    You have finally made it to the point in season 5 that Jeff and Brent are desperate to reach: B5 without Byron. This is where it starts to get better.

    I agree, Talon is GREAT!
    I've always LOVED the touch of Talon (a dangerous, elite, Narn swordmaster) actually nervously backed away from G'kar's outrage when he told him about how they "liberated" his book!
    That always struck me as a wonderfully subtle bit of physical humor.

      Yes! Ta'lon is great! and yes, a great scene with those two. Love it! "A few ... hundred ... thousand...." ... I chuckle every time.

    That moment when Ta'Lon told G'Kar he was now a religious icon brought me back HARD to G'Kar's season 1 speech: "No-one here is exactly what he appears. Not Mollari. Not Delenn. Not Sinclair. And not me." If you think back.... EVERY character on this show transforms into something else as the show progresses - which was JMS's point, because that reflects real life (but just a wee bit more dramatically here lol)
    G'Kar was a buffoon at first. Then he was a heroic war leader. Then he had an epiphany or two and renounced war, and finally became an EXTREMELY reluctant religious figure. To me, he's the best character in the entire show.

    It's only really the first half of season 5 and the telepath stuff that sucks. It's setup for a war that we don't get to see on screen. The only good thing it does is to establish Lyta's path in the whole thing. I seem to recall that the justification for doing it was essentially that real life doesn't have convenient conclusions occurring at five year intervals so why should fiction, hence we get the start of that particular arc with no middle or end.

    I'd like to see a competent fan edit of the first 11 episodes of season 5 that cuts it down to under 2 hours. It would have some semblance of story flow at the very least.

    • @yavarmoradi9331
      @yavarmoradi9331 Місяць тому

      Yeah, it’s frustrating that you can’t really skip those entirely because of The Long Night of Londo Mollari and bits and pieces of great Londo/G’Kar stuff (ie their initial time on Centauri Prime, the regent, rescuing Na’Toth, etc.)
      Needs an edit as you suggest with the best stuff still retained… except for Bester, sadly; don’t see how he can be pulled out from the Byron storyline. Think he’s stuck in it unfortunately.

    I cannot stand Byron, but I do re-watch Season 5... for Lochley and Bester. Zoot Zoot
    It took us until Season 5 to get a character to call Garibaldi on his BS. I will always be grateful for that with Lochley.
    Byron makes Bester look sympathetic, and Bester makes Byron, well, barely tolerable - particularly when Bester puts Byron in his place.

    35:09 be careful what you say. Admitting out loud that you have 20 bottles in the cabinet could label you an alcoholic. My parents can polish of an entire bottle of wine between the two of them. They would not consider themselves “alcoholics”. My grandmother would. Because she drinks one glass every 6 months. We only have one of two bottles in the fridge/pantry @ a time, & only when we’re going to use them.

      Alcohol is another of those things Americans are weirdly hyper-prudish about. I lived in Boston for a year and having three beers on a night out was considered by some people I knew as bordering on dangerous alcoholic binge drinking. In Europe or AU/NZ that's just getting warmed up lol. And there's nothing even remotely weird about having a wine or spirits collection in most of the world. One bottle of wine shared between two adults is problematic? lol no

It's one of those things that, having seen it once, I can't see it again. On the whole I really like season 5. I agree it's weaker than seasons 2 through 4 and is on a par with season 1 but it's eminently watchable up to the final episode that is.

      Sheridan's dismissal of Lyta always felt strang, as well. A lot could have been avoided if he had offered her a job as the official teep of B5. Back when they went independent.
