Do we need to remember each and every step or can we just say from 5-phosphoribosylamine to IMP is a nine step process requiring Gly, Glu, Asp and a couple of ATPs?

In vasudevan they have mentioned that 1st step i.e,step 0 (where PRPP is synthesized) will not be included in de novo synthesis it will be a preparatory or preliminary step but here u r saying as 11 steps by including that step 0 ?????
