It feels as though space flight is soon approaching a renaissance which will vastly change the economy, and how space is interacted with and used on a scale so much greater than ever before. Yeah escapade isn’t launching until next year, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that blue is serious about getting to orbit and doing their homework. I wish the teams at blue origin and SpaceX the best of luck because at the end of the day if both starship and new Glenn succeed it will be better for everyone.

I actually designed and supervised the construction of a cold temp storage tank system about 25 years ago. The tank sat on two pillars and one side had a Teflon sleeve that would allow the tank to slide along as it grew or shrank with temperature changes. If we didn't do that, the ambient temp tank secured to both pillars would cause severe damage and probably fail somewhere when it was cooled to -20 C. It was a "cool" project and completely new to me at the time. Interesting to see the same considerations when transferring LOX and LPG.

Several years ago I was able to take a tour of the launch facilities on Canaveral "Air Force" Base (at the time) when Blue Origin had just taken over this launch complex. We were told at that time Blue Origin engineers were struggling to compact the soil/sand to build the launch pad strong enough. When we stopped at LC-5 to see the blockhouse and launch pad for Shepard's Mercury flight, an Blue Origin engineer was there searching the blockhouse to see if there was any documents about the construction of these launch complexes.
The information lost between the early days of the space race to now is staggering. So much innovation was done at such a fast pace it was not documented in a way to last, so when the engineers left (and pass away) the information was lost.

Spacex is out building new pads with more complex designs, and BO struggled to do basic ground preparation? It explains why they are so far behind. BO was always going to be ran like crap when people experienced as a traditional cost plus contractor got the executive positions.
"the information was lost." It was not lost, this is an example of how poorly BO is ran. The money went to management instead of engineers.

Everything looks like heavy industrial quality like you see in construction, because you need things to work, and have easy repair ability. Their pad looks like something that actually may work for "Rapid Reusability". The other thing that is clear, is that the Cap is THE American space port. A national effort was launched (no pun intended) to create that amazing place, and it clearly has the necessary infrastructure and vastness for such an endeavor. I haven’t been to KSC since 2019, but to see the new launch facilities of Blue Origin and the New Glenn, I’m impressed.
I am a SpaceX fan, but there is plenty of room for multiple commercial launch companies and Blue Origin is a great addition.
Jeff has really won me over with his knowledge, time and investment.
On the 2019 visit to the Air Force Base launch sites, it was pretty depressing that everything was so old, forgotten and barren. I’m excited to go back and see all of the changes. GO Blue Origin! 🖖🏼
