No idea what you're going to find? That's the fun of harvest with root crops!!

I am in the process of picking my sweet potatoes in Texas. Add bone meal ( phosphorus) to stimulate roots and flowers)
Definitely remove the rocks for next year. I had grass invade half my bed so I need to investigate the impact.

Ahhh yeah they never bloomed, I'll definitely fertilize next year (I don't think I even put manure on that spot this year). And yes, cleaning out all those beds is on our winter to do list! Good luck with the grass, hopefully it didn't make too much impact!

Root crops need soft soil, deeply dug. I had a nice harvest of sweet potatoes 2 weeks ago and they have cured out to be some sweet sweet potatoes. Funny that we both harvested into Home Depot orange buckets! Oh, and another thing...since the leaves are the sugar factories that make all the goodness that gets stored in the tubers, you really want to promote and protect as much foliage growth as possible.

All of that makes perfect sense! I really don't remember what was going through my head when I planted them back in the spring...at that point I may have just been ready to get them in the ground and didn't want to worry with tilling the bed! 🤣

@@ClumsyDogAcres Yup! That's the way it goes sometimes, when it comes to getting things in the ground. I had several garden projects this year that fell under the category of "just get it in the ground today!" All the best to you.

You should watch millennial gardeners most recent video on sweet potatoes. He's says they thrive on neglect
