- The annual West of England Bandsmen's Festival held at Bugle in Cornwall on Saturday, 15th June, 2013.
The majority of bands taking part in the contest march along Fore Street in the village to the contest location in Molinnis Park.
It was fortunate that the weather stayed fine during the day as the main contest is held in the open air, although there was a strong wind blowing which didn't make it easy on the stand!
Bands marching are:
Roche Brass, Swindon Pegasus, Tadley Concert, Egham, Heyl Town, Lanner & District,
St. Austell and the 2012 champions St. Dennis.
It's interesting to note the difference in tempo between Tadley Concert (playing Carnival King, a lesser known Rimmer march) and Egham bands and also check out the young lad carrying the board for Heyl Town - always in step!
See Part 3 for the bands marching in the evening after the contest.
Thanks very much for putting this up by the way, I used to be a regular at Bulge back in the 1970s.
It's called the Lanner Falcon, adapted from a piece Goff Richards wrote for the band nearly 20 years ago. Smart band on the road and worthy winners on the stand!
Only my second visit but it's a very special day with a unique atmosphere!
My first Bugle contest and I just had to forget my bass strap didn't I...
Peter, couldn't help notice!!! I thought you were incredibly brave to do that march on BBb without a strap - longer arms by the end??? It was my second Bugle - what a great atmosphere, just unique!
Take one camera mister,it's simpler than two of said winding devices
What March does Lanner play?
