JX3 Review - Hybrid Saddle Hunting

- Kyle and I review the newest JX3 Hybrid Saddle from JX3 Outdoors. We also compare and contrast some alternative methods, including technique, weights of setups, etc.
This is a LONG review video (with demonstrations of use), so please use the Time Index below to jump to areas of discussion that might interest you if you don't have time for the entire video.
Civil comments and questions are always welcome! We are not experts by any means and don't profess to know "all things saddle" or hunting for that matter. We really just want to show how we use these JX3's on our Michigan deer hunts.
We couldn't be happier with the JX3 Hybrids and I can't envision personally using anything else in a tree here forward. Thanks for taking a look, and thanks to John for making an awesome piece of hunting equipment!

Good review, guys! Thanks for sharing your honest opinions (pros AND cons). I'm a spreadsheet guy myself and like how you showed different JX3 weights with different gear. I also enjoyed seeing a father and son review. 👍🏼
Very kind, thank you. Continued good luck to you and yours this Fall!
Kyle didn't lock his tether carabiner! Great review. Mine came in the mail Saturday! The only thing to really be careful of is when you're standing. If your foot slips, you may cut yourself on the fork or bruise your knee or thigh hitting the tree. Ask me how I know!
Good catch on the carabiner. I'll be sure to remind him! Thanks John, and good luck out there sir!
@@kipcotter5374 Thanks!
I hunted all of last season with the JX3 Hybrid. I Killed a nice buck out of it. I now own the new version and the old version. I love both of them, it is my favorite way to hunt. I will never sit in anything else either. This thing is perfect in my mind
Agreed!
I like my jx3 too one thing I did was add a Doyle’s gear hoist to the bottom of my seat. I also decided to use a ring of steps with it as well. Even though it’s “ heavy” compared to other saddle the weigh carries well since it’s compact and in backpack form
I got one love it got three saddle the jx3 is the most comfortable that what I use lm 61 year old 285 lb
Nice review guys!! This is my second year with my JX3 and you hit the nail on the head comfort!!! I started with the Aero Flex and my feet hurt so bad after 4-5 hrs but I did 5 all day sits this year not a problem at all! Just like you I will take the comfort with the hybrid lightness any day.
Many thanks and good huntin'!
Great job!!!!
Excellent review!! Im currently stalking the UPS page for mine in the mail!! Im do excited!!
Just came across this video. Great job with it Kip. The JX3 Hybrid is going to be my future go to.
Thank you kindly sir! It's my favorite for presets on the farm!
Good stuff guys. Can’t wait for my new one to come in. I bought the original secondhand and loved it so much that I bought one of the new ones just because I wanted to support John for making such a cool product improvement on the guidos. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed talking with him about the changes that are coming and about his other ideas. Can’t wait for my new one to arrive. Great review
Many thanks! I’m ready for a Winter seat pad too! I just attached one I had last winter and it helped on long sits.
Just hunted mine for the first time today. John’s made an amazing product!
Nice. It's not far off my diy setup. Plywood "bosums seat" with soft foam and a metal spke for the tree. I'm going to copy the backrest.
Great review. I received my JX3 last February. It's a great ground seat for turkey season, and I can't wait to hunt with it elevated for whitetail. I use a modified LWHC on limbless trees, and it's super easy to climb with that setup. Good luck this year!
Is it tough to get down to it to add a ratchet or OCB strap to it to hold it firmly in place once you reach your height?
@@kipcotter5374 I seem to be able to scrunch up adequately, but you could always just lower down to the side and hang while you do the ratchet.
Way to many things to carry to me? Love my old api one piece carry easy on the tree and as comfortable as my recliner. Great review thx
I loved this video! I'm gonna get 2 this and an h2 saddle I think
Still hunting in my guidos web... maybe one day I can upgrade
Nice review of the JX3.........I currently use the Flex but also own a Kestrel and a Quidos web but I'm about to order the JX3 and sell the Kestrel and web. I have some of the same issues you are having with the lower back pains and hip punch and sore knees so I'm needing more comfort that the JX3 offers which is similar to the web but it should be cooler during the early season and easier to climb since the seat can stay on your back compared to the aggravation of climbing with the web
Joey Morris thank you and I think you’ll be very happy! No more pain.
I just got mine in the mail the other day, have not used it yet. The one thing I have not seen anyone do yet, once you get up to the spot in the tree you are going to hunt from, no one shows you the best place to hang your cross bow, hang your pack with camera gear and food, if I am a right handed shooter, the best place to hang my muzzleloader or gun instead of holding it in my lap. Should I hang my pack below a certain point? Should the pack access be to my left or right side or in the middle? High or low from my shooting position? Should the camera arm be high or low of my shooting point of view etc? Do you have your pack with you when you climb or do you pull it up and if so do you pull up the pack separate from your weapon or do you pull it all up together with one rope? Pack, crossbow or gun, camera gear, what does it look like with all your gear in the tree from the ground?
From one with three herniated discs, I understand. Peace
Lemme find a link that might help. A different saddle, but great info imo.
Worth a watch imo. ua-cam.com/video/otA9xxlzFgI/v-deo.html
Did you ever get any feedback about 1 hand strap adjustment for the 2 straps on back that are used for leg straps also?
Not yet. Will be using our own auxiliary strap for now.
What is it like to hunt with a bow out of this saddle?
I'm a ground hunter and/or blind and climbing tree stand users. I think it would really take some getting used to having those ropes in front of you all the time
Shot a buck out of a saddle the second time in one. It becomes the norm pretty quickly!
Did you use the Guido's Web before this?
No, I hadn't. Other saddles though.
Hey fellas
Is there any way to shave some weight off the system?
you can lose some weight by not carrying sticks. You can one stick or the lightest is to one stick up and than set a preset and SRT. In that case you don't need any sticks after the first time up and just use a ring of steps. Alternatively Bullman also sells very small, light weight "steps" that strap on the tree. I have never used them but they look light as hell.
Just curious are you still hunting out of a hybrid and if so do you prefer the first generation or the second generation?
Yes and I personally prefer the first Gen.
Why the first Gen ?
I’m looking to purchase one now 2024 and I think they have a newer one with headrest ?
@@cray-z7404 the headrest will fit either model. The GEN one was a little bit lighter, but the generation three has better straps and buckles that are weight rated.
Wtf why not just hoist up a lazy boy recliner,do you guys haul all this shit in with a trailer
Comment sound’s about as stupid as a screendoor on a submarine ….
