First time I ever saw a spray gun taken apart..I don't know how many good ones I probably have walked by at flea markets or garage sales ..Sure looks nice with the new cup..
I remember my Grandpa was studying stocks to buy, and he decided Binks was a good one, due to the quality of their products. I have one of the Harbor Freight knock offs, had it since the 80s, as long as you clean it out well it keeps working ok.
I'm going to paint my 1964 Triumph Spitfire -- British Racing Green in acrylic lacquer. So I saw this video, went on ebay, found 2 Binks model 7 with cups for $85 delivered. They're a tad rough...... I think with this video I get one good 7 and maybe both.
This was a awesome video! I am old school too and I have the "import" No.7 knock-off I bought back in '82 maybe? I love that design, just keep it clean and they work! I sprayed my '51 Pontiac Chieftain with it! =) I think you got a good deal on these guns, if parts were missing then it's a different story. It was super windy there fr the test! LOL Great stuff!
Yeah Ebay sucks, it's different if someone makes an honest mistake, which happens!! But I bought a Seeburg Wallbox (jukebox) that looked great and the guy didn't show pictures of the inside because he said he didn't have the key!! When I got it I opened it up and all the guts were missing!!☺
The Binks model seven did set the standard so much that you can buy a $40 Nesco siphon gun and a $50 Binks rebuild kit and have a Binks M7 for $200 less.
I thought of you when I decided to do this!! I didn't think it would be too interesting, but I remembered I said I would make a video of it and I'm glad I did!!☺
still one of the most used gun I'm sure first gun I ever got was a binks #7 mom got it for me for like 15 bucks back in 1990 or 1991 think I have around 7 or 8 binks #7 guns
Great spray gun video. Glad you got it fixed and put back together so it works well for you. However I can take an expensive gun and do a bad spray job. I just don't have the knack of proper mixing and seeing the correct wetness. Either to dull or look at that run. But I do very little spraying so that's my excuse. You have it down perfectly. Thanks for sharing.
The botton screw was for an optional air pressure regulator. You did a good job. I have the Binks Bullows 920, the touch up gun. Want to see how it performs against, the modern Iwata's and Devilbiss SRi Pro lite.
I just looked at the gun my grandfather used to use. That screw on the bottom you were talking about looks really mangled. Like he tried to drill it out and extract it. Wonder what its for. Hopefully not something i’ll need to use. Works well otherwise. Thanks for the video.
Nice video I was cleaning mine up the other day and the trigger broke do you have any idea of where I may find one because I love this old gun. Thank you
Nice job RK. Hey, if you have a slightly loose 9/16 try a 14mm. It's a few thou smaller and might help. I did some painting today. I used a brush though! Mart.
Thanks and good timing as I am just getting into the spray painting area of restorations. I have a lot to learn. Would you mind sharing how you attached the leather to the sheet metal that you use in the jaws of your vise?
You crack me up Matt Matt!! You're not gonna damage a stainless steel needle by pushing a few loose paint chips with it!! If they were that delicate there wouldn't be a working spray gun in the country!!☺
Do you have any advice on repainting the gun body? I've got one with a few gouges out of the original black enamel (?) paint I'd love to repair. Haven't been able to find a source online for the oem paint.
The stuff I was using turned out to work OK!! What I thought was rust, was muddy residue!! I knocked the heavy rust off the other nozzle and the stuff worked great!!☺
I bought two model 7's from eBay, had one since 1984 I had to refurbish because someone returned it to me seized up. When I connect them to the compressor they leak air out the nozzle, that's not normal. Are you able to check them out for me or repair them?
Nah, I haven't sold anything on Ebay in years but the last time I used it ya got like 15 free pictures, then it was like 15¢ for any additional ones!!☺
I have one of these I bought from a auction to paint machinery. Need to figure out how to use it. Long video. I hope I can get something out of this video.
Everett I watch a fair amount of engereering channels Abomb79, Keith Rucker, the good of the land Just to mention a few and they all swear by evaporust to clean thier rusty stuff and from what I have seen on the many channels it seems to be the best environmentally safe rust remover around it might be worth some investigating Tony from Western Australia.
@@805ROADKING Everett looking at your video and the "fluid" you had in the tin and the time you had the parts in it Evaporust being used on the channels I mentioned and a lot of the stuff they where doing was Really crusty with excellent results it couldnt hurt to give it a sample try and especially for some of your old engines you do up. BTW I am enjoying the restoration of the truck very much are you going to tell us what colour you are going to paint it and what about the engine Gearbox and diff rebuilding them grin or are you going to put a diesel in it? Tony
I'm pausing to make a comment. EBay IS full of crooks and that's why it's good to question them and give negative feedback if they won't work with you so others know what kind of seller they are. I continue now. End of pause.
You're right Bud!! I've come across my fair share of Shysters!! Sometimes it more aggravating to deal with it than just take it up the keister and move on!! Luckily this one worked out for me!!☺
It's amazing how lead paint lasts longer than regular water based ones now. Good old hand written signs still standing 💪
Yeah Buddy!! ☺
I've had my #7 since 1976, still the best gun I've ever used.
First time I ever saw a spray gun taken apart..I don't know how many good ones I probably have walked by at flea markets or garage sales ..Sure looks nice with the new cup..
Thanks Buddy!! I see alot at the Fleas too, they're all Gabbage!! Most of them are all $30 guns when they were new!!☺
Good going Roady. New gun and cup. Time for some new memories
Yeah Buddy!! ☺
That shiny cup's been waitin' 16 years for that gun!
Mighty fine revival!
We used Binks to spray gel coat. Back when I used to work in boat shops in the early 90's.
Nice work Mr. President!!! Cheers!!
Thanks Mr Secretary!! Good to hear from you!! I still watch your live streams, I just don't comment!!☺

Remember Earl Scheib $29 paint job? Thanks for the video, RK.
$29.95
Yeah Buddy!! When I was a Kid my neighbor got an Earl Scheib job!! They painted over everything, bumpers, mirrors, grill, emblems!!☺
Those Binks gun are get guns and worth saving. Most parts are readily available. Good going Bud
Thanks Lloyd!! The other gun cleaned up real good too!! What I thought was rust was just mud!!☺
Thanks just bought a rebuild kit for mine still prefer use it over the new style ones

Grandpa knew what he was doing!! There's a reason they've been around for 130 years!!☺
I'm up late tonight RoadKing! Excellent Tutorial Indeed! She's a Beauty! TY couldn't ask for more! ...Newk from Kentucky
Thanks for staying up to watch us Newk!!☺
I didn't expect you to work on a spray gun and thank you for the history lesson. Now I can say Roadking did a gun video.

Thanks Bud!!☺
If Binks Model 7 will work now then you are generous. Good work, keep it up.
Thanks Bud!!☺
I have the same gun. Had it since 1980
I thought I heard a tear drop when you were going down memory paint row :)
You probably did Mike!! That's all we have is memories!!☺
Great video here with an excellent explanation. Used a Binks 370 that was worn out but still worked. You are spot-on about Ebay ripoff people.
That was a lot of work, but you ended up with a good gun out of it. 👍

Me father has been in the paint and body business for 40 years and he has used a model 7 for as long as I can remember
Yeah Buddy!! that Model 7 made alotta painters rich!!☺
Thanks for this - a couple of years ago you mentioned that you had restored one of your paint guns, and I wanted to see the process. Now I have :)

It's held on with contact cement!! I used Dap Weldwood, but I'm sure any good contact cement would work!!☺
@@805ROADKING Good video on the Model 7. Thanks for the tip on the soft jaws.
You had a piper colt?
Yeah Buddy!! Search "Vintage Piper Colt Footage" you'll see me in action 32 years ago!!☺
Do they make a rebuild kit. I need one
what's the difference between model 7 and bbr7
Why on earth would you use the point of the needle, which is one of the most important parts of the gun and use it to dig at the packing ?

I'm glad your NOT a A/P mechanic working on the fuel systems' on my turbine R 66 LOL BTW SS in NOT impervious to being scratched or nicked.

It was interesting to see what's inside those guns! I've had good luck with evapo-rust for getting rust off of steel.
