One of the most recognizable musical symbols of the city of Sarajevo is the song "Kad ja pođoh na Bembašu”/ ”When I went to Bembaša". She is known to many as a sevdalinka - an urban/city song about unrealized love from a bygone era. What is less well known is that this song has its roots in Sephardic, Jewish music, whose melos influenced multilayered and multinational Bosnian melos. The fact is that this tune was created much earlier and that the Sephardim brought it first to Constantinople/Istanbul and then to some provinces of the Ottoman Empire and then transmitted it further to the settling countries. It was sung in Sephardic synagogues and is still sung today as part of Psalm 118 (Mizmor le David) from "Allel" which is part of the prayer, and also part of the Haggadah for Pesah, as well as the spiritual songs "El dio alto". The secular tune "Mi kerido, mi amado" has the same melody as "Kad ja pođoh na Bembašu" and is evidence of the mutual intertwining of traditions and cultures in this area.
Jedan od najprepoznatljivijih muzičkih simbola grada Sarajeva je pjesma "Kad ja pođoh na Bembašu". Mnogima je poznata kao sevdalinka - urbana/gradska pjesma o neuzvraćenoj ljubavi iz nekih prošlih vremena. Ono što je manje poznato je da ova pjesma ima svoje korijene u sefardskoj, jevrejskoj muzici, čije su melodije uticale na višeslojni i multinacionalni bosanski melos. Činjenica je da je ova melodija nastala mnogo ranije i da su je Sefardi donijeli prvo u Carigrad /Istanbul, potom u neke provincije Osmanskog carstva, a zatim prenosili dalje u druga mjesta naseljavanja. Pjevana je i danas se izvodi u sefardskim sinagogama kao dio psalma 118 (Mizmor le David) iz „Allel“ koji je dio molitve, a takođe je dio Hagade za Pesach, kao i duhovne pjesme „El dio alto ”. Svjetovni napjev "Mi kerido, mi amado" ima istu melodiju kao "Kad ja pođoh na Bembašu" i primjer je međusobnog prepletanja tradicija i kultura na ovom području.
