VINCENTIANS FOREVER!!! 🥰 Vincent literally only became a priest because when some priests in his area were getting ordained, he snuck into the line; he succeeded because the bishop was blind! He also suffered from depression; he often wrote how he didn’t feel he had done enough for the poor, and was often said to be very sad. I live in Perryville, Missouri, which was the first place the Vincentians settled after arriving in America!
Mother Angelica used to pray every morning 'come hell or high water I will not lose my temper today' and by 10am hell or high water would arrive!! This really comforts me as I suffer from menopause, and have completely lost control.
I've read a book about Mother Angelica, how I admire her level of courage! 😮 I also had to have surgery which put me in medical menopause, I couldn't control my emotions whatsoever. I was placed on hormone therapy and once they found the right balance for me it made a world of difference. I hope you can get some relief for your own symptoms too. 🙏
Please pray for my temper as well sis. I did 12.5 yrs in prison because of it and although I gave my life to Christ and have learned so much discipline coming back into Holy Mother Church I as well feel I have lost control of it 2 yrs out now dealing with so much stress, oppression and disrespect. I will be praying for you. 🙏🏽💯
As a man with a temper that leaves me guilt stricken every time, and is pursuing holiness as a life mission. You wouldn’t believe how motivational this video was. Thanks again.
Another thing to note is that anger is given to you by God so that you may be upset at the unjust treatment of the innocent, encouraging you to do the right thing
I named my son Vincent for Vincent de Paul. I was part of a Vincent de Paul chapter in Moscow Idaho that was one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. In our chapter we would go over the Mass readings every week in our m and discuss how they are related to our ministry. It was the perfect combination of prayer and action.
Your channel has helped me so much, I have always felt a connection to the Catholic faith but you have helped me connect enough to want to attend mass for the first time this Sunday and to sit down with a priest and beginning my journey into the faith, thank you so much father! ❤
I'm really glad I found this insightful video on the Feast of St. Vincent de Paul. I didn't know much about his life's story with all its twists and turns. He had quite the variety of circumstances in life and gives us a picture of how, in spite of our struggles, to keep striving.
This was a great video! Please keep giving us these stories about saints as real human beings. We are all called to be saints, and it helps hearing that we are not automatically disqualified by our sometimes less-than-perfect temperaments.
We are all called to be saints by answering the call “Come, follow me”. Some are so sanctified in their journey with Christ that they are sanctified by the Church to the highest order and become an inspiration to many on their own journeys to Christ Jesus. As a Catholic, I am so grateful to welcoming the Word being revealed through ordinary men and women.
i do not understand why we, Catholic Christians, have saints. Until i watched videos here on YT on how they lived their lives, realized how amazing God's work through them. More of Saints please!
Nice video. I’d also add that St. Vincent and the Congregation of the Mission were additionally concerned with the seminary training of priests. And of course, there is the Society of St. Vincent de Paul established many years later in honor of Vincent.
Very interesting history. Vincent’s challenging personality was probably exactly what was needed to drive the foundation of these novel-for-the-time organizations. The Lord can use both our strengths and weaknesses to achieve his purposes! Please make more videos on lesser-known heroes and heroines of the faith!
This explains so much! I got help from Saint Vincent de Paul (the organization) years ago and they sent me to a store with a voucher. I tried to take only what I needed. When I got to the check out, the ladies had noticed that I had not used my whole voucher up. They got SO pissed. So I did hat anybody would do eing berrated by an older lady for not taking more than they need. I went back and got more. I look on that with a lot of fondness. I will never forget it.
Props to you for creating this video on St. Vincent's death day. Shares the same day as my birthday, so I always felt a special connection to the Saint.
Went to University on a school run by Vincentians. He was our patron saint, of course, and have buildings named after people linked to st. Vincent de Paul and Louise de Marillac. 🙏
Please Fr. Casey, would you do a video on Holy Trinity? This topic is likely mentioned in many other videos, but none of them focus solely on Trinity in itself... Yet Holy Trinity is the cornerstone of Christian faith and therefore knowing is very crucial

As a retired pastor from a Wesleyan denomination, what strikes me is the many parallels between St. Vincent de Paul and John Wesley - as well as the parallels between the two movements. Wesley also was moved by the lack of ministry and theological education, he also employed laypeople (something that continues in many Wesleyan churches today) and saw to their practical needs as well.
@@sniperpronerfmods9811 Today, generally, the term applies to theologically conservative Protestant/Evangelical Churches in the Methodist tradition, to include organizations such as the Church of the Nazarene, the Free Methodist Church (in which I am ordained), the Wesleyan Church, the new Global Methodist Church and the Salvation Army. Respectfully (I am a cultural Catholic), my impression is that sainthood is reserved for those who do an extraordinary job of bringing Catholicism to various parts of the world and advancing the faith. I am related to someone who has been beatified and will likely be canonized. He was human like anyone else, although clearly a very good person
I asked St. Vincent to speak to me as I go enroll again to a Vincention university/theology school, and then I watched this. I am short-tempered too and the surely way worse than him in sinfulness. I hope to be able to teach the poor in spirit, not just the financially poor by being an educator. Please pray for me, everyone. Thank you and God bless you all!
Once upon a time a certain King gave to His chosen servants the free gift of vast riches to each one. In the process of time men under the pretense of being the King's servants rose up and went to the descendants of the chosen servants saying If you desire to be heirs of the free gift of riches you must follow us to earn those riches and do your part. After following those deceivers, the descendants found they had no inheritance of vast riches and even lost everything they seemed to have. They inquired of the King for their riches. The King said Did not I say my riches were a free gift but you did not believe me neither would you accept it as a free gift instead you worked to earn them not reverencing My Words. Then the King cast the deceivers and descendants into prison for ever. Ephesians 2:8 KJV "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast."
St. Vincent wasn't ordained as 24 years old, but 19 years (born 1581, ordained 1600) - bringing to the ordination the document confirming that he is 24 years old (the necessary age). Vincent also never wanted to create Daughters of Charity - He himself many times denied that the idea come from him or St. Louise. He also tried to follow the God's Will - rather to wait for the sign from God than to be too hasty in good deeds. About his bad temper I heard now for the first time. - He is know to become very humble and meek - capable to collaborate with everyone. I found this information only from one book - from many which were written on this topic. Little know is also his sense of humour which he sometimes used to show on "unspeakable" topic.
While not a saint, there's a blessed I admire for standing up for his faith in Japan during the Sengoku period (or shortly after, not sure). Christians were not allowed to practice their faith, which was all he asked. He eventually took over a castle so that they could practice. When a counter siege began, he and his followers fasted so thoroughly that the leader of the siege began to suspect they were being supplied. But they were betrayed, and in exchange for his life the traitor let the besiegers know how unable they would be to put up any resistance if they were to be taken by storm. They were all martyred. If anyone can find the name of this blessed, I'd appreciate it. Then of course you have Joan of Arc, who famously wasn't exactly a nun either.

The irony is that he wanted money and fame and now he has it. He has the greatest treasure now and there isn’t a place in the world that doesn’t know him or his organization. Also I can relate to him. Even though I’m angry about a lot of things I still think about how I want to serve others and show them god’s love.
God is very funny. He will take your greed and make you desire poverty. He can take your desire to keep Him at arms length and make you desire Him more deeply.
I wonder if "bilious" here really means that he caused people to be sick, or if it means that he was of a choleric temperament caused by an excess of yellow bile.
I think “bilious” and “choleric” are synonymous. Both words describe one of the four tempers, with the others being phlegmatic, sanguine, and melancholic.
Of course he gets pissed off. He's physically and mentally carrying the entire world's weight. He's limited on recourses, staff, transportation and so on, but you can't argue with his results.😅🎉❤
As much as I admire this man, the prospect of waiting and suffering patiently for God is always something I will disagree full stop. There needs to be urgency in alleviating, pain, and suffering.
