    That's insanely good top speed. I just rode a 2018 drz 400sm and got to 99 mph fully tucked. Your 6 gear really makes the difference. I'm gonna have to go test ride one of these.

      Yeah I’ve been told the drz400 only hits about 100 also, the biggest things for me were having fuel injection, a rpm gauge, and lighter weight.

    I watched Kenny Roberts crash it over 100 miles an hour and walk away, I’ve seen others crash at 40 miles an hour and get taken to the morgue. Sometimes in a crash speed helps, unless you hit a brick wall and then it doesn’t matter, love your Channel.

    Thanks for this! I've been hesitant to buy one of these because of a lack of power and everybody says the top speed is 65mph, but if I know it can do over 90, that's fine with me. I had a KLR650 that would top out around 95, so this being able to have a similar top speed is a win in my book.

      I own this bike, it’s a 2024 KLX-300SM, when I first got it, it wouldn’t go faster than 76 mph. But within the first 1000 miles the bike felt tight. After 2500 my top speed increased to 83 mph. Today…at 3500 miles it can hit 90 on the freeway flat land. Give it time, it will break in and give you 90 mph. Zero mods, 100% stock with the snorkel too. I took it off and it sounds a little better.

      I've ridden all kinds of bikes, from this little 300 up to 1000cc supersports. I bought this KLX 300 so I could join my buddies in the dirt but it has become my primary ride. Unless I'm going long distances on the highway I take the KLX everywhere. It's a fun bike and has plenty of power to have fun on, it goes anywhere you want, and it doesn't ask you to kill yourself. My 636 was always whispering in my ear, "You pansy... You could take the next turn at twice this speed, just twist the throttle!" It was exhilarating for sure but taking twisties at 90+mph was getting too dangerous. The KLX is happy to take the same roads at 40-50 and will keep me alive longer. :)

  • @blacknight7201

    That 17 inch rear and street tires are giving you lots of torch.
    My klx has 18 inch rear and it cannot cruise at about 70.
    I just did a speed and pinned it for like 5 minutes. It never hit 90. Barely did 89 and couldn’t hold 89.
    The true high speed it would hold constantly was more like 87.

    Dude thats right there with my drz400s wasn't expecting you to break 90, you must not weigh much or it is slightly modded, rode quite a few of those and 83 was all she had, the engine had more room but not enough juice, im thinking you have a flash tune with that exhaust I didn't see any check engine light, I've piped two 300 and the both threw a light, are you fibbing or you only way like 90lbs lol nice though for sure

    • @SALTxTHExWOUND
      @SALTxTHExWOUND  3 роки тому

      lmao No I weigh just over 180 typically, and it only has a slip on exhaust with no tune, It doesn't really need it since I've checked the plugs a few times to confirm it's not running lean. I've ridden the DRZ before and I enjoyed it but the technology is so outdated, the KLX is definitely a peppy little 300! I've seen people break 100 on them but probably weigh in below 140lbs I'd assume.

      @@SALTxTHExWOUND thats what everyone keeps saying I changed all the stuff thats outdated, I like carburetors they are alot more precise you just have to know what you are doing, im a mechanic so I have tools to make sure they have a perfect air fuel ration usually 14 to 1 thereabouts, the fuel delivery they are using on these small dual sport was developed in the 70s and 80s become common place all the way from 85 to 2004, they newest technology is direct injection the system on the 300l and klx essentially a tbi system not overly new. And the dr350se had a six speed wish they carried it to the drz400 but o well. I'm waiting to buy what suzukis new dual sport will be. Can't be far off

      @jessecrawford2711 3 роки тому

      But I do like the klx300 over the 300l by far, seems much more capable and yours must just be special then because I believe you will smoke a 300l for and be side by side a stock 400s probably a little quicker

  • @thinkdunson
    @thinkdunson Рік тому

    a bike engine isn't fully broken in until over 1000 miles, and the main difference is that there's less friction. so i would say, do another top speed run then. i can't say for sure it'll make any difference... that engine might not have as tight of tolerances... but i can say that i feel like there was a difference on my newest bike, a street triple.
    i hit 1000 miles within ten days of buying it (purposely riding a lot to get it broken in quickly). so with such a short time between the first mile and the thousandth, it was still pretty fresh in my mind... and that engine felt like a whole different beast on the tenth day. then again, it could be my imagination, considering i didn't really open it up until then. but just to give it a fair shake, i would suggest doing another run at 1000. even if the top speed is the same, it might be quicker getting there. with less internal friction, you could have one or two more horses somewhere along the power curve. and when we're talking about 30 hp, one or two is actually a significant number.
