Being a programmer with an Asian heritage, I relate a lot to what you say and think. I came here when I was 4 from Korea but unfortunately can speak only English well. I still try to study Korean but picking up another language doesn’t come as easy for me as picking up another computer language.
I didn't know your parents are in Japan right now - that's kinda tough especially at this COVID-19 time. I hope your parents and your family in Japan are all doing well, as you are doing in San Diego. BTW I've never watched 探偵ナイトスクープ yet; for a Tokyoite like me, it's a local program of Kansai :)
Although this is a very unpopular hobby among programmers (since most programmers are into musical instruments), but have you ever thought of at least trying your hand in drawing any anime characters or making your manga?
I've always wondered how people stay in touch with their heritage when they don't grow up in the nation from which their culture hails. My family has been in America since the 1600s, so my culture is about as American as you can get.
Pierre Berton:”Do you still think of yourself as Chinese or do you ever think of yourself as North American?” Bruce Lee:"You know what I think of myself? As a human being, because I mean I don't want to be like as Confucius say, but under the sky, under the heavens, there is but one family. It just so happens that people are different." -Bruce Lee:The Lost Interview(1971)
It's too broad to determine. Plus the Kinki region is not limited to just Keihanshin areas... As for her dialect, again it depends on where in the Kinki region her parents were actually from. Note that Kansai Ben is just a generalization of the entire Kinki dialect group. Even Osaka Ben has its own sub-dialects as well...... The only apparent thing in her JP speak is the Keihan accent even when spoken in standard lingo (ie. hyoujungo), according to other viewers......
Do you pronounce your name with an American accent because you want to, or because it's easier for your audience? How do you usually pronounce your name? (just curious)
I do so because I've done so for years, I guess. It's definitely easier for Engilsh speakers to pronounce it the way that I do in the intro, but in Japanese the emphasis is definitely different. I'm still glad that I have a Japanese name even if it's sounds "foreign" to most Americans; I know that some Asian American folks benefit from changing their name or having an English name from the get-go, but a English-y pronunciation of my Japanese name feels like a good compromise for me. Also, the two different pronunciations almost speak to the different sides of my identity and the context switching I'm constantly doing between the two.

Soul food is so important. Whenever I go abroad after a few weeks I really start to miss Swiss cheese. Our cheese is not better than good French or Italian cheese but it's the cheese I grew up.
So much fun! The Bokksu link doesn't work by the way, the "and" somehow got concat'ed in the URL. Please do more of your Japanese-only content, it's so cool and so great to get exposure to Japanese media (trying to learn Japanese myself)
The editing is so clean haha. Love the subscribe button graphics and the small pullouts to a small thumbnail overlay / section title~ Also excited to give the spotify playlist a listen 😍 And yay for the talk this weekend excited!
Spent a month in Japan 2018. Was absolutely fantastic. I've spent a lot of time studying human geography and love to explore our different societies. Japan has a rich and unique culture. Great video, Mayuko :)
I am currently working on JLPT N1 (already have all the other ones). The N1 test is pretty nasty due to all the special grammar you often only use in very specific situations. Keep it up :-D
Top three Japanese dramas I've seen recently: 1) 知っているワイフ(Familiar Wife) 2) オ!マイ・ボス!恋は別冊で - (Oh My Boss! ). 3)天国と地獄〜サイコな2人〜 (Heave and Hell)ーAll highly recommended! A new one that I started watching: 高嶺のハナさん(Takane no Hana-san) which is quite funny!

Mayuko is mine.
Mayuko, the link is garbled with the space and "and". Maybe it's just Google's AI.
It seems like EVERY Japanese-oriented channel is now pimping Bokksu. LoL!

I don't understand much Japanese at all, but I will go and subscribe to your second channel to support you, Mayuko!
Good to see that people are trying to stay in touch with their culture in this evolving world.

If your native dialect is Kansae-ben then I'm guessing your parents are from Osaka-Kobe-Kyoto region, the cultural part of Japan ?

Do you feel like most Japanese translations don’t do justice to the original?
Listen to WAGAKKI BAND. ( Much better than J-pop stuff. )
you should do a video only speaking in Japanese.
Koreans and Japanese people are brothers and sisters.
More curated J-pop please!
Please put or at least hire someone to insert English sub in your Japanese videos. It's helpful for people who are still learning Japanese.

I always know Japanese people are quite conservative while you are not. So yup.
Do you ever get annoyed with non Asians commenting on how good your English is & then you have to explain English is your native tongue?
