Simon is the best lyrical poet of the 80's. I can still listen to this music after nearly nearly 40 years. Duran Duran are timeless. Still loving being a Duranie after all these years. Listening to Simon talk about the meaning of this song really brings so much more to this song. This song has always been special to me as most of them are, but this one speaks to the very depths of your soul. DD forever.
I'm telling you...Big Thing is so UNDERRATED. "Land" "Palomino" "Edge of America" "Shame" "All She Wants Is" "Too Late Marlene" are PHENOMENALLY written and arranged. Shit, it is amazing!
Paul Argyropoulos I agree. It’s criminally underrated. One of their best and it’s easy to listen all the way through. DD has really solid albums between 81-93, minus Liberty. But everything else they put out was incredibly solid. If they didn’t blow it with Thank You or Medazzaland, they probably wouldn’t have fallen off the mainstream radio playlists in the late 90s.
I always loved Big Thing ablum - fucking brillaint album - land, palimino, do you believe in shame, all she wants is, and of course big thing, and the superb edge of america. Wonderful experimental shift for duran - to go from notrious to big thing - fucking depth of talent - such different styles but still stank of duran duran identity. Masterclass in music making.
Listeningto Simon describe his friend - I can feel his pain. I almost lost my brither Josh TWICE to an overdose and would hjave if I hadn't been home both times! Thing is we lost others to drugs! My brother was clean for 7 and half years before covid took him. THIS and other songs Simon wrote about his friend hit hard! Not just because of my brother but this describes my feeling for one frien and Ordinary world descibes another I also lost. Thank you Simon for your lyrics, but sorry you lost someone to make this song!
Nothing makes me more sad than "Ordinary World." After I heard that, I never doubted his ability to convey emotions. This one is my favorite on the album.
I'm still so impressed with how DD have allowed themselves to go in many different directions. The quiet simplicity of the guitar and the rhythm section and Nick's musical soundscape perfectly complement Simon's deeply personal, emotional lyrics making this one of the most haunting songs about a deeply personal, heartbreaking topic.
Such a brilliant song. Sounds even better in this live verison in 2022. I know they had far bigger hits but for me this one has always been their high water mark
Real gem. 🔝👌👍👏🔨✌️❤️ And always sounds so personal to me. ❤️ Because, like Simon, I lost one of my best friends too... 😢 Both of us - me and my best friend, used to listen to this tune on a heavy rotation... 💔
Simon is a great poet (who also has an incredible voice). His lyrics has a kind of old vibe , sometimes with unusual words. As most of his poetry, they are unreachable to a specific meaning, but this one, is addressed to someone which makes it so damn special! At the same way, Ordinary World is related to personal losses.
Estupendos fantásticos divinos y fenomenales de la música mundial gracias por compartir con nosotros los fans de Duran Duran este video simón es lindo mi favorito
30 year old song and it sounds as fresh as it did when it came out. With beautiful sonic landscapes laying in the background to add to the songs lyrical content.
Agree with everything said below. This might be a little observation but. . . I’ve seen a couple of interviews with Simon and John Taylor sitting next to him, I was struck by how attentively John looks and listens to Simon. They’ve been in this band forever, it seems, but there seems to be a true respect and interest in each other that routine and time hasn’t dulled.
omg, if you can.. find this whole show. part 1 and part 2, i watched it last night and i seriously think its one of the FINEST performances of these songs!!! DURAN MANIA!
This has to be the absolute best live performance I've ever seen of this!! wow! Such a powerful song made even bigger through such a great live performance and of course the commentary before helps give some context to it.- I remember the first time I heard "Do You Believe in Shame" (I bought "Big Thing" as soon as it was released) thinking thatit was going to be one of those future classic's, I just couldn't stop listening to it, and although I knew what the song was about, it was hard to appreciate how exactly truethose words were until I lost someone dear to me.... now when I hear this song its seriously difficult to keep from getting tears in my eyes....
Extraordinary, song. I really get this song, too.. Its in the top 10 of all time.. Has to be.. Despite being up against very tough opposition. Its has to be 10th,at least.
Very good song by an excellent band who, thank god, have decided to stick around and still release music. If you had told critics that DD would still be around and relevant in the 2020's I doubt they would take you too seriously. My hat is off to them. Trivia: What song has a melody very similar to this? Answer: Q eisuS
There's some really funny anecdotes about Duran Duran's guitarists. When Andy Taylor went to see Missing Persons live he told Warren Cuccurullo that he had no intention of joining his band mates on the recording of what came to be the "Notorious" album. Warren, seeing an opening wasted no time, contacted the Band's management and offered his services the very next day. No audition needed. When Andy Taylor left for the second time, hired gun, studio guitarist Dominic Brown was asked to help record "All you need is now" again the band never auditioned him, according to Brown, one day he found himself writing songs with Simon LeBon and nobody telling him that he was in the band.
@@gingerindian1141 Which was different from Cuccurullo, who got full credits right away but it wasn't until the turn of the decade that he was made a full member of the band.
Música com a melhor e mais bonita letra todas as músicas do grupo, depois vem o hit mundial "Ordinary World" em segundo lugar, mas a que tem a letra mais bonita é "Do You believe in Shame?" é sem sombra de dúvidas a música que tem a letra mais bonita de todas, em termos de letra ela é a top 1 da banda na minha modesta opinião
Beautiful, touching song. I'm not very fond of the most comercial successful Duran Duran songs apart from Hungry like the wolf and Ordinary World. This is the best example
A beautiful and hauntingly poignant track of theirs that I love. However, I can't work out if its the arrangement, production, or prep that gives it a little awkwardness ( I've been a huge DD fan since 87, so no shade being thrown, just an observation)

@Hany M.Gamal What's that line mean?
You can see the determination in the band to give it everything to honour Simons words.

I agree, so many songs on Big Thing are overlooked, as the whole album is overlooked by the mainstream music circle.
Couldn't agree more, these songs are absolute gems. I bought the album as a 11 year old back in 1988 , I believe. Already had great taste back then ;)
Agree. As usual it’s less pop/ commercial tracks I find so intriguing in Duran.

One of the most Stones 👅 sounds of Duran Duran.
I like noise!
Very good Man.
You know, I never thought of the song sounding that way, but you’re right! 🥰 ty
This is so emotional, but Simon nails it! Awesome!
Nothing makes me more sad than "Ordinary World." After I heard that, I never doubted his ability to convey emotions. This one is my favorite on the album.
I Love Duran ❤️
.. "Cause I believe a little part of you inside of me will never die".. Take care, Duran!:)

My of favorite lines of any song.

Amen what a tribute Simon my heart goes out to you!
Absolutely brilliant song. Big thing brought into the DD world. Who can forget the dance version to "All She Wants Is?".....
Such a brilliant song. Sounds even better in this live verison in 2022. I know they had far bigger hits but for me this one has always been their high water mark

Do You Believe in Shame ?...Duran Duran
Wonderful Song ...Forever in ❤️👈
It's never going to happen, but I wish they'd play this live now. Such a wonderful song. 🖤
Beautiful , keep going lads🐈⬛🐾
One of my top 3 Duran tunes
Too late Marlene off the same album is another. Big thing = underrated imo.
TOTALLY. Such an overlooked album! "Land" transports me to somewhere where I hope heaven is. Sounds corny, but it's true.
I'd agree. Good album
@@paulargyropoulos9936 It sounds like agony even if it's beautiful.
You are right 👍And "Land" is a musical briliant too 👌 I love this album ♥
Really feel for Simon-he should know it's not his fault about his friend. What a lovely song to remember him by. 🌹
You never forget & sometimes it hurts to remember, songs like this somehow comfort
One of their best! ❤️💞❤️

How touching this song is!!!!!!!
Duran Duran have still got it going on after all these yrs that have passed. Brilliant gigs and brilliant music
Big Thing was released when listening good music in good quality was everything you need. CD and discman days. I miss that.

is this the most beatiful song ever without a refrain/chorus?
Always a great band to listen to, they are timeless.
This song sounds even better now than when released..one of their very best
good quality, great video, glad to watch a terrific DD tune like this
...
The Simon's voice sound great like the 89's version
Extraordinary, song. I really get this song, too.. Its in the top 10 of all time.. Has to be.. Despite being up against very tough opposition. Its has to be 10th,at least.
Dom Brown developed cowboy-tune-alike for the sound.
Thanks for share.. this is amazing!
A Great Song from the Great Big Think Album. For me is this Song a Nr.1 Hit
OMG goosebumps!

hes still not in the band, officially, only credited whe/if he makes contributions to a particular song.

Does anyone else hear CCR's "Suzie Q" in the melody? omg!
steemdup Yup! And they got nailed for it. Had to change the writing credits to include the writer of Susie Q
Simon is the best. No comparison.
