Sure... if you ignore everything that happened in the 21st century Space Race up 'til now. 360 Falcon 9 launches, first booster propulsive soft landing and now 330 booster landings, boosters re-launched 20 times, Commercial Resupply and Commercial Crew missions to the ISS, 80% of all the spacecraft and mass to orbit in the last year launched by SpaceX, 6,000 Starlink satellites in low earth orbit providing low-latency internet to remote areas, ... "Yeah, but what have you done for us lately? When will the biggest super heavy-lift rocket ever made stop crashing and enter operation?!!" Tough crowd 😉
Two (Blue Origin vs SpaceX) very different approaches to manufacturing and both totally different than how Saturn V was built, with all the major components subcontracted to different suppliers. Gotta give both companies props for designing and building boosters AND upper stages.

It has been so difficult to get excited for New Glenn, because BO was doing everything behind closed doors. With this tour the doors are open and I cannot wait for the launch of this monster.
It's sad that KSP2 collapsed and the multi-player mode never got to exist. That would be an incredible charity event with Jeff, Elon, Peter, Tory, and more doing a big team or competing teams creating rockets and spacecraft to meet a wide variety of challenges.
I wonder if Jeff has ever watched any attempts videos regarding many various rocket engines. My guess this is Tim has far more in death knowledge at this point than Jeff does. Not taking anything from Jeff but there's no way to learn the subject like teaching it!

35:40 I love this wholesome moment. Jeff talking about the spacex booster landing area. It’s almost like he is acknowledges the massive achievement by Spacex without shying away from naming the achiever.
I've got some more respect for BO after this tour. Both as to their progress and just as kind of a willingness to show where they are at (finally). You can definitely tell a big difference where this facility looks like it will be a slower, a few a year on production, but done so in that legacy way where everything is tested 30 times. Which is fine. Compared to Starship which looks like it will build 10 a week, which is awesome too. From this interview I also feel both companies have a different vision as well.
It's so interesting to see how differently SpaceX and Blue approach everything. SpaceX had to hit the ground running and bring in contracts and revenue from the start, while Blue could largely afford to take its time because Jeff's bankrolling it, giving Blue the luxury to put a lot of focus on specific things, like infrastructure, etc. and take their time developing everything
Keep in mind this was recorded like 3 months ago. They have been getting things done at a record pace, for blue.. not for SpaceX. lol but we all love to see it!

@@zaretya9091 Okay. That's a weird approach. It could be a bold move, if it works out, but it could also be quite stupid in hindsight, if it fails. This is literally rocket science and many things could go wrong, even after testing.
I wish I had that tower view in the 60s into the 70s. Dad took me to the cape in the mid 1970s when most all of the missile row towers were still intact. An Atlas and a Titan blockhouse were on the tour as well as complex 5/6.
Some people are all about SPACEX, others are about BlueOrigin. I’m just excited we get to be alive to witness the building of the space industry, with such incredible engineering all around.
The thing that comes across the most to me with Blues complex is the look of quality build. Everything looks like heavy industrial quality like you see in construction, because you need things to work, and have easy repair ability. Their pad looks like something that actually may work for "Rapid Reusability". The other thing that is clear, is that the Cap is THE American space port. A national effort was launched (no pun intended) to create that amazing place, and it clearly has the necessary infrastructure and vastness for such an endeavor. It wont be very long before all 50 launch sites at the Cape will be in use 24/7. Wernher Von Braun, and Robert Goddard will be smiling.
Thats what I was thinking looking at the launch pad infrastructure, it looks sophisticated, like it's ready let the thing go up right now and survive it without a rebuild. Hard to tell if and how much of the lessons Space X learned from their first launched were incorporated. 😅
@@Ganiscol SpaceX built the BC infrastructure at the same time as their prototypes, so they've taken the quick and dirty route, at least at first. BO had a finished design approach, while SX is doing the so called "iterative design" thing. SX launch infrastructure will be just as temporary as the prototype phase of Starship.
@@hawkdsl Blue Origin has more R&D money than SpaceX. Every year, Musk has to ask for investors to give him money to keep SpaceX open, Bezos doesn't have that problem. So, Blue Origin is able to do things right the first time.

"Excitement guaranteed" is turning into the "With great power comes great responsibility" of rocket company CEOs. Each reboot/guy remixes the quote.
Id laugh if he started using "an order of magnitude "
I worked at Kennedy Space center renovating the shuttle launch pad 39A shortly after the a challenger disaster, it was surreal working on the that launch pad which has so much history behind it.
The scale in these videos is dizzying and i'm here for it, love you Tim, stay healthy, more spacewalk podcasts!! they're essential listening

The technical homework sure, but the way he speaks, its more like talking to an interviewer/audience who is not familiar with this stuff.
Jeff has given a great talk in this interview. You can't learn that much about rocketry in a day or two. He clearly understands that because it's his passion🎖
They only began making real progress after Jeff devoted the time to run things on a daily basis. He’s not the designer or engineer, he IS the manager making it all happen. Great interview Tim!

I've worked with a lot of good CEOs, and they are usually switched on. There's a common misconception that CEOs are pencil pushers. I've known quite a few as a business consultant and I managed the design of a large casino once. I used to spend made hours going over plans with the CEO, down to the very fine detail of even where paging transmitters would go for optimal coverage just as one example.
Wow, JB gets a bad rap publicly. He seems to be genuinely excited and cordial with TD. Thanks guys.
He only had kids and cheated on one wife of his, unlike Elon 😂
Im supporting him in this work, but the reason he had a bad rap is because he tried to stop SpaceX at every turn. A lot more could be accomplished is these companies would support each other

Can't wait for all of them to fly, things are going to get crazy soon.
Sure... if you ignore everything that happened in the 21st century Space Race up 'til now. When will the biggest super heavy-lift rocket ever made stop crashing and enter operation?!!"

Two (Blue Origin vs SpaceX) very different approaches to manufacturing and both totally different than how Saturn V was built, with all the major components subcontracted to different suppliers. Gotta give both companies props for designing and building boosters AND upper stages.

@@os10v311You could not be more wrong. SpaceX use Agile design, BO use the waterfall model. The latter has a history of failures with big projects. Just look at Starliner. SpaceX are able to optimise the design, based on actual flight experience with test articles. Werner von Braun had lots of explosions during the development of the A4/V2 rocket.

It has been so difficult to get excited for New Glenn, because BO was doing everything behind closed doors. With this tour the doors are open and I cannot wait for the launch of this monster.
A billionare KSP rocket building competition would be fun to watch...
It's sad that KSP2 collapsed and the multi-player mode never got to exist. That would be an incredible charity event with Jeff, Elon, Peter, Tory, and more doing a big team or competing teams creating rockets and spacecraft to meet a wide variety of challenges.
Musk vs Bezos is going to be way more fun and interesting than USA vs Russia in the cold war. Capitalism-driven innovation for the win.

Same thing on the elon musk interview

That’s a sign of a good interviewer. There’s a very good reason Tim lands these interviews.
I wonder if Jeff has ever watched any attempts videos regarding many various rocket engines. My guess this is Tim has far more in death knowledge at this point than Jeff does. Not taking anything from Jeff but there's no way to learn the subject like teaching it!

Bezos talked in some detail about building component manufacturing pace and building a second launch pad to maintain launch cadence.
