I've had a rescue one for over a year now, she's a beaut. Not perfect with men because of her upbringing, but coming on so well and loves my lab to pieces
Wheat free Dry dog food (any quality brand) ....& we try to as often as possible get some "tough" meat from the butcher or simply a chicken that i cook for a couple of hours & then usually add rice in the same pot & let it all cook together. This very yummy mix is then poured over the dry dog food..... needless to say... our dogues love this !
LOL! I don’t know what my girl would do with that! I bought her a large marrow bone and she walked away from it! She prefers rib flat bones. So dainty 😂
Well, Morgan is actually on diet/light "kibbles" & Sophie gets the same but we add calories to her dish since she needs it (such as heavy cream every other meal). The brand of kibbles is called Brit premium light.
Thanks a lot this information was very useful, im been intrerested in getting one and did my research, but there's nothing better than an opinion from an actual owner. They are working dogs but characteristics change a bit as they evolve to what they are now which is a loving family pet.
These bones are bought...however, when i´ve gotten the same type of bones from the butcher (raw) i´ve simply cooked them for a while in a pot on the stove the traditional way. Believe it would be kind of dificult to steam cook big bones like this...but i might be wrong. The bones you see in the vid cost around $5 which is a very good price here in Sweden...so, if i have a choice i´ll buy them compared to getting the raw ones from the butcher since it´s just convenient. Thanks for asking !
Thanks ! U are right....they were too long & i noticed that when editiing but decided i´d post the vid anyway since it´s a good capture. Luckily Morgan is easy to distract when it´s time to bring out the nail clipper....my wife feeds him treats & i do the nail clipping.
Actually not easy to find...not many retailers that carry them. But, when i´ve gotten large "raw" bones from the butcher i´ve cooked them & find that they tend to splinter in to sharp pieces less than if not cooked...allthough i really do prefer to give our dogs these steam cooked ones.
I was thinkin about getting one had a Rottie called tosh he died two years ago dilated cardiomyopathy still miss him he was nearly 11 years old here in the UK a French mastiff are very expensive starting at £1000 pounds
Yea....they are expensive indeed...here in Sweden they start at about 1100 pounds & up. But, as i see it.... that´s just the initial cost..... adding vet bills & all other costs puts that price in perspective.....he he
Congrats to your pup... Give him/her a big hug from us! We give our dogs good quality kibbles and i also on a regular basis cook food that is added to their kibbles. Whole grain rice, chicken liver & chopped up broccoli...If not chicken liver...i´ll first cook a few beef bones & take out the marrow & use that intead of the liver.
Large breeds tend to not live as long as smaller ones....that´s unfortunately true. But, Sophie just had her 7´th birtday & Morgan is six monts behind..... we truly treasure every day we get with them !
I have a bone 3x bigger than that for my Dogue de Bordeaux and it cost 16 dollars so i got it because it cant fit through the back door if she pleased to bury it lol
My Dogo would absolutely love that! What kind (animal, which bone) is that? You just get it from a butcher and steam it? She cant hurt herself chewing it? Ingesting it?
They are cow bones & bought this way. I have gotten cow bones in different shapes & form in the past from the butcher & boiled them.... & that worked too....allthough a hazzle unless you have a really big pot...he he. Give your Dogo a big hug from Sophie & Morgan !
Lazy? Nope! Not high energy dogs like many "working" dogs & for the most part not the same level of "will to please" (ie. headstrong) as for example any shepard breed. Having said that... they still need lots of long walks & play with their friends to maintain their muscular physique & be mentally content. Once you´ve gotten used to DdB´s ....your sold for life !
Though we dont have the "mamooth bones", Tabita does love a good pig's ear! Only problem is....they dint last very long. ua-cam.com/video/TmV6HbHyVv4/v-deo.html
yes that was a expensive mistake I made if I get another pure pedigree will get Insurance my dog cost me a fortune in vet bills and I mean thousands have you had much trouble with your beautiful Ddb

Primordial breed, love them! They don't live long at all. It's a real struggle to lose your dogue at 6 yrs old.

I've had a rescue one for over a year now, she's a beaut. Not perfect with men because of her upbringing, but coming on so well and loves my lab to pieces

You should never, never give a dog cooked bones. Do you too it off with a chocolate bar?

My Orka approves of this big boy.

Chuck, that if a bovine femur bone. Where did you find a bone 3x bigger for $16? Because a bone 3x bigger would be an elephant femur (not cheap).
What food do you feed your gorgeous dogs on?
