahahaha, you make me laugh 😂 I love your humor.
Beautiful video!
May I ask how long did this work take?
I am also wondering if the dial was already that clean.
Thank you!
Good evening, sir. May I know the name or type of this dough that is used for cleaning or musk and from where do I get it. Thank you?

You always making a nice video❤️❤️
Hi Mrunal! Thank you so much for this great feedback! Richard
great job of an artist!
Hi alexus166 ... thank you so much! Richard
Richard
