Elite Dangerous: Infiltrate the Megaship Datalink - Mission Guide

- Hi Guys, Raith from Blackwood Games Australia here. As you all know by now, I'm fairly new to Elite Dangerous and I have still much to learn but I have a passion for helping others with the things I had to learn myself or piece together. This video is a rough guide for new players who are having issues figuring out where to go and what to do and especially trying to figure out how to properly scan the Datalink once the Megaship is found. Be safe out there guys!
Hi everyone, it seems there is a lot of confusion as to how to find the ship in the first place. So I am going to make a few pointers to help.
1. Go to the system where the mission is located.
2. Scan the Nav becon for the system.
3. Enter into Framshift and open your NAV panel.
4. Look on that panel for the name of the ship you are looking for
5. Target and go to the location.
6. At the location, get your hardpoints on that have a Scanner
7. Scan the ENTIRE ship
8. Get closer and you will see the contacts for EACH part of the ship on your nav panel.
9. Get within 200m of the Data Relay and get your hardpoints up again and scan..
10. Put your hardpoints away and run for the hills
i did two of these missions and everything works fine. and a usefull note . if you cant find the mega ship dont scan the navigation beacon . use fss scanner. scan everything and then look at the navigation panel . the ship must be at points of interest panel
Thank you! It might seem easy but for new players it really helps. Last night I could not complete the mission, I had my hardpoints configured and could not scan. I can now see what I was missing is targeting the ship. Also, visiting the nav beacon is not so obvious to the new players, but I did manage to do that on my own. Thanks again.

Pretty straightforward mission, and even better explanation from you friend! Thanks for explaining these to me. Some offer pretty and plenty rewards like materials and feared I’d have to engage in combat :x

After watching your video I eventually found the Ship Log Uplink, Thank you.
However, every time I approach I find a battle starts up around the Megaship. Before watching your video I had already searched the megaship and all the fighting ships had ignored me, but now as I got closer to the uplink I also came under fire. My shields only lasted a few seconds and I was down to 45% hull as I boosted out of the area. They did not follow. Once my shields recovered I tried again but was quickly attacked again as I got closer.
This was a "Threat Level 0" mission so I was not expecting this.

Nothing popped up after scanning the nav becon for me, i supercrused to see if i could see it on my contacts or my nav and nothing comes up. I even read everything one by one thinking maybe it didn't turn blue....it's just...not in the system it says it is. This game is incredibly frustrating. I waste hours every day on broken missions.
Sometimes I find it's best to scan the becon, then you look on your navigation panel. If you turn around and look at the quest you'll see the name of the ship you're looking for. Once you have done that you can go through all the ships in the system and find the one you want. I have had to do that multiple times. When you drop out of cruise you'll find that the mission auto updates if you're at the right ship
@@BlackwoodGamesAU Damn that's a lot of work. I saw on Reddit someone said they had to get into the atmosphere of each planet of the system and then it would show his target ship lol. I think i'm going to avoid these missions for now. Thank you for the help.
use fss scaner . scan everything then go to navigation panel / points of interest

I did one of these missions and scanned the ship log. Returned to the port where I got the mission but there is no mission hand in area available. Where do you hand these in?
Usually you can hand it in from your ship, your mission log will tell you if it's done or not. Good luck commander
@@BlackwoodGamesAU Thank you. I forgot to update. I found out that the quest must have been bugged because I took another mission and it worked just fine. The particular one (which was my very first one) happened to bug so I had to abandon!
I think I’m having the same issue with the mission being bugged as well, like not being able to hand it in from my ship or the log saying the mission is still active
Why can't I scan the bloody ship? I don't know if it makes any difference that I don't have a mission to do it. I just wanted to steal some shield upgrade materials via recon limpet.
But when I lock onto the ship, no matter what distance I'm at, the data link scanner says it is out of range. I cannot do the initial scan you did.
Seems to be a popular issue to deal with targeting the correct mission and zoning in and out
So I took 2 of these missions, I went and did the first one and it all worked just like in this video. When I tried to do the second one I discovered it was the same ship. My scan of the log failed because it said I already did it. There are several of these missions available but they all go to the same ship. Can you only do this mission once?!

sort and to the point... but for me, a newbie with under 30 hrs in-game is still not clear how to find the ship... you mention the Nav beacon at 3:45 but you didn't how how the nv beacon will show us the ship we're looking for...
Nav becons are usually right under the star when you zone into the Galaxy Cluster. Hit navigation and filter it for Nav. It will give you the co ords
@@BlackwoodGamesAU thanks for following up with me on this... I've eventually figured it out about the nav beacon and how it works, looks to me it's like a device that keeps logs on all the ships entering the system at least for the last hours or so...
Sadly I kinda lost my interest in ED because of too much grinding... it's a fascinating space simulation but needs a lot of improvement... and the always grinding to accomplish something significant is a big turn off for me... I barely log in once a month just to look at my Anaconda or Python in a hangar... I can't stand the fact they don't have a third person view while we're using the ships...the free camera and photo mode doesn't count, will break the immersion while doing whatever it is we are doing with our ships when not sitting in the hangar...
The grinding mentality and no third person views is a big no no for me...
I feel you, very time consuming. I mostly just focused on the end goal of exploring and broke that down into small things. When or if I go back, I'll be focused on one thing at a time
The trick is very much to break things up into tasks but I did feel the grind and absolutely felt the burnout which required me to take a huge break.
Two different ships in a row, I successfully scanned the Ship Log link, got some data, but did NOT get the "mission complete" message. Bugged?
Not sure... sometimes it can be confusing when you run a full scan on the point you think is the data link but isn't. You also should 100% know by ships warping in to blow you to hell

you assume that nav beacon shows us the target butit doesn't.
As I said in the video, you can look at all the local targets on your ship and also look for the name if you get stuck. The Nav beacon allows you to see those targets. Apologies if I wasn't more clear

Data link scanner dont work. Just no reation on button at all.
Did you try getting closer... within 100m with your website down. I almost have to have my nose on it to scan
For the initial scan or scanning ship parts? For me it doesn't do the initial scan at all.
I'm so confused right now. I have no idea where these things are located.

i still cant do it. i deployed hardpoints targetted and everything. is there a different set of hardpoints i need to use or a button im missing??? gonna throw my computer out the window soon
Bind your non combat hardpoints. You can use your analysis computer to scan... it's not your weapon hardpoints. It's the scanner. Computer scanner iirc

You could try getting the Nav becon and then filtering through all the ships and looking for the names? Make sure you have the objective active

Haven't played the game in a long time, so I tried doing this mission. Found the ship, could find the data link, ended up being attacked and destroyed just trying to find it. Now I remember why I stopped playing this crappy game.
@Paul if you hit anything or take any aggressive action on your way in you'll summon the ships that come to attack. The trick is to scan the point without hitting the ship or crashing into it whilst looking for the data point. You'll have a few split seconds to boost the hell outta there and activate fsd
