The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is a masterpiece but this is probably my personal favorite of the trilogy, my favorite western, and one of my favorite films ever. I love the dynamic between Clint and Lee and how personal the stakes are in the duel ever more so than the previous and next installment. Also this goes without saying but Morricone's score slaps.
I share your opinion about “For a Few Dollars More” being the “best” of the three. It is the most re-watchable; obviously Leone took his master of Cinematography, combined Morricone’s music to even greater heights in “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” and “Once Upon a Time in West”, but “For a Few Dollars More” is the movie I always rewatch the most.
I figured it was click bait too but I still have a soft spot for Lee van Cleef. Many years ago when I was young and single I had a fiery fling with his look alike, oh what a lover ❤❤❤😍😍😚
Strange. He always looked much older than his age. He was only 64 when he died? He looked like he was easily in his 80s. He was born in 1925. So he would have been 40 in “A Few Dollars More” (1965) and 41 in “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” (1966). Until I looked it up just now, I had assumed he was around 60 in those movies. And it’s not just movie makeup, he really did look older. I wonder why.
"For a Few Dollars More" was my favorite Lee Van Cleef movie. A funny thing about Lee Van Cleef is how many movies he turns up in before he was a star. He was the Army Marksman who fired the weapon that killed "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms".😉
Yea. It's disturbing. Deceiving. He was a good actor. Steve McQueen admired Lee. Lee lived in constant pain & never complained. He did his part & do it good. Appears Clint also admired Lee.
The best of the Bad, what a great performance as Angel Eyes. My personal favourite was as Colonel Mortimer as a good guy in A Few Dollars More. He starred in my two favourite Westerns, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly and a Few Dollars More. Sadly he passed to early.
While watching one of the “Fist full of Dollars” movies, I noticed that Lee Van Cleef was missing the tip of his “Giving you the Bird” finger all the way to the first joint from the tip. I really liked him in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. He had an awesome role to play.
The difference between John Wayne and Clint Eastwood 60s/70s westerns is that those with Wayne look as old as they are today, but those with Clint could have been made just yesterday.
Lee was in a movie called the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and there's an iconic scene with John Wayne, James Stewart, Lee Marvin, Woody Strode, Strother Martin, and you just can't take your eyes off of Lee Van Cleef, the guy had a magnetic presence.
The Liberty Valance gang members Show up in The Twilight Zone in a episode called The Grave 🪦 I wonder which gig was first. Is Conny Miller in possession of Liberty Valance body? Who knows!!
In THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHHOMS (1953) Lee Van Cleef played an army corporal who proclaims that he is the best shot in the army just before shooting the beast in exactly the right spot. It was the first time I saw him in a movie and never forgot those "ANGEL EYES".
Lee was AWESOME. It's fun just saying all three parts of his name. He was also in one of the Magnificent Seven movies. He and Clint played off each other in the movies perfectly. I can and do watch them over-and-over. Sorry to hear about his health problems. He died at the same age I am NOW. He sure didn't need a nose job, I'm glad he didn't do it. Who else has a nose as straight as his? No need to tamper with perfection.
❤ Lee Van Cleef. He was fantastic for sure!! The best movie, I believe was The Good,Bad and The Ugly or For A Few Dollars More, both are great!! I listen and like and subscribe to each episode. So thanks 😊. 9:57
Obviously the good bad and the ugly is best. But as a lee van cleef film my personal favourite has to be Sabata. Whose clips are featured in this video. A highly overlooked classic with a sprinkle of campiness for good measure.
Wow, his rugged life must’ve took a toll from those movies. He definitely was a Force in the movies to be reckoned with well done Lee Van Cleef, rest easy
Good input here..My favorite film with Lee was his part in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence..But I liked his later roles in the Eastwood films as well..
No mention of how he lost the tip of his middle finger on his right hand? It's been reported that he lost it when he was building a playhouse for one of his daughters.
There is an early episode of Gunsmoke where LVC (playing a wanted bad guy) was shot in the back eating a meal within the first couple of minutes of the show.
There was an Italian western where he costarred with an Asian martial artist but can’t remember the name of the movie. Wasn’t on tv very often and I really enjoyed it
You should have titled the video Lee Van Cleef a brief history of Hollywood’s favorite bad guy. I think it would have made more sense than the clickbait.
Like any kid in the 80s, I got caught up in ninja-mania and was introduced to Lee Van Cleef in The Master, and thought he was the coolest. Over the years I saw the Leone movies and then the Sabata films and he never failed to deliver. He had a unique path to stardom for sure, but then again, he was a unique man.
He had many roles in old western series shows too. Like Wanted Dead Or Alive with Steve McQueen. I think my favorite has to be The Good The Bad & The Ungly though. Great video btw! Subbed 👍
Americans think LVC as a "heavy" but in the majority of the 15 Italian/Spanish westerns roles he did he was the hero most of the time as well as the protagonist (he was never considered "leading" material in Hollywood, due to his particular looks, until he moved to Europe). Apart from the 2 Leone films you should really check out: The Big Gundown, Days Of Anger, Death Rides a Horse and Sabata, the role he probably loved the most (and which clips you can see scattered here).
Interesting trivia on an actor I love, thanks! I'm such a fan of his that I would watch The Master when it first aired and kept watching it through its run, lol (even though it was stupid and Lee looked so frail).
I saw it somewhere that after his car accident he asked a doctor if he would still be able to ride a horse , the doctor looked at him and said that the truth is you will be lucky if you walk again never mind ride a horse , he went on to prove the old doctor wrong by not only managing to get on his feet an walk again but was soon after that was back in the saddle again ...
I really enjoy your posts and thank you for your research. However, I wish you didn’t feel the need to play up some nonexistent “rivalry” and add “You jerk,” etc. You do good work without having to resort to dishonesty and sensationalism (a la the media).
What he brought to the role of the US Marshal in Escape from New York very few actors could have pulled off. He was both a good guy and a bad guy at the same time.
🐴my own Favourite has to be "For a Few Dollars More" the end duel between Col Mortimer and El Indio in my own opinion is far better than the three way duel at the end of "The Good the Bad and The Ugly" , also the rapport between Clint and Lee in this film is so great it raises the film to a new level , "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" gets all the praise off people as being the best of the trilogy , but to me " For a Few Dollars More" will always be the stand out masterpiece of the "Dollars Trilogy"🐎
4:55 How did he lose part of his middle finger as also seen in the final shootout of The Good the Bad and My Mother in Law? I do a lot of work down the street from his hometown of Somerville, NJ. There is a street there named Van Cleef and as I understand there are other Van Cleef's still there.

would make those already legendary movies even more.

Lee Van Cleef was the essence of cool....and even now many of his movies are hard to find..
What do you mean “even now”? Where they hard to find before? Or you just felt like adding the word “even” for no reason? Genuinely curious
THERE IS NO RIVALRY....THEY WERE FRIENDS!
Friends can be rivals.
Never have been big on westerns but The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is one of my all time favorite movies
Few Dollars More and Fist Full of Dollars both excellent
Lived next door to Lee's son in Jacksonville, he looked just like his father.
"This train will stop at Tukamkari": my favourite line of his.
" pardon me ma'am "
Lee was a fantastic actor. He knew when to get the audience ready with his certain look; squinty eyes and stead fast chin.🎉😊😎

He was a good actor.
Steve McQueen admired Lee. Lee lived in constant pain & never complained. He did his part & do it good.

It's called clickbait!
Don't forget, Lee Van Cleef was in one episode of the Andy Griffith show. He was a bad guy working in a carnival, and didn't have any lines to say.
The best of the Bad, what a great performance as Angel Eyes. My personal favourite was as Colonel Mortimer as a good guy in A Few Dollars More. He starred in my two favourite Westerns, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly and a Few Dollars More.

Colonel Douglas Mortimer .....a brave man.

John Wayne was an old guy. Clint Eastwood was bad ass
Will always love The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. He was my favorite in that movie as a kid. Also did like Eli Wallach as Tuco.
Eli has become one of my favorites.. so good
I thoroughly enjoyed watching Lee Van Cleef in any role! An exceptional actor, and a good man!! 📽❤️🎬❤️
One of the best all around bad guys in tv and western movies
He plays the good guy in the magnificent seven ride!
Don't forget his epitaph ! on his headstone it says " The Best of the Bad " ! r.i.p. 😢❤🙏

I always love seeing his cameos and movies. Cause it was such a treat to see his characters. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valant ..
One of my all time favorite actors, Leme Van Cleef was unique, talented and highly watchable. A great actor.
He opitomized the Western villain. The perfect counterpart to the "Bionic Cowboy" himself.
I had no idea they had a rivalry.
Also, in case you speak of him again, the final “e” in Leone is pronounced, so Le-o-nee versus Le-on.
They didn't. It's a click bait thumbnail & title.

Bob Hauk in Escape From New York. Loved the scenes with him and Kurt Russell.
The insight into his rivalry with Clint Eastwood adds another layer of intrigue to his story.
Takes too long to get on with the rivalry.

Yeah. But I didn't see any.
Sabata Trilogy. He was a fantastic lead. If you haven’t seen them, you need to.
"Death Rides a Horse"...pinnacle Lee Van Cleef.
Are these videos narrated by some type of software? The intonations and inflections often don't sound natural.
Just what I thought as well. Sounds really weird.
My favorite was The Beast From Twenty Thousand Fathoms, he had a small but important part!
"For A Few Dollars More" was a good movie especially the ending
Funny....when Eastwood asks Col. Mortimer, "What about our partnership?" and Van Cleef replies simply, "Maybe next time" it always chokes me up.
I liked Lee in "How the West was Won" from 1962. He played (what else) a bad guy.
No mention of how he lost the tip of his middle finger on his right hand? It's been reported that he lost it when he was building a playhouse for one of his daughters.
He was a presence in any roll he took
There is an early episode of Gunsmoke where LVC (playing a wanted bad guy) was shot in the back eating a meal within the first couple of minutes of the show.
I remember the old days (1940s, 50s, 60s) when all the wild west bad men talked with a New York City accent like LVC did. Ain't that weird?
Title says this is about Lee and Clint Eastwood rivalry. It goes on too long just on Lee.
I've seen at least 6 of his films, including High Noon [1950]. For a real treat, see him play a super-tough but good guy in The Big Gundown [1967].
This AI is ridiculous
There was an Italian western where he costarred with an Asian martial artist but can’t remember the name of the movie. Wasn’t on tv very often and I really enjoyed it
I love them both but I always preferred LVC. What a legend.
Saw him in 'Armed Response' with David Carradine

6:40 Stanley Kramer didn't direct High Noon, Fred Zinneman did. Kramer produced it.
So how did he lose his finger? Sergio kept the camera lingering on that quite a bit during "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly"
