What in the Wide, Wide World of Schwartz is goin’ on here?!
Not only was Lucas okay with it, he even hooked Mel up with some effects artists from ILM. I think that proves that Mel wanted it to look good, but also still wanted a sort of B-movie aesthetic to be there. His stipulations were that there would be no merchandising, and that Lone Star would not look like Han Solo (hey, he didn’t say don’t dress him like Indiana Jones 😉). After seeing the movie, Lucas declared it “a dangerous comedy” because it made him laugh so hard.
Thanks for that! We were wondering.
For those who are curious, the model of Spaceball 1 was 17 feet long!!
Mel Brooks had to get George Lucas' permission. He told him not to dress Lone Star like Luke Skywalker or Han Solo, so he dressed him like Indiana Jones....😂
Not only did Lucas give Mel use of his ILM guys, in the evacuation scene, Lucas gave him some unused footage from the original Star Wars of the escape pods ejecting.
AMAZING!!!
@@haveyouseen_yt Also, it was a homage to Spaceballs in Rogue One!
😲😲😲
The “We ain’t found s***!” guy is the Vulcan, Tuvok, from Star Trek Voyager.
I just now realized the pun by using raspberry jam... it was like Lone Star doing a raspberry to Lord Helmet. "**pbbbbt!** Can't see me!"
😝
The reveal shot of the Yogurt statue and effects from it was a homage to The Wizard of Oz.
🍿
fun fact: parked at the space-diner is the Millennium Falcon
😱
They got permission from him. My understanding is Lucas loved it. He just said they couldn't merchandise the movie. Hence all the Spaceballs The Whatever throughout the movie.
Rick Moranis…He stopped acting when I was in my mid-teens I believe, but (paraphrase) Shrunk, Blew Up, Spaceballs, and Little Giants. Left acting for the right reasons but to me, back then, it was Rick Moranis and Macaulay Culkin…
32:38 That’s acclaimed actor John Hurt, reprising his role from Alien, a crewmember who likewise has an alien creature burst forth from his chest, hence the line, “Oh, no! Not again!”
The alien turns into a rendition of a Looney Tunes cartoon character, Michigan J. Frog, familiar to us old farts.
One of my favorite things about the film for sure!
Lucus loved the movie he had 1 condition they could not do ant merch so mel made a lot of jokes about the merch that's why there is no official Spaceballs merch.
👀
"Spaceballs" ©1987… Mel Brooks said on the commentary that is available on the DVD said that he wanted the beginning scene with the ship to be the whole movie!😮😮 Executives wanted a plot though! 😁😁 Mel Brooks also said on the commentary that said commentary is available on the laserdisc version! 😁😁
😂 We could just take that opening sequence and slow it to last 90 mins.
Ilm was involved in making it. George Lucas lent his support to this movie.
Mel Brooks predicted the disney acquisition of star wars! 🤪
😂
wow....the blond reactor is very nice to look at.
Have you seen "Galaxy Quest"?
Classic!
15:45 Elon Musk was inspired by that scene from Spaceballs and sold a limited number of flamethrowers lol. He talks about it on The Joe Rogan Experience
There's one parodied movie that almost no one gets...at the end, the homage to It Happened One Night.
🧐
Vespa running out of the ceremony the first time is also a nod to It Happened...
I'm always disappointed when people don't get the 'Lawrence of Arabia' reference. I'm not sure if it's as great as I thought it would be, but I can see why it's considered as a classic.
my favorite star wars episode! 😂
Better than Disney's The Message-infested "sequel trilogy."
@@Otokichi786 the Disney movies are so badly made that they don't even deserve the name "trilogy" - the third movie has almost no connection with the previous ones, it looks like it's from another series!!🤮
@@boqndimitrov8693 Amen! On to "Galaxy Quest" (1999), the best "Star Trek" movie Paramount didn't make.;)
NOTCE TO EDITOR...........I bet you edit the reviews with either headphones or earbuds. In doing this you make the reviewer 2-5 times louder than the movie, when you finish. This makes it really difficult to watch and listen without headphones or earbuds. I wish you would go back and watch without headphones or earbuds to understand that not everyone is using them to watch. Just trying to pass on information. It might have more people watching than just clicking off. Because the volume is so far off. Regards Rollerball
We will do our best. One issue is that when UA-cam detects too much of the movie audio, it blocks our video. So we have to walk a fine line.
Dudes haircut is way funnier than the movie
