As a Senegalese who was born and raised in Thailand because I’m also Thai I’ve always seen the picture of bamba growing up whenever we would gather around the Senegalese community for Quran and some sort of dhikr. I visited Touba in 2011 as a kid and was invited into the home of the founder because my father was one of their best students. At that time I was still too young to communicate in foreign languages or innerstand the importance of where I was (they even bestowed a name upon me at that time which I try to reject, but for some time I start to accept it was Sohkna Amy Chiekh), but with the knowledge of Bambas system of education I now overstand how deeply I’m aligned to this path and how deeply it’s been resonating within me throughout my whole life. I am 20 now and yes i will livicate my actions towards a reform process that betters the world, but only Allah knows what impact I will make and how I will get there. 16:21

He's not THAT unknown :) Also, I have studied West African Sufism a lot in particular, writing both my Bachelor's and Master's theses on the topic, so I am very familiar with Ahmadou Bamba!
Even though I have never known all these details (fantastic vid) - it is actually impossible to not know about him if one is around Senegalese & Gambian people … he had such an impact on Senegambia culture as a whole …
I personally read about this Issue 8 years ago on Washington post 1996 Chronicle, I am an Ethiopia knowns about this sect of Islam very well and fascinating by your depth intellect analysis . Its always amaz me the amount of material you analysis and presente in such extraordinary way.
I’ve been looking for a decent doc-type video on Bamba for years… Thanks for doing this, and for treating the subject with respect and for applying academic rigor to presentation of all relevant information and proper contextualization, etc etc

You know. I truly thank you for your scholarly research on these historical figures. Its the Black History a large majority of the African American population has never heard here in the US, and would greatly empower them in their struggle for economic stability and peace.
His story is very similar to that of Bediuzzaman Said Nursi in Turkiye, who is also considered a mujaddid and lived around the same time as Ahmadou Bamba. It would be great if you could also make a video about him. Really love your work!
The Murīds of Senegal who know him are quite affectionate of Said Nursi for that reason, especially those who attended the Senegalese Turkish schools ❤ my dear friend and fellow Murīd actually introduced me to him and his works
Very interesting, inspiring and encouraging presentation. Thank you for portraying with such care and detail the spiritual impulses that through this one man laid a beautiful and robust foundation for a society to develop from within colonialism, and find itself so well equipped to resist the temptation of following less meritorious examples from within both the colonized and colonizing nations. As a Christian (Mennonite) practitioner of nonviolence, it is great to have kindred family among Muslim neighbors.
Amazing vid. I’m Senegalese American and I never truly understood the role of Shaykh Ahmadou Bamba until now, nor how prevalent Sufism was in my country. I appreciate its aid in making my native country a peaceful one, though I try to draw a fine line with my family between respecting his teachings and worshiping him. There can sometimes be a blurred line so I want to practice inner peace while still remembering God’s uniqueness and lack of intercession!
I would suggest learning directly from his books or autobiographies written by his contemporary followers. There may a vocal misguided minority within the community which doesn’t mean you have to throw the baby out with the bath water.
Fantastic work. It shows your love and compromise with this subject. Here in Argentina there is a small but thriving comunity of Senegalese emigrees and a lot of them are Mourids. Really nice and hardworking people though prejudice, the language barrier and the absence of comprehensive integration policy create a lot of hardships for them. They attend the local mosques alongisde muslims from others doctrinal trends and they celebrate Bamba's birth too.
Wonderful informative video on Bamba! I was in Senegal in 1999 and 2001/2002 and read about Bamba and Sufism, then went to Magal Touba and stayed in the compund of Cheick Modou Habib, also had deep connection with Baye Fall who i see as my cheick… so mainly Baye Fall. it was magical and i felt a deep connection and love for this culture… though i am actually a buddhist… but i try to study and relate to other religions, specialfly hinduism and sufism on a heart level, seeing that these mystical traditions have the same goal… but use different words and language according to time, place and culture. Actually i see the different religions as different languages describing the same Divine, magical, mystical reality… with the same goal of peace and harmony… arguably with different means… and some more refined than others… but studying and engaging with different religions is important for religious harmony and world peace… all spiritual people should try and study and integrate in a different religion / group… just to expand their heart and mind beyond their own group… to experience the basic humanity and unity that we all share… One Love… beyond duality ✨👌🏽✨♥️✨🔥✨

Thank you for this lecture. Very informative. I heard the name of the Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba for the first time in Youssou Ndour song. Thank you again for this.
Thanks for calling attention to these topics. So many people are ignorant about other cultures and religions. You are doing the Lord's work. I may not be Muslim but it doesn't matter. Everyone should understand religions besides Christianity.
I really loved this video. I knew a little about Muslim non-violent resistance to colonialism in the context of India and Pakistan but I'd not heard Ahmadou Bamba's story before. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

In every religious tradition, there seems to be a contest between pacifistic and militaristic elements. Like mysticism, quietism and relucsion, it pops up everywhere.
I think you will find it is less binary than that. Depends a lot on the context. If you leave Iran alone I am pretty sure they will be passive. If you bomb them then those passive people will become very non-passive.

I thank you so much for you work ! It is so inspiring ... Peaceful coexistence is beautiful and a priority when it's possible... in Palestine it means that the settlers are stealing more and more territory and relegating the natives to second-class citizens with fewer rights and barely enough to survive... the Palestinians didn't react when they saw the settlers arriving en masse because they were pacifists and that's what allowed the settlers to treat them like animals... I'm not saying that taking up arms is the solution for them because the Palestinians have exemplary faith and patience and we are told to be patients with a beautiful patience . The most important lesson to learn from Skeykh Bamba is that we must prioritize purification of the heart if we are to find real solutions to oppression, for Allâh constantly tells us that He does not love injustice. Solutions that we can live up to and that will change the world profoundly. Perhaps a second piece of wisdom to take from Sheykh Bamba's life is that spirituality means action in Islam and it is amazing ! We can see also the propensity of people to idolize guides, and use a position for their own interests under the guise of spirituality. I find it very interesting to pay attention to this so as not to lose sight of the ultimate goal and humility of the Prophet, who ate what the poor ate and didn't dress to be distinguished from other believers.
It is unfortunate that Senegal is such a small country. If it had the size and political influence of Nigeria, Egypt, or Algeria - the recent history of Africa might be very different.
@@arifghaffar1164 why that question? Will you judge my answer based on that instead of actually considering what I said? I'm not a salafi, I'm just a normal Muslim and I know that this region is full of shirk because me myself I'm from west Africa.

Very interesting video Filip, as always. It is very common in the iconography about him and this image is often seen in many Senegalese homes.

Senegal embodies so perfectly the system of governance that we should've adopted in Tunisia post independence. Our president then Habib Bourguiba was so enamored with Ataturk that he ended up dissolving every Sufi order we had, reducing them to street performers and singers people listen to during Ramadan... Today they are confined to their Zawiya completely forgotten and shunned by many (due to Wahabism). Bourguiba went further then that and closed (temporarily) the oldest University in the word (Zitouna mosque) and Second oldest mosque in Africa after Kairaouen Mosque. Tunisians today are completely disillusioned with Islam as a viable political force especially after the monumental failure of Ennahdha Islamic party. Who knew that for all this time we were missing the point: Islam shouldn't be a political party, nor should it be a political front, what Islam should be is a structural component that permeates the society horizontally not vertically. Alas, no political analyst in Tunisia understood this because they all went to Sorbone and for them, French secularism (laicité) is a matter of faith not reason.. something akin to religious dogma.. how ironic.. Sulamyia, Tijanya, Kadirya and the more recent madanya are surviving... barely. I hope one day we'll look to Senegal and follow their example. Big respect to my Senegalese brothers and sisters ❤ and don't bring your lasers to Cote d'ivoire, no CAN for you next year😛
Is it possible to add French subtitles so it can be understood in Senegal. The video is well done and would be interesting for young people in the country. Merci

No wonder the present Turkish nd Bangladesh authorities are keeping the Mullahs and their syncophants away from political power or control to avoid economic and national bankruptcy similar to the fate of Pakistan where the same corrupt and depraved Mullahs supported by the Pakistani Army corrupted and ruled by CIA .
@@talibbeegun8731 who told you he was not confronting the colonizers? You clearly don't know his story. He was clearly fighting for islam during the colonization and that was the reason why he was their n1 public enemy, they even deported him to Gabon.
Just wanted to thank you for your continued work on producing videos on Islamic topics, you actually may not know this but your information has had a tremendous impact on many people especially none Muslims ,as I know of people who converted to Islam after watching your videos (I am not sure if this was intended by you).
I myself converted to Islam after meeting a friend from Nigeria while a student in University and who was heavily influenced by the teachings of Ahmadou Bamba .
Increasing religious knowledge is key to a better understanding of how human nature works and can lead to better relationships across cultures and consequently religions.
I leave you with the most noble of greetings ,the one used by all the prophets and that which was taught to human kind and Jinn...ASALAMUHALIKUM WAHRAMATULLAHIWAHBARAKATUHU !
Thanks you thanks you thanks you for this vidéo i am so proud for my communauty you do a good job for us cheikh Ahmadou bamba was and stay our reference and our leader
Wow, I am shocked that you know about this rather unknown Saint in Islamic history. Thank you for exploring!
@@LetsTalkReligion You wrote your masters thesis on it? Wow!
EDIT: Video was buffering. I see you've mentioned it.
You do great work. Your love of Sufism shines through and I applaud you for sharing its splendor with us. Thank you so much…
I personally read about this Issue 8 years ago on Washington post 1996 Chronicle, I am an Ethiopia knowns about this sect of Islam very well and fascinating by your depth intellect analysis . Its always amaz me the amount of material you analysis and presente in such extraordinary way.
I always pray to Allah not to make me a reason for the misguidance of others.
Thank you for creating such superb content. I really can't wait for the video to go live!
@we coming The Sufis say the same about you mate. Also, as a Christian I find your comment derogatory, nihilistic, and utterly racist.
I’ve been looking for a decent doc-type video on Bamba for years… Thanks for doing this, and for treating the subject with respect and for applying academic rigor to presentation of all relevant information and proper contextualization, etc etc
I think he deserves more attention!
Thank you so much for introducing me to this man. I had no idea he even existed. What a blessing. 🙏
I became Muslim in South Africa and went to magal ❤ 2007 I met sereing Sallou mbake ahmadu bamba grandson ❤ and became a murid of sereing sheik seyid jerejef sereing touba I was so lucky to meet sereing Sallou mbake he served me caffe touba I was chosen out of millions to be with him so my name is mukhtaar
A great introduction to Bamba’s work! Indeed, his contributions is a major silence in International and World History, thank you for sharing!
One of your best videos.
Your pronunciations are really nailed on, can’t lie I’m more than impressed as a West African.
جزاكم الله خيرا كثيرا
For this beautiful video. May Allah reward Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba and May Allah bless you for telling us his amazing story 🙏
I’m so glad u talk about my cheikh. Maashallah well done 🙏
What a fascinating and influential religious leader. Thank you for teaching me about him.
I am from algeria and I am impressed how accurate your info's are about North and West Africa kudos
♥️🙏
Thanks very much for this very informative and scholarly presentation!! May Allah (SWT) reward you endlessly by the baraka of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba.
Finally, i have been waiting for this. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
oh this is great, i am from senegal and it is a pleasure to see this kind of video…!
Al hamdulilah. This was great! But please, now we need one on Shaykh Ibrahim Niasse of Senegal and the Tijanniyah.
I follow Darma and Siva the Lord of the earth. But this is truly the best form of Islamism to be found. You have got some depth of knowledge to share for sure
It seems he was a great human. He surely had patience and fought a wise war. Senegal people, you were blessed with god.
Thank you for this lecture. Very informative.
I heard the name of the Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba for the first time in Youssou Ndour song.
Thank you again for this.
Thank you very much Allah bless you🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Thanks for calling attention to these topics. So many people are ignorant about other cultures and religions. You are doing the Lord's work. I may not be Muslim but it doesn't matter. Everyone should understand religions besides Christianity.
I'd LOVE to read your thesis! And to think I've never heard of this great man.
I'm from Senegal and I subscribe for this video
I really loved this video. I knew a little about Muslim non-violent resistance to colonialism in the context of India and Pakistan but I'd not heard Ahmadou Bamba's story before. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
Great video. Thank you so much for this video, in fact all your videos. They offer much insight in really difficult times where people missinterpret the meanings and importance of religious teachings. I am really glad I've watched this video and learnt about a fantastic man who accomplished so much in his community and had much broader impact. Thanks! 🙏
really interesting, excellent stuff, thanks Fillip. Never heard of Bamba before and became an instant fan.
May Serigne Touba pay you back a thousand fold!!!
Kazi Nazrul Islam a Bangladeshi Muslim poet also fought British colonialism through his writings and poems while being incarcerated.
I'm a Senegalese citizen and it's really good to watch this video, keep it up brother.
Greetings of Peace, I was definitely educated in this video about Cheikh Ahamadou Bamba ral.
I had the blessed experience of meeting his disciple, Shaikh Abdulaye Deiye ral, which was very healing and blissful even to this day. Thank you so much for sharing the Cheikh's life story.
traveling to Senegal next week, so this video was perfect to get a little bit of background info on the orders. Though, I'll still have to do a lot more reading! Thanks!
Hope you have a great trip!
i'd love to see a video about the Qadiriyya...i know you've been asked many time for this... but it will be really great abd al qadir al jilani is a great teacher and has been a great influence for many muslim around the world...
It's coming!
@@LetsTalkReligion Great !!!
@@LetsTalkReligion inshallah
As a Senegambian, I really enjoyed this. It'll be great if you do one on Ibrahim Nyass
Riktigt bra video skulle vilja höra om hans lärjunge Sheik Ibrahima Fall
THIS CHANNEL IS A BLESSING
MashaaALLAH! #profound I too am a Murid. Checking in from Chicago. Jerejef Shaykh Abdoulaye Bamba Mbaye, Jerejef Shaykh Ibrahima Fall, Jerejef Serigne Touba..

THANK YOU FOR THE POSITIVE ENLIGHTENMENT ON A AFRICAN HERO.
Thank you so much for your effort and work. God bless you and looking forward to more videos!
Been introduced to Ahmadu Bamba by gambian and senegalsese frinds of the Muridiya. Amazing people, and best muslims that I have met.
In my experience, Mourids tend to be really lovely people.
It is unfortunate that Senegal is such a small country. If it had the size and political influence of Nigeria, Egypt, or Algeria - the recent history of Africa might be very different.
Senegal is beautiful example of what Islam should look like
@@arifghaffar1164 I'm sorry, no it isn't. There is a lot of great things but the society is also full of shirk
@@hxyzazolchak are you of a Salafi mentality?
@@arifghaffar1164 why that question? Will you judge my answer based on that instead of actually considering what I said? I'm not a salafi, I'm just a normal Muslim and I know that this region is full of shirk because me myself I'm from west Africa.
I totally agree
I have been waiting for this video. So glad you made it! I'm myself mouride and belong to the family of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba. Thank you for such an informativ video, well done
oh man, i respect you even more now, i love you for the sake of Allah brother, im sure living amongst west African Sufi brotherhoods was a deeply spiritual and impacting experience.
Loved this episode. What a wise teacher! What a life! It was very interesting to learn about how the political system in Senegal works.
Everytime i look at his picture i get shivers!!! Everytime! I feel some type of calling
I envy your time with the West African Sufi! Great channel btw.
Very interesting video Filip, as always.
You didn't mention though, the famous episode of Sheik Bamba allegedly throwing his prayer rug on the see to perform his salat while the French were deporting him. It is very common in the iconography about him and this image is often seen in many Senegalese homes.
♥️🙏
think was one of the best videos you have made on this channel so far! definitely my favorite. very intriguing and so well made
Cheikh Bamba was an amazing man.
Filip, thank you for this wonderful, valuable channel and for educating us for free🙏🏼 ❤️ you are so amazing and so appreciated 💖 have a wonderful Christmas 🎄❤️
Your videos on Sufism are excellent. You are quickly becoming the best authority on Sufism on the Internet, if not in general.
Big respect to my Senegalese brothers and sisters ❤ and don't bring your lasers to Cote d'ivoire, no CAN for you next year😛
Thanks for the video
SubhnAllāh this was a gd one...
Got to know about sheikh amhedou Bamba through sheikh Abdul hakim murad, and now to see another video on him by you is a delightful surprise.
Thank you so much this is brilliant
Been waiting for this
Is it possible to add French subtitles so it can be understood in Senegal. The video is well done and would be interesting for young people in the country. Merci
UA-cam no longer allows people to make costum subs; but it does have an auto translate function it’s not good but is all we have
I'm more of a Daoist these days but I love hearing about religious leaders who promoted a form of non violent anarchy
Ahhh man, amazing channel!
Amazing Video✨👏🏾🙌🏾
Awesome video! Thank you for all these details. You are really appreciated.
Also love the way the idea of a master or saint becoming "more powerful than you could possibly imagine" is reflected in reality as well as fiction
This was interesting. I'd like to hear more about African spirituality more in general too!
