Growing up with Halo, Star Wars and Bionicle in the early 2000s was a fun time!

I really wish that LEGO had put more faith in this Bionicle Game Project.
The original idea for the Bionicle game was insane. It was supposed to originally allow you to start as Tahu, you'd go on quests across the Wahi to help find the other Toa to unlock new Wahi and protect Matoran from rahi and the Bohrok minibosses. Eventually you'd fight your way to the Bohrok queens, transform into the Toa Nuva, and then all new levels and sections of the game would open up. More difficult enemies like the Rahkshi and Bohrok-Kal would've been introduced as mini bosses. And you would've worked to help uncover the mystery of the Mask of Light. The Nuva part of the game was supposed to be more of the tie-in game that was gonna be attached to the movie as eventually you would've discovered that Takua is the Toa of Light. He would be unlocked and used for the final quest of finding Makuta's Lair, defeating him and awaken Mata-Nui.
The game that got released did use some of these mechanics, like rahi basic enemies, rescuing matoran as objectives and all of the other obvious. but you can tell that there was A LOT of cut content thanks to what I think were technical issues and not getting enough time or money from their contractors at LEGO. The game had insane potential and probably would've been amazing if it had been given the time to bake. But thankfully Masks of Power will be entering the open alpha pretty soon!

You’re a champ for playing through this, I thought it was a bad game. It looks nice sitting next to my Bionicle gen 1 figures though.

When cereal used to leave pc game discs in their boxes. I got to play quite a few different games and one of them was bionicle. A simple side scrolling platformer. This was around the early 2000s

I remember this game with a great amount of fondness. Although I saw some of the flaws (particularly the length), I was such a Bionicle nerd, I couldn't resist it. Suppose would still be enjoyed mainly because of nostalgia. Nice review BTW!

    Hi mate, Greeting from Australia.
I just wanted to thank you for all you that you do here keeping the original Xbox and 360 alive.
I recently picked up The Suffering and The Suffering Ties that bind for original Xbox as well as Fear 3, Fear Files and Fall of Cybertron on disc for 360
A lot of this has to do with following your recommendations on this channel and the disillusionment of current generation games and just how much love without politics was put into these old games.
Plus I needed to find a more affordable hobby than Lego collecting as that had got completely out of hand as in over $20;000 spent in less than 6 months :(.
The only upside is many of the sets went up in value.

Looks like a game with a fantastic atmosphere, concept & environments, held back by the execution, duration & controls.
It’s a shame, but at the same time fantastic from an inspiration perspective. I’ll keep this one saved for future reference as a game designer! 😁✨

Not that it would make me play it but I appreciate the art of it, for being a distinct departure from the toy designs in a way that has its own appeal. And a much cooler adaptation than the also toy aesthetic abandoning look in the concurrent home video movies in my opinion

I remember the figures being pretty good, but I always thought that the media associated with them and the marketing were pretty naff.
Best bit of the toys was Frankensteining them to make something original using the best parts from the different kits.
Maybe I just have a general aversion to fantasy worlds based around colour coded elements of the natural world.
It's all a bit Captain Planet, but at least him and his crew of ethnically diverse teenagers would go litter picking and try and prevent the spread of misinformation about HIV in between firing magic out of their rings

There are only seven Toas you play as and not eight. It would be great if we could fight against all six Bohrok and Rahkashis. I wonder if there are anymore Rahi foes than just what you go up against. What kind animal are each of the Rahis suppose to be like?

I'd say the game is decent. It's best enjoyed by Bionicle fans as a quick casual playthrough if you're getting an itch for a Bionicle game, the story is terrible because it was rushed to coincide with the release of the Mask Of Light movie. But if you already know the lore it's alright as it covers the general basics of the first 3 years of the story, though it certainly wouldn't fit anywhere in the canon due to the Rakshi being exclusive to the movie and not appearing befor the movie liek the game portrays. But overall a fun and decent short game to play for fans of Bionicle, it's got enough veriety to the levels and memorable locations. Though it would have been better if they had fleshed it out a bit more. You can really see the disconnect in the story with Kopaka's level over and suddenly they turn into the Toa Nuva, then Gali's level immediatly leads right into Pohatu, Onua, and Lewa due to the Rakshi appearing in the last 2. Then right into the Tahu Nuva and Takanuva vs Makuta final level.
