As much as I like this series, i have to admit this episode in particular felt a bit rushed. No listing the individual special moves on screen along with an explanation of the move, not a lot of lab footage, and the relativley brief explanations left me feeling a bit dissapointed. I reccomend in the future that you value taking your time with an episode over getting it out as soon as you can. The little things matter, and you should simply take your time with all of the competitive histories. Trust me, we are willing to wait. Have a good day.

Smoke, Goro, Stryker, Ermac, and Tanya were the only characters that never came back. Not even as revenants.

I think I am the only one here who likes Cyber Demon Smoke from MK Deception/Armageddon.
Especially of how he is kinda of a grappler in MKA
I want them split up into different characters kinda like how Frost kinda took on the Cyber Sub role. Human Smoke can be, as he calls himself in the MKX story cutscenes, “Enenra,” and cyborg Smoke carries on the Smoke name.
It feels good being a Smoke fan and knowing he's always been a consistently great character to play. MK9 is peak Smoke for me. They absolutely nailed his moveset in that game. Funnest character I've ever played in any MK.
Is that the game where you could chain smoke bomb drops to an insane degree with meter?

@emilianocarnaya1602 To be honest, I personally don't find Smoke in MK1 nearly as fun to play as he was in MK9 or even MKX with Triborg's Smoke variation. His Smoke Toward/Away and his Smoke Bombs from MK9 & MKX are gone, and that's a HUGE bummer for me because that's what I loved about him. He's not a bad character in MK1 at all. He's just not as fun as to play, IMO.
And now he's Top Tier in MK1 😄

I have NEVER clicked onto a video so quickly.
Smoke has been one of my all-time favorite characters. His design, appearance-wise, is awesome sauce. His offense? Ridiculously high. I loved him in MK3/UMK3 & MK9. Smoke & Reptile were my top five favorite characters in MK9 in particular. The others being Nightwolf, Stryker & Sektor.
I'm wondering if he will ever return in the series. Smoke, I mean.

I would love to see a video on Sonya. I find it very interesting how she went from top 1 to bottom tier in Mk11 without major nerfs, just a shift in the meta.
I never played 11 much but I thought she did get hit by major nerfs. 50 health removed, the ex up punch not launching nerfed her damage loads, and increased damage scaling when cancelling amplified energy ring. She was hit pretty hard I think.
Those two little nerfs plus buffs to the rest of the cast totally killed her utility.
Yeah, the health nerf for sure. I just don’t think the damage nerf was a big deal at all, she’s still doing 36% 1 bar midscreen.
And her zoning is very good.
I ultimately think people realized that it’s almost always worth it to mash on her, because her mids do no damage. And it makes her kinda frustrating to play.
Alongside those changes everyone mentioned when customs were opened up do many characters got boosted by it. Shang Tsung already got good variations but with custom variations his options expanded immensely. Meanwhile Sonya was pigeonholed into her standard one but unlike others it was because it was all she had versus say others where their base meta build was just very competent at covering their needs.

MK9 was really peak for alot of fan favorites. I wish I could get the nostalgia of playing it all over again like if it was my first time. Smoke, the Krypt oni jump scare, the phenomenal story... :)

Another character that I've always liked, especially in his Cyborg version. Smoke is truly a cool character and his competitive history fits his coolness factor.
I’d love to see Jax covered. He’s an iconic character that’s had an impressive history you wouldn’t quite expect from the guy who started off as just a normal dude fighting wizards warlords and ninjas.
Not a competitive player, but I really enjoy these series! Hope Liu Kang gets some attention soon!
Smoke certainly had the most identity in MK9.
I'm putting in my vote for Sub-Zero and Kitana to be featured in Competitive History.
I once learned a fake slap for stage fighting that looked just like MK9 Smoke's launcher combo. When I realized it, I showed my instructor how the deadly stage slap won tournaments. Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! lol

I can remember being at our state fair around 1996 or 1997. I was 13 and was watching these older kids play. Seeing Smoke get unlocked was mind blowing.
Robot Smoke's Mk3 fatality was his blows up the freaking earth is my favorite.

I really like when these histories include vanilla MK3. It’s obvious that Ultimate is a better, more complete version of the game, but as someone who was there in 1995, it’s difficult to overstate just how mind blowing MK3 was when it was brand new in arcades.
I actually liked the 'RUN' button.
whenever MK9 came out, it took me like a solid year of casual play to master Smoke, The cheer violations I my friends suffered at my hands caused me to have to use randomizer because they thought it was too unfair lol. Core memory right there. (we were like 10-11).

Man, MKX is well designed game. Imagine mkx with mk11 graphics...
Mkx still looks great but yeah, mk11 should have built even further on the mk9/X engine instead of making everything slower

@@necefovismayil story wise no since Kuai Liang (younger Sub-Zero) was not in MK1 but his older brother Bi-Han utilizing the title until his death then getting resurrected as a shadow wraith.

MK9 made me absolutely ADORE Smoke. By far my all-time favorite character from the series. I would play Expert Arcade Ladder with him often. Also human Smoke is way cooler than Cyber Smoke.

Smoke has always been one my personal favorites both human and cyber ninja the dude was broken from the beginning his sheer character physiology was made just that he’s smoke easily evadable strong Grabs and his fatalities are always standout love this dude

MK9 Smoke is one of the funnest characters ever in an MK game. The resets, the counter-zoning, the fact you could change your gameplan on the fly by being evasive and slippery, he was one of the best redesigns by far.

I feel lucky to have lived the golden era where me and my friends argue for what game is the best, street fighter or mk? Always prefer mk, playin mk 1 2 3 with arcade machine and love the saga,fall in love with smoke since he was peekin behind the tree in the forest, first time i used the cyborg i immediatly know thet he is my favorite one, still playin mk trilogy with friends and still use him, i have his picture from the ending photo of mk 3 tattooed on my arm. Truly my favorite one, to this day i struggle to compare another characther. Great video💀

Robot Smoke was my GUY back in the MK3 days.. One of the best entry characters for a video game of all time.. He had some of the easiest combos.. I remember one of his fatalities being harder to pull off than his combos and launchers.. I ALWAYS introduce Robot Smoke for new players trying to learn the game

In my personal play group we considered mk9 smoke to be 2nd best behind kung lao. Kung Lao just seemed to just make things happen through button mashing and we found smoke's kit hard to deal with
Smoke is pretty much my MK9 main. I'm still learning juggling, but he's the easiest character to do it with. His combos are so satisfying to pull off and he is the first character I beat Expert Mode with.

Unpopular opinion.
I do like Smoke's cyber demon appearance in MK Deception/Armageddon.
I like the idea of his body being made of actual smoke.
In fact, his unused ending in MKD explains why he got that appearance.
I hope you do a competitive history of raiden and shang tsung soon.

MK3 was my first mk and first fighting game when I was like 4 or 5. I played it endlessly trying to unlock smoke and unlocked a fight with him once mashing random buttons on the Kombat code screen. I thought I had to win a certain number or matches or beat the ladder on hard to fully unlock him
very nice video! subzero next, please. i always thought subzero is mid or high-mid tier, but not the best in EVERY game. but you said he was high tier in mk3 vanilla and now im interested
Problem with Subzero is that he is in literally every Mortal Kombat game so the video would take ages to make

8:30 - 8:34 I just noticed Ketchup is using the GameCube version for footage here; note the training mode control notations.
While it lacked online play, the GameCube had bonus characters for its version of Deception. It was the first time you could play as Shao Kahn in a 3d MK.
