    They look like my first kit, a blue sparkle CB700, which was made by Pearl. Played the kit proudly for 15 years until I got my Ludwigs. They sound pretty damn good with good heads and tuning.

    It's an mij kit from the late 60's - 70's. I used to have one the same color. The Tom mount system was bad, so I switched it out for Tama style ratchet L style mounts on a stand. I think that's what happened here.

    Wow! What a deal. I paid $300 this past summer for the kit I just "restored." If it hadn't been my childhood drum kit bought from a long time friend, I wouldn't have paid that much. I actually got a couple of my ideas for how to clean my hardware from one of your videos! If you care to check out my short restoration video on that vintage "Majestic DeLuxe" kit, It's on my channel. It was my first attempt at trying a restoration. I made it for my middle school students.

    Maxwing 1973. Very thin drumshells sick in the studio! Not a live kit as it could crack with the age. Soak it in lemon oil and let it rest.

    @ rdavidr Consider assembling a superset, a huge set with triple basses, multiple rows of shell toms with each row tuned differently, various sized floor toms on both sides of your throne, etc. RotoToms add a lot, timbales, etc. Build a one acre set!

  • @TheNevermind1313

    I'd like to see you re-wrapping the kit, in blue sparkle, and kinda upgrading it with "more proper" mount. Wrapping would cover the old holes and this would be sexy "concert tom" kit.

    good job finding a stencil kit. I picked up a "Norma"-badged stencil kit that was in mint condition for $150. I use it for a practice kit, and if my band does live acoustic gigs.

    • @drumsNstuff79
      @drumsNstuff79 8 років тому

      An old friend of mine bought himself a stencil kit from the late '60's. teal sparkle wrap, and had this cheesy low tech double tom mount. We never knew the brand, it had no badges! The snare stand was a recent and nice modern one, I don't remember the brand. But the snare was an old well kept Ludwig Supraphonic and the bass pedal was a Ludwig speed king! How cool is that! He paid a bit for it all , I don't remember how much, but it had a cool rounded bearing edge jazzy sound with coated heads on it. I used it once at band practice with him and it was fun. I told him the snare and pedal were super cool, but not too valuable, but desirable. I think he'd have rather had them be valuable.. lol.. he was a guitarist though.. pfft! I lost traded him my pedal for that Speed king!

    This is one sweet kit! Perhaps, you could just get it in the good shape and sell for how much you can get or it. I'd really want it not to be drilled, cut or anything else - it's just so nice as is, just needs taking care of, got that vintage vibe. Also, could you make a video comparison on the kits you have with same mics and tuning (same heads would also be nice)? Would be dope!

  • @AndyPutt1

    Great kit. I'm looking for a kit like this for small venues with very live rooms that need a heavily muted kit for definition in funk gigs. And stuff paying what people are asking for old USA made kits.

    David, the tom mounts were from another kit. these are probably from the early 80's. The lugs are the same lugs Pearl used on their Japanese kits. The shells look like Philippine mahogany.
    The Pearl factory actually made other drums under different names. Apollo, Maxwin, etc.
    That's a sweet little kit. especially for the price.
    Keep rockin!

    Man $30 for that kit is better than some of the deals I've gotten, i almost bought a Tama Rockstar 4 piece shell pack for $74 at a thrift shop but i chose to hold off and i got new heads for my current kit which paid off because now it sounds better than I imagined. I got some Remo Pinstripe's for my 12,16 toms and then a 22in Fiber Skin reso kick and a brand new Tama (remo powerstroke) batter for $40. I wanted that Rockstar for the Wood drum hoops but i didn't really want to stop using my 80's Tama Swingstar cream colored 8x12 rack tom that i got for $25! Maybe I'll rewrap the black floor tom and bass drum but for the mean time I'm just playing music in the garage with my son. If anyone wants to hear original pop punk or 90's style emo you can look at my "band practice" Playlist, it's all instrumental and sometimes it's guitar (my son) and drums (me) or guitar (son), bass(me) and drums (my little brother)

      Jason Watkins that's what I think it is too. Just brought one for £10 but in much worse condition but the fittings are exactly the same. Chrome snare isn't too bad though, still a bargain. These shells are maroon and are in super condition (best part of the kit luckily) it would have been a stunning looking kit in its day.
