VS is now owned by pure fishing, it will be interesting to see the outcome in new reels produced. The slammer and authority are the best reels Penn has ever made, so combining some excellent technologies should produce some really nice gear. Absolutely love my slammer 5500bls, and at 40% off from J&h, it was a no brainer for $129
I'm converting my Penn and Mitchell beech reels to bailless. I've lost enough gear to bails. Your video made it look like a very good gear configuration.
Turtle cove is rough. Go to browns by the cliffs. A bit calmer. Or actually Hither hills is a better spot. Fish fresh cut bunker at night for a 50 lber. Got many of them there
@@rainsong7327 it’s to balance the rod. That’s all personal preference and you can always add weight to the butt of the rod. Shimano actually has a surf rod that has adjustable weights.
@@LesFishingMoreCatching Thank you , getting one. One more question do you feel the GSB Medium works better than a Medium Heavy? Stuck on that thanks. I feel the MH would be better, stronger.
@@rainsong7327 it depends on the lures you are throwing. Both rods have enough backbone to handle large fish. I went with my rods because I don’t throw over 3oz at all much. When I chunk which is hardly ever I have another rod. But lures I like to keep light. The rod will load better and cast better if you consider that.
@@wormerful if you mean why isn’t the line catching on the line roller is because the line doesn’t come off the spool and hit it by design it’s meant to be bail-less.
Yea I mention that in the latest video I uploaded. The Hogy Protail Eel video. But I thought it was because it can get caught on the line roller easier.
Def a lighter reel the 150 feels better on my 9 than 10 but you can always add weight to the end of the rod if you need. The line capacity and drag are plenty for what I use it for.
I used to have a 9’ st croix mojo surf, i mean still have it but i snapped the bottom part accidentally closing my truck door but thanks for the help buddy

Bailess is the best ! Once you learn it good, it’s hard to go back to a bail.

I haven’t chunked in ages. But I do still got my 11 foot Lami Surf King and a 8000 Thunnus always ready to go.
Great video and awesome reel man. Glad you're ok after that spill
Thanks man. Yea the waves were rough that day I think I need bigger spikes haha.
@@LesFishingMoreCatching So the 150 is good for a 10 ft rod I see. Guys tell me you have to use a 200 for a 10. I don't know why.

What length and action of rod you are pairing that VSX 150 with?
I use the VSX150 with 10’ GSB L mostly. I also have a 9’ M that I also use it with sometimes.
Is combo with 9’ better balance than 10’.,?
Nice, what rod did you use on this video?
Thanks. Lamiglas GSB 10L one piece.
Nice Montauk catch~~ you like that white hogy eel 😄
Yea did good on my last south shore trip too.
@@LesFishingMoreCatching Nice~~ 😄
A brave man to cast without any gloves or protection on your index finger. :)
My drag is always set tight. I never cast anything above 2.5oz. And run 30# test. Those 3 things contribute to why I don’t have issues.
Hey man, what is the best casting distance reel between the old Shimano SW, VR50 and this one?
The Shimano seemed to cast better.
@@LesFishingMoreCatching there’s literally no difference in distance between them.
Love the van staal. Next upgrade look into the powerhandle for it. My hands would ways cramp reeling the small T handle
Yea I noticed right away the handle is shorter than my VR50. I’ll have to look into a power handle.
@@LesFishingMoreCatching I heard the VSX is not a smooth reel true?
Mine is very smooth. I was actually surprised how smooth it was. Definitely smoother than the VR.

please explain to me why the line is not popping up? is this reel good for jigging? when the line is not stretched, it does not pop up?
Not really sure what you mean, but if jigging I would probably prefer a reel with a bail or a baitcast style.
@@LesFishingMoreCatching I mean van staal without bail. Why line not going out from linebearing?

What rod do you have that on ?
I use it on my 9’M and 10’L lamiglas gsbs. Mostly on the 10.
So when your casting the handle has to be down at 6 o’clock the reel is at its highest point . If not your going to get a lot of wind knots

4:36😂😂😂😂😂
Fun times lol. The stormr kept me dry haha.
Lol, quick question i have two vsx, 150 and 250 and have the lamiglas gsb 10’ does it feels good with the 150?? I’ve always put it with the 250

Them reels suck way to heavy the paint flakes off and it's from China
