How the Gabriel Fernandez doc did not make this list is shocking. I had to force myself through it but it’s truly an important and soul crushing film about child abuse.

I had the pleasure of being in communication with David a while back after I received an email thanking me for ordering his book companion to the movie, Dance with the Devil. 1) He's a very sweet person that should have never had to go thorough this heartache and 2) The book was very lovingly written and I enjoyed it immensely.
As someone who regards the orca as her favorite animal, Blackfish was a HARD documentary to watch. The largest species of dolphin on Earth doesn't belong in a swimming pool.
Two documentaries that people should check out. The first one is “The trials of Gabriel Fernandez” Being a mother it is extremely hard to watch and it broke my heart. The other one is called “The falling man” and that’s about 9/11. Both docs. are really well done.
The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez destroyed me. I kept up with the trials for the gov't agents tasked with his care and protection, and was horrified even more by those results...
You don’t need to be a mother…. I don’t have kids and I couldn’t get through it. It’s the only docuseries I wasn’t able to finish, and not for lack of trying.
I could go thru two more divorces without shedding a tear, but when I see animals hurt by us as humans, it hits me hard and deep. Makes me ashamed to be part of us monsters. Messing with harmless animals who just want to survive by instinct just is so low and cowardly.

The woman that was never there was also very good to watch. It was about a lady that lied about surviving 9/11 and was the face of 9/11 ptsd trauma. Also the mini series about worst places to go to school about kids risking everything for an education.

Moreover, where I've done this a lot before, I have gotten multiple likes and thanks for doing this from viewers who want these countdown channels to post the list in chapters in the description. Given how many times I've been thanked by people on these messageboards for doing this, I'd say you're the one in the minority on this issue.

They posted a countdown of the most influential moments in music history and named Queen's performance at Live Aid as #1 right when the movie about Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, opened in theaters. I would not call that countdown in particular trustworthy.
For us non-Americans 9/11 is mostly of interest only due to the big political changes it brought to the western world. There is pre and post 9/11 because of it. I of course understand it is a terrible moment in history for people in North America, but it's not emotional and "hard to watch" for the rest of the world. Not harder than any other documentary of a single terror attack. For Scandinavians stories of mass murderer/terrorist Anders Behring Breivik who killed 77 people (mostly teens and young adults) and hurt 315 others, in 2011 due to his political views is a bit more triggering. It hits close to home.
I’m so sad everytime I watch a video of top hardest documentaries to watch and NONE of them mention the Trails of Gabriel Fernandez. As some one who has watched many documentaries in all genres, that was the hardest one to watch. I had to pause many times to collect myself and keep watching. The anger and sadness I felt after watching that lingered for a while
The Naudet brothers who documented 9/11 should be on this list. The fact they were with the FDNY pre, during, and post 9/11 will always carry a wave of emotions.

There is one that should be on the list Roger and Me... when General Motors closed down and thousands of people in Detroit lose their jobs.. Detroit ever since then was struggling. The ending where you see the CEO celebrating the holidays with his family and friends and having this Christmas party.. the scenes switches back and forth to ex workers of the plant being evicted from their homes ..in the cold.. and it was many who were being evicted.. I was pissed off, angry, smh 😤
The ending of "Senna" is heartbreaking as you become so attached to a man full of life, his funeral procession and the music accompanying his loved ones viewing his coffin gets me everytime
The theory of the family on The Imposter having something to do with the disappearance of the boy, and thus couldn't just come out and say they knew it wasn't him intrigues me.
The GG Allin documentary directed by Todd Phillips, called "Hated," is pretty intense to watch. Given that it was made RIGHT before GG died, makes it even heavier to experience. The footage of his concerts, the people being interviewed, Todd himself narrating, the grimy late 80s/early 90s film quality. It's a nearly perfect low budget no frills documentary
Letter to Zachary had me in a puddle for about a half hour. Every time I see a picture or hear about it it still breaks my heart. This doc is not listed but pictures of grandparents are shown in introduction.
Waltz with Bashir just had me at the edge of my seat and then I slumped back into it and pretty much froze at the end of it because it just hit me so hard how horrific the Lebanese War was. Any of the documentaries that deal with animal cruelty, I just turn away immediately because, as an animal lover, I just can't stand seeing such innocent creatures in pain. 😢
I forget the name of the documentary but there was one I saw when I was in college where they talked about the us legal system and people with disabilities, especially mental disabilities. They showed how many people with mental disabilities are lied to and coerced into admitting to crimes they had nothing to do with. There was one where the cops told a guy during interrogation if he signed a paper saying he committed a murder he would get to go home. He signed it and they arrested him. In many areas in the past they did this when they were under pressure to close a case. They would just find someone with mental impairments (especially if it was known that the people in the neighborhood were intolerant toward them), pull the old “you fit the description” line, and deceive them into signing a false confession. That way the case was closed, the pressure was off them, the public was satisfied because a perpetrator was in jail, and the cop may even get a commendation. They didn’t care they put a severely impaired person in prison wrongfully. It’s not like the person could be a “valuable member of society”.

The Bridge is a devastating and emotionally draining movie... the few that survived said that the second they jumped, they regretted it. The ending, after following one man through the movie, is a swan dive backwards to the water... brutal
I don't remember the name of this documentary, but I watched it when I was taking a class based around disabilities in college. It was very similar to the listing #7 you had in your video, but it covered a mental hospital that basically served to deprive its patients of any rights they had or could have had, as many of the people inside were children who were barely fed or clothed. It was really hard for us to watch, and some of the other students in the class with me had to leave because of how graphic it was.
Blackfish haunted me. I signed so many petitions afterwards. I will never give SeaWorld a dime of my money. RIP Lolita. The Bridge was incredibly hard to watch. Seeing so many people jump off the Golden Gate Bridge was so sad. Dear Zachary is the saddest film I have ever seen. It was senseless and preventable. So so awful.
It’s pretty interesting in retrospect because while I’m sure they make money still, to my knowledge that documentary pretty much single-handedly ruined most people’s perception of sea world. I know it did for me, I went there once as a little kid way before that shit was revealed and I hardly even remember it but I remember enjoying myself, but obviously I like you and probably most people, haven’t considered giving them a dime once since finding out the truth

I think "They shall not grow old" had to be in this list, it's from the Somme battle and it ONLY contains real images, so the corpses, explosions, etc. are real.

Waltz With Bashir deserved more nominations like Best Original Song Good Morning Lebanon, Best Animated Feature, Best Documentary Feature, Best Director, Best Original Score, Best Sound, Best Film Editing, and Best Picture
Damien Echols was sentenced to death not life like Jason & Jesse. They were released due to an Alford Plea as the Arkansas State Supreme Court had declared they had the right to a new trial. The state to keep from having to pay for a new trial & knowing the WM3 would be found innocent & then be allowed to sue the state for unlawful imprisonment which would be millions of dollars each, instead offered them the plea to save face & allow the men to walk free right then. Jason did NOT want to except but knew it was the only way he could help get Damian off death row.
I’ve seen probably 6 or 7 in this list and the ones that stand out are Waltz with Bashir, The Bridge and Dear Zachary. Dear Zachary was an absolute punch to the throat after a punch to the gut. By the end I was angry, tearful, almost speechless. I cannot bring myself to watch Blackfish or Earthlings.
I'm very surprised "Just, Melvin: Just Evil" isn't on this list. It was the most upsetting documentary I've ever seen. It made me physically sick and wasn't to curl up in a ball and cry in the shower...
I think what made Jonestown so horrible was the fact these absolutely evil “parents” were so genuinely brain dead, they murdered their innocent children and made them die painfully, all bc they were gullible and naive enough to think they were going to some heaven. If it was just the people who drank it themselves it would be sad but self inflicted, the fact the people who didn’t wanna do it got shot, and the countless children who had no wish to be there, is unforgivable. I have to imagine all of them knew in their last moments this wasn’t a path to paradise. Watching their children, their friends and loved ones violently choke and die, while anyone who refuses to drink gets shot down. It’s hard to think they’d be able to think “oh this is what we’ve been waiting for, we’re going to a more beautiful existence” then their last moments were spent in fear, pain and agony. I think it makes me so angry because it isn’t some thing of the past, my cousin was in a cult for about 20 years. Now he’s been out of it for probably just as long, he has two daughters that must be in high school now, and a wife and happy life and successful job. It can happen to almost anyone it seems
“Last Man in Aleppo”, about a group of “White Helmets” working in Syria during the civil war (still going). There were no more rescue teams and disaster relief workers helping people in areas that were being consistently shelled- foreign aid agencies were being kept away and existing civil organizations had ceased to exist. But there are still people going out and trying to help people, aiding evacuations and other emergency movements, rescue work when necessary, and they tend to wear white helmets when they have them. Taking on that role in many areas is an assured death sentence, but they do know that when they die they will have helped others to survive. Fragments of families living in rubble- it’s unreal. The military (I don’t remember which one, but it didn’t matter anymore) was directly targeting civilians; a few hospitals were taken out. There is one man who is sort of set up as the protagonist, but only so far that the documentary makers have someone to follow. He doesn’t make it to the end of the film, of course, but he was “the last man in Aleppo”- as are all the people who stay in these places for the sake of civilians who can’t leave for whatever reason. I’ve managed it twice, bawled my eyes out both times.
Watching the Kalief Browder doc sent me into a Major Depressive state for 3 months. Sad that his story didn't get much recognition when he was alive or even in the end.
Omo child is probably the roughest documentary I’ve ever seen. Modern day ritual sacrifice of babies. I don’t think it gets tougher than that. Can’t believe it’s not on this list. Devil came on horseback, I’d another tough watch. I’ve seen most of these documentaries and both I’ve named deserve a spot.
I do not believe it is "ritual sacrifice of babies." They believe some children will curse the village so they murder them. Obviously this is still horrific, but there is a difference.

Some notable omissions: Free Solo - good movie but extremely hard to watch if you have Acrophobia. Deliver Us from Evil - especially the scenes of Father O'Grady walking around the playground. Emma Wants to Live - to watch Emma's decline in health will destroy you. Zoo - some alternate titles include Horsing Around, 1 Guy 1 Horse and The Horse Whisperer: Special Victims Unit.
Same title you guys have pretty much ran before, but with a few new entries. Rather it's "hard to watch" or "most controversial.". But I'll still watch em. I guess the ones replaced aren't as hard to watch this time.

Also the step father took a lie detector test and after when it was" proven " that he didn't have anything to do with the murders..he bragged about it and was like..", yeah that's for people who accused me of something I didn't do".. I was saying to myself ..this sick SOB... now I'm not trying to down play the south.. many of cases around this country have handled cases so inappropriately where families did not get the justice for their loves ones who were killed brutally. Hardest documentary i ever watched? An autopsy. They sawed the 'Y'-shaped top of the torso to get to the vital organs, and then sawed open the scalp and removed the brain. I was ready to do the technicolor yawn! I was about to toss my cookies! I was about to lose my lunch! 🤮
12 yr ago, during a trip to Costa Rica, I watch a DVD called something like: "El documentario de la muerte"... I can't unwatch this... not a documentary, just videos of lots of differents deaths without blur images... just why....
I heard about that documentary, and I immediately said, "Nope!". I even hugged my precious kitty, who passed away from old age 2 years ago, because he meant so much to me. Also, I'm an animal lover in general, so I would never bring myself to watch these types of documentaries because it physically hurts me to see animals being treated so cruelly.😢
Racing Extinction was super tough on me to watch. A must see. Nature and animal lovers should have tissues readily available....and maybe a punching bag..

Two documentaries that people should check out. The first one is “The trials of Gabriel Fernandez” Being a mother it is extremely hard to watch and it broke my heart. The other one is called “The falling man” and that’s about 9/11. Both docs. are really well done.
The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez destroyed me. I kept up with the trials for the gov't agents tasked with his care and protection, and was horrified even more by those results...
You don’t need to be a mother…. I don’t have kids and I couldn’t get through it. It’s the only docuseries I wasn’t able to finish, and not for lack of trying.
It's crazy because I remember watching live footage that day and seeing a lot of people that jumped to their death...
I could go thru two more divorces without shedding a tear, but when I see animals hurt by us as humans, it hits me hard and deep. Makes me ashamed to be part of us monsters. Messing with harmless animals who just want to survive by instinct just is so low and cowardly.

I’ve had friends that saw the cove and said that it was heartbreaking and extremely hard to watch. I still can’t bring myself to watch it.

For us non-Americans 9/11 is mostly of interest only due to the big political changes it brought to the western world. There is pre and post 9/11 because of it. I of course understand it is a terrible moment in history for people in North America, but it's not emotional and "hard to watch" for the rest of the world. Not harder than any other documentary of a single terror attack. For Scandinavians stories of mass murderer/terrorist Anders Behring Breivik who killed 77 people (mostly teens and young adults) and hurt 315 others, in 2011 due to his political views is a bit more triggering. It hits close to home.
I’m so sad everytime I watch a video of top hardest documentaries to watch and NONE of them mention the Trails of Gabriel Fernandez. As some one who has watched many documentaries in all genres, that was the hardest one to watch. I had to pause many times to collect myself and keep watching. The anger and sadness I felt after watching that lingered for a while
The Naudet brothers who documented 9/11 should be on this list. The fact they were with the FDNY pre, during, and post 9/11 will always carry a wave of emotions.

The ending of "Senna" is heartbreaking as you become so attached to a man full of life, his funeral procession and the music accompanying his loved ones viewing his coffin gets me everytime
The theory of the family on The Imposter having something to do with the disappearance of the boy, and thus couldn't just come out and say they knew it wasn't him intrigues me.

The GG Allin documentary directed by Todd Phillips, called "Hated," is pretty intense to watch. Given that it was made RIGHT before GG died, makes it even heavier to experience. The footage of his concerts, the people being interviewed, Todd himself narrating, the grimy late 80s/early 90s film quality. It's a nearly perfect low budget no frills documentary

Waltz with Bashir just had me at the edge of my seat and then I slumped back into it and pretty much froze at the end of it because it just hit me so hard how horrific the Lebanese War was. Any of the documentaries that deal with animal cruelty, I just turn away immediately because, as an animal lover, I just can't stand seeing such innocent creatures in pain. 😢
I had watched both Jonestown and Blackfish, both were very well put together and had me on edge
I forget the name of the documentary but there was one I saw when I was in college where they talked about the us legal system and people with disabilities, especially mental disabilities. They showed how many people with mental disabilities are lied to and coerced into admitting to crimes they had nothing to do with. There was one where the cops told a guy during interrogation if he signed a paper saying he committed a murder he would get to go home. He signed it and they arrested him. In many areas in the past they did this when they were under pressure to close a case. They would just find someone with mental impairments (especially if it was known that the people in the neighborhood were intolerant toward them), pull the old “you fit the description” line, and deceive them into signing a false confession. That way the case was closed, the pressure was off them, the public was satisfied because a perpetrator was in jail, and the cop may even get a commendation. They didn’t care they put a severely impaired person in prison wrongfully. It’s not like the person could be a “valuable member of society”.
Plea deals are a joke. Next is settling for an "undisclosed" amount, why is it such a big secret?

The Bridge is a devastating and emotionally draining movie... the few that survived said that the second they jumped, they regretted it. The ending, after following one man through the movie, is a swan dive backwards to the water... brutal

I don't remember the name of this documentary, but I watched it when I was taking a class based around disabilities in college. It was very similar to the listing #7 you had in your video, but it covered a mental hospital that basically served to deprive its patients of any rights they had or could have had, as many of the people inside were children who were barely fed or clothed. It was really hard for us to watch, and some of the other students in the class with me had to leave because of how graphic it was.
Blackfish haunted me. I signed so many petitions afterwards. I will never give SeaWorld a dime of my money. RIP Lolita. The Bridge was incredibly hard to watch. Seeing so many people jump off the Golden Gate Bridge was so sad. Dear Zachary is the saddest film I have ever seen. It was senseless and preventable. So so awful.
It’s pretty interesting in retrospect because while I’m sure they make money still, to my knowledge that documentary pretty much single-handedly ruined most people’s perception of sea world. I know it did for me, I went there once as a little kid way before that shit was revealed and I hardly even remember it but I remember enjoying myself, but obviously I like you and probably most people, haven’t considered giving them a dime once since finding out the truth

Damien Echols was sentenced to death not life like Jason & Jesse. They were released due to an Alford Plea as the Arkansas State Supreme Court had declared they had the right to a new trial. The state to keep from having to pay for a new trial & knowing the WM3 would be found innocent & then be allowed to sue the state for unlawful imprisonment which would be millions of dollars each, instead offered them the plea to save face & allow the men to walk free right then. Jason did NOT want to except but knew it was the only way he could help get Damian off death row.

I think what made Jonestown so horrible was the fact these absolutely evil “parents” were so genuinely brain dead, they murdered their innocent children and made them die painfully, all bc they were gullible and naive enough to think they were going to some heaven. If it was just the people who drank it themselves it would be sad but self inflicted, the fact the people who didn’t wanna do it got shot, and the countless children who had no wish to be there, is unforgivable. I have to imagine all of them knew in their last moments this wasn’t a path to paradise. Watching their children, their friends and loved ones violently choke and die, while anyone who refuses to drink gets shot down. It’s hard to think they’d be able to think “oh this is what we’ve been waiting for, we’re going to a more beautiful existence” then their last moments were spent in fear, pain and agony. I think it makes me so angry because it isn’t some thing of the past, my cousin was in a cult for about 20 years. Now he’s been out of it for probably just as long, he has two daughters that must be in high school now, and a wife and happy life and successful job. It can happen to almost anyone it seems
“Last Man in Aleppo”, about a group of “White Helmets” working in Syria during the civil war (still going). There were no more rescue teams and disaster relief workers helping people in areas that were being consistently shelled- foreign aid agencies were being kept away and existing civil organizations had ceased to exist. But there are still people going out and trying to help people, aiding evacuations and other emergency movements, rescue work when necessary, and they tend to wear white helmets when they have them. Taking on that role in many areas is an assured death sentence, but they do know that when they die they will have helped others to survive. Fragments of families living in rubble- it’s unreal. The military (I don’t remember which one, but it didn’t matter anymore) was directly targeting civilians; a few hospitals were taken out. There is one man who is sort of set up as the protagonist, but only so far that the documentary makers have someone to follow. He doesn’t make it to the end of the film, of course, but he was “the last man in Aleppo”- as are all the people who stay in these places for the sake of civilians who can’t leave for whatever reason. I’ve managed it twice, bawled my eyes out both times.
Watching the Kalief Browder doc sent me into a Major Depressive state for 3 months. Sad that his story didn't get much recognition when he was alive or even in the end.

Omo child is probably the roughest documentary I’ve ever seen. Modern day ritual sacrifice of babies. I don’t think it gets tougher than that. Can’t believe it’s not on this list. Devil came on horseback, I’d another tough watch. I’ve seen most of these documentaries and both I’ve named deserve a spot.

@@welcometothemovies9157 exactly.. my sister was the first who saw the documentary and she told me about Paradise Lost.. in our conversation she constantly talked about the step father and you can tell something wasn't right about this guy.. he constantly was on these 3 young boys, it's like was trying to get the heat off of him.. even though nobody suspected that he could of been the murderer. Arkansas 🙄🙄🙄... smh... watching this documentary.. these young boys and the teens boys who were accused..really didn't have a good chance. I didn't like the parents of the murdered boys.. Hardest documentary i ever watched? An autopsy. They sawed the 'Y'-shaped top of the torso to get to the vital organs, and then sawed open the scalp and removed the brain. I was ready to do the technicolor yawn! I was about to toss my cookies! I was about to lose my lunch! 🤮

I heard about that documentary, and I immediately said, "Nope!". I even hugged my precious kitty, who passed away from old age 2 years ago, because he meant so much to me. Also, I'm an animal lover in general, so I would never bring myself to watch these types of documentaries because it physically hurts me to see animals being treated so cruelly.😢
Racing Extinction was super tough on me to watch. A must see. Nature and animal lovers should have tissues readily available....and maybe a punching bag..
