      maybe it was inevitable??? 🙄
Actually, Calvinism always rises and falls over time, (ironically, if they're right, that's the way God planned it). There is a seduction which ensnares some. Finding a reason to believe you understand something someone else does not... To be specially 'picked' for no reason at all can be too much to resist. There is a false humility which is unavoidable, if not unspoken. Underneath there is a self satisfying paradigm which is hard to turn down. It appeals to the intellect and mans very nature. Yet, historically, it is the 2nd generation of Calvinists who inevitably devolve into embracing fully the implications of the doctrine which demands that everything you will or will not do has already been decided by God..... everything.
However, for most, it is an untenable existence which man cannot reconcile with his own reality. Calvinists can develop the 'super-power'.... of Cognitive Dissonance. To live at peace with ones self one must ignore this deterministic fact of their doctrine and behave "as if" it isn't true. The heart of all mankind, (saved or not), desires to 'matter' so they must live as if we do matter ....while maintaining they actually do not. Added to this unsustainable conundrum is the ever existent potential that 'evanescent grace is afoot, e.g. That God is just messing with you, causing you to "think" you were 'elected' to salvation ....but only for a time so that hell will be hotter for you ...for His good pleasure.(this according to John Calvin, look it up).
No, a Calvinist's "salvation" is a singular an act of God in which they play no part at all. Therefore there is nothing they can ever point to which confirms they are actually saved. Even R.C. Sproul slept with one eye open, he wrote of struggling with his own doubts. Eventually , many people abandon it, and resign to live in a sort of foggy state of confusion. Unfortunately, many abandon God as a result of it.
Here is the worst effect of Calvin's dirty secret; Accepting the Calvinist premise as fact that God made the vast majority of souls, (in his own image no less), to burn in hell eternally by His own decree, and for His own pleasure, for doing what he decreed they would do. While he literally withholds the very grace necessary for salvation for no reason having to do with them, as he forces this 'grace' on a few select souls also chosen for no known purpose. This scenario violates the very conscience God bestowed on mankind from creation. It plants the seed which causes people to doubt that God is really good at all, or that He can be trusted.
It should be no surprise that when asked to describe God most atheists do so in Calvin's terms. They rightly reject this portrait of a god which Calvin paints, but sadly discard God along with the portrait.
When you consider this, is it not the very same purpose and effect of Satan's lie to Eve in the garden. .... coincidence.. ?? I think not.

I love this analogy: Calvinism treats God as a crazy potter. He creates one pot to be his chosen pot, but he also creates a bunch of other pots to smash into bits to show the other pot how much he loves it. But that’s not enough. He also hates dirt. So he fills each pot with dirt but only cleans the chosen one. Then when smashes these pots filled with dirt, he sweeps them up and puts them in a trash bin. Now the chosen pot is stuck realizing the potter is insane.

I know this is a year later, and i do not believe in Calvinism. However, you should know when you say something is heresy or someone is a heretic. What you communicate is that this person based on what they are believing in (the heresy) or is teaching (being a heretic) is condemned to hell by virtue of it. Be careful. Say what you mean and mean what you say.

Let me ask you, do you think that you were the one who decided to follow Jesus? You who were dead in your sins. You who were a slave to your slave owner, namely Satan. Slaves can’t do anything but what a slave owner tells them to do. They ARE NOT FREE to go anywhere!! Why would you even want to come to Jesus when you are dead, dead in your sins. Dead people can’t do anything either. They can’t accept the medicine being offered to them. They are dead.
Then here’s another thing, is the power of forgiveness of the blood of Jesus somehow not strong enough to wash away all the sins of the whole world. That’s what you believe, therefore everybody should be saved and nobody should be going to hell but we know that that’s obviously not true …..so why is that??? The blood of Jesus is powerful, God is sovereign, so why aren’t everyone saved??
Because God is 100% sovereign. Because God chooses. Because God said in the Old Testament I will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. Because God‘s thoughts are higher than our thoughts.
No one comes to me unless the father. FIRST DRAWS THEM………
Get on your knees and be humbly tearfully thankful God chose you.
We absolutely are nothing without God and we cannot do anything without God. Nothing absolutely nothing. And our choosing has nothing to do with who we were, who we are or who we will be. That is obvious when we look at the lives of Peter and King David and Saul etc. etc. etc.

For a long time, I was neutral on this issue. After debating with friends in college (early 2000s) and leaning towards Calvinism, I then concluded that somehow both are true. We have free will, but God also elects people to salvation. So I appealed to mystery and left it there.
But about a year ago, I started thinking about this again. I was thinking about the punishment for people who were born unable to believe because they weren't elect! This is like requiring a baby to pass a college exam, then punishing them for not getting an A. But if there wew millions of babies, you take a few hundred and decide to take the test for them. This doesn't make sense and seems cruel and unjust.
So, I then concuded that God reveals himself to ALL and gives the gift of faith to ALL. So anyone who does not have faith are without excuse as it says in Romans 1. This also is in harmony with 2 Peter, where it says it's not God's will that any should perish, but that ALL come to repentance.
Therefore, not everything that happens is God's will. He did not create evil. Instead, he sovereignly chose to create beings with a free will. He allows evil to occur, and sometimes uses it towards a good.

    • @matthewsouthwell3500
      @matthewsouthwell3500 26 днів тому

[You:] "So, I then concuded that God reveals himself to ALL and gives the gift of faith to ALL."
      ● A little bit of push back here because I do think that your statement above is error:
      Matthew 16:13-20
When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.
      - Do you believe that God revealed Himself in the same manner to those who said Christ Jesus was John, Elijah, Jeremiah or one of the prophets that He revealed to Simon Bar-Jonah?
      - Also, in 2 Thessalonians 3:1-2, it is written that "not all have faith." I'm not sure where you are deriving the idea that God "gives the gift of faith to ALL," but I do understand that by that statement you are in fact conceding that faith is a gift.

I think the T and the L in the tulip are the most affronts to God's character. He sends people to hell forever because people refuse to do what they were never capable of doing, if that's not evil and unfair, i don't know what is. the calvinist may say "mystery" and "how unfathomable are God's ways"... but "unfathomable" doesn't mean "contradictory" or "unjust". You are literally saying that SOMEHOW UNKNOWN, People are indeed guilty of not doing something they were NEVER capable of. You don't live out that belief anywhere in any situation, so maybe your interpretation is wrong. Isn't it just more likely that you are interpreting the bible wrong than just "somehow someway people are guilty of something they never had any control or choice over". That can only be true if you COMPLETELY REDEFINE the word "guilt". GUILT, BY DEFINITION implies that the guilty person could have done otherwise.

    • @vitormenezesdemattos967

And the L makes every christian who loves an unsaved person (an unsaved person who will die without Jesus, specifically, whoever they are, remaining unsaved til death) and would even die for this person.... more loving than Jesus.
Imagine an unsaved person you would die for, if he/she never comes to Christ, the L says Jesus never died for that person, but you would. IOW the L of tulip makes you more loving than Jesus. Is a grave error with horrible implications for the preaching of the gospel. Is much more God/Christ like, according to what we see in the whole bible as Michael Brown pointed out, that Jesus DID die for everyone, but his death only applie to those who repent and turn to Jesus. Than you can't ever say you are more loving towards an unsaved person you are willing to die for than Jesus... THE INCARNATION OF LOVE (According to coherent calvinism, LIMITED love. The LIMITLESS GOD WHO IS LOVE, Is limited in love).

    • @pford
      @pford 3 місяці тому

Im convinced that Calvinism is popular because it obfuscates and confounds people. And those who hold to it feel intelligent for understanding it so they must prove to you their understanding of the mystery. The Gospel is not complicated - repent and believe. It is the gift of God to everyone who believes. Calvinism calls into question the very meaning of words. What is belief without choice? What is a gift if it cannot be received by choice? Nah, the Bible is abundantly clear that God is willing that no one should perish but that ALL should come to repentance through faith in Jesus. If Calvinists really believed in predestination and lack of free will, they would never do another invitation.

I do believe that God does choose certain individuals for his purpose for certain things. He called Abraham and through a promise he said he’d make him the father of many nations. God tested Abraham concerning Isaac. Abraham had faith that even if God took Isaac that he could raise him from the dead, if needed. He called Abraham his friend. He chose Moses to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt. He chose Paul to preach the gospel. He chose his only son to come to earth in human form and show us God’s character. Jesus did all of God’s will. He healed the sick, cast out devils, and raised the dead. Then he died on the cross, was buried and was resurrected. Jesus died for the sins of all mankind and only through his blood will we be saved. We don’t get saved by our works, but if we are saved we should have the works or the fruit that shows we are saved. God offers salvation to all, but gives free will to us.

Not only that, but Rebekah’s children had one and the same father, our father Isaac. Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad-in order that God’s purpose in election might stand: not by works but by him who calls-she was told, “The older will serve the younger.” Just as it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”
What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! For he says to Moses,
“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy,
and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
It does not, therefore, depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.
One of you will say to me: “Then why does God still blame us? For who resists his will?” But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’ ” Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?
What if God, choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath-prepared for destruction? What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory- even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?

Continue with the chapter and put the beginning also... In Romans 9 Paul's asks why many Jews have rejected Jesus even though God had originally made covenant with them, gave them all the promises, prophets etc and proceeds to answer that question in the end of the chapter in verses 31 and 32.
31 But Israel, who pursued righteousness based on the Law, did not achieve the Law.
32 Why not? Because they did not pursue it on the basis of faith, but as if it were based on achievements. They stumbled over the stone that causes people to stumble.
The Jews rejected Christ because they could not understand how one can be made righteous by faith.. They clung on to their works of the law.. they rejected Christ and because of their unbelief, God hardened their heart like he had done for the pharaoh. They became like Ishmael and Esau as they went outside God's promise of salvation and tried to make their own way through their works. (Hence Paul's emphasis on Isaac being the child of promise and Jacob being chosen apart from works).
Paul the addresses Israel's objections against God's judgement of hardening.. where they blame God for injustice. This is natural as they must have been shocked by the change from the covenant of the law to that of grace.
He answers their objections by pointing to God's sovereignty.. in the means by which he extends mercy (in this case the cross) as well the objects of his mercy (i.e gentiles are allowed to come to the faith without circumcision or following the law)
Many Gentiles accepted Christ and received God's mercy. The Jews made a choice to follow righteousness according to the law and hence were lost.
Somehow Calvinists read this chapter and come to the opposite conclusion that Jews did not believe because God did not elect them and they had no natural ability to believe.
      It's kinda funny.

Those who God truly have predestined before the foundation of the world will hear the gospel and truly live for Christ. Dr. Brown there are 41 verses written in the bible about Predestination and Election. How God dealt with the prophets directly in the old testament and until now. God is able of farseeing, therefore He knows what we are able to became even before we are formed in the womb, therefore He's able to elect people to do His will or people to be raised as enemy of Christ because, but this is not predestinations. Paul is a very confused preacher in general (i know you are refering to Romans 9) and Peter warn us do not take his teachings lightly or we can understand him wrong.
Predestinations = no free will, therefore when God is telling us to choose the path we wish, the life or death, He's contradicted himself.
Also the judgement is wrong, since He will judge a tool (what predestinations is saying that we are). Even more, we humans are more righteous than Him if the predestinations is real, because we judge a killer and not his tool who he used to commit a crime.
Well, much to say, but basically nobody can be surely certain of his salvation. What if God wishes for someone to fall from faith, as many before us? What is the point of all the warnings if we are not able to make a choice?

Dr. Brown coming from someone who did not understand the bible, your questions would be legitimate. The fact that you are someone who has studied the bible for years, there's no excuse:
    *POINT 1:*
"The fact is that Calvinist believe that God has ordained human behavior"
    *Answer*
The BIBLE says that God DOES ordain EVERYthing that comes to pass:
    Isaiah 46:10-11
Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:
Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I WILL BRING IT TO PASS; I HAVE PURPOSED (Preordained) IT, I WILL ALSO DO IT.”
    Ephesians 1:11
In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who WORKETH ALL THINGS AFTER THE COUNSEL OF HIS OWN WILL.
    Isaiah 55:11
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it SHALL ACCOMPLISH THAT WHICH I PLEASE, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
    *Point 2*
"The simple question I have is this, if God ordained that someone would do evil, why does it grieve him when they do evil, and why does he express his desire that they not do evil."
    *Answer*
Did Jesus murder grieve God? Did he ordain that Jesus be murdered?
    See Acts 4:27-28
Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. THEY DID WHAT YOUR POWER AND WILL HAD DECIDED BEFOREHAND SHOULD BE HAPPEN
Did God ordain that these specific people would betray and/or crucify Jesus?
    YES!
    How do we know?
Because the bible gives us precedent:
Pharaoh - “I HAVE RAISED YOU UP FOR THIS VERY PURPOSE” (Exodus 9:16)
Judas - ““Brothers and sisters, the Scripture had to be fulfilled in which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through David concerning Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus.” (Acts 1:16)
“While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost EXCEPT THE ONE DOOMED TO DESTRUCTION (son of perdition) SO THAT THE SCRIPTURE WOULD BE FULFILLED” (John 17:12)
NOTE: The scriptures MUST be fulfilled and GOD HAS ORDAINED THOSE WHO FULFILL THEM
Which is why Jesus says in Mathew 18:7 “Woe unto the world because of offences! for IT MUST NEEDS BE THAT OFFENCES COME; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!
NOTE: Although God does ORDAIN what people do and what comes to pass He does NOT CAUSE them to be evil. Read Isaiah 10 and the King of Assyria. God sends him and his army to punish Judah and “trample them down like mud in the streets.” God says “I SEND HIM..” “He is an ax in MY HAND”….then God says but he did not intend it so, he did it for HIS OWN wicked pleasure and therefore I WILL PUNISH HIM!
    *Point 3*
"Throughout the word God makes it clear that he takes no delight in the death of the wicked but desires rather that they repent and live."
    *Answer*
You are conflating God’s “desire” with God’s will. Could God have kept Adam, David and everyone from sinning against him? YES!
    See Abimilech in Genesis 20:6
See David when God kept him from kill nabal in 1 Samuel 25:32-34
God IS able to turn hearts of people “wherever HE wills” (Proverbs 21:1). He turned the hearts of the Egyptians AGAINST his people (Psalm 105:25) and FOR his people (Psalm 106:16)
God did not “desire” for Jesus to be murdered, but it was His WILL!
Does a good human judge “desire” for people to do right? Does he “take pleasure” in sentencing a person to death? NO! But he does it because it’s just and right!
    *Point 4*
"I can truly look at any lost person and tell that person God desires that you turn and believe. If I held to a predestinarian doctrine...I could not say "God loves you and sent Jesus to die for you."
    *Answer*
    1. I can too! God DOES truly “desire” that people repent and live.
    2. You should NEVER say “God loves you and sent Jesus to die for you.” Nowhere in scripture does any prophet, priest, apostle, disciple, believer, or Jesus say any such thing. What they DO SAY is “REPENT, AND BELIEVE!” What Jesus DOES say is “UNLESS YOU REPENT YOU WILL LIKEWISE PERISH!” Jesus did NOT say, “I love you and have a wonderful plan for your life!”
    *Point 5*
You read from John 17 where Jesus said “I do NOT pray for the world but for those who believe (i.e. the elect) then you apply the verse to the whole world!
Why would you take it so blatanly out of context?
    *Point 6
    *
“All men” in scriptures, especially in the NT, usually means “men from every tribe, tongue and nation..” (Revelation 5:9)
    *Some background:*
In the OT the Jews were the ONLY people God had set apart for himself (other than a few gentiles that came into the fold). In the OT the Jews were the ONLY people group that God had revealed his statutes and laws to, the gentiles were ignorant of God’s law. (Psalm 147:19-20). Isaiah said that until Jesus (the light) came, the gentiles were “Walking in darkness” (Isaiah 9:2). Paul said in Ephesians 2 that before Christ, the gentiles were “without HOPE and without GOD in the world.” Acts says that “God overlooked their ignorance (he did not reveal anything to them to take away their ignorance) (Acts 17:30) and that God “Allowed them to go their own way” (to perdition) (Acts 14:16).
Which is why Jews believed themselves to be special in God’s sight (God told them they were -Deuteronomy 7:6) and why they referred to gentiles as “dogs.”
And which is why before God sent Peter to Cornelius’ (the gentile) house, he had to give him a vision and tell him “do not call unclean what I have called clean” (gentiles) (Acts 10:15). Only THEN did he go into a gentiles house to preach the gospel. Then, his fellow Jews got angry with him for going to a gentile’s house but when he explain what had happened it says in Acts 11:18,
“When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.”
They understood THEN the “Mystery” that Paul speaks of in Ephesians 2 and 3:
“This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 3:6)
So, if you go back to John 12 (to give one example) which occurred BEFORE Peter’s revelation that gentiles were fellow heirs, it says in verse 20 “Now there were some Greeks (gentiles) among those who went up to worship at the festival. 21They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. “Sir,” they said, “WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE JESUS.”
When they told Jesus, his response was “If I am lifted up I will draw ALL MEN (from every tribe, tongue and nation) to me!
    Example 2:
John 10:16, Jesus says “I have OTHER SHEEP (Gentiles) that are not of this sheep pen (the Jewish sheep pen). I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. (refer back to Ephesians 2:14,
“For he himself is our peace, WHO HAS MADE THE TWO GROUPS ONE and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility,”
The "All Men" in the contexts of the salvatoin scriptures does NOT mean "every single person on earth," it means "ALL PEOPLE GROUPS" (or , from every tribe, tongue and nation)
    One final example that makes this point clear. In Romans 5, Paul (God) uses "all men/people" who SINNED to refer to EVERY PERSON;
vs 12 "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned-"
    But then, when speaking of who will receive salvation, he says;
vs 17 "For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will THOSE WHO RECEIVE GOD'S ABUNDANT PROVISION OF GRACE and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!"
And WHO is it that "receives" this "abundant provision of grace" and "gift of righteousness?" Not "All People" or "Every single person." No, Peter says in 2 Peter 1:1
"Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have RECEIVED A FAITH as precious as ours:"
The word "received" is the word "Lagchano" and means "to obtain by lot. 1. To receive by divine allotment, obtain. 2. to cast lots, determine by lot."
It's just as Paul says in Ephesians 2:9, "It is the GIFT of God, so that nobody can boast." And God gives the gift to whom HE pleases. (John 3:8, John 1:13, Romans 9:16, Matthew 11:27)

rolysantos It’s like God knows our hearts (of course) but can choose where to put us on this chess board called “Earth” and potenciate what is already in us to do His Will. That’s why He CHOSE Judas as one of the 12. Anyways, I don’t agree with the statement that Jesus only died for the sins of the Elect simply because the Bible is very clear about it. I think Calvinists care more about making sense of their own doctrine than the Word of God in this sense. And they don’t understand the character of God printed in such act (dying for the sins of the world) that only brings more condemnation to those who reject Jesus. That’s why the Scripture makes a difference between the lost before Jesus and the ones after Jesus remarking that the last ones will be far more condemned.

Answer to the first question: because God's desires are complex and multi faceted. Also, I don't see how the non-reformed position fares any better: why did God create Joe knowing Joe would sin, if God doesn't desire Joe to sin? It's the same answer: God desires more things than simply to minimize the amount of sin in the world.
The calvinist position is pretty straightforward, though typically misunderstood. 1. God can cause anything that he desires to happen, and prevent anything that he wants to prevent. This is divine sovereignty, the secret decree, ordination. 2. Men sin / evil exists / not all are saved. 3. Thus, God ordains/decrees these things to happen. For that not to be so, would mean there are things in the world outside of God's power to control.

God being sovereign means that He is able to choose what to and what not to decree. He is all powerful and all knowing. How He chooses to use His knowledge and power is up to Him.
Also, most non-calvinists don't believe in the "God saving through looking into the future". We are saved by grace THROUGH faith and Christ's atonement made provision for all who believe.

Three-card Monte, for instance, works on the same principal - a person is free to choose but the outcome is already known to someone else. The two mechanisms aren't necessarily mutually exclusive, it's just a matter of ignorance on the part of the free will side. Parenting is full of these sorts of examples as well. What am I missing?

Romans 9 says that he creates some for destruction and some to be saved (this is paraphrased). I am a calvinist and I believe scripture for exactly what it says. It literally says in romans "What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,....."
    Romans 9:22 ESV
Free will is our choice to make a decision however our free will ultimately leads to the destination that God has predestined, whether it be heaven or hell. I used to think calvinism was wrong and hateful until the word was revealed to me for what it is. I say this for the sake of understanding in those who have insulted us. Also calvinism isnt void of love, it's understanding God's love, wrath, and glory for what it is. Also calvinism is only called that because of the man that defended the bible against Armenianism (I think I spelled that right.) Originally calvinism was said to be correct and what Christian's believed, but someone didn't think that it was so the tried to say "no this is the love of God." Then Calvin said "no the word says this and this is what it means." (This is all very paraphrased.) Outside of the history I have seen several comments calling calvinists names and hurling insults at us. Read the word of God in Romans 9. It is undeniably stating that God has predestined some for destruction and some for heaven.

Hi Dr Brown. Matthew 1:21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” The 'His people' referred to here, is the same people Paul talked about in Ephesians 1: 4-5 '... even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will...' Chosen before the foundation of the world. Predestined for adoption. The only difference between a person in hell and one in heaven is the love of the Lord God Almighty. Not the persons will. Ephesians 2: 8-9 '...For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast...' The person in Heaven cannot boast about choosing God because he was chosen. God bless.

      1. Faith is NOT a "work." In fact, "faith" and "works" are deliberately contrasted throughout the bible.
      2. You misunderstand what predestination and being chosen by God before the foundation of the world actually means. God wants everyone to turn from sin (Repentance), and put their faith in Jesus (Trust in Jesus' atoning sacrafice on the cross for salvation... Instead of your own works). It was God's will to set things up in this manner before he created anything. It was the narrow route of salvation through Jesus that was predetermined to be the way that God chooses His elect... NOT choosing random individuals arbitrarily before the foundation of the world began.
Think about real-life examples of good relationships. I don't care what relationship you think of...
      Brother and sister
      Father and daughter
      Husband and wife
      Niece and uncle
      Friends
      Teacher and student
      Etc. Etc.
Every good healthy relationship is based on 3 things:
      - Intimacy
      - Faith
      - Love
When I speak of "Intimacy," I dont mean sex.... I am referring to fellowship. Getting to know someone more and more as time goes on. Not keeping the other person at arms-length. Sharing who you really are, and learning who the other person really is.
When I speak about "Faith," I am not talking about blind faith... I mean being able to trust the other person. Believing in their abilities. Having confidence in the other person's character.
When I speak about "Love," I am obviously not talking about the way I feel about someone else... I am talking about the CHOICES people make on how to act towards another person.
      • CHOOSING to act kindly instead of meanly
      • CHOOSING to act patiently instead of impatiently
      • CHOOSING to act with compassion, mercy, and forgiveness instead of hate, malace, or spite
      • CHOOSING to act fairly instead of unfairly
      • CHOOSING to serve rather than selfishness
      • Etc. Etc.
Notice how they are all interconnected?
Intimacy + Love = Increased Faith
Intimacy + Faith = More choices to act in loving ways
Love + Faith = Wanting even more Intimacy
Do you really think that our personal relationship with God isn't similar?
I say "similar" because God is a truly unique relationship.
      1. God knows us so intimately that every hair on our head is numbered. We have the choice to keep Him at arm's length, pretend He doesn't exist, and even spend eternity seperated from Him.... or we can choose to get to know God intimately once He reveals Himself to us (Everyone is without excuse because God reveals Himself to everyone through creation, conscience, and many other ways throughout our lives).
      2. God has always been completely faithful and trustworthy. The more we get to know God through His word, the more our faith increases. Anyone who reads the bible consistently knows about God keeping His prophetic promises throughout history, and how the old testament is pretty much all foreshadowing of Jesus.
      3. God IS love. Every time a born again Christian chooses to act in a loving way they are being obedient to God. Christ did the most loving thing anyone could ever do by giving up His life WILLINGLY for us.... and we WILLINGLY give up our lives for God and others. God sanctifies us by having the Holy Spirit convict us when we make bad choices after being justified.
      Your Calvin "tulip" is flawed...
      - Are we all totally depraved? Yes.
      - Does God know who will be saved beforehand? Yes (He is outside of time)
      - Once saved always saved (Perseverance of the saints)? Yes.
Limited Atonement? Not a chance. This is not biblical. There are plenty of bible verses that go against Limited Atonement. His free gift of Atonement is often rejected by many instead of received... But that does NOT mean Christ only took some sins upon Himself and not others.
Irresistible Grace? Nope. People reject God's offer of grace all the time. Why? They prefer their sin. This is not a knock on God... it's a testament to His perfect nature. God doesn't force Himself upon others or coerce people. He created humans who were free to choose or reject Him. We have all rejected Him. But in his mercy, He provided a way to be redeemed through Jesus Christ.
All those who have reached the age of accountability have seen countless examples of God's common grace that he extends to everyone. All those who have lived to the age of accountability have also experienced many glimpses of what life would be like without God (Endless examples of the way sin causes chaos, pain, suffering and hopelessness).
Everyone has opportunities to call out to God. If anyone calls out to God in truth (Sincere repentance), He is loving enough to show that person the only way to salvation (Jesus) in one way or another (Dreams, visions, missionaries, books, movies, etc). God will get His word to them in one way or another.
      Conclusion:
God is not the author of a story where he purposely created all people to do evil, then arbitrarily choose to show mercy on a few of them.
Instead, God created individuals who could choose to accept or reject Him. Even though God knew that we would all rebel... In His loving mercy, he provided a way for people to be redeemed and reconciled to God through jesus. He will not force people to spend eternity with Him in heaven, nor will He coerce anyone. It is a free gift to anyone who chooses to put their faith in Jesus. Once you see the love of God, it is your choice if you want to be with Him for all of eternity (Intimacy)... Or not. We are not biological robots... or puppets.

@@stevenrivard9246 Hi Steven. Hope you are well. In answer to your post.
      1) Where in my post did I say faith is a Work? Ephesians 2: 8-9 '...For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast...' This is what I quoted from the Bible. Your point is unclear.

In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will...' Again this is from the Bible. Paul is talking about a specific group of people. God's people, by the power of the Holy Spirit, can look at this and see themselves and give glory to God in Jesus name. Your definition of predestination and choosing is in direct opposition with the Scripture.
John 6:37-40 '... All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”...' All that the Father gives to the Son will come to Him.
John 6:65 '...“This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.”...' No one can come to the Son unless the Father grants it.
Which brings us back to: Ephesians 2: 8-9 '...For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast...'
Ultimately your argument is against Scripture not Calvin.

    "no man is righteous"
    "no man does good"
    "no man seeks God"
Psalm 23, Romans 3 of course...
"no man CAN come to me unless the Father first draws him" John 6:44
Calvinism is just a label people put on for biblical teachings about predestination. People would label Jesus a Calvinist today if they actually read the Bible. Surprise, most "Christians" haven't read the Bible, and if they have, they conveniently ignore the doctrine of predestination wherever it shows up in the Bible, which is basically everywhere.
God chose Abraham and gifted him faith, God chose Jacob instead of Esau, God chose the apostle Paul instead of any of the other evil Pharisees at the time... Ultimately, its God who chooses who follows Him, because a man simply does not possess the ability to follow God because its not in man's nature to follow God.
It's simple -- God created man with free will. The essence of this free will is self-determinism which means each man chooses what he desires most in EVERY situation. Naturally, a man rejects God because man simply would rather do what he wants than to do what God wants. The elect ones are the ones whom God has unconditionally chosen from before the beginning of the world(Ephesians 1) to become His children and seek to do God's will instead of their own. This way, His children can FREELY choose to follow Him, but of course, He is so beautiful and perfect, none of His children will ever see death or be "snatched out" from the Father's hand.
A non-believer FREELY rejects God, and God saves people by changing their hearts(Ezekiel 36:25-32) so that they will be able to seek God and follow His commands.
Theres a great metaphor of sheep in the Bible. Jesus says, "My sheep hear my voice." Who are His sheep? The elect of course, the ones who will come to believe in Him.
John chapter 8:31-47 is a conversation between the Pharisees and Jesus. Jesus explains why people reject God. He calls the people who reject the truth "children of the devil." That's right, the devil's children will never come to believe in Jesus because God the Father did not grant them the ability to come to faith in Jesus. As Ephesians 2:8 says, faith IS the gift of God. God gives His people faith, but not the rest of the world. Simple. This isn't Calvinism, this is simply Biblical doctrine.

I'm a non-married man. Lord willing one day if God blesses me with children my desire is for them to always be well behaved, polite, generous, and obedient...however I know that they wont be perfect, I know that they will act up, fret, complain, mourn, throw tantrums in public, disobey...I know this because I've seen how other children behave under the care of good parents. My desire for my future children to be obedient hasn't changed and me knowing that they will not obey has nothing to do with me *causing them* to be that way.
Sadly those who would oppose reformed theology do not make the proper distinctions in categories. Yes God desires for all to repent and be saved, however, unless you're a universalist, not everyone will be saved, there are people who will end up going to hell for all eternity as punishment for acts that they freely committed. God does not *make anyone* sin, we all sin because it is what we already want to do and we are tempted by the lusts of our own flesh and we are under the power of sin and satan. Just like the disobedient child, no parent wants or makes their child start acting up in public or blatantly disobeying them. It'd be incredibly awkward for a parent to say, "I desire for my children to disobey me" however children will disobey their parents, that's just reality.
The entire argument that Paul makes in Romans is that we are all sinners and the punishment for that is death but God in order to show His Divine attributes of loving kindness, Grace, and Mercy has purposed to save rebel sinners without compromising His Divine attributes of Justice and Wrath, and those that God rescues He did so because of His own will and purposes just as He told Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, compassion on whom I have compassion" That's what the Bible teaches. Any teaching that tries to make man the true center and sovereign is not Biblical at all.

Calvinism and Arminianism are systematic views of soteriology. Meaning, neither Calvinism or Arminianism is meant to be spoken of broadly in all matters of life but only in regard to salvation. The matter of predestination can be a systematic theology. However, Calvinistic predestination is only speaking to the moment of salvation. Therefore, I can be a Calvinist (according to soteriology) AND still say that humans have a sense of “free will” or “human responsibility.” I hold to Calvinistic beliefs regarding salvation but still hold all people responsible for their choices. But humans don’t choose to save themselves… we are saved by God only. And once you’re saved, walk with him by making meaningful, legitimate choices in everyday life.

Even if you are professor you need to come to God as a poor beggar and ask for the convicting work of the Holy Spirit. Just lose your degrees in theology and become like a child.

1 John 2:2 explained: That is, OF all people, who in all the world FROM all nations, see also: John. 11:51 Now this HE [Caiaphas,] did not say on his own authority; but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, 52 and not for that nation only, but also that He would gather together in one THE CHILDREN OF GOD WHO WERE SCATTERED ABROAD.
Romans 11:26 And so ALL ISRAEL will be saved, as it is written: “The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; This would then mean that every single Israelite will be saved? It is obvious not!!!
Many places in Scripture use the Word All Men for Not Only Jews but also other nations or “all kind of” there is a difference in the Greek.
John 12:32 And if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men to Myself.” The word in the Greek for all here is πάντας (pantas) whose root is πᾶς (pas). says of πᾶς: When used without the articles, it means, "every kind or variety." When used with the article, it means "whole or the totality of persons or things referred to." Analytical Lexicon of the Greek New Testament
    (Friberg)
Without the article… with distributive significance, denoting each individual in a class The word all in the verse has no article so it means "ALL KINDS OF MEN", so it isn't talking about every single man (universalism), it just denotes a broad spectrum. The notes of the translators in the Dutch Bible are correct [allen tot Mij Dat is, niet alleen de Joden, maar ook de heidenen, die in mij zullen geloven; Joh. 2:14,15. he drove THEM ALL out of the temple.
Rev. 5: 9, And have redeemed US to God by Your blood
    OUT OF EVERY TRIBE AND TONGUE AND PEOPLE AND NATION, [IT DOES SAY NOT ALL] 10 And have made us kings and priests to our God;
God the Father does not reconcile all and every human being throughout the world and from all times to Himself by Christ’s Sacrifice. it appears from experience, as well as that he has not prayed for all and for every human being, to the Father. Joh 17: 9, but ONLY FOR THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN HIM; Joh. 17:20.
NOW THE QUESTION: Is it important, to belief that Christ died for the Elect only and not for all men? Not at all, however it becomes important if it goes hand in hand with the denial of predestination. Why? It is Scriptural.
It is clear from this Scripture: Romans 9 (for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to ELECTION might stand, not of works but of Him who calls), Romans 9:12 it was said to her, “The older shall serve the younger.” 13 As it is written, “Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.” There will be no-one in Hell that Christ died for.
    Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Grace is one of the two main reasons of Salvation, Grace is God’s work in us without us. The other is Faith It is God’s work in us but not without us. Those that deny this have never been born again. Because if they were, they would know.

The vessels of wrath are being fitted to destruction because of their own sin and rebellion. God is patient with them, giving them time to repent. The vessels of mercy are saved by God's grace through faith in Christ. They were prepared beforehand, thus indicating God's determinate council and foreknowledge. God predestined the vessels of mercy for salvation. The key point is that grace is resistible. The vessels of wrath resist God's grace. The vessels of mercy also resist God's grace, but God saves them by grace anyway. It sounds illogical, but this avoids the pitfalls of calvinism and the errors of arminianism.

Baltic Hammer James White and Michael Brown also disagree on the subject of predestination and other things. In fact, they have a debate on UA-cam about the same subject. Yet they both consider one another to be brothers in the Lord. It shows that individuals can disagree about secondary theological issues and still embrace each other as brothers. No one is saved by the acceptance of or rejection of Calvinistic theology.
Although George Whitefield disagreed with John Wesley on some theological matters, he was careful not to create problems in public that could be used to hinder the preaching of the gospel. When someone asked Whitefield if he thought he would see Wesley in heaven, Whitefield replied, “I fear not, for he will be so near the eternal throne and we at such a distance, we shall hardly get sight of him.”

Little different from the evil cruel god of calvinism isn't it?

1 Timothy 2 : 3-6 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people.

@@jesuscalledandianswered Thank you. We MUST trust the Holy Spirit to keep us safe from the Devil's schemes.
God promises real Christians that He will not let us be tempted beyond what we can endure and will show us a way out.
I wrote a small piece that I thought you might benefit from explaining what Predestination really means.
Predestination example 1: Its kind of like this. A man’s wife is finally pregnant and the couple are over joyed. I hope it is a boy the man said and I hope he will be interested in becoming an electrician like me. I also hope he goes into the trade and if he does, I plan for him to take over the family business some day! But I know that these plans that I have made for him, before one of his days of life begin will be entirely up to my son. I cannot force him, I cannot put a gun to his head, I can only encourage and guide him and hope. In other word’s the man has predestined a plan for his son, He has chosen a plan for his son. He has elected to give all this to his son if he so desires it!
Outcome 1 The baby is born and it is a boy. He is interested in his fathers work and goes to electrical trade school, but drops out and becomes a lawyer instead.
Outcome 2 He drops out of school becomes a bum, a drunk or a murderer etc.
Outcome 3 The son follows his fathers predestinated plan, through trade school and takes over his father’s business. The fathers predestined plans for his son will happen, or will not happen, according to the choices the son makes.
Its the same with mankind. There is a master plan given to every human being to know God, reach salvation and eternity in Heaven.
But to follow or reject the plan is the choice given to every individual.
This is the "Good News Gospel" that the Angels proclaimed when the Messiah was born.
Satan has attacked that message from the beginning, twisting it into what is now known as Calvinism or the doctrine of election.
      Predestination example 2:
Grandma saves and saves to buy her granddaughter a plane ticket to France. She has been saving for many years and the day finally arrived and she gave her granddaughter her special gift.
The granddaughter goes to the airport and asks the attendant which plane to get on. The attendant says, what is your destination on your ticket? He reads the ticket which says “Destination France.”
He also said that flight 446 is a modern jet that was especially built and destined by the airline to fly exclusively to France for its entire service life. So, this aircraft has been predestined to fly to a predestined location, France.
The girl gets on the plane and is now destined to travel to France on the predestined plane, that has been predestined by its designers, to reach its predestined, destination!
This girl will arrive at her predestined trip that her grandmother predestined years before, as long as she goes to the airport, gets on the right plane and stays on the plane!
All this took place by the choices the granddaughter made.
Predestination example 3: "The man on an island." Imagine a man has been taken to a desolate island with everything he needs to survive and given only a Bible to occupy his time. This man has no preconceived idea about religion so everything he will learn over the next 10 years he will get directly from the Bible and Gods leading.
The man accepts God’s plan of salvation and what he has learned from the Bible. He repents and is born again.
The Holy Spirit is now counselling the man from the inside. He studies intensely for the 10 years growing in his faith and walking closer and closer with God daily.
After 10 years he comes back to the mainland world and decides he needs to fellowship with other Christians as the Bible says he should.
The man approaches a number of different churches and looks through the windows from the outside and says to himself “What are they doing in there what are they saying about God?
How do you think this man will compare what he knows to be true, from what he sees going on in the mainline churches today?
Do you think he will find what the mainline denominations are teaching will be in harmony to what this true follower of Jesus Christ has learned?
      You know it won’t be!
It then occurred to me that I am that man.
I became a Christian in the winter of 1980 and didn’t go to any church for 10 years.
I studied on my own directly from the Bible.
I did go to some Bible studies, but basically learned directly by Gods leading.

Everything that happens in history has been decreed/Predestined before the world was created see Eph 1:11, Proverbs 16:33 and Amos 3:6. And yes even when terrible things happen, I know it's hard for some people to accept but look what happened when David sinned against God and one of Davids punishments was that God told him that he was going to use Davids own son to shame his Father by Absalom Absalom doing something immoral to his Fathers concubines in front of all of Israel, see 2 Samuel 12:11-12 God said "Thus says the Lord, ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you from your own household; I will even take your wives before your eyes and give them to your companion, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight. Indeed you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and under the sun." Notice how God said "I WILL DO THIS THING."That was fulfilled in 2 Samuel 16:21-22. Jesus did not die for every single person ever and Jesus didn't die to make people savable. He died to save his elect. In John 17:9 Jesus said that he does not pray for the world. The word world is used in different contexts, in that context he's talking about the non elect. In John 3:16 world means that he purchased people from every tribe, tongue and nation Rev 5:9 and for the children of God scattered abroad John 11:52. Some have been "long beforehand marked out for condemnation" Jude 4 and "appointed to doom." 1 Peter 2:8. About Pharaoh God said “For this VERY PURPOSE I raised you up, to demonstrate My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed throughout the whole earth.” So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires." Rom 9:17-18. Jesus said "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight. All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him." Matthew 11:25-27. So, 2 Pet 3:9 the "not willing that any should perish" if you read that letter in context, 2 Pet 1:1 says "To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours." As far as salvation for all men verses, Paul was refuting the false notion of his time that God was only desiring to save just the Jews and 1 Tim 2:2 says to pray "for kings and all who are in authority" because as humans WE DON'T KNOW WHO THE ELECT ARE SO WE PRAY FOR EVERYONE! That's what it means in verse 4 by saying "all men." Amos 3:2 God said "of all the nations of the earth I have only known you." For centuries God passed over the majority of humankind because this verse isn't about knowledge it's about relationship. And it isn't because God foresaw Israel was more righteous then the other nations because sometimes Israel was more sinful then the pagan nations see 2 Kings 21:9. Only those who were predestined to be saved will be see Acts 13:48, Ephesians 1:4-5, Eph 1:11, Romans 9:11-23, John 6:37. 1 Samuel 3:14 God said “Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever.” That's Limited atonement.

Romans 9:14 What shall we say then? There is no injustice with God, is there? May it never be! 15 For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” 16 So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I raised you up, to demonstrate My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed throughout the whole earth.” 18 So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires.
19 You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will?” 20 On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, “Why did you make me like this,” will it? 21 Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use? 22 What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction? 23 And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory

Christian Praise and Worship in Songs, Sermons, and Audio Books amen God will have mercy on whom He will have mercy.
So the question we must ask ourselves is WHO does God sovereignly choose to have mercy on as clearly revealed in His Word?
      Do you know?
If He chooses to have mercy on all in Romans 11:32 then who are you O man to question him?
Can the clay talk back to the potter?
*The big question is WHO does God have mercy on based on what He’s told us in His word.
Don’t assume that this verse means we have no clue who He has mercy on as Calvinists do.
Who is the God that we know based on the REVEALED CHARACTER of God in scripture?
...Paul is quoting from Exodus 33:9 when he says “For He says to Moses...”
We must go back to this Exodus account and read exactly what took place.
God didn’t arbitrarily for no reason show mercy to certain people choosing them for no reason over others.
We need to look at what just finished happening.
      ...According to Romans 11:32 we see the conclusion of Romans 9-11 that God might have mercy on ALL IF they believe;
32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, THAT HE MIGHT HAVE MERCY UPON ALL.
...Such an incredible plan of salvation that we can agree with Paul in the end of Romans 11 marvelling at the way God chose to accomplish His purpose in election!
He’s not marvelling because of a false belief that some weren’t chosen for salvation.
No, it’s actually the exact opposite. Right after Paul declares the mercy for ALL he’s marvelling at how God chose to accomplish this after just explaining it all to the readers.
How God accomplished it through hardening and through jealousy and it was all ultimately through mercy.
Truly incredible depths of wisdom and knowledge to come up with and use such a plan!
His purpose in election all along was INCLUSIVE.
Only when we can fully grasp this will we be able to exclaim with Paul:
      ROMANS 11:33
11 O THE DEPTH OF THE RICHES BOTH OF THE WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE OF GOD! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

Did Judas have the choice to go out and do what he did? Sure. But at the same time, God worked through that so the scriptures could be fulfilled. Not saying God tempts evil. But that God works himself through what we call evil. And God means it for good.

Released From the Law, Bound to Christ
7 Do you not know, brothers and sisters-for I am speaking to those who know the law-that the law has authority over someone only as long as that person lives? 2 For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law that binds her to him. 3 So then, if she has sexual relations with another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress if she marries another man.
4 So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. 5 For when we were in the realm of the flesh,[a] the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in us, so that we bore fruit for death. 6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.
      The Law and Sin
7 What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”[b] 8 But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of coveting. For apart from the law, sin was dead. 9 Once I was alive apart from the law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. 10 I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death. 11 For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, deceived me, and through the commandment put me to death. 12 So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good.
13 Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! Nevertheless, in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it used what is good to bring about my death, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.
14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[c] For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do-this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature[d] a slave to the law of sin.

Calvin's version of Predestination places God at the scene of every crime in human history. Removing the created being's ability to respond to God freely, according to the object's own will, desire, and intellect, through a doctrine such as Calvinism, renders God as unable to feel His nature reflected and developed in the object of his creation, and does not enhance God's glory.
As Reinhard Bonnke said, paraphrasing, 'God can look out of the windows of our eyes and people can see Jesus in us', If He chooses. We may also be aware when God is doing this. But God can't do this if we are living like the devil. God is not a micromanager or a fortune teller. He is not the immortal dualist God of iniquity.

26 ¶ For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
    27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

      This is a straw man.
Arminianists and other people who reject Calvanism believe that God predestines people, but not in the same way Calvanists do.
Peter 1:1-2 and Romans 8:29 state that God chooses the saved *based* on his foreknowledge. The Bible is clear that people have free will to choose Jesus or reject Him. God looks into the future and knows exactly who will ultimately choose Him in the end, therefore He chooses them those people to be the elect. In this view of God's predestination, there is room for freewill of the human. In fact, God's predestination is *based* on the humans choice. But Calvanism teaches that God ordains what a person choices are. No matter how much Calvanists will try to convince you that they *do* believe in freewill of the human, there is simply no room for freewill to fit in the doctrine. In Calvanism, humans are simply God's puppets and pre-programmed robots to do everything He destined them to do, without choosing anything for themselves. In Calvanism, every human on earth essentially doesn't use their brain to choose between salvation and damnation, instead God is controlling their minds and the choices they make from Heaven.

Dr Brown jumping from John 3:16 to John 17 (or 1 John) to define world is just one reason to question his diligence on this topic. That's NOT how you approach a biblical text, even if the definition was the same in another part of the Bible. That kind of methodology is as faulty as homosexual activists misusing 1 Cor 11 to define nature in Romans 1, and he should know better.
Furthermore, and ironically (Dr Brown chose the chapter), the repetition of a holy action by God Jesus gives in John 17 (ie. "you gave them to me") is a strong argument against what Dr Brown is presenting here. The initiative for faith clearly comes from the Father, not subject to the whims of man.

Most Christians, including Calvinist, don't understand the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross. Scripture says Jesus gave his life as a ransom for many (not all). He offers salvation for "the whole world" does not mean every human being, but that his salvation was not just for Israel but all places in the world geographically.
When Jesus died on the cross for our sins, he made a new covenant for his true followers. He was able to send the Holy Spirit to transform us to righteousness and conquer the flesh nature to set us free from the practice of sin, and it's desires. I think it is possibly even blasphemy against the Holy Spirit when people deny the power of the Holy Spirit to transform us to righteousness.
The Apostle Paul said that we are not in the flesh if the Holy Spirit lives in us.
2 Corinthians 10:3 Paul also tells us that we have been set free from sinful desires: "For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh."
    Isaiah 53:5 says:
"But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds WE ARE HEALED."
Before Jesus came, the law that people lived under could not conquer the flesh nature. That is why people had to sacrifice animals repeatedly.
The cleansing that God provides is not temporary. It is permanent. When he cleanses us from ALL sin, we are made righteous.
    Hebrews 7:27 says:
"He (Jesus) has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself." When Christians repent of their sins daily they don't have the Holy Spirit. They are still living under the Old Covenant, because they can't get clean.
Many Christians mock the Holy Spirit by saying it is impossible to conquer the flesh nature and stop sinning. They don't believe. They are watering down and diminishing the power of the Holy Spirit in their own minds & in the minds of others. They are mocking the miracle of transformation that brings us Salvation.
People flock to false religion due to the corruption in their hearts.
False Christians will dilligently search their bibles looking for loopholes to sin.
1 Peter 2:24 confirms that it is possible to stop sinning:
"He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” When we are healed from the bondage of sin, it is permanent.
"If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."
Scripture describes false converts as continuing in sin, because they deny the power of the Holy Spirit.
2 Timothy 3:5 "Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away."
Scripture gives a strong warning of eternal damnation to those who reject the New Covenant by sinning:
    Hebrews 10:28-29
"Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?"
God's grace does not free us to sin. It does not cover continued sin or future sins. It does not forgive deliberate sin. It frees us from sin. Ungodly Christians reject the gift of righteousness that God offers. False Christians cling to a doctrine of demons that tells them they get to keep their sins, and there is no penalty. This is much more appealing to false converts than the thought of giving up their sins.
John 3:36 jesus said, "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him."
If people can't understand the clear language that Jesus used, perhaps their hearts have become hardened.
God, in his wisdom, does not leave us in a sinful condition, because over time, sin destroys the human conscience. When this happens, they are lost.
We can see evidence of a darkened conscience and a hardened heart when people mock and ridicule the precious gift that Jesus gave up his life to bring to us so that we can recieve righteousness that is required for Salvation.
When Christians reject the New Covenant, Jesus will reject them, and they will have to pay the full penalty that that the Law always required for disobedience under the Old Covenant. That means eternal damnation.

I’m no scholar but I feel like we’re reading our presuppositions into these passages. Jesus Himself condemns those opposed to Him, He says no one can come to Him unless the Father who has sent Him draws them. Only those who are part of the flock hear the Shepherd’s voice. Is God not allowed to choose from His creation who He wishes to save? Because the alternative is that we are the ones doing all the work by humbling ourselves and choosing God over our sin and selfishness. I think the former is more consistently backed up by the whole of scripture. Not just random proof texts interpreted eisegetically. Hope God removes this blind spot for you Dr Brown. Take care.

I would like to ask Dr brown that if God knew what Satan would do, #1 could he have stopped him from being created, #2 could he have stopped him from doing what he did in his rebellion , #3 why didn't he? This is the arminian and semi Pelagian problem that they cannot answer with their doctrine. Can God prevent someone from sinning? Are there examples in the Bible of God preventing people from sinning (overruling free will?) Dustin Paulson
Can you answer the comments/answers given to Michael in this comment thread by Christian brothers who answer it biblically?
The answer is right there in God's word, plain as day.
Here is my/Paul's/God's answer to one of his and many Arminians/synergists objections to the doctrine of election and predestination unto salvation and unto damnation; also known as "double predestination", NOT "equal ultimacy". A distinction made by White and other Calvinists many, many times and yet still ignored by Arminians/synergists.
The answer is given to us, just one example, by Paul in Romans 9.
The Arminian/synergist asks the very question that Paul asks using a literary tool called an interlocutor.
Paul, knowing the doctrine and the tension that comes with it, poses an objector in verses 14 "What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God's part", Paul's answer to the objector/interlocutor (still verse 14) "By no means!"
And again Paul brings an objector using the interlocutor again in verse 19, "You will say to me then, 'Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?'"
Paul's/God's answer, "But who are you, O man, to answer back to God."
Now I know you don't like those answers. Even as Calvinists, they don't satisfy our fallen, human minds. But there it is in God's word and Calvinists refuse to bring God down to mans understand and put him in the box of fallen mans intellec and understanding.
We don't claim to know HOW this is but we do clearly see it in God's word and therefor we believe it.

Calvinism is based on HUMAN philosophy and as such it interprets the scriptures through a fogged distorted and imperfect lens while on the other hand , an spiritually guided (Holy Spirit) interpretation can not be defined in human philosophical terms, spiritually inspired texts must and ONLY can be interpreted spiritually with the guidance of the Holy Spirit!.
That's exactly why calvinism is full of theological errors and huge misconceptions of God's nature which leads to a distorted view of God's plan of redemption and salvation, calvinism is NOT the gospel plain and simple!.

He would know that in His infinite wisdom and knowledge; you are correct. Yet knowing that, He still made a way for ALL people to receive salvation through Jesus Christ because of His infinite love. What Dr. Brown is addressing is the Calvinist teaching that only SOME were meant to receive salvation while the rest were created to perish - kinda like saying some are on the guest list, others are not, and the list can’t be changed. The Bible clearly states that God desires that ALL come to repentance.

The ultimate answer is found in the life and death of our Saviour. Did God ordain that He should be rejected...... yes. Was He rejected..... yes. God ordained that He should be killed by crucifixion..... was He killed by crucifixion...... yes. You can see where this is going so the answer is that God ordains all things that come to pass and no event in history was more evil than the only innocent person in history being brutally killed at the hands of wicked men and YET God is not the author of evil and man is FULLY responsible..... Yet it was ordained to come to pass..... Both are true, what we have is a paradox. Paul puts it best at the end of Romans 11 when he says; ‘.... who can know the mind of the Lord?’ It’s a rhetorical question.

This is the ultimate stance of Calvinism. God ordains evil, yet it pains him. God wishes all to come to repentance, yet he predestines some for destruction. God ordains the choices of man, yet they choose to do them.
We don't understand how these can all be true, yet the Bible says them, so we believe them.

No Jesus did not contradict himself. If you read further down in John 17 Jesus expands his prayer, which had only been for the 12 disciples, to include the world. He says, neither I pray for these alone but for all those who will believe through their word. And that’s the problem with proof texting. Verses get taken out of context when you don’t read the passages before the proof text and after the proof text.
Here is refutation of the Calvinist claims about the potter and the clay, and about vessels of wrath fitted for destruction from Romans 9:
Jeremiah 18 is the potter and clay chapter, which is actually the scripture that Paul is referring to in Romans 9.
It refutes the Calvinist Romans 9 narrative, completely.
The potter and clay, and Jacob and Esau, is about NATIONS not individuals.
As Rebecca was told in Genesis 25:23 concerning her pregnancy: two nations are in your womb (Edom came from Esau, and Israel came from Jacob)
And ISRAEL, the nation from Jacob is the clay on the potters wheel, not ANY individual person destined to wrath or destruction - and as Jeremiah 18 shows us, God gives mercy on whom He wills - and He wills to have mercy on those who repent.
      The Potter and the Clay.
Jer 18:1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
Jer 18:2 Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
Jer 18:3 Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
Jer 18:4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
Jer 18:5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Jer 18:6 O house of ISRAEL , cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
Who’s on the potters wheel? Esau?
      No. Israel is.
The Romans 9 account of Jacob and Esau is not about those two as individuals, but as progenitors of two nations.
We also find in Jeremiah 18 that when the potter speaks blessing over any NATION and they turn evil, God takes back his blessing and punishes that nation, and also when the potter considers a nation a vessel fit for destruction and they repent, He changes His mind about punishing them.
No nation (or person) is predestined to destruction.
      Jer 18:7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a NATION, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to DESTROY it;
Jer 18:8 If that NATION, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will REPENT of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
      Jer 18:9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a NATION, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
Jer 18:10 If it do EVIL in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will REPENT of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.
This is the opposite of the reformed doctrine predestination narrative. The fate of the nations is dependent on what they do, not on being predestined to be vessels of wrath, fitted for destruction, and the Romans 9 potter and clay passage is not about predestination of individuals to hell, or to salvation.
God will have mercy on whom He will - and His will is He has mercy whenever there is repentance, and takes back His mercy, if they turn to doing evil.
That God changes His mind based on what a nation does (repentance) or doesn’t do right (turns to evil) absolutely wrecks reformed election doctrines.
BTW, the fact God hated Esaus but loved Jacob is used as proof that Esau was of the unlucky non elect, predestined to hell and damnation.
In reality that statement by God about Esau is a well known idiom to the Jews, that means to love less, not to literally hate - which is easily proven by Jesus telling us in Luke 14,:that unless we hate our mother and father, we aren’t worthy to be His disciples.
It’s obvious that Jesus isn’t teaching us to violate the command to honor our mother and father, or violate the law of love that Jesus proclaimed, that we must love our neighbors as ourselves.
Jesus is saying that we must love Him the most, and love our parents less:
Luk 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
God loved Esau less than Jacob, he did not literally hate him
And Jeremiah 18 refutes the Calvinist imposing of it’s erroneous doctrines of.election into Romans 9, and turning it into the predestination of Jacob unto salvation, and Esau to damnation, and making it into God only having mercy on the elect, while having no mercy for individuals predestined to be vessels fitted for destruction and hell, and hating them, too.
We’ve seen that God has mercy on those who repent, and takes back His mercy from those who turn to evil.

@chadkincham sorry in my answer i was not saying that Jesus contradicted himself , but that the guy that was speaking in the video contradicted himself.
and maybe that romans 9 is not talking about predestination , but the Bible talks about predestination from before the foundation of the world i don't know about the rest. Bible also talks about elected people. God is not unjust cause he elects people. but in our 3 pound brain it seems like it. God chose to reveal .
It is said in john when peter says that Jesus is the Christ, that he did not discover that from the flesh but from the father, that means it is God that puts his spirit inside of us that makes us alive and able to have faith and respond in faith to what is preached to us.. i did not ( understand the gospel) th holy spirit made me alive spiritually so i can put my faith in God, so it is the work of God and not of myself so that nobody woud boast, like ephesians 2:8 says it. :) God bless you my bretheren thanks for your answer

An exegesis of Roman's 3 shows perfectly these three points. Gods righteousness does not depend on our righteousness or lack off, Gods righteousness is displayed through his law, and finally we can not live up to his righteousness. Therefore, it is not that man cant choose to be good but they are physically incapable to do so. The question falls apart in many aspects: the individual can not be perfect even if he chooses, that despite creaturly will Gods sovereign decree will always come into completion and no man can prevent it, and finally to imply that ultimately God is somewhat responsible for allowing sinful creatures is a total contradiction to the whole premise of Grace. Therefore, through the hearts of sinful dead totally depraved men, God is the only one that can turn their hearts of stone to flesh, and he does it out of His Will and His good pleasure for His eternal glory

I’m confused as to how you went from man not being able to be righteous to concluding that he is therefore totally depraved?
Can a dead man believe the Gospel? Is he capable of doing so?
You know that many men kept much of the law. Can we keep one commandment, the one that states we should believe on the Lord?

    • @user-jk2po3cz7d

@@evanu6579 Evan U Evan U because anything but righteousness is totally different from God. Therefore a theological concept of total depravity revolves around the solid truth that God should display his wrath justly to a sinner, for by the nature of sin, God totally abhors it. Therefore, a sinner is totally depraved, due to the high degree of Gods righteousness.
Second, no a dead man can not come to life by himself, it is only through the grace of God. Jesus did not ask for Lazarus permission to resurrect him, Jesus did it bring Glory to God.
Finally, "most of the law" is a bankrupt statement. For James in his epistle stated:
For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.
      James 2:10
Therefore, with this in mind, the smallest glitch in our flesh is enough to set us under Gods Justice. See that we can not gratify God through our good works, for they are all filthy rags unto the Lord. The only good and perfect work was the Messiah boring the sins of those who will come to faith. Therefore, how can a dead man be brought to faith? John 6 answers it perfectly:
No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. It is written in the Prophets, 'And they will all be taught by God.' Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me- not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father.

I’m not understanding your first point.
With the second point, I didn’t ask if a dead man can make himself alive. Of course that’s the work of God. I asked if a dead man can believe as a prerequisite for God making him alive.
The third point wasn’t me saying that there is some sort of merit in keeping part of the law. I was making the point that since men are capable of not murdering as condemned by the law, wouldn’t a man be capable of believing as commanded in the new covenant? Perfection isn’t required to be deemed righteous in the new covenant. Faith is required. It seems like you’re conflating the two.

As for John 6:44, what does it mean that whoever is taught of God and learns comes to Christ? Is it the responsibility of the man to “learn” so that he will be drawn by the Father?
In other words, can you hear but refuse to learn or hear but decide to learn?

    • @user-jk2po3cz7d
      @user-jk2po3cz7d 5 років тому +1

@@evanu6579 with all love and respect brother, you have some major categorical error.
For the first point: whoever had ears let him hear.
Second point: you have a major misconception concerning the idea of being "dead in sin." If you are dead in sin, it is impossible for you to produce light in your darkness. I understand you are forcing synergism, however the act of redemption does not involve the will of man, nor does God's sovereignty depend on a mans will. It is meant to show grace for his good pleasure. Therefore, when he calls you, it's when you feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit, and start believing.
The point if the new covenant is that you can not please God, due to our totally depravity. (Romans 1-3) therefore it is now God working through us. Those in their disbelief are unfortunately not able to please God, no matter of their merits.
Lastly, it is not up to the individual. God makes himself known to whoever he pleases. Those who know Christ is because the father drawed him. Thus genuine coming of faith produces genuine learning and knowledge of the one true God. That is what it is teaching.

I believe 1 John 4:7-21 explains it pretty well.
Verse 19 says that before we loved God, he loved us first. In Acts 10:34 we find that he doesn’t exclude anyone from the message of the gospel. In my opinion, there’s biblical support for telling people that God loves them, but what is often forgotten is that God wants them to repent them of their sins. God loving people doesn’t mean he loves them remaining in their sinful ways, he loves them despite it.
