Dave, your work is amazing and extremely entertaining. You are truly a skilled craftsmen. Thank you for being such a wonderful personality in the world of Model Railroading.
I have struggled with my foam putty application technique, but I think your stick and wet brush method will solve my issues there. Thanks for sharing this awesome build.
Awesome isn't a strong enough word to describe this Dave! Can't wait for the next installments & I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished project. Thanks for sharing.
Dave, great effect on the river. Have you experimented on using something like Mod Podge to give some clear texture to the river? Don’t know if there would be too much distortion of the images.
It looks so cool Dave that I want to take a ride on Gruesome Gulch! It would be neat to make a video that was from a rider perspective. Like a ride at Disneyland in On30.
Believe it or not but there is a company that makes model train cars with cameras built into them for that purpose I just forget who they are but they do make them in on 30 scale
Before you said "green paint", I definitely thought that the green color was coming from a bright light 😂 I loved the first half of this series, now I'm also loving this half. Can't wait to see it 100% complete!
Dave! I love love love this! It also inspired an idea for you to perhaps, entertain. Remember on Pirates of the Caribbean when Davey Jones was projected into the "waterfall" in the tunnel? A vap scene with a projected image comes to mind👻👍
Wasn't there something like a river of lost souls in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade under the library? To add to the spookiness, lightning and thunder effects would add a wonderful touch to the scene. 😎
Hello from India I am a subscriber of your channel and dabble in making dioramas and such purely for fun. I mostly do paper modeling, scratch builds. I love your workmanship, artistic talent and ingenuity. In this build there was a lot of complex effort and money involved in getting the illuminated animated river. When i followed the amazon link to the projector i find its not available either. So, if i were to try for same effect, what i would do, is use an old LED/LCD TV which is capable of playing video/powerpoint directly from a flash drive, and lay it flat to use as riverbed instead of the ground acrylic sheet you have used. Firstly it would save me a TON of money and secondly lot of complex building of backlight and projector holder etc would be avoided. The TV can even be installed in such a way that it could be taken out and used for other purposes when the trains were not running in Gruesome Gulch.. Would appreciate it if you take a moment to comment about my idea of using a TV screen here.
Howdy Dave; I love King(man) Caliginous of Cadaver Cavern so much I am changing the start of my layouts Phase 3 rebuild. Phase 3 was supposed to by from Virginia South to Daytona, FA. So since "Virginia Is For 💖'ers" I had thought of just doing trackage behind a nude beach. With Noch & Prieser's figure collection of naked sunbathers. That always seemed to be a cheap out to me. So about 30 mins. prior to your posting alert ("be sure to hit that little bell icon for notifications of all "Dave's" updates") I received a blast of the new Busch Garden Williamsburg dark ride "DarKastle". That gave me an idea to use this diorama as my homage to all the theme park dark rides. Moving up the layout's peninsula from the Washington, D.C. model the trains will cross the Potomac into VA. Immediately it will confront your King(man) Caliginious. Descend 4" to 6", almost below benchwork level. The train will weave back and forth through Efteling, "D" Haunted Mansion's Madam Leota, Jurassic Park's charging T-rex, Indy Jones rolling polder, A REAL underwater rail track Yes you read right. A DCC powered track which will run under real water. We did it before.at the Albany, NY Great Train Show. And I still have many of the elements in a box somewhere. Exiting the water chased by "Jews'" "Bruce". I'm thinking of doing the "D" floating candelabra with Scooby Doo, & Shaggy Rogers reaching through an infinity mirror effect, A magicians proprioceptive drift. With The Puppet Master as Pepper's Ghost. Finally leaving Virginia while passing the Hitchhiking Ghosts +1. Namely a ghostly Uncle Walt. Thanks for the idea. You may have enhanced and saved my Middle Atlantic U.S. layout. Jim in N.Y.
Starting at the wrong end is best understood after you have done it. Too bad you can't work some "blood red" into some of the rock cracks as if the rock near the river of lost souls were bleeding. I love the "Galloping Hearse".
A most impressive effect, Dave. Excellent work and, as usual, an excellent tutorial. Do you think one of those projectors could be used to have moving clouds on a blank, blue layout backdrop? Cheers from Wisconsin!
Nice special effects. What do you think of using a second projector and weaving the projections together to spread out the effects to more of the river ?
Lol I used that phantasm effect with a micro projector for a haunted house...they wanted to know how I did it....I told them I imprisoned the demonic residue with magic...took them 2 yrs to figure out my secret
Perfect choice for a spectral green ectoplasm color to highlight the pewter grey!
Some of the most amazing visual effects I have seen to date. Looking forward to seeing how Cadaver Caverns progresses.
The part under his nose and his nose form something similar to a skull. Quite interesting but probably not intentional. Nice colours too.
Wow😮!!! This is great!!🚂👻😈🖤
Looks good enough to be a ride at Disney.......kinda a combo of Calico and haunted mansion!!
Imagineres need to take notes from thunder Mesa. Long live splash mountain ⛰️ 🙏
Fantastic!!
Amazing ! Thanks Dave!
Fantastic.
Awesome, thank you for taking time to show this.
This is your best effect yet, Dave! Well done!
Absolutely fantastic!
I just have no words for your work Dave. I am awestruck by your imagineering.
Castle Grayskull looks great. My 1980s childhood loves it.
I must say that is one of the best Special Effects, I have seen in any modelling. Looking forward to the next stage.
Totally awesome... Great effect. 👍
That turned out really awesome!
Dave, your work is amazing and extremely entertaining. You are truly a skilled craftsmen. Thank you for being such a wonderful personality in the world of Model Railroading.
Thank you so much
This just looks absolutely amazing!
Once again, another great job I have to admit you take your model railroading to a level of accuracy and detail. I am very impressed.
Reminds me of the rock king in Return to Oz 😎😎
I have struggled with my foam putty application technique, but I think your stick and wet brush method will solve my issues there. Thanks for sharing this awesome build.
That is incredible! Bravo, sir!
So cool! Thanks for sharing!
spooky ! ! !
That is badass. Fantastic! For the first time in my life, I wanted a train to get out of the way.
I think I heard you Say you had worked for Disney? It shows!!!
Magnifique comme à chaque fois ... Juste effrayant pour frissonner de bonheur ...
Well done, Master! I have learned a lot from your painting technics.👍
Very impressive.
Awesome isn't a strong enough word to describe this Dave! Can't wait for the next installments & I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished project. Thanks for sharing.
This layout is amazing. It’s like a cross between a railroad, a diorama and a theme park. Amazing! Walt Disney would have employed you on the spot!
Well done Sir. The a fix are awesome wish I had that kind of talent. Can't wait to see the next step.
GOD BLESS 🚂💖💀💖👻💖
You may have outdone yourself Dave! Incredible!
Mr. face reminds me of Chernabog from Fantasia. Awesome scene for the railroad’s story. Always fun to watch Dave!
WOW! I don't really know what else to say.
Other than can't wait to see whats next.
you have realy out done your self with this scene. good grief your skills are bonkers crazy level.
You truly have a gift and an amazing eye for details. This was one of my more favorite projects you have done.
Dave, great effect on the river. Have you experimented on using something like Mod Podge to give some clear texture to the river? Don’t know if there would be too much distortion of the images.
So darn awsome! Great work.
Very cool Dave, love those cadaver caverns. Beautiful lighting effects, great idea to use such a tiny projector.
Wonderful work Dave. Have always admired your artistic and creative abilities and translation of these into a reality.
It looks so cool Dave that I want to take a ride on Gruesome Gulch! It would be neat to make a video that was from a rider perspective. Like a ride at Disneyland in On30.

This was so fun to watch & the result is great!
Absolutely amazing effects! Thanks for sharing step by step commentary. Very inspirational, please keep it up

Now you need to add a smoke machine, and get another projector to project onto that ;-)
Precisely. Was thinking this as well!
